Welcome to the news at noon. I am Justin Core. We begin with developing sports news after Boise State announced just hours ago that they are in fact joining the PAC 12 athletic conference. Jay Tusk reported this overnight. Now, if you don't know, an athletic conference is a group of universities that join forces for bargaining power on TV, contracts, bowl placement, et cetera. PAC 12 used to be one of the top five conferences in the nation. Things have changed regardless. This has been a dream for Bronco fans for decades and now it is happening. Sports reporter Brady Frederick has more. Brady, what's going on? How did this happen? Well, you know, just in at long last Boise State, joining the conference of champions, people have looked forward to it for years, but of course, the PAC 12 looks much different than it did years ago. I do think this is a, an upgrade for Boise State. Now, BS U athletic director Jeremiah Dickey made the official announcement early this morning saying it's a good day to be a Bronco. The two team conference made up of Washington State and Oregon State will I'll be joined by a select four members of the Mound West. That's Fresno State, San Diego State, Colorado State and of course, BS U. So here's the catch, you need eight total teams in a conference to be recognized by the NCAA. There is a two year grace period that they will allow a team, a conference to operate without that number. So they're gonna need two more teams by 2026. Uh We'll, we'll see where they continue to add those teams and we're gonna expect it very soon though. For now, Dicky gave us an update about how all of this played out. Yeah, yesterday was a big day and there was a, a lot of work being done behind the scenes. A lot of my teammates, you know, I can't say enough about Matt Wild and, and our office of General Counsel and um i it's, it's been AAA stressful week to a certain extent, but an exciting week, um these conversations, you know, we always knew that this was a potential opportunity. It obviously started escalating, you know, over the last few weeks and the way these, you know, uh these moves come to fruition, you know, it sometimes happens uh extremely quickly. I'm not sure I believed it would happen on Monday this fast. Um But it did and, you know, and I'm grateful for it so as we can read right down there, two more teams needed for Boise State's new conference, the PAC 12 who might be joining now. Well, you know, obvious choices could have been other teams in the mountain west but the fact that they only took four when they needed six, I think is very telling, I'd expect them to go east coast. The name of the game for conference realignment has been getting more time zones. So you can have a bigger picture, uh, of your, your media demographics. Uh, so I'd expect that down the line. Teams like Southern Florida, Memphis Tulane, maybe they become the newest acquisitions to the PAC 12. Ok. Interesting.
