as a leader on this team kind of what was the your approach for the by we obviously you came after a really emotional game last time you guys were out there kind of what was your experience like during this off week I would just say trying to stay positive and um you know just trying to trying to get better each and every day um and just kind of trying to bring life into other people and really just kind of encourage these young guys to to improve and get better this week how do you feel about the timing of the you know late in the season then following a rivalry game kind of how do you feel about how beneficial the timing of The Bu request for you guys I would have rather had a game especially after the outcome of the South Dakota State game I think it would have helped us more to kind of you know wipe that one underneath the rug and kind of respond um I don't think it really matters what week we have our buy but I think the guys are kind of refreshed from that buy I know with the loss you didn't really want to talk about your performance too much but the start of that game last time out just you were perfect in the first half and then you know able to air it out a little bit more kind of looking back at it on film where you're able to have more takeaways from your performance than immediately after the game I think so yeah I thought we did some really good things in the first half like you had said um but there's definitely more things we can work on and you know I just felt a sense of confidence during the first half that I hadn't felt for a long time um and I thought our Playmakers made made a ton of plays for us last three games you guys have been passina about ESS with a lot more you feel like things are open enough get more responsibility I think so um you know I think the coaches have really seen some growth in some of the skill players that we have so they're trying to find ways to get them the ball why is this program so good at the bye and dealing the bye all that goes anywhere I just think we use the bye to our advantage um you know we try to focus on one practice at a time and really um you know we're just focused on us and and not not focused on what other teams in the conference are doing um so I think that's always really helped us with the bye you basically have a four game stretcher now that you look at you know you know despite a couple of losses you go 4 and0 you're probably back where you back where you want to be oh for sure you know like I had said before we're just trying to take it take it one one day at a time and one game at a time just going one and0 that week um so we're really not trying to look ahead too much but but we know what's at stake for sure looking at the film what do you see from that illino state defense they're going to bring a lot of pressure and they definitely have a lot of guys on their defense that can create problems for our offense for sure you see those younger players during bison week as an coach an called it what's that like for those guys you know it's like their chance to prove themselves for sure and I think for the upper classman it's a great way for us to teach and kind of bring these young guys along and see what kind of improvement they've made over the last six weeks and I think those young guys really did some good things last week from the from the receiving core obviously DJ is one like that is an example of that where you know Z even Zach to where you can see from week to week and that the progressions there and you I can feel like there's kind of a more of a rapport with uh with those guys with you I think for sure I think we're starting to kind of kind of hit our stride a little bit um again I think it comes down to timing and we've been putting in a lot of work after practice and those guys are just making plays on Saturday what do you guys to do to establish a rhythm offensively I think we got a win on first and second down um I think sometimes we get behind the chains by you know I feel like we kind of shoot ourselves in the foot a little bit on first and second down sometimes and it just creates a stall on offense and then we have to punt it away so I would just say being clean on first and second and down first and second down and then if we have to get to third down we got to convert do you think penalties have hurt that as well I do I think uh over the last 3 or four weeks we've had some penalties that have really sort of impacted the outcome of the game for sure d DJ said he had like 20 guys on Signing Day from his high school can you imagine how many that's a that's pretty good talent yeah I only had two so I can't really Adine that at all
