danny deturo and riley batt have been named our flag bearers for tonight's tokyo paralympics opening ceremony after five paralympic games in wheelchair tennis dany is competing at a second games in table tennis while rugby wheelchair legend riley is going for his third straight gold medal can't wait and riley batt joins us now live from tokyo riley good morning to you congratulations what an honor in all that you've achieved so far how special is it to be handed this flag for tonight [Music] oh mate you seriously can't put words to this the feeling we have you know to to be able to lead the flag out on behalf of australia you know our mob our community our friends our family you know the whole of australia alongside danny de toro uh i don't think honor and pride are strong enough words i'll have to look in the uh the theosaurus i think and to be there alongside danny is pretty special what a legend she is she is she uh she just inspires people she's got such a positive attitude and and that's why she's a co-captain of this australian paralympic team and now flag bearer just a sense of aura around her and the way she picks people up in in our mob is incredible all right skipper so you've been handed the paralympic team co-captaincy um by aussie wheelchair legend kurt fernley how's the team going how they all coming together and what's the atmosphere like they're in tokyo yeah it's a you know awesome feeling to be handed the code captaincy from the great man kurt fernley and we'll definitely try to you know give a different flavor from what kurt's done so i'm looking forward to uh leading the team through these uh you know these positive games but uh wheelchair rugby team-wise uh we we're looking good uh obviously lockdowns in australia is uh giving giving us a bit of grief but it's all good we've had the experience before and we had a practice game yesterday against canada and we did some positive things so we're looking forward to starting the competition tomorrow against denmark cannot wait hey tell us about the plan for tonight how does it all unfold oh danny and i have to do a few rehearsals today i think um it's uh it's gonna be different to to uh wheelchairs carrying the flag out i haven't seen it done before so we'll have to figure that out and how we're gonna hold the fly because we definitely don't want to drop it of course so uh yeah we'll figure it out um and we will just we'll just get out there and and hold that flag with pride and we will know you know unfortunately we won't have the whole paralytic team marching behind us tonight but we know they'll be there in spirit and we'll be doing it on behalf of them you bet and the whole nation will be there in spirit as well hey riley all the best mate good luck for the competition congratulations on a big night tonight we can't wait for the game to get started what a ripper block he's fantastic isn't he yeah all right you can watch all the action on seven and seven plus the opening ceremony kicks off 9 15 tonight hey this seriously is must see tv 9 15 tonight you and the family sit down and enjoy something fantastic and it is online and free right across the seven network seven plus wherever you are whack it on it's gonna be great
