live up to expectations who will not my guest is Keith mcferson of WFAN it is a Sunday edition of nyf flight Jets talk and we are live j e t s j jet J let's [Music] go Jet's wide receiver Wesley and we have made it although the Jets don't play till tomorrow night week one of the NFL season is here there will be a whole slate of games coming your way starting at 100 p.m. Eastern Standard Time let's get right into it let's bring in our guest for today show Keith mcferson of WFAN Keith how you doing yo can you hear me good you got me loud and clear awesome good morning uh this is great man this is uh something we've been working on and talking about for over a month um shout out to you Connor you're the man I I heard your call into Rich Eisen show and uh I see your your graphics and your channel and you're professional the way you reached out to me to have me on your show is very professional so here I am happy to do it on the first NFL Sunday well Keith I appreciate it and you know you've really taken off this past year or so on WFAN doing the overnight shifts now one of the one of the more well-known hosts there for sure but let's get right into it we'll start off with some with some Jets talk here about their their opening matchup obviously there's a lot of hype surrounding you know Will McDonald Germaine Johnson who will step up with Assan reic inactive who do you think that's that player is going to be do you think do you think do you think Will McDonald has a chance to be that guy no I think he'll be okay I think he'll be solid I don't think he'll be somebody that will hurt the team I look at Germaine Johnson on that defensive line as a guy that was ascending last year he's gonna have to do it again you already know about quinnon Williams he's one of the best at his position um you need these other guys like Tac McKinley or Solomon Thomas the guys that are gonna come in on that second unit to hold it down and and and still be solid up front it's tough to lose Bryce tough and John Franklin Meers and have the Hassan reic issue going on right now but there's a lot of dogs on that Jets defense they'll be fine absolutely and then the Hassan Ric situation Keith what is he going to report I mean he we're one day away from the Jets opening matchup he's still not there he's officially been ruled out of the game could you see something the Jets have his rights if he doesn't report by week 11 could you see something where all right he reports in week 10 just so the Jets don't have his rights next season I don't know I saw a lot of different reports I don't know what's to believe if it's gone this long it's going to continue I don't think either side is going to Blink I don't think the Jets want to pay him I don't think he wants to show up without being paid so it's a standoff for a long time and um I I I have no prediction what I'll say is when I first heard of this and I got on WFAN my take was trade him again act like this never happened if this guy doesn't want to be here after literally coming here and in the press conference saying I'm going to give it my all they're going to get the best of me and you know acting like he wanted to be here if he doesn't want to be here because he doesn't have the money let it be somebody else's problem because clearly the Eagles thought twice about it they signed Bryce Huff they traded him away and now here we are with this um little bit of a mess it's not a big mess but it's a little bit of a mess and a little bit of a negative Cloud hanging over week one and however many weeks this goes on for the Jets you think they should look to trade him it was pretty evident the Jets got the the four uh the Eagles excuse me got a couple third round picks in exchange for giving giving away reic now with this hold out I don't think any team would want to take on this situation what does reck's trade value look like now he's got a play I mean I guess we all have this image in our head of the player that he was and what he can do but he's got a play man um this isn't good this is uh now two teams that you've had issues with the Eagles the Jets he's getting older I don't know what his value is um I think he's overvaluing himself in a league where there are pass rushers coming in every year where these guys emerge every single year um he's gotta play he's got a he's got a play to prove his worth absolutely everyone smash that like button make sure you're subscribed to the channel we're join Let's see we got some nerds in the chat we got is that the guy that thought kenoby was real I have no idea what that means do you remember that Keith uh one cringe one of one of our listeners Bob Bobby midnight is his name he called into your WFAN show and asked you about kenoby from college I don't have the clip with me right now but that was do remember now there's a you know a trolling effort that goes on and I didn't think kenoby was real it's draft time there's a bunch of new names there's a bunch of college kids coming in and every time I was asked about it I'm like who is this I'm not familiar with this person so uh didn't think they were real just never heard of them before yeah some some fan prank calls there one of them from our from our listeners Bobby midnight and and Gator wants to know any thoughts on on the Jets passing on kenoby from from college could you put that guy at almost any position yeah I mean um it's the same as uh Buchanan Buchanon Buchanan like go Buchanon go Buchanon go like U there's a lot of losers out here that have nothing better to do than the troll good luck to you guys hopefully you're making money hopefully you're living your dreams out doing stuff like that I'm gonna move over to the offensive side of the ball Keith Bree Hall he's going to be you know a weapon for the Jets obviously this season and how are the 49er how are they going to contain him that's one of the major questions they obviously have Fred Warner who's a leite one of the one of the best linebackers in all the football what what do you think the expectation is for Bree in in week one uh I mean he's considered the second best running back in the league across from Christian mcaffrey who will be on the field I think Bree has a lot to prove still and he says it that he hasn't done much in the league but we we all respect his game he's not coming off the injury you know like he was last year and in the first game last year he looked like he wasn't even hurt he was breaking runs he was strong so um I just hope that the Jets play calling doesn't stop him I hope that Nathaniel hacket and Aaron roders make sure that he's the focal point handing him the ball even throwing him the ball out of the back field I think he'll have a big day uh he was just quoted telling Jets fans to make sure they keep the game on it's gonna be a long game and Bree Hall he he he looks like Incredible Hulk man that guy's been in the weight room I I think that he's got to be the focal point of the offense to make it easier on Aaron Rodgers so that they're not keying on Aaron Rodgers you know knocking Aaron roggers on his back I think it's all about Bree and then that's going to open things up for guys like Garrett Wilson Allan laar Tyler Conlin now what do you think the ceiling is for him is this season as a whole we saw him not you know 1500 yards from scrimmage last season H with one of the worst offens with one of if not the worst offensive line in football the most combinations in the league with 13 and just poor play even when they could stay on the field and you saw Hall produce those numbers what do you think the ceiling is for Hall in terms of yardage oh he could lead the league in rushing I definitely think he could be a league leader in rushing right now when you look at you know just the first couple games right people drafted Derrick Henry High in fantasy Isaiah Pacho high in fantasy those guys didn't rush for a 100 yards um saquon Barkley did his thing and Josh Jacobs was able to get to 84 yards but right now um I look at Bree is like let's see what they do today Sunday if he has 125 yards on the ground he could start off week one in the lead and uh if they consistently feed him the football man I I don't see why he can't be a leading rusher in the NFL if he's healthy now what do you think the rotation of the Jets receivers is going to look like obviously you have Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams leading the way Mike Williams according to Robert sols on a quote pitch count in week one so we might not see a ton of him right away but what do you think it's going to look like between some of the younger guys and Xavier Gibson he's really interesting one because you know he's he's going to be the jet starting punt returner and one of the kick returners this season and he's expected to step into a bigger role as one of the main jet slot receivers what are your thoughts on Gibson I like Gibson a lot I mean this guy was drafted he came out of Steven F Austin he Shifty when we saw him in Hard Knocks right um Randall Cobb was kind of giving him a nod like yeah this guy's got something about him and when we go back to week one of last year man that that that return that he had to win the game that was electric so um when I look at him this year he's got to continue he's got to build on that and I think he can be a weapon for the Jets if they get him the ball in open space and let him create now obviously it's Garrett Wilson number one number one number one he's got to get the most targets he's got to get the most touches out of the receivers but I look for Alan Lazard to actually be you know more valuable to the Jets this year he wasn't valuable at all last year but he didn't come here to play with Tim Bole and Zack Wilson and Trevor Simeon um he's actually gonna be a lot better I think with Aaron Rogers because he's got reps and rapport with Rogers Mike Williams down the field threat jump ball threat a big receiver but they're gonna bring him along slow obviously coming back from injury they say he's going to be on a pitch count but I mean he's he's cleared he's full go and I I I want to see if they are able to get Malachi Corley involved because that's a guy that we saw coming out the draft you know had nothing to do with kenoby um we all knew that when when he got drafted his highlight tape he's a Bruiser he gets yards after catch and I want to see how involved they get him in the offense as a rookie now what do you think you know you mentioned you really like Garrett Wilson number one number one number one I couldn't agree with you more I don't know if you remember Keith G Brandon Marshall's 2015 season he said every single season record in Jets history for receptions yards and touchdowns if Rogers is able to stay healthy we'll call it he plays 145 games and also Garrett Wilson stays healthy he plays 15 16 games could you see something where Garrett Wilson as you know Brandon Marshall ask 2015 season yeah why not there's an extra week in the season and the NFL is more pass happy than ever uh from everything from fantasy to uh gambling and parlays it is just like throw the ball down the field and Garrett Wilson is a tough guy to cover he's going to be open you know brillan Allen rookie out of Wisconsin running back he he said he he's the best football player he's ever seen and I think he said that because he's watched him in practice and in joint practices against other teams and in preseason he's like nobody can check this guy so he's gonna be open and now he has Aaron Rogers to throw him the ball he was productive with Zach Wilson I can only really imagine and hope to see what he is with Aaron roggers absolutely now let's get into some questions in the chat Good Vibes Keith what game are you looking forward to most today and of the rookie quarterbacks who shines oh um the games that I'm looking forward to most uh right off the rip the Chicago Bears are favorite to beat the Tennessee Titans and I just I don't know I'm like I don't see why the Titans can't give them a run for their money they have a new regime an improved defense they have some weapons on offense Tony paard over there um we'll see I'm I'm interested to see because they you know for Chicago to be four-point favorit with a rookie quarterback in his first start I know cayb Williams says he doesn't get nervous but still there there's a lot of pressure um there um the commanders versus the Buccaneers the Buccaneers I mean they won a playoff game they won the division they they have to come out and continue um with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin and Rashad white and of course Baker Mayfield but I want to see what this new Commander team looks like I want to see what Jaden Daniels looks like Austin Eckler Terry McClaren and like I I want to see what they look like now under Dan Quinn I think that's going to be an intriguing matchup Sunday Night Football tonight is going to be excellent um you know just because the Lions made that trade with the Rams sending Jared G uh to LA and and and getting Matt Stafford and then they got a super bowl out of it I think people are sleeping on the Rams but I do expect the Lions to to win that game but I expect it to be highsc scoring you got too many weapons out there with Aman R st Brown pukaa Cooper cup Jam Williams jir Gibbs uh yes David Montgomery Kiren Williams Blake corm like I I just think there's a lot of good offensive weapons on the field so that should be a really good game um the Dallas Cowboys game Dak Prescott still did not signed a contract extension so he's entering this game as a potential free agent at the end of the year I don't think he cares but I think there's a lot of people expecting the Browns to perform like they did with Joe Flo at the end of the year last year old man Joe is backing up Anthony Richardson that's another good game the uh the Texans Colts game but yeah I I don't know what Deshawn Watson is I think the Desa Deshawn Watson that we saw years ago is gone so I'm very interested to see what Jerome Ford not Nick chub looks like and and Amari Cooper former Dallas Cowboy I'm very interested to see what miles Garrett and Michael parsons's do CD lamb that that Cowboys Browns game in the 425 window everybody's going to be watching and also Tom Brady's on the call yeah absolutely I think that's 100% the game to watch and then you mentioned the the Rams Lions game that's going to be another interesting match up I just let the thing I I think the Lions personally are one of the most fun teams to watch in the league just because of all the weapons they have how electrifying those players are am manra Sam leaport Jamir Gibbs Jamir Gibbs his lightning speed paired with am man Ra's elusiveness and then Sam laap Porto's ability to just you know speed and then yet the ability to just bulldo through guys it's just such a such a talented offense but keeping it going in here Blitz BK wants to know your record prediction for the season with the Jets Keith ah I don't know man I don't know so so I was talking to one of my friends I have a friend who is a DI hard Jets fan and he's ready to die hard this year like if there ever was a year he's like this is the year double digit wins making the playoffs going to the Super Bowl and I'm just like I agree but what we know in the NFL what can go wrong will like look at the Packers I was on air and I and I put out there that I thought the Packers could could get to the Super Bowl and two hours later that game ends in Brazil and Jordan Love Goes Down And I'm like so my prediction for the Jets this year I think that they will be an 11- win team I think they can legit if Aaron roggers is healthy and you look at the talent that they have uh on the the offense and defense I think they can get 11 wins I think they can beat the teams in their division I think they can sweep the Patriots I think they can get at least one win off the bills one win off the Dolphins I think they can win this first game and I was on air a month ago when I was like looking at the Niners and the turmoil going on I'm like Trent Williams is holding out Brandon auk isn't there Christian mcaffrey isn't practicing he's got a calf strain Ricky puraw got shot he's good through the grace of God yes Brock P's got a lot to prove still people still don't value him don't think he's one of the better quarterbacks in the league he wants to get paid will there be a Super Bowl hangover like all of these things things made me start thinking Aaron Rogers plays good against the ners Aaron Rogers still has a chip on his shoulder because he grew up rooting for that team and they didn't draft him number one overall if you guys um didn't see there's a clip of Alex Smith interviewing Aaron roders I haven't watched the full thing yet I've only seen the clips on Twitter it looks like it's excellent to have those two guys talk to each other but basically what I'm saying is if the Jets can go and steal this game which I believe they can because I believe with this new kickoff rule put in the ball at the 30 and with Aaron Rogers at quarterback all he has to do is get 30 yards 40 yards and you guys have legatron Greg Zur line Greg the leg and if he can kick the ball through the uprights I think that they're going to be very close um matched up Monday night in this only game and if they can steal this game from the ners they will start five and0 wow you said they start they start five and0 if they can steal this game from the ners look at the schedule the Jets will start 5 and0 oh no I completely agree I think at worst like everything goes wrong I think the worst possible start they could have is three and two personally I see them either going four- one or 5-0 I think a lot of I think I've I've said All Along The X Factor for the Jets in the 49ers game is containing George KD because the Jets have had TR trouble stopping tight ends over the years so it's like who are they gonna put on KD I think it's gonna be Tony Adams but who do you think they will put on George K because we've seen games hopefully not CJ Mosley we've seen David and joku have a field day with Mosley on they put sauce on on nooku week 17 of last season so you you who do you think it will be you said hopefully not Mosley do you think it'll be you know possibly I think I think Quincy will probably have CMC out of the back field maybe Michael Carter at times it depends it depends see that's the thing Kyle Shanahan is a master at lining these guys up and exposing weaknesses yeah where Kyle yuse cheek you're you're not sure if he's a halfback fullback if he's the tight end Double tight end um I'm not so worried about KD KD is very Boomer bust KD has games where he does nothing he'll have two or three catches and he's non-existent he he's a blocker but then KD also has games where he'll catch three passes scor three touchdowns I think he did that against the Dallas Cowboys that won't happen against the Jets the Jet's defense is too good no matter whether it is CJ Mosley or whether it is Michael Carter or Tony Adams or if they got to put sauce on him I I wouldn't worry so much about KD having a Boom game I think you got to stop the run game with CMC I think if if you can control Christian mcaffrey then your your DBS are going to be fine with iuk and and and Debo Samuels and I don't know Jan Jennings like I I think KD um isn't really that much of a threat to do damage the damage is going to come from Christian mcaffry in the backfield him running screens him gashing the defense when they are keying on other players out there now Keith you mentioned containing Christian mcaffrey who do you think is going to kind of lead that Revolt to stop the run do you think it's going to be mostly Quinn and Williams leading the way there Javon kinlaw obviously former team he's he's I think he's he's a big x- factor for the game Leonard Taylor we saw shine throughout the preseason Solomon Thomas had six sacks last year who do you see really contributing to stop the run on the inside yeah it starts up front quinnon Williams and Javon kinlaw Javon kinlaw has to have a chip on his shoulder going up against his former team has to have a chip on his shoulder being a top draft pick playing there to start his career quinnon Williams is is a man amongst boys I think if they clog up the middle they're good to go CJ Mosley man I I just want to believe that CJ Mosley is still like got it still that guy he's got to be flying around making tackles as well guys gotta hit it's the first game of the season and you know like I know these guys haven't been out there playing full speed like that sometimes guys don't want to bring their arms and Tackle sometimes guys want to just you know uh throw their their shoulder pad helmet at a guy and miss or um not wrap up you got to tackle guys like mcaffrey if they're all run to the ball if the whole defense is swarming to the ball they'll be all right absolutely Keith I really appreciate you joining me here and the final question I asked 4:25 because I don't know I'm not sure but Troy Aman I wore number eight and I played quarterback from age 12 to college and I wore number eight because Troy Aman I watch win Super Bowls when I was younger than you are so I would I would put my my brother Derek Jeter Troy Aman and then let me think of somebody who I admire that's not uh in sports Gary ve Gary Vayner that's a good one for you for you um Gary vayer from um you know you Jets fans Vayner media Vayner media um Gary ve I would love to sit down and break bread with he actually surprised me at Fanatics Fest and he joined my live WFAN show at Fanatics I got to interview him um that would be my for my older brother Shawn who helped raise me who made me competitive who used to beat me up who used to beat me in video games who used to race me who used to just like watch out for me I remember I got jumped and my brother pulled me out of the pile so I bring my brother Sean back Derek Jeter just you know one of my favorite alltime Yankees Captain a guy that everybody is impressed with um Troy Aman Who was the first like favorite player of mine who I admired I picked number eight to wear in football because of Troy Amman and last but not least uh Gary ve famous Jets fan that wants to buy the team a guy that I admire that I hope to actually in real life get to break bread with one day love it and Keith we have one team in common you root for the Cowboys I root for the Jets you root for the Yankees I root the Mets we are both Brooklyn Net fans and that's what matters that's a that's a really rare one the one I have all four teams in common with actually also of WF and Evan Roberts Mets Jets Nets and Rangers I've never he's the only one I've gotten all four with but you know great to have a fellow Nets fan on the show but Keith appreciate you joining me here you got any final thoughts the Nets will be back the Nets will be back it does not matter how many games we win this year enjoy the year not having any pressure enjoy these next three or four years where all the pressure is on the Knicks who are not used to having that much pressure aren't used to having that much talent the Knicks have to win in the next two three years and the Pendulum will swing back to Barkley Center the Nets now have their picks they have young Talent the future is bright the future's bright for the Jets as well the future's
