Boise State coach Spencer Danielson talks Wednesday ahead of opener at Georgia Southern

yeah well guys here we are we uh just finished Wednesday practice workday Wednesday and we head out to uh to Savannah tomorrow so A team's in a good spot we still got some things to continue to clean up and fine-tune and that was the message on Monday and then Tuesday's practice is the best teams continue to get better in everything they do from a walkthrough to a practice to an install to treatment and that's the message to our team is yes we've had some time we've been working on Georgia Souther now for a while but there's still things we got to continue to F tune and things we got to get better at to play our best football on Saturday so proud of where our team is um from all facets now we just got to keep fine-tuning it to make sure um we we give ourselves an opportunity to go win game one and that that's my message to the team earn the right to be one and0 earn the right in everything you do don't don't live in any regrets um there's going to be things that go our way on Saturday things that don't earn the right to play your best football on Saturday afternoon uh down in Statesboro so proud of where we're at we head out tomorrow uh afternoon after practice and we'll hit the ground run so fired up you meent you mentioned just the the the hype and everything being put away time to play how how eager are the players just to to get get a game yeah they're ready at this point in the year for I would assume every team BJ but especially where we're at right now where expectations who you're going to be what concerns uh things that we're going to be good at it's like guys we got to go put on film and and and as a coach and I know as our players right now we are ready to go put it on film whatever that is and for me guys that you're excited about maybe guys you're kind of like man he needs to take a big step he hasn't maybe shown us what he wants to it's time just to go see exactly where we're at there's going to be guys after this game that they um exceeded expectations we have from there's going to be some guys in this game that maybe we had high hopes for that didn't achieve what we wanted to and then we as coaches got to hit the ground running to make sure we grow and develop them so we're at that point I know our players are ready our coach are ready to go out there and play a different opponent than o versus de year that we've been going through um and they're ready for it at what point does it really hit you that The Season's here is it after this practice is it you know Saturday one of you guys kick off what point does it really start to feel like this season here that's a good question I think I I think I'm finally into that as game week happens obviously as we start for me it's always when you're in that bus heading to the stadium that's when you start to feel like it's happening right now and so I'm sure leaving tomorrow on the plane um it's a long flight so we'll have plenty of time to think about uh you know the season starting and what it is but I'm excited man there's been so much preparation our staff's done a great job and I know everyone around the country says that going into week one no one says we did not do a good job in Fall Camp everybody feels good now we got to go put it on film to see if we did you've never been a head coach for a season opener and you're also a big picture your guys so be selfish for 30 seconds how are you processing Saturday M I'm just trying to I'm a big process guy Mike to to even your question is and so no different as an assistant as a coordinator I've got a checklist of things that I got to do to make sure I'm my best for our team and that's what I'm focusing on is whatever it is from game management to Thursday when we land to my Friday meeting with the team I got to make sure those are on point so I'm I'm focus on the things I can control to make sure I'm my best for our team and I believe that the rest of it will figure itself out but I'm a big process guy to go to so then you're not hoping I I don't got to go put Superman cape off on Saturday no different than our players follow your process trust your process and stick to it and I will be consistent that's the thing I promise our team like I'm going to be high energy intense positive all the time that's who I am and I got to be consistent for our team are you a curfew guy on Friday nights absolutely yeah what time is curfew local time uh I'll be I'll I try to be asleep as quickly as I can but usually I just stare at the wall for a little bit but um actually the team yes oh yeah no we'll be yeah so curfews at 10:00 I you talking about myself okay I put myself in curfew all the time My Wife puts me in curfew no we have 10:00 yeah uh my wife's coming okay my wife's coming yeah curfew will be at 10:00 and that's going to be the biggest thing we get there on Thursday is some of the time change differences especially with a long flight trying to make sure our guys handle this flight the right way so they can get to get to bed on time which is like 8:00 our time in Boise so it's always a little bit funky when you travel across the country but there will be a curfew on Thursday and Friday what's the advantage of the process of practicing and then hopping on the plane yeah it's it's so much better to get practice in at home cuz just from an operation standpoint you know where everything is you got all the equipment you need the films right there and so just being able to keep our guys in as much Rhythm as you can that's why even on um most games we able to do all our practices at home and then if we're going to fly out for a game we'll fly out after practice just to keep our guys in the rhythm of a practice I know that the depth chart is not out yet but in terms of some true freshman we might see or Sur prises or any position battles you're willing to divulge what can you tell us about kind of how it shaped out yeah it's I think we're in a good place there there's still some like there's going to be you know rotations going on in this game at a bunch of different positions to continue to to see where guys are at cuz this is what we're judged on we are judged on what happens 12 nights a year and so there's going to be still some positions as we go into game one that we're going to rotate and make sure the best guys continue to play and who's playing better we'll we'll play more um but there's a lot of guys that stepped up BJ we had some guys like we talked about early androll lead that have done a really good job in Spring ball to fall Camp um but some true freshman that I'm excited for we talked about C gains like he's going to have a huge huge role in this game game on offense ande teams cam Bates is another true freshman receiver that stepped up and done a really good job and there's going to be some true freshman um on special teams that have earned it not just because they're not good enough right now to maybe play on o or D they've earned it they've worked their theirself up the depth chart on these special teams units and found a way to play on Saturday so um I'm excited to see those guys cut it loose and see how they act and play When the tension and the stress is through the roof all right coach M and guys just a couple things just for you guys to know about um with obviously the new rule with coach and and now this essentially unlimited um guys that can coach we changed some guys titles that deserved it and have done a really good job so first off Zayn Buist is going to be assistant dline coach is going to be his title BJ Mullen is going to be assistant linebacker coach Steve Cooper is going to be assistant quarterback coach Derek McMahon is going to be assistant special teams and assistant secondary coach Tyler Rossa is going to be specialist coach and external relations coordinator and Rollin Collins is going to be senior defensive analyst and assistant safeties coach these guys have been here outside of of Steve Cooper they've all been here for a year seen them work seen how they do things and they've done a phenomenal job and Steve Cooper since he's been here been nothing but um honestly awesome done a phenomenal job with Dirk cutter with our quarterbacks and the preparation of our offense and helping him with the QBs so all these guys this is deserved and earned is Durk if Dirk's upstairs is Cooper on the sideline um he is going to be on yes you get us that list
