Harry Kane 100th cap for England yesterday he spoke about his remarkable personal Milestone uh no it was almost uh yeah a perfect night you know as a as a striker of course on my 100th cap I wanted to to score a goal and and make the night as memorable as possible and yeah to win the game as well so to score you know a couple good goals couple nice finishes and uh help the team win 2-0 was was uh yeah pretty much perfect so um yeah a proud night for me and the family and and now we can enjoy it great night for Harry Kane love to see him get on the score sheet as well he's been absolutely fantastic for England over the years he's been directly involved in 85 goals in his 100 appearances for England 68 goals 17 assists uh he scored his 26th and 27th in 35 games at Wembley as well that was already the most of any England player uh playing at Wembley as well he's got a a raft of England records at this point in time so just so just REM so 100 caps yeah 95 plus under G Southgate I'm guessing I imagine so many of them yeah 62 goals under G Southgate and we never played ATT attacking football more more assists and more goals than any other Englishman under Gareth and didn't play that much attacking football well this was meant to be a bit where we just G Harry Kane credit but but he's well I I was list I was listening early I was listening this morning um you know across the different shows and of course it's leg is Harry Kane a legend you know was a huge part of that yeah obviously you know well I think you have to Define what Legend means not not really well you do let's go for the classic Legend which is what legend of the England men's Senior Team he he is an England Legend but is he as good as this was the argument that's a different argument is he is he is he as much of a legend as the team that won the World Cup no well he's an individual player so are you saying is he as much a legend of s Bobby Charon as one of the team that won the work he's not going to be a bigger Legend than the entire team is he he's just an individual no is is is he a bigger Legend than S Bobby Charon no so Bobby uh should have been so Bobby M but he obvious you know Noby Styles no that that's the problem but he's still an England Legend but why so is so is way the legend yes of course he is g l yeah so how many Legends have we got well how many Legends do you think there should be so where where that's what I'm saying where did you draw the line at legendary stat leg is like is like for me is like the greatest so is Harry Kane the greatest Englishman of all time no cuz he's not won a World Cup or he's not one of Euros I I would say a legend is look let's put it this way you're a striker if you get the record of top goal scorer for your country as a striker I think you'd hit legendary status don't you agree you don't think a player not not if others have outdone that and my only argument they Haven well they have they won the World Cup oh I see sorry I thought you I thought you meant in terms of the goal scor that's what I'm saying you know so it's Legend is like greatest you know you have to be the best to be that that's that's how I look at Legend don't so you can say well you know Messi is now you know Messi is a legend because of what he's done and what he's achieved at every single club and international level Ronaldo is a legend because of what they've achieved you know at their levels the argument this morning was George best but George best was the best Northern Irish player of all time yeah without a shadow of a doubt no one eclipsed that so therefore although he didn't win anything he can be a legend you know within that no it doesn't work like that well I I think it does it it doesn't work like that it's like the great surely is is the same as the greatest records will always be broken someone will always go further at some point in time than what you achieved during your time around whether whether Harry Kane lives to see it or not eventually one day someone will surpass his record for England England it just is how things have worked so you can't take away what he did during his time in terms of scoring goals he he is the best so so therefore so where where do you go down the list of who is a legend well I think you can take it on a player-by-player basis but it has to be around achievement I think you become a legend and by the way you you can you can become a legend for various reasons um in terms of your status in terms of your impact you can become a legend different unbelievable player he's an unbelievable go he's one of the greatest we've ever seen obviously goal scorers in the Premier League and and you know the greatest I just think legendary status is thrown around an awful lot when you look at in my true Legends of the game so you're saying that he needed to win a tournament to to be a legend I think had he won a Euros you change your opinion yes because he's not won anything as an England player which is why s Jeff Hurst you know Bobby Charlton Jack Charlton yeah but George best didn't get to a major tournament but no one no neither did any other Northern Irish player so therefore it's comparable he was better than any other Northern Irish player that ever existed so therefore he's the greatest so therefore he's a legend I wouldn't argue he's not but you're talking about Harry Kane needing to do something on the pitch at Major tournament to better than those other players that we talked about with legendary St so for you the only England Legends the only England Legends in the men's senior team are the ones that won the World Cup in 1966 yeah that Squad okay and an interesting Viewpoint it's an opinion I don't agree with it but I think you know because if not where' you go in terms of Legend has to be the greatest you have to be the greatest in your field to become a legend surely there's different ways of looking at it but I I would say you like like you have to make an enormous impact on the team to go down as a legend go down was Messi a legend for Argentina until he won the World Cup yeah of course he was it wasn't up there with maradon though I know but you you speak about the best so if if we were to have a conversation but for Barcelona yes it was unb it was absolute Legend but did the Argentinian fans have Messi in the same category as maradon well no they didn't doesn't mean he's not a legend it means he they don't they didn't they didn't hold him in as a high esteem as maradon maybe they don't now but it doesn't mean that he's not a legend legendary status means there's an argument Harry Kane scored more goals fine but I just think to be a legend you've got to be the absolute best and achieve more in that field than anybody else to be compared if no if england had never won the World Cup wouldn't be in doubt but that's the problem how far do you go down that list of leg so is Brian Robson England Legend yeah is Peter Reed an England Legend that's tough well so so why why not what's the difference is Peter shilon England Legend oh I'm asking you I just on sheer number of caps well is he an England Legend in your view or not we didn't win the World Cup no he's got more caps than anyone more appearances that what does that mean it means he had a huge impact on the international team doesn't necessarily mean you're a legend mean you're the highest cap winner oh my word that was me trying to have a conversation with Danny Mills about how great Harry Kane was he's unbelievable he's an unbelievable goal scorer he's a phenomenon he's absolutely superb but if you're talking about England Legends in my opinion it means you've got to be equivalent of those that have achieved more within 30 seconds Harry Kane 68 goals in 100 England caps do you think he can go on and on and how long for there's no one really to take over that's the problem so as long as he stays fit uh no reason why he can't keep playing he it the body you get to this age with that age uh I know it were and body starts to give up at times recovery gets harder the little niggles take a little bit longer to get from so if he stays fit he'll have a great opportunity but I think what does he need to stay fit for every single game to get to 125 caps which would be the the World Cup it's a big ask big big ask on am on da via
