this week on CBS News 247 all day coverage of the Democratic National Convention with special editions of America decides and the Daily Report with John Dickerson and followed by complete coverage from the CBS News political team live from Chicago stream all day coverage this week here on CBS News hello thank you for joining us I'm John Dickerson in Chicago on the fourth and final day of the Democratic National Convention after three consecutive nights of speeches spectacle and celebrity Democrats are ready to receive the person around which all of that has swirled tonight vice president kamla Harris will formally accept the Democratic nomination for president she will be the first woman of color to lead a major political party's ticket 52 years after New York congresswoman Shirley chis became the first woman of color to seek a major party's nomination Harris's path to this moment didn't start until exactly 1 month ago yesterday when President Biden dropped out of the race now with his support and an energized base before her kamla Harris will take the torch passed down by the outgoing commanderin-chief running by our side is Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz who last night introduced himself to a national audience the former football coach rallied the crowd for the 2 and 1/2 month Sprint to election day look we got 76 days that's nothing there'll be time to sleep when you're dead we're going to leave it on the [Applause] field CBS News senior White House correspondent oua Jang always leaves it on the field and she joins me now WEA it's good to see you it's been fun spending these last few days with you um all right so what are we expecting all right so we have learned that she has three main objectives for tonight for the biggest political speech of her life um and she wants to focus on sharing her personal story talking about coming from a middle class family uh being raised by a working mother working at McDonald's these are a lot of the themes that we've already heard but we expect that she will build on it even more she will draw contrast between her and former president Donald Trump and that this issue matters and so they are watching her like a hawk they expect some kind of um progress on this and and they feel disappointed that so far that hasn't come White House correspondent oui Jang thanks Wei and let's now go back to New York City to my colleague Lindsay Riser from our studio up there Lindsay you got the rest of the highlights from today including Trump's visit to the Border yeah before we get there though Wall's comment sleep when you're dead that was for elected officials volunteers and journalists right John right it is but you know I don't we're you know in this Modern Age where we're all concerned about our mental health I don't know if that message is exactly going to um you know is what we should be telling our kids just uh you know as a parent I'm a little that makes me a little nervous that's fair they've got the apps they've got headspace and Comm they're in good hands thanks John we'll see you back here later this hour as John mentioned former president Donald Trump campaigned at the US Southern Border in Arizona today it's his third visit to the Border during the election cycle but his first time doing so from Arizona of of course a key Battleground State during his visit he criticized his opponent KLA Harris pinning the Biden administration's border policies on her for nearly four years as borders our comrade kamla has overseen a nation wrecking border Invasion CBS News political correspondent Caitlyn Hy Burns is traveling with the former president in montazuma pass Arizona Kaitlin we heard a little bit from Trump attacking Harris what else did he say today hey good to see you
