Weather Authority alert day continues because we're expecting yet another hot day as we continue with this late August Heat Wave we're also expecting some showers and storms but for right now temperatures are 75° it feels like 77 because the humidity is pretty high out there we have a Northerly wind at 5 mph but again mostly clear skies are going to be persisting throughout the next couple of hours Rocky mounts at 73 Lynchberg 70 Hillsville 66 Danville at 7 Hot Springs up there at around 70° if you're headed out the door within the next couple of minutes it's going to stay mostly sunny temperatures are going to get back into the 80s between the hours of 9 and 10 a.m. and then we're only going to get warmer from there so we'll get to about 94 degrees here in Rono Rocky Mountain will'll get to 92 Martinsville 93 Stewart 91 wiv 88 degrees Hillsville in Independence 85 GX will also likely get to about 85 Lexington and buav Vista will get to about 91 1 to 92° Lynchberg and Forest about 93 to 94 alav Vista 94 Danville South Boston about 95° this afternoon now the muggy meter is going to be through the roof it's going to be gross outside while our temperatures are down a little bit for today compared to yesterday our humidity is up about 5° so it's going to be gross at time the the muggy meter is feeling tropical for the day as dupoint temperatures is going to be around the 70° Mark and when you factor in the Heat and the humidity you get your heat index values we'll be peing anywhere from 100 to 105 degrees from Lexington all the way to Stewart and everywhere out towards the east this includes South Boston Charlotte Courthouse Alta Vista Lynchburg Rocky Mount ronoke you name it all areas to the East are going to feel pretty hot this afternoon for parts of the New River Valley notice a little bit of disparity there's orange and red on the map here 90 to 95 for our more Western areas and our more northern areas like green brow Pocahontas and Highland counties from Bath County all the way down to Carroll County we're expecting temperatures to feel anywhere from 95 to 100° now heat exhaustion is going to be the big story of the day please drink plenty of water again don't leave a dog or a cat or a kid in a vehicle for too long with the car off okay um we definitely don't want to be doing that we want to reduce uh strenuous activities outside and if you are outside for prolonged time please try to drink plenty of water as it's going to be hard for uh your sweat to evaporate off your skin which is how our body cools because it's going to feel pretty hot out there severe risk for today level one out of five we also have a flood risk in effect for today level one out of five primarily for the Rono Valley uh including parts of the Highlands Lynchberg and even parts of Southside so let's track through future cast for you mostly clear through about lunch hour then we'll notice partly cloudy skies starting to build build in then we'll start to notice some showers and storms get going in our West Virginia and most western mountainous counties then those will continue to track off towards the east throughout the late afternoon into the overnight hour so notice mostly cloudy and muggy and rainy throughout our Thursday night but after this front passes it's going to take through Friday it's going to take through Saturday and even into parts of Sunday once we get to Labor Day temperatures are going to turn a lot cooler so as we have a look at your 7-day forecast 92 today 78° next Tuesday for the Highlands
