Playing off for 5th and 6th place in Wheelchair
Basketball on Day 10 of the Men's competition were London 2012 silver medal Australia and
host nation Brazil. MATCH COMMENTARY
Australia with the slight advantage at half time, but it was very tight. And it stayed that way. Both sides tried everything they could to
pull away but matched each other basket for basket and point for
point. MATCH COMMENTARY
Then in the final few seconds Australia had one shot to win the match.... MATCH COMMENTARY
A sensational performance from Brazil and they crowned a great tournament with a 5th
place finish. The 73rd and final Wheelchair Basketball match
of the Paralympic Games saw Spain and London 2012 bronze medallists the
United States of America go for gold. The USA were huge favourites and after a tight
opening began to build a lead. MATCH COMMENTARY
But Spain, with just one defeat in the tournament so far, came back at them. MATCH COMMENTARY
But the final minute of the first half was a profitable
one for the USA. MATCH COMMENTARY
So a 6 point lead for the United States at half time but their opponents were fighting
hard. And the Spanish dug deep in the third quarter
and reduced the deficit. MATCH COMMENTARY
But once again, at the end of the 10 minutes the 7 time champions found something special
when they needed it. MATCH COMMENTARY
That basket hurt Spain and in the fourth and final quarter their opponents moved up
a gear. MATCH COMMENTARY
So the USA claimed gold and their 8th title but a terrific effort by Spain in their first
Paralympic final.
