hello my name is ky abass I'm a junior health science major on the premedical track from Dallas Texas and my response to the following questions are I believe I can contribute to the Spellman College chapter the NAACP by leveraging my passions for public health and advocating to address healthc care disparities that disproportionately affect marginalized communities my background in health science and my desire to pursue medicine allows me to bring a healthc care focused perspective to the discussion around civil rights additionally my experience in community service such as working with students and underserved areas equip me with the skills needed to engage with others empathetically and strategically I can contribute by advocating for policies that improve access to health care and create educational workshops on public health issues that align with naacp's vision for achieving equity for all and and my response for the second question is as an African-American woman from the south side of um Dallas I have lived with experience in navigating the Health Care system as a person with chronic illness I bring a unique perspective that Bridges personal and professional interest my journey with chronic illness has given me a deeper understanding of the structures of inequalities within the healthcare system which fuels my drive to advocate for improved health care and resources this experience allows me to connect with others facing similar struggles making me a more attuned to healthcare related needs for both Spellman community and the broader black community also my role is treasure for the Spellman future Public Health leaders and my involvement in various um in the Spellman sisters um stem organization also provides me with leadership experience and a collaborative mindset these attributes would enhance the chapter's efforts to organize more impactful initiatives addressing concerns with mental health health care access and educational disparities by contributing my voice and skills I believe I can help strengthen the chapter capacity for advocating for justice both on campus and um on the broader Community thank you so much for taking your time out of your day to listen to my responses and I hope you have a great afternoon
