REPORTER LEO STALLWORTH. >> HE'S LIVE IN THE COMMUNITY OF PINON HILLS. THAT'S NOW BEING THREATENED BY THOSE FAST GROWING FLAMES. LEO >> ABSOLUTELY BEING THREATENED RIGHT NOW. YOU SEE THE FIRE BURNING JUST ATOP THAT RIDGE AND OBVIOUSLY BELOW THAT RIDGE IS THE PINON HILLS COMMUNITY. NOW, SOME RESIDENTS HAVE EVACUATED, OTHERS ARE STAYING PUT FOR NOW, KEEPING A CLOSE EYE ON THE FIRE BURNING RIGHT THERE. RESIDENTS HOPING THE FIRE DOES NOT COME DOWN THE HILL, RACING INTO THEIR COMMUNITY LIKE IT DID LAST NIGHT, THREATENING THEIR HOMES. THE BRIDGE FIRE IS THREATENING THE COMMUNITY OF PINION HILLS, A MERE SIX MILES FROM WRIGHTWOOD. THE DESTRUCTIVE FIRE RIPPING THROUGH NEARLY 50,000 ACRES AND DESTROYING 20 HOMES IN MOUNT BALDY AND 13 HOMES IN WRIGHTWOOD. SOME PINON HILLS RESIDENTS TERRIFIED IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE FIRE TURNS. MANY OF THEIR HOMES TO ASHES. >> I HAVE A SHOP THAT I'M STAYING IN WITH MY MOTOR HOME. YEAH, WITH MY ANIMALS READY TO GO. I KNOW IT'S JUST IT'S. I'M SO SORRY. SHE'S GONE THROUGH SO MUCH WITH HER BRAIN SURGERY AND STUFF. THIS IS JUST NOTHING. YEAH, IT'S SO KUDOS TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, AND I PRAY EVERYBODY'S GOING TO BE SAFE. >> FLAMES. AND THE ASH WAS FALLING. AND IT WAS JUST HARD TO BREATHE. >> HEIDI SAYS FLAMES CAME INTO THE PINYON HILLS COMMUNITY LAST NIGHT, GETTING DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO HER HOME AND OTHERS. IT WAS A NIGHTMARE FOR HEIDI AND OTHER RESIDENTS. >> I JUST WANTED TO GET OUT OF HERE. SO WE JUST TOOK THE TOY HAULER AND WE WENT DOWN TO THE FIRE STATION DOWN THE STREET AND CAMPED OUT THERE FOR THE NIGHT. >> AS FOLKS SCRAMBLED IN PINON HILLS TO EVACUATE. SADLY, ONE RESIDENT COULD NOT GET HIS HORSE OUT IN TIME. HE SAYS THE ANIMAL DIED AFTER BEING OVERCOME BY HEAVY SMOKE AND ASH. VICKI'S PET SERVICES VOLUNTEERING TO REMOVE THE CARCASS. VICKI, YOU'RE HERE TO REMOVE THAT HORSE THAT PASSED AWAY THAT THAT THAT HAS TO BE A TOUGH JOB. >> IT IS. IT IS. BUT I'M GLAD I DO IT BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE I HELP THEM. YEAH IT'S VERY HEARTFELT. >> SOME RESIDENTS PANICKING AS THEY SCRAMBLE TO EVACUATE THEIR HORSES AND OTHER ANIMALS. THEY WERE GRATEFUL PEOPLE AND ORGANIZATIONS CAME IN TO HELP THEM GET THEIR ANIMALS OUT. YOU FOLKS HAVE ALREADY COME INTO COMMUNITIES LIKE THIS ONE, AND YOU'VE RESCUED MORE THAN 60 HORSES. >> ABSOLUTELY. A LOT OF THE TIMES WITH THIS COMMUNITY, MANY PEOPLE DON'T HAVE THE TRANSPORTATION FOR THEIR HORSES OR ANY LIVESTOCK AT THAT POINT AND DO NEED OUR HELP. >> AND AGAIN, FIREFIGHTERS BEATING AWAY AT WHAT YOU SEE RIGHT THERE ATOP THAT RIDGE, BEATING AWAY AT THOSE FLAMES FROM THE AIR AND FROM THE GROUND AND THEY'RE DOING ONE HECK OF A JOB. AND THE RESIDENTS IN THIS COMMUNITY ARE SO GRATEFUL TO THE FIREFIGHTERS. YOU KNOW, YEARS AGO, I WAS COVERING THE FIRE, AND I HEARD A WOMAN WHERE A WOMAN WALKED UP TO ME AND SHE SAID, LEO, THE FIREFIGHTERS JUST SAVED MY HOME. AND SHE WAS
