a special thank you to each of our subscribers who make this channel possible here's today's Story New Hampshire will elect a female governor for the third time in November after former US senator Kelly aot and former Manchester mayor Joyce Craig won their respective primaries Tuesday the governor's office is an open seat for the first time since 2016 thanks to Republican Governor Chris sununu's decision against seeking a fifth 2-year term those six candidates were competing in the Republican primary the race largely was between aot and former State Senate President Chuck Morse while on the Democratic side Craig had the most competition from Cindy warmington a member of the governor's executive Council New Hampshire has elected two female Governors both of whom are now in the US Senate Democrats jeene Shaheen and Maggie hwon but aot who was New Hampshire's first female attorney general said she is more interested in following in sununu's footsteps over the last 8 years under Governor sununu's leadership this state has been rocking it she told supporters in Manchester and this election is about making sure New Hampshire remains that way Craig served on the Manchester school board and board of alderman before being elected as the city's first female mayor in 2017 she said leading the state's largest city for three terms gives her the experience to be Governor though critics blamed her for its ongoing struggles with homelessness and crime in remarks to supporters Craig said she is prepared to tackle the state's housing crisis strengthen public schools and expand access to reproductive health care she also accused aot of lying about her record the last thing our state needs is a governor pitting people and communities against each other Craig said she is the most extreme threat to reproductive freedoms our state has ever seen and is too dangerous for New Hampshire but I know that with all of your hard work and support we will win in November and create a brighter future for our state after 5 years as attorney general aot served one term in the US Senate before narrowly losing her seat to Hassen in 2016 she focused much of her campaign on stoking anti- Massachusetts sentiment with her don't Mass it up slogan leaning Less on the traditional anti-tax rhetoric and more on crime and immigration in contrast to its first in the nation presidential primary New Hampshire is among the last states to hold state level primary elections leaving the winners just 8 weeks to woo voters before November 5th as in the governor's race there was no incumbent running in the second congressional district where US Representative Annie kuster is retiring after six terms the seat has not been open since 2010 former White House Aid Maggie goodlander won the Democratic primary for that seat defeating former executive counselor Colin van aern who previously ran for governor the Associated Press called the race for aot at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday night right after the polls closed aat won with 69% of the vote with former Republican state Senate President Chuck Morris receiving 27.9% on the Democratic side Craig won with 48.7% of the vote compared to New Hampshire executive councelor Cindy warmington with 41.4% the Associated Press called the race at 948 p.m. the race was significantly closer than anticipated as Craig had a steady lead over warmington in polls ahead of the primary New Hampshire is one of two Battleground States holding Governor races this year with the granite States oratorial contest expected to be competitive due to the state's purple history while voting for The Democratic presidential candidate for the last five elections it also elected cunu a cist to the governor's mansion four times the state's four-person Congressional Delegation is all Democrats but the state legislature is controlled by Republicans the Democratic race proved to be more nasty than the Republican primary with Craig and her allies attacking warmington for her past as a lobbyist for produc Pharma the company accused of pushing the addictive Oxycontin drug given that the opioid crisis is a substantial issue among Granite State voters it set warmington up for a narrow loss the governor's race is aot's chance for a political comeback after she lost her Senate reelection bid in 2016 by just over 1,000 votes Craig is likely to try and tie aat to former president Donald Trump though aot has worked to distance herself from Trump and painted as a strength in a state that hasn't voted oted for a Republican president in over 20 years the cook political report rates New Hampshire's gubernatorial race as a toss up the presidential race is rated likely Democratic the other gubernatorial Battleground state is North
