Wars poverty climate change but forget all that because one of the more pressing issues many countries are noted to facing is of course Generation Z and Japan is no different so exactly what problems are the Land of the Rising Sun facing with their gen Z yes I think many young people in Japan including me they don't drink alcohol and they don't smoke and also they do not socialize with each other so you know that's a problem sometimes right well that's what we're going to explore in this video in many aspects the Gen Z of Japan share the same kind of characteristics as gen Z in most parts of the world they're digital natives growing up in a world where the internet already existed and during the rise of social media part of what this means is younger Japanese people are used to obtaining raw information about what is happening in Japan and around the world previous generation so here I kind of want to disagree with him because when it comes to what's happening in Japan yes they can gather that kind of information easily because they speak Japanese when it comes to English that's so different for example in Japan many people they don't know under Tate right one time he was the most Google man on Earth right under Tate but nobody knows about under Tate okay so internet in Japan is so different from internet in the state or let's say English speaking countries that's so different so in Japan including gen Z they don't know what's happening outside of Japan they know what's happening inside of Japan not outside of Japan I would sayans were and many still are used to gaining their information from traditional forms of media like newspapers and TV in fact a huge reason why traditional media is still thriving in Japan is simply because there aren't as many young people with the average age being around 49 making Japan I think that's also why anime is struggling sometimes because what you know why guys because anime use air on Golden time which is 7 p.m. 8:00 p.m. Sunday Saturday right but now because maybe they aren't enough kids anymore they don't do that now it's like you know let's for example new anime let's say Rama right Rama is going to air around 2 a.m. 2 a.m. guys on TV who's going to watch it right on 2 a.m. crazy stuff and's population the oldest in the world however as many might have already known traditional media is often quite selective on what is reported and tends to spin stories in a particular way depending on their audience [Music] Bas what this has resulted in is a communication divide between gen Z and previous generations on a range of topics however we are seeing a rise in more older Japanese internet users within more recent years but let's get to the main issue which is typically brought up when talking about gen Z work ja Society is heavily centered around working and nothing beats social credit like being a full-time employee AKA say shine in a top company Japanese company practices also typically require a level of commitment that goes beyond the job description and being active in trying to get your boss to like you so you can climb the corporate ladder which is also assumed to be something you want to do something else I don't usually hear about within other videos that discuss Japanese working culture is the view older Generations take that company members are like family where you'd be given a role like being the big brother or sister this is actually used as a method to stop new grads from suddenly quitting by letting their senior AKA Senpai be someone they can go easily talk to but we'll talk about the quitting issue in just a bit overall the expectation for Japanese companies is that you'll stay within that company for life being moved into different departments at the company's convenience however he's right mostly but this is changing by the way many young people they don't think that's good idea and this kind of working for one company for life is changing in Japan for the better or for the worse who knows what's going to happen in the future but many young people are questioning this kind of uh uh kind of I guess uh Norm in Japan so let's see many of the Gen Z in Japan are seeing work differently seeing it as just a place to work I know shocking this has led to complaints from superiors that they aren't able to communicate and bond anymore with those below them as many younger workers aren't as keen on chitchatting and also refuse to go out drinking with their boss after work preferring to prioritize their private time not only that a big complaint about jenzi when it comes to communication within the workplace is that they're too sensitive reasoning for this is the notable increase in the types of haras there are Hara meaning harass ment the most common type of hara you are bound to hear about is seara which stands for sexual harassment but now different haras are constantly popping up and many attribute this to gen Z for example yumara yum meaning dream now some of you might be scratching your heads wondering what kind of harassment exactly is that essentially this is when your boss or Senpai asks you about your dreams as in what you aspired to do some preferring to just not talk about their dreams or just not having any dreams in the first place feeling that they were just put yeah I think this is really telling right many young people in this case jnz right they don't have any dreams they don't want to start a company they don't want to do anything like crazy they don't have huge dream they want to work for companies that are secure and they want to have Secure Retirement that's what it is it's not like hey I want to be like Steve Jobs or I want to be like somebody else or I want to go to Hollywood no many young people they don't want to hear your dreams too because it's like I don't have any dreams so do not tell your tell me your dream it just please that kind of thing I think uh kind of we weird I think but on the spot what also counts as yumehara is when those superiors talk about their dreams basically because the younger workers don't really care there is also another trait about jenz that is something we often hear about in the news they easily quit yes as I mentioned before quitting is probably the biggest issue many companies are facing with Gen Z forget about staying for Life some quit within a year what's also interesting is that some will choose not to say they quit themselves but will use an agency that is specialized in quitting on behalf of their clients Yes you heard that right some reasons for this though are actually pretty understandable you see some bosses here simply don't say okay when you say you're going to quit this is particularly in the case of clients who work at a black company some bosses will actually try to stop their employees from quitting becoming really aggressive or even threatening them with some Financial liability you know he's right that in Japan there are some black companies in Japan but you know to be honest many young people genz or possibly J alpha or now just gen Z maybe but the thing is even companies are pretty good or decent uh they don't want to just uh say oh I'm quitting in person because it's just awkward you know so I think again I think today's younger generation they because they are used to using smartphones right that kind of thing they're not good at communicating especially in person I'm not good at talking in person too you know I'm socially awkward uh but I think they they're worse than me sometimes interestingly though it actually isn't new grads that make up the bulk of users for this service one agency even revealed it was less than 20 % but that the number was Rising now reasons why new grads are quitting vary from things like finding out the company wasn't like what they were told during the interview to simply not getting along with their co-workers but there is another Trend fear for the future to be honest this isn't just gen Z but many of the younger generation are concerned that they aren't obtaining the skills they need for future progress or see their superiors are not getting pay increases but are just doing double the amount of work a lot of Japanese companies have put in effort to improve their work environments from trying to decrease overtime to changing how superiors talk with subordinates but even with great working conditions if younger workers don't feel challenged they'll look elsewhere this is certainly a big change from older Generations but essentially it boils down to gen Z wanting a good work environment where they also feel that their future is secure the Power Balance has started to shift in Japan it's no longer about what the employees can do for the company but what the company can do for the employee Japanese companies that can't comply with those needs are going to continue to lose early stage workers okay guys that's going to do it for this video as someone who has worked in a number of Japanese companies with a lot of the younger generation with a lot of gen Z honestly speaking I can see their drive I can see their passion I can see that they actually do want to work but they also want to improve their skills they are scared they are worried about what is going to happen to them economically speaking is not in the best of places and they know it a lot of the genz know it and they are expecting things from companies now they want to see the you know that's kind of funny because they know that Japan the future is not bright but uh as we talk about it here they don't study English they don't bother to study English right that's kind of weird right because you would think that if they think oh there is no future in Japan you would think they would study English right because then they can leave but many these they don't speak English not really so it's like they're stuck too right so I don't understand it and also yes I think they're kind of they don't like the old culture in Japan working culture which is okay understandable but the thing is I always think this way too so if they don't like what's happening in Japan or if they don't like you know what the huge corporations are doing I'm like start your own business if you think you can change stuff right but the thing is many young people today are starting less companies I mean compared to previous generation they're not starting new company right no not really so I think I see many gen Z complaining in Japan and personally I don't like it and uh yeah I mean life is tough and difficult sometimes and yeah you know it's today especially in Japan it's getting hard harder yes but now you know like yeah so those companies are going to provide for their Futures so yeah Japanese companies are just going to have to step up that's basically the deal anyway thank you again for watching this video please leave your thoughts your comments in the comment section below and yeah I'll be back with another video thank you so much guys take care peace thank you so much nion John I think he is right about jenzy wanting to change the culture in Japan but I think uh uh I don't want to sound harsh but I think they want to change something but they they're not going to bring anything in the turn I think so that's kind of the problem and many companies are like trying to repace workers with AI and stuff so that's going to be tough and you know I don't know again I think this is interesting you know stuff that's happening in Japan but again I think I just don't understand if they think the future is not here in Japan I don't understand why they're not studying English why they're not studying new skills I don't understand it
