[Music] IB Nation Sports Talk Welcome to the show I was thinking it might just go solo today it's just kind of one of those days you know it's like do I really need a co-host today I don't know you know Jesse's all grousing you know oh I went to watch the the Cubs get swept you know and it's just it's awful I don't know what to do with myself and and I thought well maybe I could just hit Vince up and it's like ah Vince you know he's back at school I don't know what kind of time that he's got today you know that kind of thing so I don't know what's a guy to do but then it's like oh this guy's hanging out oh this guy's hanging out it's a three man it's a three-man swing is what it is we haven't had one of these in a while that's right the gang is all here Vince D Dario just Styers Sean Styers boys it's good to see it's like you said it's been a while I don't know the last time the three of us got together this is true this is a little precursor to our uh our pregame show right I mean that's coming right around the corner here yes Saturday pregame shows I'm gonna give you a pop quiz before we uh get into the nuts and bolts we're gonna talk to Notre Dame offensive line we're gonna hear from Jaden great house all kinds of good stuff Jesse was a much better student than I was I just want to put that out there don't look at the chat okay don't look at the chat don't Google when I ask this question okay I want to see which of you can give me the answer first there are only three active college football coaches who have won national championships can you name any of them Kirby Smart boom yep that's a good one uh Ryan day Ryan day has not won a national champ I thought he won one with Ohio State oh I already got nailed on that one uh a few weeks ago I was I got hammered uh because I think I said that he won a championship and I got hammered uh oh uh Clemson dabos Sweeney he's there you go around right one to one who can get the tiebreaker this is the toughest one this is the toughest one don't look at the chat I'm not I'm looking at the bookcase over here just trying to find inspiration um I'm sure somebody in the chat already has has played against him uh at least within the last couple years another Dame has played against his team he's not with the same team he won the National Championship with okay I know for a fact we talked about him in Rapid Fire within the last couple weeks I think I think Jesse and I talked about it oh good that makes me not look as bad appreciate that Mac Brown that's exactly what I was gonna say yeah it was funny because Vince Vince was the one that like the light bulb went on but then I heard Jesse's voice and I was like hold it who said that Mac Brown Jesse gets the tiebreaker well done well done I already used my brain a lot today so I am I am proud of myself for that one got the big brain on Jesse I already put the prerequisite out there much better student than I was in high school so much better all right so with that well done well done only three that's that's amazing I mean obviously when Nick sa retires you're G to lose a lot of national championship Tommy's like I was trying to help you I wasn't allowed to look at the chat I I didn't want to cheat honor System they kept the code that's right I like that I like the way you guys worked that out you you you did your best to think of it you literally came up with it at the same time it looked like but Jesse was able to blurt it out that's all right first well Vince is here because I I wanted him to to you know at least check in here at the start of the show he's welcome to stay as long as he wants I don't know what he's got planned but we got a lot going on in this show but offensive line yeah and he and I today was the last practice viewing that we got we got a five period practice viewing this morning it was going to be outside it was going to be inside it ended up being inside because it was raining in South Bend so that's right first team offense specifically first team offensive line looked a little bit different today at left tackle was freshman early and rolly Anthony knp left guard was Sam Pendleton who has been the number two Center but Pendleton now working at left guard and not either Pat cougan last year's starter or Roco Spindler who of course was the Right Guard starter for most of last season and battling for the job the rest of the line was was the same Ashton Craig at Center Billy schw at Right Guard ill Wagner at right tackle second team line Posh Baker at left tackle Spindler left guard cougan again a guard last year working as the number two Center something Vince and I saw in practice the other day suiv an abshure at Right Guard gerby Lambert freshman who got here in the summer the right tackle so I'll go ahead and [Music] throw this isn't too [Music] loud this is the uh the first team offense the takeoff the team takeoff period at the start of [Music] practice kind of see him out there running away from me but the guys that I mentioned 54 over there on the left side it's Anthony nap my video got a little bit off filter there for a [Music] second as think Vince leaning in Harden I know it's like you know iPhone from the sideline and all that kind of good stuff so we went from first team up now here is the line that same line doing some position drill stuff together in the end [Music] zone basically see him take a couple of snaps here and that is that so that's what it is and I mean obviously the big news now look I know that that other people are saying this is what the starters are now and were working with the first team both with the first team offense out there as well as those reps like when they went to position drills they didn't mix any of them up it was the those guys who we talked about were the first team and the other guys we talked about was the second team what exactly it means right now we don't know Vince do you want to kind of chime in I guess with with any thoughts on what you think it could mean with basically what are we now uh 16 days away from the season open well we are still solidly in training camp like fall Camp so they have not obviously started any preparation for A&M or anything of that nature this is still Camp right so that that's an important thing to understand because they're not going to get to Camp stuff until next week okay I was obviously not at practice this morning uh but I was at the last practice and apparently ly they kind of did the same type of things from last practice to this practice as far as who was with who and you know that kind of thing right well here's I was shocked when you know right around the time practice would have would have gotten out all I mean my social media all the tweets go up just like oh my God Anthony Nappa starting at left tackle and then Pendleton is starting at guard and you know all of these different things and it what shocked me about the whole thing Sean was that these aren't fans that are saying this these are this is the media who is saying these guys are the first team like with no analysis whatsoever like that is my problem now they ran at first team today they were taking first team snaps that doesn't mean they are 100% the first team now right we're going to talk to Marcus Freeman on Saturday we're not going to be able to watch practice on Saturday we're going to watch talk to Marcus Freeman on Saturday we're also supposed to be able to talk to the two coordinators which means Mike Den Brock so hopefully we get some more light shed on that but all we know as of now is these guys were taking first team and second team snaps together that doesn't mean this is the definitive first and second I'm just saying it for like clarification for sure here's what I think is going on personally look they're they're still working they're still repping cougan at Center because they want him to get as many Center snaps as possible before they get into A&M prep because I still think he's going to start couging at left guard because he's you know a big fan of experience and all of those things and I also still think that Tosh Baker is gonna start at left tackle now the in my opinion he had the two tackle and guard combin they were kind of working together right and whether they were with the first team or the second team I don't think matters because I think first of all cougan is the first team left guard and he was working with the second team Center or as the second teamer well and that's what's most odd to me is the fact that not only is Pat cougan not the first team guard he's the second team Center you know like throw that out of it but the fact that all of a sudden Sam Pendleton who was the second team Center is working with the first team starting as the left guard and not even roono Spindler yeah that that so in my opinion they're just working guys around like I said it's still camp this is not game prep this is still camp and so that's what people should have said like hey here's what happened today you know probably still working guys around you never know but it's nice to see these guys working with the first team you know that kind of analysis not this is the first team this is who's going to be running out there in College Station they're putting a true freshman at left tackle at College Station Joe Rudolph's like that was pretty much what I saw all day long today and it's like guys pump the brakes a little bit like I don't think that's actually well again we've seen inklings of some of these moves over the last couple of practices we just haven't seen like this as the you know like the the first and second team units come out together right like this so so Jesse I'll ask you is it more concerning or encouraging that you know this line the entire left side of the line is completely different now than even a week ago I think it's encouraging because I think something that's been echoed throughout training camp um regardless if it's defensive linebackers wide receivers they're not looking at guys as true one and twos they're looking at what group of players are going to give us the best chance and I think in order to determine that you have to work guys at different positions and see what you can piece together right it's like a starting five rotation for the Olympic basketball team like some guys might not get in but it's a matter of kind of how these guys work together at different spots and I think that's ultimately what this is going to come down to is they're just working guys at different spots to see what could be the overall best combination I don't think that they've ultimately decided yet either I think like like Max bullo was talking about with the linebackers there's there's not really ones and twos I think that that their mentality with this team is viewing you know we have a group of talented players how can we piece you know these players together whether it's playing you know nap at left tackle or you know whatever it might be um side note I thought it was really cool that they show the previous play on The Big Board while practice is going I've never seen that that is super really cool it's it's basically like a huddle play on replay instantly so as like reporters interesting that you picked up coaches like you can literally look up there and instantly see ultimately who messed up right oh that's why it's super helpful because you know you could be analyz you know looking at one side of the line or the other or or wide receiver can't see it all at once but cool to see it livetime and you get about you get about two to three runs of the play before the next play goes yeah and so yeah it's it's super helpful when they that was pretty sweet sorry I know that was just something I picked up on it's awesome bystander glad you to notice that Vince I mean this is something in the wake of the jagas saww injury that you basically wanted you wanted to see more than just TSH Baker kind of rubber stamped yeah out there so I mean we are still in the fall Camp portion of practice you know when exactly they decide that's over it'll be sometime next week whether it's the end of the week you know whether that goes all the way up until G you know Texas A&M gameweek but again we're 16 days away so are you good with with sort of this experimentation if that's what it is I I actually am very good with it I I have no problem moving some guys around seeing how they do with other guy you know how does Sam Pendleton move around at guard when he's next to Ashton Craig like I'm I'm cool with that I have no problem with them doing some experimentation giving guys an opportunity I what I am saying right now is I would be surprised if the starting five offensive line is what it is that we saw today I would I would be very surprised if that was the case Andrew came in hot with this he says he's been a major defender of Rudolph but is this a situation of someone putting his guys as the starters I don't get how Pendleton jumps to established players I don't think that's what this is exactly you know again I think it is maybe recognizing that at some point I you know cougan started getting some some Center reps and again that's something that we saw last week the last time the last I think the last couple times we were out there at least the last time if not the time before that we did start to see cougan taking some snaps um and then Pendleton I'm trying to remember was he playing guard last week or yes he was with the second team was with I mean I'm sorry basically Rocco was with the first team last time right and look I just think it is I'm trying to figure out what the right word is without sounding like I'm you know being mean to other outlets I just think it's it is a little careless in my opinion to just be saying that this is the starting five and you know Anthony Napp is beating out Tosh Baker and all I just I it's a little reckless in my opinion you can do what you want for clicks and I'm I'm not g to tell you how to report I just personally think that's a little premature because all you've seen are the first five periods of two practices you haven't talked to anybody that makes that decision you haven't talked to the offensive coordinator you haven't talked to the head coach I guarantee sources aren't saying that Anthony knp is stting at left tackle you know what I mean so you're GNA guarantee that I don't know well I I'm just saying I when it comes to sources I wouldn't guarantee anything well that's fair I just think it's a little click Bish right now and and very premature well yeah and I'm seeing I'm seeing people saying that you know some of these other outlets and reporters are reporting that nap is beating out Baker um you know again was that a a post-practice tweet and they're they're basically saying that or you know I mean yeah I didn't put that up there for a reason just because again I don't I don't want to like if it's an actual I don't know if it's an actual report like a tweet that came out after practice you know like what Vince is talking about where everyone was saying that you know nap is the first team tackle now like it right is there like an actual report that comes with sources behind it exactly that's what I'm saying like there's a difference between the two there's a difference because everyone in the media saw at the same time what was happening so anyone who you know walked out of the building and then tweeted here's what's you know here's here's what the first team offensive line now looks like there's a difference between that and any of those reporters going to a source and getting any you know off the Record type stuff and then you know putting out an actual report based on that look if it happens and these two guys are the starters then that means they beat out the other guys and so you play the best two guys I I'm fine with that just don't think in this particular situation that that's the current case this would be a much bigger deal If today was August 26 and it and it was game week thank you because that and that's when you actually going into game plan preparation that sort of stuff it's that's 11 days from now I still think that there is uh the ability to because like Vince said they are still in Camp this isn't game week this isn't you know like I said prep or anything like that they are still trying to figure out what guys can work at what positions and how they all kind of interact together and I will say this and I wish that I I had it was it's obviously been a very busy day between going to practice this morning we had post practice you know interviews that we were doing and you know that I'm I'm putting together all these cuts and I I completely forgot about the fact that I've got you know some Joe Rudolph stuff from about a week or so ago talking about Anthony nap and we got to talk to them about the lineman so unfortunately I don't have that to play but what I will say at that at that time Joe Rudolph was very high on Anthony NEP he was everything that he was saying about yes he was Anthony NEP and in fact I might be I can at least probably pull up a transcript here and might be able to give you an idea of some of the things he was saying and I agree with what Andy Milton fan is saying if it is nap and Pendleton it's a very athletic offensive line and I I will say it it did move that left side out of the line did move a little bit differently with those guys out there oh there's no doubt those guys are more athletic they're not as slow footed or you know heavy footed I should say there's no doubt about it I would just be surprised that both of those guys have leap like Pendleton for specifically he leaped over cougan and Roco two starting guards from last year he has now leapt ahead of both of those guys that would be the most shocking thing to to be very very shocking to me and you know and we'll see what Happ look we get a depth chart the week before like you know early in the week of game week it' be like that Monday or Tuesday we'll get a depth chart then you'll know you know I trust Brian and his sources like I'm sure he'll talk to people and you know figure all the whole situation out again I would just be surprised if this is the starting five and people just need to take a chill and just take a breath and relax and we'll see what happens you know let it play out so it' be fun if they had like a more pass Pro offensive line and a more you know like because you guys were saying how much faster that this line was moving a more kind of RPO speed type look depending on you know what they're trying to accomplish I know it's out on lamb but it's still kind of fun to think about at the same time sure like a pack because like it looked like in that video there was a lot of like you know a lot of quick RPO type speed like looks and Riley lard was either handing the ball off or getting the ball out quick right so again I don't think that's at all what it is but just something that kind of came my mind all right boys I got to roll you guys have a wonderful rest of your show okay I got to hit the road I talk to you guys later of course yep so here's the the last quote that we got on Anthony knp from Joe Rudolph at the media session that we had a week week and a half ago something like that so here's um they were wrapping it up I asked is nap the number two at both tackle spots quote he's been playing left he's played right in the spring felt like he could do either one if you needed him to if you needed a left Sully could play left he could play left nap could play right Tai Chan got reps there the second group today with the right side keep pushing gerby and Prescott and see where they're at you know some different opportunities uh end quote from Joe Rudolph that's not kind of the uh the best quote that he had there but he also did say at that time that Tosh Baker was the answer at left tackle again Tosh Baker running with the uh with the second team unit today um but again it's it's not a guarantee that it's going to be nap we're going to get to talk to both Marcus Freeman at M and Mike Den Brock as long as the schedule stays what it's supposed to be we're not going to get to watch more practice before the season starts today was it today was the last last five period practice um that we got but um we're we're supposed to be able to talk to Marcus Freeman and Mike Den Brock on Saturday so we should have something more concrete than you know just what we saw today there's a chance that he'll say well you know we've been we've been moving guys around and seeing who are the best fits who plays best next to each other and all that different kind of stuff there's a chance that he says yeah that's that's the guy that's the guy like Vince Jesse I have a hard time thinking that both nap and Pendleton are the guys plural on that left side together because Pendleton just came flat out of nowhere basically yeah I I would have to agree and it just doesn't in in a person who thinks kind of very logistically it doesn't make sense for Pendleton to sort of just make that leap out of nowhere and I think Tosh Baker provides somewhat the most experience when you need experience in a very you know important hostile environment to start your season and maybe that's maybe that's part of it too you know maybe they have a line that they feel more comfortable with going into game one but that can evolve by the time game 12 comes around just because of you know game experience because I I I I doubt you're starting a true freshman at the Blindside tackle Texas A&M I just really do well the other side of that is they started a true freshman Blake Fischer at Florida State three years ago you know so again it came down to you didn't have a lot of other options that made sense and Blake fiser was really good now coming out of the spr because nap enrolled early in the spring he has done a lot of good things I saw someone saying Joshua saying nap projects as a guard I don't know I mean they like him and and again like when you look at the way he moves versus the way Tosh Baker moves even there's a big difference now did we get to see him actually you know really block anyone when they're doing you know like the team run out and all that kind of stuff at the start you know we we got to see him do some stuff we saw him move but we didn't get really get to see any of that and you know like I'm I'm seeing well who's sourced and you know who's got the better sources and all this stuff you know I I I I think based on everything that I've seen and heard this is more about you know tweets that came out because of what we all got to see at the end of practice I will say though something I noticed when when watching that video no one looks out of place all those linemen look big thick you know what I mean no one looks like a true freshman out there someone who's maybe at a disadvantage because of size like I was that's the kind of the other thing I was looking for when you were putting that up because I knew who was working where like nap at left tackle didn't look undersized by any means to me so I think that's just as important yeah they've got nap listed at 291 on the roster now again the roster that we got at the start of fall camp and that we still have you know we there's been no updates since the spring so they they haven't updated any of the Heights and weights on The rosters to this point you know whether or not there will be I don't know so yeah he's his official listed weight right now is 291 which is about nine pounds shy of what aill Wagner is and we know aill Wagner you know had to work to get to that 300 pound so you're talking about nine pounds essentially left versus right it's going to be really really interesting I I will say this as well it was about a year ago it was it was more than a week into Camp when all of the sudden Pat cougan was out there left guard and you know after I mean kind of same with Roo more Billy St yeah Rocco kind of jumped onto the scene late as well so I mean cougan kugan was the surprise though you know like like we had kind of been expecting rqo would probably get one of those positions but kugan was more of the surprise and and it was a week week and a half you know in this range indic Camp when all of a sudden it was cougan out there so you know again we can sit here and and speculate all we want we're going to get to talk to the head coach we're going to get to talk to the offensive coordinator Saturday so at that point we expect we'll have something more definitive how definitive I don't know odds are they're probably going to say it's an ongoing process and you know all those different kind of things but we'll have more of an answer than what we have right now and I you I I will say you know that IB is pretty well sourced as well and we haven't we haven't got any of that kind of confirmation on like nap is the guy kind of thing I mean there was obviously a lot of buzz you know when you walk in and you see nap and Pendleton out there on the left side so that was interesting I thought it was interesting do you want to look at a little bit of the quarterbacks I know you were you were you're were upset that you didn't get to see quarterbacks throwing you want to look at a little bit yes from practice this morning so little bit of the QBs doing a couple of different drills if you start out this is the fourman right here and they're just you know they're all throwing passes at the same time to various receivers and they're kind of coming coming at you right here it doesn't look like anyone's really got camp arm at this point you know like dead arm or anything like that they're going to flip it here in just a minute you'll get a little bit there you go a little bit different uh view there as they come at us I obviously flipped over to the sideline as well what do you think of what you see from Riley Leonard there Jess trying to lock in on everyone he's the second one I think there he is right there 13 you can definitely see his number a little bit better there little check down and that's pretty much it so yeah it's hard to take a ton away um from those but it's nice to see that's like my favorite drill because for quarterbacks because it gets everyone involved right you got all all quarterbacks throwing and and everyone is not just running a route on air they are you know catching the ball essentially but what I like about Riley Leonard is his ability to drive the ball he's got good zip on the ball it seems like tight spiral you know what I mean and he's just a big tall guy and you know what's actually funny is when I when I saw him I think he actually looks smaller in his pads compared to real life like I really yeah I think he doesn't I think he doesn't look quite as big with the pads on compared to the pads off I thought he'd be a little bit little bit bulkier but and I'm not saying that's a good or a bad thing I just I just thought he'd be a little bit kind of thicker right because he is uh a more mobile quarterback and obviously you want to kind of you know keep some strength on you as well but you know it is good to see him throwing the ball and he he throws the ball with relative ease as well salty wants to know if these are bootleg videos nope they were all you know we're we're we're out there on the sideline and you know obviously if you're in the indoor and you're shooting video they were all above board and you know they we we do there is a certain amount of Total video that we're allowed to use and so we stayed under the limit so we're totally legal we're totally legal there were no interviews or anything like that so we don't have to worry about any trademark material any that kind of stuff so we also got to talk to Jaden greous after practice today and he had some pretty interesting thoughts on a few different things I thought for starters you remember Jesse was it earlier this week or was it last week we talked about how Irish Nickelback Jordan Clark compared great house to Raiders wide receiver Devonte Adams remember that just a couple dayso right yes so I asked the great one as our friend salty likes to say Jaden grous about that comparison to Devonte Adams no I didn't I didn't hear that but you're laughing he's my favorite receiver so so I'll take that for sure why is he your favorite receiver like um I mean just like a combination of size and speed um and then just like his route running his releases all those kinds of things I definitely try to Implement that into my game like I watch Devonte Adams film whenever I can Justin Jefferson film whenever I can so uh like I just try to add their film into my game however I can and uh you know I just really uh try to model my game after them you know I think we kind of hit it when we were talking about the comparison the other day the Devonte Adams one salty says I mean size speed great house has got it I mean if that's his favorite guy it's probably you know at least he likes the comparison yeah what are the odds that you get compared to your favorite wide receiver from a defensive back that is just entering the program I think that's pretty cool and it's it there must be you know some truth to it as well if if he can if you can get someone to say that kind of unprovoked and that's a guy that you you know you you openly kind of want to model your game around so a little bit uh a little bit more important stuff we talked to great house about some details on him some details about the offense Mike Den Brock's offense as well like the tempo that Mike demock is gonna run this offense at this season definitely like in the beginning of camp it was it was definitely uh an adjustment you know just getting getting in shape getting used to the tempo all those kinds of things but but uh me personally I love it just like with where we're at right now um I I love the tempo of the offense um being being able to get set be able to line up get a play Fast um I think it's good for us I think it's good for the offense um just being able to go out there and play Fast how important do you think it is bringing Tempo to this offense Jess I think Tempo is a double-edged sword uh looks great when it's going well because you you have the defense on its heels you kind of get them gassed and kind of guessing you know what's going on when things are going well but when you go three and out and you're off the field in under a minute like that's kind of the flip side of things right and so you have to kind of find that balance of okay when is it time to put the the the foot on the pedal uh and really get into some Tempo and when is it smart to kind of maybe slow some things down and give the defense you know some some sort of break because the last thing a defense want is defense wants is getting you know a critical stop and then the offense is going Tempo Tempo Tempo and they go three and out and now the defense is back on the field in like two minutes right like that's where you're like all right guys like we just literally got a sip of water and now we're already had it back out there so but for this offense specifically I believe you know with with it has to be of importance because it's going to help Ry Leonard's game overall you he is a Tempo quarterback and for uh A system that wants to use its quarterback's legs the mobility of its quarterback and we've seen that through various Clips at practice of Riley Leonard using his legs you have to be able to operate at that kind of RPO type tempo right like it is a very quick fast pace and again that's why it has so much potency um is because it gets the defense tired and it gets them on their heels of when you're constantly moving around and moving fast it just doesn't allow the defense to settle in and get their calls in as quickly as well and the other thing kind of piggybacking on on what you're saying is okay you're going to Texas A&M you're going to College Station rumor has that it's going to be hot down there I mean I think we've we've heard that a time or two right so like all those factors that you're talking about and you combine the heat in there with it I mean you want to be able to get put the defense on its heels and you want to get your quarterback into that Rhythm like you're talking about but as you said the flip side going three and out and then all of a sudden you know you you are playing in a you know like a a hotter environment higher climate all that kind of thing especially in this first game I think that that could be a huge I mean it it could end up being a factor for either side I mean it's great for noted aame if they're able to go Tempo in Texas A&M is unable to catch up I think that that's a huge Advantage for Notre Dame yeah and and also with the defensive line like Texas a& in you want to you know kind of use their speed and and overall Talent against them because you can get those guys gassed um and another thing you can do in tempos you can get a defense stuck in a look that they might not want to and and that doesn't allow them to sub off the field right and so not only can you be tired and guys can't get subs in or breathers but also they might get stuck in a defense that is you know just not good for what Notre Dame is doing so I think that's kind of that's the job of Mike denrock is playing the chess with the tempo of I want to get you stuck in a certain look and just kind of keep pounding that look over and over until there's maybe an incomplete pass um or you know some sort of again maybe timeout because sexusm wants to get out of you know whatever set they're in I think that's why it's important that you you have to be able to run the ball out of Tempo Tempo to me isn't all about you know just passing the ball you have to be able to run the ball in tempo as well yeah chap Brody says I'm always a bigger fan of tempo but keeping the ball on the ground the problem is you have to actually have a coherent wide receivers for the opponent to respect and I and I think that that is a a huge Advantage for Notre Dame because they have coherent wide receivers I I think that they are well I think that's why you wanton the experience of Bo Collins and Chris the transfer portal is they provide some of that experience that you need um like Chief Brody is talking about and I that had to be you know at the top of Marcus Freeman's kind of wish list um at the time for that reason and it's I'm are you excited to see it though yeah I guess that was that's you asked what I was just about to get ready to say is this is this is much better than scan offense you know get into the line looking over to the sidelines talk about slow deliberate and the other thing that we haven't even talked about is the fact that there will be headsets you know the headset communication that the quarterbacks will have and I think that that will Aid in some of this as well and so the scan again it's a great it's a great kind of change of pace and I think it's going to modernize Notre Dame's offense compared to what we've seen over the last few years um and again when you go scan like that it allows a defense to catch its breath to be like okay we got this we can get set you know we can also get reset to having that break to me is a is a confidence Builder as a defensive player because when you're reeling and on your heels because a team is just dominating you in Tempo it's just a bad feeling because you almost feel like you can't do anything right but when you when you're slowing it down you're getting to the scan I just think that one provides more confidence and it allows you know the defense to not get as tired as well something interesting I keep using the word interesting but I I I like this next cut that great house was talking about because he said there have been plenty of times during this training camp where this Tempo in the Irish offense has been able to keep Al Golden's Blitz happy defense off balance balance have a listen for sure um and like a lot of our motions Help U motions help with that a lot too um just being in different spots all our shifts um all our hard counts those kinds of stuffs um definitely have the the defense on the on their heels kind of guessing a little bit um and that's just a tribute to the offense and and all the work coach Den Brock has put in with the with the play calls and things like that um he's been doing a really good job I definitely think we have a lot more motion um this year um a lot more moving Parts um not just with the wide receivers but the tight ends running backs all those kinds of things um so yeah there's definitely going to be a lot of stuff that defenses aren't ready for what was most interesting about this as I you know as he said you know we' we've cut the defense off guard he said it's a big difference from last year like this offense compared to last year's offense and that ability to kind you know to keep that defense off balance it's it's been a lot different he said during training camp this year and so like when you look at at Al golden in the ability to bring pressure from all these different angles and if Mike Den Brock and Riley Leonard are able to kind of uh you know meld their brains together and you know be able to counter some of that one of the best defenses I think that they're going to see at any point that they see in practice every day I think that's that's huge and you know again like you talk about what we're going to see from this offense this year compared to last year's offense it's it's going to be night and day different I think yeah I mean motion there's a lot of layers to what he was just talking about motion motion can kill a lot of things defensively and because a lot of times you are blitzing as a defense to kind of bring numbers or overload kind of a side right but if a defense sorry if an offense begins to motion you have to kill some of those blitzes like I like when we were when I was you know playing we would have blitzes called and and if if a guy motions to Across the formation you almost have to kill your Blitz and kind of get back into your base so that's you know that's some of the stuff that he's talking about because essentially if if a let's just say they're in a 2 by two set right two wide receivers on each side and you motion across to get to 3 by one but you were going to Blitz from the side that the three by one is coming to you're not going to Blitz an outside linebacker a corner or a safety where now you have you know from two wide receivers to three wide receivers because that guy now has to cover that third wide receiver that's come into motion to that side and so that's sort of the stuff that that great house is talking about is you can negate or kind of counter these blitzes even though you don't know they're coming by motioning around like that and so again it's a lot on a defense uh in terms of eye movement right you get the eyes movement or sorry moving you have to maybe kill a blitz reset the strength get into a new defense and you have to do all this kind of in a split second um in the def in the offense it's just kind of ready to go now so you know I've always been a big fan of motion I I I think you know that and last season I I tracked some of that stuff because we thought that there was a lack of motion and we thought Notre Dame's offense does actually perform better when they have moving parts around I don't think that's a notame offense thing specific in general it's across any offense because what I was talking about you have to reset your eyes are moving okay now the ball is snapped you love your dude Mike McDaniel and you know like you like that is something that he utilizes quite a bit I mean it's the easiest way to identify what coverage a defense is in pre- snap and it just allows a quarterback to be more comfortable um what's going on and honestly too it helps out wide receivers because you have sometimes you have a combination route are you running a route against men are you going to sit down in the zone and if you're able to identify that pre- snap it just makes everyone's job a little bit easier so what's the counterargument to this like be because you know whether it was Jared Parker last year or even before that with Tommy Reese you know Reese might have motioned a little bit more but neither one of them were real high on the motion meter right like what's like why why do you think that is why do you think that they were resist to doing that more than what they were doing if you had to make your you know Grand hypothesis I guess like an educated guess at it it's a good question so there's really no argument against it is what you're saying because the thing because like the basic thing is it does exactly what you're talking about it lets the quarterback without doing anything it lets the quarter back identify they playing manto man or are they playing Zone unless they're disguising it you know like that's but that's hard to do right like if you because of all the you know again like the stuff that you went back and outlined I think that the only potential and they again this is just kind of reaching for something off the top of my head is only you can get into offensively when you're motioning around like that is you you kind of you start working against you know some somewhat of the play clock and so your internal clock is a little bit more rushed and if if a guy isn't hitting his landmark and you have to snap the ball early it can throw off a play right because when someone goes in motion they still have to hit the landmark of maybe it's the hash or maybe it's the numbers or maybe you know it's getting to the end of the line of scrimmage I think that's the only thing that you can potentially run into is maybe doing too much and then again it rushes up every inter everyone's internal clock because you feel like you're a tick behind or maybe a tick ahead right and so that's the only thing it can kind of mess up maybe the synchronization of the offense if you're not hitting your Landmark specifically that's that's really all I can think of but I mean again pre- snap motion to me is like it it almost should be incorporated every play and and look at you know McDaniels Reed Andy Reid like I feel like a lot of the top offenses have a lot of motion majority of the time I feel like what this is leading to is something that your audience was asking about on yesterday's show when you wen't here will there be more whiteboard in the near future we people wanted regular whiteboard Jesse drawing up plays on the Whiteboard and they wanted the Whiteboard betting segment that was here last season did they really yes they did I think those are great things to get into when the season starts because there are uh you know like it's no longer about this is what I think is going to happen or there is hard proof of of you know plays uh design and that sort of stuff so I think that's like a regular kind of season segment if if you if you know what I mean I hear you I hear you I'm just say I'm all for it I wanted to throw that wanted to throw that out there salty by the way as I expected very happy about this show the finest IB happy hour show in recent memory if not all time he says I wonder why I wonder what could be jazzing him up so much so Jaden grous also had some thoughts on his own versatility he's playing you know being able to play both the slot or outside as well yeah I feel a lot more comfortable uh just playing all over the field um you know understanding what the offense is trying to do understanding what my job is and uh what the purpose of the concepts that we're trying to run um it definitely helps me uh when I line up outside too because I still know uh what we're trying to do and and what the goal is for the play um so yeah definitely uh just have a a really good understanding of the offense right now um compared to last year and just uh uh my job what we're trying to do and that just helps me be able to play fast and line up wherever I'm needed I think a versatile Jaden grous is one of the keys to this offense and really you can throw phason in there as well because they're both primary slot guys but both of them have played outside I think great house is going to play all over the place and just to be able to get you've got two different body sizes obviously but you've got a lot of speed with both of those guys and I think the more that those two can be on the field together with whoever they're out there on the field with at the same time that's just going to be that much better for Notre Dame's offense yeah I mean this is gonna this this comparison is going to probably you know make ruffle some feathers of a lot of people but that's fine um Jayden GRE house playing the slot and the outside is like the one and only great CD lamb look at how he produces you know in the Cowboys offense his ability to be you know the slot receiver the outside receiver it come it becomes a a matchup nightmare they can put Jaden GRE house where they want to get the matchup that they want and like he said it it not only helps the offense but it helps him because he has a full understanding of why the play is designed and when you have a full understanding of that you can play f faster and you can play more free and when we're talking about the wide receiver position all we want is a wide receiver that that plays fast and free but again that's like CD lamb was around like 10 receptions a game it felt like every game and so like that's the sort of production that I'm going to be expecting at of Jaden Grey house if he's going to be moving around out of the slot the outside outside receiver is it sounds like that's the guy that they want to schematically you know get open and and not only that but it allows the defense to not lock into Tendencies when you're moving guys around like that because they know okay this guy's in the slot he's lined up here we can maybe anticipate you know this sort of Route almost so it makes the defensive job a lot harder but it it to me it shows that he's a supreme talent because you're not you're not just moving around anyone and doing you know doing that sort of stuff so again I I think that bodess well for for the jayen great house stock going into this season and you know and and like Chris Mitchell brings obviously a lot of speed with him now again we've we've only been out there in Snippets to see the offense but like right now what I'm going back and forth on with Chris Mitchell it's like is this gonna guy gonna be Chris Brown is gonna is he gonna be a go route guy is he gonna be will Fuller you know it's probably somewhere in between but I would slide closer you know to to Chris Brown right now you know just a guy who can you know kind of get out there in the seam and and go and take I mean he's going to take a safety with him right yeah exactly exactly so that frees up more people underneath right a lot of yak yards because again you you've taken the defensive backs out of the picture but with his speed you have to respect it and also he's getting to that point faster right so that means the the defensive back has to vacate their Zone that much faster as well right and again that's why I think the guys like great house and fison are going to be so so critical for this team because I think that these two are along with Bo Collins are going to be the ones who end up with more volume I think in terms of the receptions this year unfortunately we didn't get to talk to Bo Collins today but we got to talk to both Faison and great house and Jaden Thomas was was out there from the wide receiver room as well so finally final thought here great house and fison speaking of those two they're the top two punt return options right now and it hasn't been you know completely settled I think that I would slide my chips toward fison probably if you know if I had to well especially if they've got you know great house playing exactly that much on offense exactly they're but you know they' both done a good job from what we've been able to see haven't seen a ton but they both get to field punts from Australian punter James Reno when they're back there this you know during fall Camp so Rend Mitchell is the best receiver in the video game okay he's the fastest guy yeah that's right it's like throw the ball up and let the fast guy go get it there's still a difference between the video game and the real game but um so I'll let you hear what each of these guys great house and fison have to say about Fielding punts from James rendle here's great house first it's interesting it's kind of got like a diagonal spiral to it uh like usually it'll go end over end or it'll be like a like full spiral like a pass but like his like kind of like they're like diagonal it's it it's weird he's got some weird spin on it but um you know just like being a a a returner for me I know that other returners are going to have a hard time Fielding the ball so um that's definitely good for our offense so that's great house on James randle's punts here's Jordan fa on he could do it differ I mean he has the rugby kicks where he's rolling out and kicking it and then he could just be straight up kicking it at you in spiraling so it makes it way harder to read the punt as coming off and then that affects how the ball comes down and where it comes down at so it makes it difficult for the P returner and that's going to be huge for us this season so what impact do you think that that has potentially Jess when you hear those punt returners talk about the way that ball comes down to him uh I think that means a lot of Peters a lot of Peter calls as the punt returner Warrior meaning that they are not going to want to be feeling those hot kind of diagonal you know ground balls because that's a potential for a muff pun uh you know a turnover um those sort of things so I think you know that sort of stuff is going to be on film at some point and I I guarantee some special teams coaches be like we don't even want you to touch the ball right if if you can't catch it in the air we don't want you to try to field that ball because of how it's like you say it's not end over in where it's just a nice kind of right you know where it's hopping up and bouncing straight in the air and you can kind of just get underneath it you have to feel it like it's a ground ball and you you know you got to get your chest over and kind of knock it down type situation so if you can get that ball to kind of be like he's saying tunneling diagonally like that again I think you're going to see a lot more Peter calls out of Punt returners where they just don't even want to deal with it right and so not only does it help that but it helps a lot of that that kick and roll or that extra yardage that that punds are able to get as well and so if these guys are vacating you know he might be able to add an extra what like 10 15 20 yards at the end of the punt if he can get that ball to really start tunneling you know diagonally like they were talking about I also think that there there's a really good chance because like these guys are talking about sort of the difficulty and the uniqueness of the way that ball comes down and we got to see that on the first day of camp when we saw some of those Rendell punts and that's really the only time that we've got to see them they're they're more than two weeks into Camp right now and they're talking about how unique and how difficult it is you know when when that ball is coming down on them imagine being a punt returner on these other teams you don't get to experience that like you can watch it on film but it's still different when it comes down I think we're going to see potentially a lot of muffs Andor you know fumbles by punt returners this season trying to Feld those balls yeah in addition to the kind of stuff that you were talking about agreed so again like it's like a you know everyone's excited about Thor and I think there's a lot of reason to be excited about Thor because you the other thing they talked about is just how consistent this guy is and his ability you know to to pin you deep with his punt like he's very accurate with his accurate and consistent with his punts you know in terms of like inside the 15 inside the 10 yard line all that different kind of stuff he's not just a big leg guy he's very technical very accurate so I think it's just going to bring a completely different uh element to to Notre DS football team this season Jesse are you ready for raing fire let's do this fill in the blank it's blank that Notre Dame has announced the September 28th game against Louisville as their Irish wear green game to me it's sweet sweet revenge because I think there's a bitter taste on their mouth from Louisville last year that was a big game obviously underperformed and it had you know a lot of consequential impacts on the season if you ask me um and so I think that this shows that it's a game that they're taking seriously I know it's like they take every game seriously but I think they want everyone to you know be they want this to be a big game they they want to be able to a avenge or Revenge their loss from last season against Louisville and so the more that you can add to it it adds you know more fan engagement it adds more hype to the game and so I think I think that there is it's more to just wearing green I think that they really want to like I said kind of avenge their lost to Louisville last season they have a chip on their shoulder and they're just adding more fuel to the fire by making it the green game I do think it's interesting that the green game the Louisville game is going to be the game that is not on actual NBC it's gonna only stream on peacock so there's that but you know I I saw some people asking you know like does this mean that they're wearing green in all likelihood it does I think that that's what you know that's how they've done it the last couple of years and I I like the way they've done it this is what I said a few years ago that they should do and that's what they've been doing the last couple times is pick a game this is GNA be the green game and the team don't make it a surprise don't not everyone's speculating oh are they gonna come out in the green uniform just let it be known exactly let let the expectations be known let everyone know in advance because it's September the weather's still warmer fans can wear their green shirts you can sell plenty of green t-shirts and all that different kind of stuff and everybody has fun with the greenness interesting Chief Brody man Chief Brody is like the fun guy at the party he's tired of videos to be honest he wants more playoff appearances and fewer videos I mean you know I I I guess Brody is is one of these guys that like thinks that Marcus Freeman is never supposed to sleep and you know he's only supposed to be out there you know like coaching and crunching film 247 you're not supposed to do anything you know people like recruits love the green too it's a promotional aspect there's a lot more to it than remember most of the work on these videos is done by the social media Fighting Irish media department they just tell Marcus strean where to be and what to say yeah record a couple lines that's pretty much it you know and then they do all the work afterwards so you know you're right about the recruits it's like like we live in a social media world for good or for bad you got to put it out there on social media people like Jersey combinations yeah yeah they like Jersey combinations and they like following this stuff on social media and personally I'd rather see some of this stuff than than a lot of other garbage that you see on social media so I'm good with it all in good fun I'm all in good fun there Chief Bry we know Irish quarterback Benjamin Morrison says he's 100% healthy we got to talk to him today as well we asked when he got to 100% and somehow I thought that I had this in there it went away there it goes tell you I mean I this thing over time I mean it it's it's it's a constant battle gain your confidence back but I think like I got to put my trust in God and I think I'm I've been I've been healthy for a while now healthy for a while now scal of one to 10 Jess how important is it that Benjamin Morris is Morrison is now 100% I mean it's a 10 out of 10 we're talking about an All-American Corner um and his this wouldn't be as big of a deal had they not opened the season with Texas A&M on the road you need your best experienced quarterback you know in the secondary along with Xavier watts and I you know I'm not saying that I wouldn't trust Christian Gray or Jayden Micky I just have more trust in benj Benjamin Morrison he's played in Big Time games and honestly when you think about it he shows up the most in Big Time games who had interceptions against um you know against uh Clemson I want to say potentially Ohio state but I might be lying on that one but it's just he he steps up in in the big moments and so you know when the stage gets brighter Benjamin Morrison just shines even more and I think having him you know it's going to be also you know a confident boost for everyone else on the field knowing that his side of the field is going to be shut down so I to me it's a 10 out of 10 he had an interception against USC last USC that's what it was one that you were thinking of and obviously he had you know the big game two years that's still the number one quarterback in the draft so yeah yeah yeah that's that's exactly right him and Xavier Watts both went wild in that game it's a 10 out of 10 to me I saw I think Brody said hey you know look my biggest concern with the defense I know a lot of people concerned about the linebackers and you know the Youth of the linebackers and inexperience and all that stuff my biggest concern the whole time has been what the depth of the secondary specifically the corners and if you don't have your All-American cornerback Benjamin Morrison then that sets you back even farther in terms of depth especially when you're going on the road to open the season against a good opponent in a hostile environment you need it now like Hobs and Moore we've seen some good stuff from them in some of these practice videos that Notre D has put out on social media by the way I'm perfectly fine with those videos and I think you should be too uh Brody and everybody else but um I think that it it it's a 10 out of 10 you get Ben Benjamin Morrison you potentially got Christian Gray on the other side I think you're feeling more than good you're feeling really good about this defense if you got him at full health so big time Big Time he did say that you know like they you know they they do still kind of you know pull him back a little bit you know not all the time full boore contact and all that kind of stuff which is understandable because he is still just like four months removed from shoulder surgery but you know he'll be he'll uh he'll be a full go when it comes to Texas A&M from everything that he said today so CBS sports's Danny canel was on the r Ryan rosillo podcast this week and he had a thought or two about Notre Dame and their chances for a championship this season here's what Danny canel said Kye Leonard coming off an injury going to a new system uh where they just lost their left tackle after losing Jo Al so like joal goes to the Chargers so now they're bumping in another guy and they have to go to Tex A&M week one got Florida State essentially it's a two maybe three game schedule so like I think that's what people are projecting because they should be able to like 10 and two looks very doable if not almost guaranteed but I think they have zero chance of winning the like winning the national championship they're going to be in Riley Leonard is and I love him he's a really good kid he had three passing touchdowns last year like in the way he's talked about year before I think he had 20 but like he is not exactly lit it up he still needs a lot of development as a passer in a new system okay so there's Danny canel on the Ryan rosillo podcast do you buy or sell any of that you know there there were some different points one he thinks 10 and two uh they're they're not a serious National Championship Contender and obviously he picked apart Riley Leonard and said that you know he has some serious concerns about Leonard and he mentioned the offensive line there as well so in or out buy or sell what do you think about what canel's saying um I think 10 and two is the the floor of this team um if if they go 10 and two this season I believe that those are that that would be you know a failed season ultimately so um I I don't think that I think if they go 10 and two they are not serious Championship contenders but I that's not where I see them I see them at 11- one 12-0 team and I think what Danny canel forget forgets to mention is that you know offense is one side of the ball they still have a very good defense and a defense that's going to limit a lot of team so that helps out your offense in terms of you know how much production that they need and so in comparison to last season they were just a couple plays away right and you can say that this offense is going to be better than what last year's offense was going to be with Riley Leonard with Mike denck I mean yeah there there are definitely questions at the offensive line but when you lose two starters to the to the NFL that's a question for any team so okay that's a fair criticism at the end of the day the Riley Leonard stuff I'm not buying it because he's not he he fails to mention that he was injured last year of course he only had three pass EXA yeah exactly so how can you evaluate Riley Leonard Riley Leonard's season last year cannot be evaluated he was injured he was injured the three touchdowns that he mention the three touchdowns passes that he mentioned came before the injury um he had four touchdown runs before the injury as well so even though he only threw three touchdown passes he's a dual threat quarterback who had seven total touchdowns through the first five games including a season opening win over the ninth ranked team in the country and on top of that the three games that they had in between Clemson and Notre Dame were blowout wins you know so you've got other guys in there as well and I think I can't remember if I just mentioned he was completing better than 75% of his passes prior to the injury so like prior to the injury he's completing better than 75% post injury his completion percentage went down he obviously was not able to play in a full game after the injury I mean that's that's the biggest Factor right there is the guy still had seven total touchdowns in the five games he was healthy before he was hurt and the team with the exception you know the team was undefeated going into the Notre Dame game and they lost a close game to the 11th ranked team of the country Notre Dame in that game so where did I I I I think I just ran into some connection issues so where did I kind of cut out at uh I thought that you had just kind of run your you were talking a little bit about Riley Leonard and that's where I picked up as I was talking about Riley Leonard and everything that he did you know again because of the the injury is the biggest thing with Riley Leonard now the other stuff I mean we started off this show talking about the offensive line and what's going to happen there that's that's a big concern it's I I think it became it became a bigger concern based on what we saw at practice today and the fact that you had a completely different left side of your offensive line out there that's legit but like you said 10 and two would be a disappointing season like that would be the minimal expectation for this Seas you are is 10 and I don't I think most people their minimal expectation is much above that and I think echoing what you said you can't you can't evaluate Riley Leonard last season if you want to let's look at the opening game against Clemson he won that game against Clemson he found a way to win I think what Danny canel also fails to mention is how almost 100 yards in that game right you know that's a big part of Leonard's game obviously well to and second I think you have to if you're Denny canel you it's a disservice to not mention you know Mike Dem Brock pairing with Ry Leonard as well because of what he was able to do with jayen Daniels and how Riley Leonard fits kind of that similar profile of jayen Daniels and so again I think it's a little bit lazy because I think it's easy to kind of jump on and just kind of look at things from a more macro level and say oh they lost some offensive lineman oh Riley Leonard still has some question marks okay Danny canel but how about going into last season Riley Leonard was on a lot of a lot of NFL Scouts Big Board to go in the first round those things don't just come out of nowhere like his arm is going to develop and now that you have an offensive coordinator that's legit like Mike denrock I think it's fair to say that his passing is going to get better and I think an even you know a big brain type of comment would be to say if Riley Leonard can develop as a passer under Mike denrock then this offense could have the ability to go all the way I think that's where all of us as fans are saying is Riley Leonard if they can develop the passing game better than what they did last season with Sam Hartman they will overcome some of those shortcomings and big moments and win the games that they were supposed to win last year and be on the cusp of a 12-0 and 11-1 season a lot of great points and I'm not going to disagree with any of them you know again like the the offensive line that's a legitimate thing but the Riley Leonard stuff I I don't I don't necessarily agree with that so canel also has some doubts about Notre Dame's receiving core go back to Jordan Faison today here's what he said about the depth of the Notre Dame receivers I mean we have we have everything we got the big guys the fast guys the quick guys I mean we can hit you from every angle um we could attack Zone attack man and I think it's just it's a testimony to what we've developed over the years and you know to the guys pre from last year that have kind of started that and then until now carrying on those same things and yeah we just got guys that that I could just ball so here's my question you know again canel doubting Notre Dame's receivers obviously a noted Dame receiver is going to have good things to say about his group my question is are we the Royal Wii right here are we are we overvaluing Notre Ames wide receivers or are they being undervalued nationally which is which is more true I guess I think it's I think it's a combination of both but the issue that you run into is they don't have a proven wide receiver and so at the national level they can't point to someone and say this guy is definitely going to be a stud and produce and and us as fans we see we see it more day in and day out and I think we see the potential of this wide receiver core of okay we we see jayen great house can can play in the slot and can play out at the outside W wide receiver position we see that Jordan fison can also get on the field and okay how about you know a wide receiver set that pairs fison great house and Chris Mitchell right and so I really liked his comment there because he said we have an answer for everything we have fast guys we have big guys we have Zone beaters we have man beaters um but until everything comes together and we see them play a game and we see how Mike Den Brock moves the pieces around on the offense I think it's fair to say that we are you know we are overvaluing and the the you know the national people are undervaluing because again what proof do they have Notre Dame doesn't have you know the hard stats of this guy's a thousand yard receiver and a 60 reception type guy and a 10 touchdown type guy there's just not production there yet but when we see okay this is Mike Den's offense we know that this is what he wants to do okay we see that there's a really talented group of wide receivers that's fast that's strong that's physical now they just need to go out there and do it and I think that's the important part to me I think I agree with what you're saying I think it's probably a little bit of both I think it's more you know like as we get but but we have what we saw last year to base our opin opion on obviously nationally that's what most people are going on so obviously you know like they're they're not taking as deep a look and they're and like in canel's case the fact that you never even heard him bring up Mike Den Brock and what he was talking about that like when he was picking apart Riley Leonard like the addition of Mike denck here and the fact that Notre Dame is going to have a completely different offense than what they had before and it's going to play more to to to Leonard's skills but also now the fact that like you can see it you can see that there is the depth that you were just talking about and the fact that they've got these different body types to do all these different things but there's speed there as well and what we were what were we talking about with Chris Mitchell a little bit ago the fact that he can take the top off the defense take a safety with him and now that leaves the rest of the field that Leonard can potentially pick apart with these different kind of receivers that he have so I think it's more that they are being nationally undervalued but you know we probably do overvalue them a little bit but again it goes back to the body of work that we saw last year compared to what this group looks like this year it's just so different that I I I think that really anyone nationally isn't going to be able to truly appreciate it until they're till they get their eyes on it and we've at least exactly we've at least you know been able to see some glimpses of it in the practices that we've been to too I think the first few games is really going to change the narrative nationally because like the most important thing is this is just GNA be a completely different looking offense I think everyone has an idea of you know what not Dame has looked like the last five or six years um at the offense and wide receiver position like they've been a more dominant you know tight end heavy you know kind of big sets type stuff but this like we talked about this offense is going to be motioning around they're going to find ways to get a lot of different wide receivers on the field depending on what they're trying to accomplish so yeah I mean as a fan I I think it it the the the most important thing is like just have fun with how different this offense is g to look and I think it's going to change a lot of people's perspectives so we're going to finish up with some we in we out questions the final we in we out questions that we weren't able to get to the other day because we were on a time crunch are you in out on closing the current college football record books and letting them stand for the rest of history and starting new record books moving forward due to college football playoff expansion in or out on that I'm gonna say out I think that the record books are always kind of continuing like the the NFL didn't end theirs when Cooper cup I think broke the record a few seasons ago but he had you know at least an extra game uh compared to you know some of these other teams so if you really want to look at it you can break down the numbers you know more kind of on a on a like per game basis right I think there's ways to always analyze the numbers but I don't know I I think that the game is always evolving and so there there would there would have to be kind of always like 20y year periods if that's the way you're going to look at because are we going to say that you know record books shouldn't count for running backs back in the day because there were more run heavy offenses compared to now where there's more spread out kind of passing offenses you know I just don't want to kind of get into that you know constant cycle of finding ways to kind of justify records and stuff like that I just think it's one continuous linear point you just kind of keep going essentially yeah exactly you the the difference in college sports and professional sports is professional sports keeps a regular season record and then you know then anything that comes in the postseason is factored completely separately those stats don't count but you know like even you've seen expansion obviously in all the the professional sports you've seen both expansion of the teams which can you know water down the talent pool to an extent and that helps or hurts different guys uh but at the same time you've also seen an expansion in the number of games that they play just like the NFL has expanded to 17 games and you know all you it you know like you saw all of these records obviously shattered that for not shattered but you saw a lot of these single season records fall right away in that first season because you added a game and they're not going to put any asterisks next to him it's just it's part of the way it is and there's already some imbalance anyway because of the fact that these conferences like teams like Alabama that are in the SEC Championship Game consistently Ohio state they're they're all getting an extra game and those all count for their regular seasons as well so I agree with what you're saying I I don't think you alter the record book or put an aster or anything like that you just games get added and you know because not everyone's going to make it to the playoffs either so yeah it's gonna look a you know and like we're already in an era where all these we're coming out players right now like these sixthe guys like Jack Kaiser and Howard cross they're the last of the guys who got the extra covid year of Eligibility this is the final season like if you were a fresh during that Co season this is the final year for that extra season of Co eligibility so like even for that a lot of Records have been altered and they're you know they're not going back and putting asteris on any of that either in or route on Notre Dame hosting a college football playoff game this season um I think that's a two that's a double question and to me it's like are they gonna go undefeated um I think they're neither an undefeated or an 11-1 team this season so I don't think 11 and one gets them that five seed I think that you know someone else will get the benefit of the doubt especially because nerd Dame's not in the conference but but you don't have to be a five seed to host you just have to be five six seven eight so if you're one of those four seeds you you would get to host so with a record of 12-0 or at 11- one I I do think that gets you a top you know eight seed in the country so I'm gonna say we in on this one because I do think that's what their Al ultimately the record is going to be I just don't see them losing two games this season now that could all change depending after the first game but that's I mean a little more nervous about this offensive line now that I that I was even a couple of days ago but yeah that could have that could obviously our our whole opinion on that could change pretty quickly and we might all be drinking a few cocktails but I'm in on them hosting a game because I I like you I think they're either zero loss or one loss and that's going to get them most likely at the very worst in eight spot I would think if they are a one loss Notre Dame team I would think that the worst that they're going to do is be the eight seed and they would get to host in that case true Point salty they haven't consistently been recently Ohio State he called me out on the the Big 10 championship game because they couldn't beat Michigan of course but they've played in they've played in a lot of uh Big 10 Championship Games anyway inter out on Alabama missing the playoffs this year I'm G to say out I I do believe that they have a pretty favorable schedule for you know a first year head coach and well Alabama is still Alabama there's a ton of Talent on that roster they're still recruiting at a high level I mean their season to me boils down to three games Georgia um LSU and Oklahoma I think they'll they'll they'll they'll beat out Oklahoma um I do think that they'll beat LSU and I I think they're again an 11- one and two team and I think that an 11-1 10-2 Alabama and the SEC um is definitely in the playoffs so I'm going to say I'm gonna say out on Alabama missing the Playoffs I think I'm I'm gonna go in on a missing the Playoffs actually and Vince and I were trying to do a prediction yesterday that kind of blew up on you know who's GNA make the playoff this year I had Alabama out I've you know I'm like I think kin dor is a good coach but I do think that that because of Nick Sabin kind of holding that together last year I I think that Alabama you know like the the the uh the whole was better than the sum of the parts I'm not saying it was a horrible team because it's obviously they're still recruiting but like I'm not completely sold that kayin dbor can get out of Jaylen milro what what Savin was able to get out of him last year and I think that there are enough questions with you know what they have this year and you mentioned some of the big games that they have that they're always going to have to play in the SEC so I think Alabama I think Alabama misses I think that they are at least two losses if if not maybe even three losses this season in out on Nebraska having more wins than LSU this season I just have to say out I know that LSU is going to probably play a tougher schedule um I like what I'm seeing out of Nebraska and Rule I just don't think that you can get that thing flipped around kind of that quickly in year one I think Brian Kelly's a better Coach I think they have more Talent um it's just a matter of if LSU can just be competent on defense this season if they can just be halfway competent I think they're a double digit win team as well I'm out as well Nebraska to me is like the new Texas you know everyone wants to say oh is Nebraska back now this year they were a five- seven team last year that's only one win better than they were the year before that and I I know it's a bunch of close losses but you can go back it's like four years in a row now they've had all these close losses regardless of who the coach is you know so I'm just out on them until they actually prove they deserve for someone to think that they are actually back so I'm going to I'm going to stick with with the LSU I think that they're probably like a nine and three team at worst this season and I don't see Nebraska getting close to that number just based on the track record that we have on them right now so I've got to be out on that I think that's going to do it for tonight Jess we breezed through this one we did smoked that show a lot of good stuff again we're supposed toh talk to Marcus Freeman Mike denck El golden on Saturday so maybe we have you know some some um answers on what this situation is going on with the Notre Dame
