it's the National Football League on EA Sports where we'll see two of the NFL's oldest and most storied franchises it's the Los Angeles Rams and the Detroit Lions and it comes your way next on Madden [Applause] football from the automotive capital of the world we get a look at a venue that paysage to that industry welcome to Ford Field here in Detro Michigan joined bymer quarterback up in the booth Mr Brock hward I'm Kate Scott and Brock uh you can brag if you'd like to because I know you had quite the big arm in your days with the Huskies and the Seahawks in Seattle well we got a couple of quarterbacks here who also know how to push that football down the field yeah you got a couple QBs are going to keep these defenses honest today because the moment they get greedy and coverage or get too aggressive in the pocket either of these quarterbacks can drop a dime drop a deep door right over him for big yardage maybe six points to through the warm-ups both teams are ready and we're off and running from Fort field this one's fielded at the 40 yd line and a decent return ends as they bring him down inside the 30 so the Rams offense getting out there for their opening drive of the game and they brought out by the 16-year pro rebounded from an injury last season Matthew Stafford Stafford just continues to fight off injuries and he continues to battle father time and it is remarkable there's a lot of quarterbacks as we see him age we see the arm fall apart we see the wear in the tear and the velocity disappear just not seeing that with Stafford you can question how long the journey may continue but you cannot question how productive he is when he's on that field and this one gets to the 33 yd line before it stops solid four yd gain there and now they've got second and Six coming up that is just a good solid run right there I know it's pretty basic commentary but sometimes football can be basic it keeps you on schedule that kind of yards per carry and you move the sticks second and Six coming up here another run for Williams Jukes at a one stop and he's going to get this up close to the 40 before going out it's a gain of five and he's just short that's third less than a yard this is a guy who man when he is in a group when he is feeling it you're just not going to bring him down with an armed tackle you better buckle up you need a textbook tackle on this guy W grab some clop and drive him to the ground with all you got and he's tackled with the first down yardage you love a huddle K you really do you love a huddle full of guys like this who just know how to keep the drive moving forward there's some trust there he's going to get the job done and he's going to get another shot I would guess down the line new set of downs for him from the 46 changing things up they're going to throw now it's taken in by Williams well there was never a play in any Playbook I ever saw designed for a lost yardage play when you throw the ball but if there's any Solace at least it was first down couple more chances to make up for it here's second and 14 throw complete to Williams and he'll get it up to the 44 as an offense you don't call a screen Kate expecting to gain just a few yards call it expecting to break off something big and substantial but it's up to that defense to stay ahead of it to keep it contained to something much smaller case and point right there this drive in some serious trouble it's third and 12 throwing now Stafford oh he's got a man Wide Open complete and they bring him down at the 18 yd line they get 38 out of the play and the Rams are going to have a first down and now right there that's what you want to see on your opening drive boom connect on a big shot and instantly you set a tone that you're not going to be afraid to be aggressive in this game today boy do I love that thinking touchdown here after that big play we've got first and 10 from the Red Zone working inside the Red Zone the throw is caught and he's going to be taken down near the 8 yd line it's a double digit gain 10 yds and now they've got first and goal I love throwing on first down and when you see a first down pass just like that it's taking advantage of a matchup you plan for and you go out and execute and he'll go down shy the end zone They Mark him at the four you know okay these are some of the little hidden plays in the game right doesn't look like a whole lot on the stat sheet but a it gets a good yardage B it sets up your play action and C most importantly keeps that defense guessing he's got it on the bootleg flushed out of the pocket Blitz is there and he goes goes down and the pressure drives them backwards b even good defenses great defenses in this league Kate they're going to bend at times but you never want to break and when you get a sack in the red zone that goes a long ways to help in your efforts buckle up it's third and goal that's a throw here Stafford the shot to the end zone is incomplete that throw came pretty clean out of his hand just looked like it didn't get through the defense clean enough somebody tips it away and saves a potential comple and it is good no problems there on the shorter attempt and the opening drive the game ends in three points I never saw a play script that ended with a field goal it was always a touchdown that you wanted but that's three points and it's enough to give him the lead Rams kicking team is ready and they're going to send this one away and he opts not to bring this one out so they're going to enjoy some good starting field position from the 30 so the Lions take the field for their first first drive and leading them out of his ninth NFL season experienced a real Resurgence last year it's Jared G the questions about Jer Go's future as an NFL starter whether there's a longterm answer in Detroit those are long gone this off season signing a lucrative lucrative deal including over 170 million guaranteed dollars what I love about what he's done in the Motor City is he's created a sense of belief a confidence that they have been waiting for clamoring for when he steps on the field and into that huddle he elevates everybody around him he's made Believers in Detroit quite a Redemption story ping let's see how they attack this first down Brock from the 43 off the gut they go with Gibbs oh he gets clobbered behind the line the stop made that time by the rookie from Florida State a his goal's pretty clear okay crash forward and then crash inside set that edge but if you could come inside and bury that Runner before it gets started all the better offense to the line for second down looking to throw gone F his man all route complete and they push this down to the opposing 47 yd Lo yeah these in Cuts maybe aren't the hardest throws from a degree of difficulty Kate but it does take some courage as a quarterback to throw into congested spaces but it can pay big dividends battle coming up on Third and inches give up the gut to Montgomery and he has it to the 42 before they make the stop they'll say he got five there but brocka all they care about is the first down that comes with it I don't know what it is K but I love third down runs I really do I know the receivers don't always like it cut money down they want the ball but a third down run for a first down could be so demoralizing to that defense play action on first down got a man coverage lost him complete and they will score touchdown Detroit the Lions finish up their opening drive Amer off St Brown the touchdown that is a touchdown to one of their Prime receiving Targets this is really what you pay your skill guys for you know I had an old coordinator say it's my job to get you a one-onone it's your job to go out and win it and win it with a touchdown setting up to try the point [Applause] after and the kick is good [Applause] the lions s it all sets as they send this one downfield that's going to be taken in at the eight and a decent return ends as they bring him down inside the 30 the Rams headed back after their second drive now and the last Drive did end in points not as many as they wanted though they had to settle for that field goal despite advancing the football ball pretty well they're out in set first and 10 up the gut they go with Williams Jukes one Defender and he'll get it up to the 44 it's a great pick up 16 yards and now they've got first down you know K if you notice those guys that that love to feed themselves on the field they love to just get more and more they're hungry for even more I'll tell you what that t it prevented something that's going to be a lot bigger but that back remains hungry it'll be a quality gain on the run and that also brings us to the end of this quarter and they can go ahead and stay in that huddle we're at the end of the first quarter neither side separating much so far we're back to Ford Field right after this [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] time for the second quarter of Play It's Rams football they have second down and five to throw Safford dumps it off to his running back and he'll pick up enough to move the chains at that down in distance this group was pretty confident the screen would get him enough yards for the first who did so long as it keeps working like that I bet you it'll be a go-to play for them when they need it the next time on first down they'll run and the defense gets there to force a small loss this is one of those situations Kate where I watch the body language of the running back because it'd be very easy for him to raise his hands up look to the sideline and his old line and go what am I supposed to do there there was nothing no time at all to try and escape and react instead it goes backwards they stay on the ground with Williams and they get him right at the line of scrimmage he didn't get anything on that run so struggles on the ground leaving them with third long I know these DNS love to get to the quarterback I know that sacks many times equals a bigger payday but doing the Dirty Work playing the Run well that's what the best of the ends do in this lead he won't get it there Defender finds a throw and breaks it up so often we talk about speed offensively right we love receivers that can run that was a perfect example of how speed kills you defensiv a hurry throw almost end an interception and that wasn't until after they almost brought him down behind the line for a sack speeds the difference fourth down and on comes the punt team and the kicks away the Lions and wide receiver almond ra St Brown getting set for their next drive and that last Drive no answer for what they were doing through the air so expect some Tiner coverage this time around they'll get this drive started first and 10 this is Montgomery running right and the plunge up the gut yields nothing there no progress on first down and that'll bring up second and 10 stopped right at the line but might as well have been a loss of yards as far as the offense is concerned it's always humbling when you try Force versus force and the defense wins out they'll send their tight end right second and 10 now open receiver caught and he flips the field for them before being taken down man I love that effort adding as much as possible to that catch while earning the first down that's called yards after catch and it's what coaches want for all their pass catchers on the [Music] roster so what began at Throne 20 Brock all of a sudden is inside the other 20 it's first and 10 off the play fake he's going to throw portter with the grab and that tackle stops him after a solid game he's just one of those guys Kate even when he's not open he's still a Target thanks to that physicality his ability to just play bowly ball they don't like forcing into the coverage but sometimes when you got a bully like him that could create space just find a way to get him the ball got to the air now this one's CAU and he'll get this inside the 10 to the [Applause] nine all plays on the table here for third and three [Applause] G Rams get to him and he's dropped and the defense comes through to back him up ahead of fourth down a big L yeah that's what I call an absolute no no I mean that that just can't happen down here in the Red Zone you've got to find a way to get rid of the football because now well now you're not only outside the Red Zone and you put some points that you thought were a guarantee with either a touchdown or field goal now a little bit in limbo Lions making the call for their field goal unit this one from an even 40 yds out and that one is good a little longer but no problem at all and add three to their lead as it extends to seven it depends up the kicker man that is a coach's best friend saves him so much stress to have a guy he can really trust to go out and get it from that distance consistently cuz from that far out no kick is a guarantee his return stuck to the five and this drive will start inside the 25 the Rams back at on offense as we see tyy Williams again and they take over down 103 following that score and the drive will start out with a first and 10 straight ahead with Williams and he'll get it out to the 34 before he's Tracked Down and that one goes for a gain of 11 and it brings up an LA first down you call that first down running play you don't always expect to get those kind of yards they'll take that every single time another carry for him and he'll come up with a gain of three on the run off the middle he not a bad play by any means there's room for more and they know this second down now seven go from the 36 dump off complete to his running back and he's short of the first after a mild game well this the type of game we've come to expect from him as a runner toen the ball but he's just as adep turning the screen into the same kind of yardage too that brings us to the two-minute warning in the Motor City it's the Rams with only a yard to go here on third down they try and pick this up on the ground and he'll get it up to the 44 just a single yard but that's going to be enough to move the chains I don't know K I didn't think he had it that pack did he knew exactly where he had to get for the first down pops up right away and signals first down he's got it room to run and he's got a decent gain before being brought down that's a pretty similar result to a first down Run play moves It Forward keeps he on schedule makes second and third down a whole lot easier to manage from the 48 that one complete to higgy and they get this down roughly to the 34 yd line that'll go for an 18yd gain and the Rams are going to have a first down you know Kate you'll find teams go to this Crossing route concept sometimes a dozen times a game a lot of times it's for shorter yardage but sometimes thingss breaking the right coverage for a much bigger impact Play Just Like That here's first and 10 from the 34 Stafford back to throw an alert play defensively there got a hand on it to tip it away that makes it second down I think it's fair to say behind the sky to line without that ball a tip we were looking at the big game they missed opportunity to push their offense in a great play on the other side to deny the throw now Stafford to throw he just got it away before the hit but the pass winds up incomplete it's going to be third down know this big guys the top can't get to the quarterback the next best thing is to get you the CLA in the air and knock that ball away here he is on Third and long C Williams and it's complete and he's tackled after gaining a handful now the Lions calling a timeout they're first they'll have two left to work with before halftime on comes Joshua cardi in the Rams field goal unit to try it on fourth down was good on his first attempt and his second from a little over 45 here and that one is good a little longer but no problem at all and it's dropped back down now to a four-point game okay one of the areas of kickers quarterbacks are similar they want to get into Rhythm and no better way to feel good get into that Rhythm and start a game two for two as a kicker we've got a good one here they've cut the lead to four as they send it away return coming from the six and he's brought down the offense will come onto the field the Lions going to go on offense here late in the half and they'll have't even 40 seconds available to them so expect to see at least a few plays here here drive starts out with a first and 10 go back to throw he's just going to get rid of this one smart move there when you saw the field it's going to be second down [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] here's G to the right side complete big game here he's officially in enemy territory now they're going to give him the opposing 49 first and 10 from a yard shy of [Applause] Midfield throwing is gone he finds the Florida and they get there to take him down right around the 41 a timeout taken here by the Lions that's their third and that's all they've got for What Little remains in this half after a good pickup they're set up with second and short from the 41 and the cover just too good there didn't find the throw that he was confident in so just throws it away third down coming off you know in the NFL offensive minded teams will call it a perfect Friday they don't want the ball to hit the ground once and especially on these short to intermediate throws you got to count on those being efficient and effective throwing now third and two that's caught for the first and they get this down to the 28 we've arrived in half time here in Detroit the Lions defending their building they've got the lead at the break now we'll get you down to our Orlando studios for the EA Sports half time Report with Jonathan kig all right Kate sit tight we get back to you in Brock in just a moment but for now this is our halftime report in the first half it was the veteran quarterback Jared gof who had command of the offense he has a touchdown pass and that amounted to the only touchdown of the game for either team thus far both these teams making their way out of the tunnel and we're ready for the second half and for the call we send it back to Kate Scott and the other blond bomber rocker as always a half tip to coach for his hard work during the break KS we're happy to welcome yall back to the start of our third quarter and he opts not to bring this one out so they're going to enjoy some good starting field position from the 30 here comes the offense for Detroit to begin the second half and they really lean on that passing game in the first half Brock let's see if that emphasis continues to start the third first and 10 now from the 30 now he'll throw off the play fake he fires one deep down the middle an alert play defensively there and got a hand on it to tip it away that makes it second down I think it's safe to say that without that ball being tipped we are looking at a big game it's a missed opportunity to push that offense but an even better play defensively to deny the throw [Applause] looking to throw again on second down and he doesn't see a window he likes so he just got rid of that one and then brings up third down this is why we hear about closing speed so often when you evaluate players you know once he senses the pressure he's getting rid of that ball it takes a player who can close quickly to get to him before it's released and alter that throw to the air third and long complete beyond the marker they'll get him down after he gets into the 48 it's a gain of 22 and that gives the Lions the first that's what we call situational football you spend all week working on your nickel passing game package to take advantage of third Downs just like that first and 10 and ball set up at the [Applause] 48 the tight end going in motion right they are throwing it again short pass caught by his tight end and he's across Midfield in Rams territory now hang on looks like somebody came out after that play a little shaken up not sure we saw exactly what happened but he'll get some assistance now [Applause] second and Six coming up here Montgomery now up the middle and this one does not go far they pick up one on the Run need more though that takes him to Third and five BR up third and off the play fake he's going to throw into a crow and intercepted Darius Williams with the int and the Rams will take the interception back across Midfield before they finally track him down oh coaches just love that effort right there instantly as he made the pick every body was looking for a block and doing their part to set up the return and I know it pales in comparison to giving up the turnover but how about the effort on the other side to track him down and stop the potential pick six I think everybody deserves a little credit on the field for that effort out come the Rams on offense they're going to start just inside of enemy territory following that pick [Applause] first and 10 from a yard shy of Midfield Williams on the carry and he's stopped after getting this down to about the 44 first down play Nets him five it's going to be second and five that Run's not going to turn many heads but at the end of the year I promise you you average over 5 yds a run you going to be a pro Bower back to the well again and he's going to be brought down out at the 35 yd line give him nine on that play and it's up for the first well this certainly has been a memorable contest for him his coaches man they're going to take this kind of output every single game this goes a little beyond the expectations they have for maybe even for himself what impresses me so much Kate the guy just doesn't Tire getting stronger literally as this game's going on and the middle holds they don't get anything on the Run no gain there that time and it's second and 10 these Big D tackles in this league they love weaponizing their size right in the middle of the field it is so hard to clear a lane against him and once he got his paw on him it was dead onal it's taken in by Williams and that tackle stops him after a solid game Rhythm you hear me talk about Rhythm a lot whether it's a golf swing a baseball swing heck even a bowler gets himself into rhythm and I'm just telling you K from experience these little throws to running backs it's one of the best things to get your offense into Rhythm and a nice little gain on top of it here's Stafford it's t away he's going hit the ground Defender winning that round that brings up fourth down with the pressure before that sped that whole play up and opened up a wide range of outcomes a hurry throw almost picked up an interception that wasn't until after they almost brought him down behind the line for a sack like the best kickers in this league he's just keeping on keeping on with his job that's a third now he's knocked through the uprights threea times not going to get it done in this game though eventually they got to start running them out for some [Applause] Pats things trim back down to a single point brck as they send this off it away this one's fielded at the four ydd line and that's where they'll begin the drive following the return the offense returning to the field now as we get a look at their wide outs they're coming off their first interception of the game this drive now a chance to rebuild some confidence offense ready to begin this drive first and 10 they send the tight end in motion looking a throw here and shake off that previous int leor with the grab and he reaches the 35 before going out I know I could sound like a broken record when I talk about timing and getting the ball out on time and on Rhythm but these out cuts it is so imperative when the best of them make it look oh so easy rifles it and it's caught and they make take a stop with at the 46 yd line that's an 11 yd pickup and it gives them the first down I'm sure coach play caller doesn't mind making the job a little bit easier you know play Callin a lot simpler and easier when you count on the offense to move the chains on those early [Applause] Downs now gone this is complete to Gibbs and this one doesn't go far just get this guy touches I don't care how I don't care when just find unique ways to get this running back the ball and over time he's going to make you pay tight end motioning right from just shot of Midfield on second down he finds the open man there complete and he breaks into enemy territory before being stopped on a huge game he just made difficult throw to the outside look Elementary K that's not easy the placement excellent headset is Target up more yards on that stat four downs now to get in here's first and goal working inside the red zone splits a couple of Defenders and completes it and he's brought down real close to that goal line at the one I'll tell you this you don't want to make a Liv throwing it double coverage but double coverage and still finding a way to beat the defense and haul it in that's not a situation many players win and there aren't a lot of quarterbacks willing to make that throw and trust their receiver to get it done and he maybe got back to the line there but no further just not quite enough to break the playing and now it's third and goal at the one so often we talk about the individual having to move on to the next play well that was a perfect picture of the collective that defense staring down second and one rose to the and he will get this to the end zone for de a touchdown the Lions corow the lead to seven David Montgomery with a touchdown lot of pressure on him in that moment Brock find a way to score don't let it go to Fourth and goal and he finds a way to come through and gets in the end zone for six how about the other side beating a defense right there as well that group who was so close to pulling off the goal line stand yet all that motivation wasn't enough to stop him on Third and goal that one splits the uprights and they'll continue adding to their [Applause] lead Lions have it all set as they send this one downfield this Run's fielded at the four yd line and in the end he's able to get it to what used to be a Touchback it's at the 25 after the return the Rams headed out to the field now and they settled for a field goal on their last series so points are positive but they'll look to upgrade to a touchdown here they're out and set first and 10 now it's Williams and he found some Running Room for a nice gate good rip on first down that brings up second and two so much to like about that R particularly what he was able to get out of it the defense I think feels a little fortunate they were able to track him down before an even bigger run than Crossing that first down marker and he's brought down for a loss it's amazing how fast these guys are on the field and how fast your fortunes can turn second and short run you're feeling good about yourself with a negative play well now comes a critical third down third and four coming up now Stafford and there's a man there it's intercepted Brian branch has it and he makes theb that's a touchdown on the pick six well we all know getting the interception is the important thing Brock but how about this guy having the wherewithal to transition into a really nice return to then get the touchdown out of it to yeah that's a great point we talked about it with the receivers right getting vertical right away after making a catch same thing for these Defenders when they make a pick they secure the football sure but instantly they go back to their offens of days they want that touchdown and they want a moment they won't forget lining up now to try the extra points and the extra point is up and it is good well Brock hopefully some short memories on offense as they get it right back here on the kickoff after that pick six return coming from the six and he's brought down the offense will come onto the field another Drive coming up for this offense and they didn't have much time to recover from that pick six need short memories here as they head back out they'll get this drive started first and 10 getting right back to it after that interception he fires one deep down the left sideline that's a nice job by the defense K actually used the 12 Defender and that is careful consideration and Shawn McVey will indeed challenge the call previous play is under review we're all watching that sideline here seeing where those feet came down and no matter what they rule here Kate that was an outstanding effort just to make the catch now we got to look and see did he get both feet in with [Applause] possession after review of the playing on the field so he did find a way to get both feet down great body control on his part and that challenge is successful first down now ball at the 39 yd line takes the hand off now to throw he's trying another one deep he's got it inside the 10 they rip off a big Chuck of field and it sets him up with first and goal first 10 goal at the seven yd line the analytics are pretty clear it's hard to move the ball in this league with short little dinks and dunks you've got to get the explosive chunk you got to get the big play and that throw to the outside that gets the job done this offense in position now it's first and goal from the red zone now catch made and he will score touchdown Los Angeles the Rams shave some off the deficit late in the quarter it's a pukaa touchdown we've seen him do a lot more to reach the End Zone on a catch Brock that one that one was kind of fed right to him yeah they say the running backs have a nose for the End Zone you know who else does every skilled guy out there because they want to put a touchdown on the board kicking team on to try the Pat and he sends the point after right through the upright a very active quarter for us plenty of points in that frame as we reach the end of three and after that last second score in the third we'll resume play with a kickoff [Music] [Applause] all right that lead cut down to eight after that score and the kick is away and he opts not to bring this one out so they're going to enjoy some good starting field position from the 30 Lions getting ready to return to the field they really have the passing game clicking on that last touchdown Drive partner we'll see if they stick with that or if they mix things up a bit on this series first and 10 now from the 30 G to the air now tight end reels in the shallow throw and he'll get it up to the 44 they'll get 14 yds and a new set of downs good offenses okay good play callers know how to utilize their personnel they know where they wanted him they wanted them on a route in space where he could make that initial play comfortably but then go to work after they'll run here on first down and he's only able to power this forward for about three yards that's the kind of Run play that feels like tug of war at field day and you're just not moving the other side just a short run neither side feels particularly good about it and we'll move to the next throwing off the play fake here pressure coming and they take him down and that pushes him back third down coming up we get so stuck Kate on decision making being the ball in the hands and where's he throwing it the ball in the hands in the passing game and what kind of decision is he going to make when in reality in this game in the fourth quarter decision- makings also knowing when to salvage a play Salvage that real estate that's so important to try to play a little add-on and make this a two-score game that sack that's not going to help in that decision at all got to figure out this third down here now they'll throw out of the gun and even on third down he sees no choice other than to get rid of it not the play they wanted it's going to be fourth down you know it's a point of emphasis and practice each and every week no matter where we go how are we going to attack the coverage on third down but ches the wrong play off that call sheet that time punt team on and they'll send this one away and they bring him down to put a stop to that return so a change of possession here on the pun back out runs their offense they all try to emphasize what worked on their the last Drive which ended Brock in a touchdown and the drive will start out with a first and 10 now Stafford to throw got a man coverage lost him complete and he got this close to Midfield before going out3 a pick up there of 33 yds and it brings up an LA first down one thing we don't have in football is we don't have that radar gun but if we did Kate this is the kind to throw when you throw it that deep outside the numbers that requires a serious fast ball serious arm strength and he just showed it off on the handoff this is Williams and into a sea of bodies he goes looks like they'll get about three out of it you know not a ton of yards but still showing that commitment to the ground game a type of run that keeps a defense from loading up in coverage and focusing entirely on that passing game second down now seven to go from the 48 open receiver CAU a 19 yd pickup and that's going to move the chains when you watch the combine you'll watch guys try to make this throw and without chemistry it's so hard to execute that was picture perfect that's a QB and receiver on the same page because that rout that deep out to the field that takes just a different level of connectedness out of the shotgun they'll give it to him inside and he's short of the first after a mild gain give him five on that carry bring it up second and five you gain that kind of yardage in the Run game and you're going to gain the trust of your offensive coordinator plays like that runs like that set the table for everything else in the Playbook here's second and five that's taken in by C and he's tackled with a first down yardage good luck defending that short yardage slam just not going to happen there's a reason this is a go-to play for just about any quarterback in every situation now run this is Williams and he's stopped down at the 16 after a small game manages just a yard on first down now it's going to maybe second and N they got some positive yards that's a good bet but too many plays like that it just is too hard to pile together get first downs it gets the better defenses in this lead stappord back to throw and he will score touchdown Los Angeles the Rams slice the lead down to a couple it's a pukaa touchdown his second scoring catch of the game a second touchdown through the air for Brock an independent of the game situation we both know he's going to be happy to leave the field with two of them in one game one touchdown you just might be right time right place but two touchdowns in a game is always about the preparation the separations of the preparation it's doing that work on the practice field and knowing before the game that when my number's called I'm going to be there to deliver all right here we go huge play for the Rams going for two now the Rams will use the first of their timeouts they still have two to work with in this final [Applause] [Music] [Applause] quarter so after thinking it over they're lining up for for two he's throwing for it and he can't connect with his man so they tried for two but it doesn't work out well they took their shot at the tie but they'll need to manufacture another score in the time remaining now as that two-point try is unsuccessful becomes a little bit tougher to punch it in for two when that defense knows what's on the line too that's a spot with their hand was forced after the touchdown they do their best to surprise them with the call easier said Kate than done kickoff taken at the three and in the end he's able to get it to what used to be a Touchback it's at the 25 after the return the Lions offense returning to the fields their lead cut down inside a field goal so points imperative here to get some breathing room [Applause] hand off running right Montgomery and he won't Salvage that it's a loss on the play I talked to a bunch of different GMS Kate especially around draft time and they all say the same thing linebackers are so hard to find it's hard to transition from the college game that's in so much space to this game where you've got to play in a phone booth yet have that explosiveness to chase a play on the outside down like that linebacker just did they're going play action to the ground it goes that's incomplete no luck finding his receiver that time so they're left facing third and long there's the importance of staying in Phase as a Defender he was all over him in coverage and that really did help Force the [Applause] incompletion looking to throw he's going to push one deep down the right the flags down as he stop looks like this one's on the offense holding [Applause] offense well no surprises here they decline the holding call and hang on to the interception from the 44 yd line now first and 10 Stafford now this could decide things it's intercepted that's Carl to Davis and he takes this one back with a pick six that play Brock that play was beautiful not just making the interception but then seeing the return slowly come together in front of him as he took it all the way to the house yeah I think even for us up here in the booth it looked like a scene out of of a movie didn't it starts running it back scans the field for a lane then the blocks come just in the nick of time to wipe out the wouldbe tacklers and he's got open space and nothing but the end zone in front of him and the kick is good and we're going to have some extra yardage added to the kickoff on the roughing call kick thought he had a chance to block it but he ends up wiping out the kicker instead and that's going to award their offense a first down a quick chance at Redemption after that pick six as it's sent away and he got all of that one that's for sure but with our new kickoff rules in play this year that means the football is going to be spotted at the 30 the Rams and Matthew Stafford set to go back on offense and this is some quality film review right here look at this couple of touchdowns good amount of yards too he's been moving him down the field like only he can putting together quite the game for himself in the process first and 10 now from the 30 back to the air following the pick six gets everything he has under this throw he's got his man complete and he does quite a bit of damage before they finally take him down [Applause] [Applause] they'll break the Huddle and come up on first and goal here he is to throw and he will score touchdown Los Angeles the Rams parlay the interception into points there sure was a lot of trust on that play Brock and he proved worthy of it with that end result yeah good old receiver someone who just knows how to get it into the end zone is worth his weight in gold to a QB and on that throw there was trust there that he had a shot to find [Applause] that one right down the middle and they're a point closer now on the scoreboard [Applause] 29a we're down to a two-point difference as they send the kick away here's a return from the seven field fliping return as he brought it down on the opposite side of the 50 the offense headed out now for Detroit and they still have work to do a couple kesky timeouts remaining on the opposite sideline so a chance that the ball could still go back over football on that 47 yd line first down running this with Montgomery and he'll get this down to the 33 Y Line big game 14 on the play and that'll be first down Detroit Lions first down first and 10 at the 33 yd line they'll run again with Montgomery and he pushed deep in enemy territory with that down inside the 25 call it nine yds looked like a first for a moment it's second and one up second and at the 24 yd [Applause] line staying on the ground with Montgomery and he's brought down after a tremendous effort just to get a couple yard it's a weager twoy gain but that's enough to award them the first down first down first 10 at the 22 yd line so in Motor City it's a home win for the Lions and it was a game for fans of high-scoring football wasn't it I know Brock was enjoying seeing both of these offenses work and really not a lot to dislike from either group just one side looking at a slightly better clip than the other that was the difference in the win so for my partner Brock hward and our entire crew I'm Kate Scott saying this has been the NFL on EA Sports so long everybody oh [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music]
