e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e good evening ladies and gentlemen we are live here tonight from the Royal Alexander hall for this evening's leaders debate for the upcoming election on the 10th of September tonight's debate will feature the leader of the labor party sir Sam gaio and the leader of the conservative and unionist party sir FIS J Jedi we would like to mention that reform UK was invited to attend this evening however they did not produce a candidate for this evening's event and are therefore represented represented by an empty Podium how this evening will work is each candidate will be allowed two minutes each for an opening statement then we will proceed to questions asked by myself and then each candidate at the end will be allowed two minutes for closing statements with that being said we will begin with sir Su gaio for his opening statement good evening everyone and thank you for attending this um election debate this lovely Sunday afternoon um I'd like to start off with also thanking my uh honorable opponents next to me um I'm sure we'll have a lovely debate tonight and um I look forward to it all this election is an election for the future of this group um September is usually a bit of a downer for um communities however ever it always ticks up as you get closer and closer to Christmas and um this is a really important time not for growth in a community but for um uh continuation of a community and that is why it's really important that we elect the correct people this uh time around and I believe that obviously the labor party is the uh best people for the job um the we've got a lot of policies coming out in our Manifesto which will be arriving tomorrow um and that will obviously be um our uh peace to the country however tonight I'll be um debating on those policies um because I do have a list of them um thank you uh thank you sir Theo uh sir FIS your opening statement right thank you I would like to thank everyone in the audience today for arriving to today's election debate in this election you have got three options you've got the choice of the labor party who still haven't released their Manifesto and have had a disaster month in office in government you've got a choice of Reform UK who were unable to produce a candidate for today's election debate and are yet to release the manifesto and are expected to release the manifesto a day after the election results on the other hand you've got the conservative party the conservative party who have release their Manifesto who have got a clear plan of action for this country a clear sense of Duty for this country I would like to thank my honorable my honorable opponent for his W for his kind words and I would like to reiterate the exact same sentiment this election debate will certainly be interesting thank you thank you both uh we will now move directly into questioning and I think this is this first question is something that both of your parties have attempted to implement over the previous few parliaments so we will start there the issue of parliamentary committees has been something both parties have been very vocal out so and both of you have made promises to see them implemented at least in the house of Comm for this upcoming Parliament so I would like to ask each of you both we'll start with sir ftin what exactly will you and your leadership team within the House of Commons be doing to implement said committees right thank you for that question because as you said before these both of our parties have been incredibly vocal on this issue committees are an essential part of the of our Parliament committees can hold the government to account can hold departments to account can hold everything to account within within the within both houses we will push to introduce committees particularly regarding standards within the House of Commons because as we as as I'm sure some of us will have seen over the past few parliaments standards have declined in the House of Commons um it's quite tragic to be perfectly honest that what was once in honorable house has turned into a bit of a joke amongst the community um committees we will help we will push to introduce committees by first introducing backbenches to our backbenches who are actively engaging with the house who were actively engaging in debates who were actively engaging in questioning and who were active altogether because in this last Parliament we saw the labor back benches who sat there lounging about on the benches doing nothing yelling here here like parrots every time that and anytime that anyone from the labor party spoke we need we need this to change thank you CIO your thoughts on the question SE here hello can you hear me yes we can hear you you're resp question started yapping to myself um here at lady we believe that um uh the um um uh committees are um a quintessential part of um Parliament and we they should obviously be upheld and supported we will push to introduce um joint committees between the House of Lords and House of Commons simply because um Lords are far more able to join a committee than the commons simply because the way that uh Roblox is you've always got more uh front benches and back benches and it's just easier uh to get big committees if you've got Junk committees um we will also push to uh put in a uh very good speaker um maybe Sergeant James um if he manages to get seat somewhere um however we believe that a uh good speaker a active speaker and a speaker that knows the way of the house is the best way to work best person to work with to uh create committees I'm also hiring more clerk I do believe um the uh moderator here is our only Commons Clerk or the only active one at least so if we got a few more Clarks it would be a uh lot easier and a lot better to uh get committees up and running and help Parliament out in that regard I'd also like to agree with um my right honorable friend to my right um that uh standards in the house do need to improve um obviously I was the Lord last uh last time I was watching the common sessions and it was abysmal um I can't lie and we we do need to improve the order in the house and that will be my number one duty if I get elected or even if I don't thank you thank thank you well U we're just going to transition into our next question uh the ministry of defense is also another um excuse me another ad ministerial Department that has caused a lot of debate within the House of Commons not just in the House of Commons but across the entire nation um we've seen the appointment previously of a new chief of the defense staff who has very mixed public opinion uh so I was just wanted to ask when we'll start with CIO this time what is your plans for under a labor government to help the ministry of Defense continue its upward Trend thank you Mr moderator um I am obviously currently and have been for the last twoes weeks um the secretary state of Defense now I've had the honor to work with um the chief defense staff and other defense officials um unlike the uh uh hble friend beside me um I do not believe the BF is dead and um it's a uh and it is doing okay considering I inherited a very dead BF two weeks ago um but um we will work with the baf and continue to work with the BF to improve the BF and the mod um so we will introduce the defense feedback program so um Armed Forces Personnel can uh make their opinions heard um in the BF High command and um we can push to improve it through their initiatives we will also um push to uh have international um trainings with other nations to so we can gain experience in our BF we can push our influence and power without going to war in the BF and um it's all around a good thing to um do joint trainings and scrims with other friendly Nations and we'll also propose the uh UK defense ability Bill to Parliament to establish a framework for safeguarding the future of the Armed Forces and um on top of this we will also introduce a statutary defense um leadership uh committee which will um hire a CDs when um if if one's ever needed um as well as other key personnel who are usually appointed by the king so um people like the CGS and the CNS and everyone on the defense Council um this would be staed by a lot of people so there would be you know the defense secretary CDs um potentially former cdss and people from within the Armed Forces um so everyone gets a say on who should be the top dog and we don't get any um randos as CDs or in other positions this should take the um potential nepotism and favoritism and bias out of BF um leadership changes and be better for the and make a sustainable future for the BF thank you thank you uh so F your thoughts on the ministry of Defense thank you um at the current rate the actual Ministry of Defense isn't as transparent as it should be I believe a pledge of the labor government last term in their Manifesto was to be far more transparent and to introduce weekly reports I'm fairly certain and I might be mistaken introduce weekly reports into each government Department yet we have not seen that with any Department including the ministry of Defense where it would be most vital to receive weekly government reports as arguably it's one of the most important government depart Ministries on the first first day of a conservative government we would conduct a professional government report investigating the activity of the British armed forces and ensuring that it is up to the necessary standards that the British Armed Forces should be at the at the current rate that the British Arm Forces are going it seems to be going on the up hopefully it continues on this up but regardless of whether or not we get into government post election defense will be a priority of the conservative party and we will ensure that it is held to the highest standards that it should be thank you thank you again um transitioning now into our next question uh we're going to switch it up from defense to the foreign and the Commonwealth Department um general question to both of you is uh I know members of both sides of both parties have been very vocal against the current United Nations that we are in for various reasons so my question to you both is what are your immediate plans for the foreign office and does that involve joining a new United Nations Community we'll start with U sir oh no sorry yes sir fistin right I'm glad you asked that question because as a former foreign secretary I've always been vocal about our current un but at at the current rate that roadblock United Nations are going oun is the best un we have at the moment and so we should stick to the UN that we are currently in we need if we are to stay in this un we need to ensure that it is that it is that it remains entirely professional because currently because previously we had a criminal organization I believe meant to be Somali pirate PES who were the Republic of pirates based off of the Somali coast and for some reason they decided to lob wooden grenades smoke grenades at Oman and station their ships in the English Channel it the UN at the at that time was incredibly unrealistic and right now I am fairly certain it is still at a similar level to what it was previously so a conservative government would push and push and push to ensure that this un becomes a more professional one because right now more than ever this group needs an active professional un that can help its growth and to ensure that we have foreign allies thank you thank you sir Fellini um sir Theo same question to you la part's for the foreign office the foreign office is obviously a key part of um the Labor's manifest the Labor's plans for the next election um we currently our uh foreign secretary has been well now he's prime minister but um he was very um good very active last time and we will be keeping him on um uh but in regards to the UN we will be staying in the UN um there's simply no better un um out there well the only un would be UNC and we're obviously not getting in and kicking buuk out um so o I'd say is probably the second best un around that I've seen um it's not it has had previous um previous uh you know previous uh reality issues I guess um they're not very realistic at times however um for the most part but they're pretty okay um I personally don't agree with fake Nations but um sometimes they can be pretty fun um of course in the foreign office itself though we'll be uh continuing on our current trajectory which is um close relations with the USA and other key allies such as um Spain and France um and we will uh as a member of the security Council we'll be um exerting our influence on the un as much as possible um to help it grow and flourish and get better cuz a better un is better for the United Kingdom so we should be um really pushing into the UN and making ourselves more um uh a a bigger part of the UN and a bigger um just a bigger nation bigger influence and better for the country um we will be um also making a uh foreign interference bill which will uh stop um any foreign interference funny enough um so that would be um members of s members of the government can't be members of other nations and that would just prevents foreign interference and keep us to ourselves um cuz just like how this is OU o USA's un we want to make it just as much our un and we will do that under a labor government thank you sopia um we do have time for few more short questions but I will say they're both going to be regarding Scottish Devolution so my first question to you both regarding Scotland is uh there have been recent calls from some Lords about the Scottish referendum repeal act uh being proposed essentially doing the Devolution referendum we had a few months ago and I was just wondering what each party's stances were on such a bill I we'll start with the labor party well originally when deuan was first proposed um it was about two months ago wasn't it um I was against it um I am on the whole against Devolution in um R naations and that's sort of what I stick by however um Scotland in this UK has grown on me and it's grown on me a lot um mainly because it doesn't interfere with us um we're not suffering because of it and um I see no reason to get rid of it um it's uh it's good I I'm not a big part of it um however I see no reason to devolve um it's not causing us any problems to uh keep it round and I think it would just cause more Strife if anything lot of people would leave the group so ftin same question to you right that's a good question as always um Scotland as a whole in this UK would do nothing but benefit us so the Lords who intend to repeal the referendum as my honorable friend to my left said it would just create more it would just create more of a fuss and a faff about regard Scotland right now Scotland should not be the primary concern of the Lord undoing the Devolution of Scotland because right now A Scotland Act was being passed through the previous Parliament which it will have to be introduced again but a Scotland Act is being introduced which will hopefully bring back the activity will bring activity to Scotland and will help it grow further to ensure that that to ensure that project Britannia and the Scotland that devolve from us work close together and to ensure that both groups benefit from each other thank you right thank you and our our final question before we get to your closing statements is again uh relating with Scotland with since the the Devolution referendum was passed two months ago we haven't seen seen a Scotland Devolution Act passed yet I know one was previously introduced in the previous Parliament so my thought my question to both of you is what will your parties be doing um to get that Devolution Act passed if you win this election or will you be working together to get one pass or we'll start with sir festini right the Scotland Devolution act yes I I hope that I can work with my honorable friend on this on getting this bill through Parliament because this bill is a top priority I believe or I or I believe yes right now because it should have passed in the previous Parliament however it was unable to Simply due to the fact that we had the problem of an early general election a snap election right now this group needs this Scotland act and and so hopefully cooperation on both sides will be achievable to ensure that this bill can get through Parliament and to ensure that we can get the Scotland up and running properly thank you steo your response yeah I'm more than happy to work with um my right honorable friend to the left uh to get this act through um as I've stated um Scotland's not really my biggest priority and it shouldn't be really on the Forefront of um this election um but I I would work with the um conservatives to get this act through and then uh just to follow up on that previous question as you both said you would work together uh would you um excuse me would you go with the act or the proposed act that was previously introduced or would there be specific am amendments your your parties would like to see we'll start with the labor party I'm more than happy with the current act um I don't believe it needs any uh reform or editing um and I'm I'm more than happy to go ahead with it so re in its current state is perfectly fine I don't see a need for it to for it to be amended or changed whatsoever all right thank you um that is all our time we do have for questions so we will now quickly come to your closing statements we'll start with the conservative party and so fian thank you once again I reiterate in this election you've got three options the Reform Party and the labor party who are yet to release their Manifesto and one party who won't release their Manifesto until after the election results on the other hand you've got the conservative party who have already released their man Manifesto of with a clear plan and bold action to secure our future um right now what this party needs is not another term of the labor of a labor government what this party needs is change desperately so and change will only come under a fresh new conservative government thank you s s your closing statement thank you Mr moderator um as I stated earlier this election is about the future of Britain um he the uh honorable friend to my right likes to um Yap about I don't have a manifest out yet but I was only elected three days ago um I and I've been very busy however the manifesto will be out tomorrow I encourage you all to go read it and compare the parties um you know Point by point policy by policy and see who fits you but also don't just look at um don't just look at the manifestos look at the cabinets because um we've got a stat cabin we've got people like Dean Maron and Mo who are in key positions within our cabinet who will lead who have been tested and will lead this country to Greatness um meanwhile the uh right horable friend to my left to my right sorry um he um his cabinet well it's not um it doesn't bring me much it doesn't impress me I can't lie there's a few good people there's Callum there's Will's okay as well but um there's other people in it who's just a bit yeah um what about the chancellor what about the chancellor I kept and he he and on the subject of change as well um I have kicked out all the people who were a bit dodgy bit dodgy as in the labor party last uh last term we have a fresh new cabinet who is good and we we have changed the labor party we're now for the people we're now for you will listen to you and we will be your party if we win this election or not thank you Mr moderator right unfortunately that is all the time we have however I do believe that there will be a group management sanctioned um post debate stage in the project PNA Discord server if members of the audience wish to go join there um however I would like to thank you both for attending tonight I would like to thank our audience for attending tonight I don't know if the the king's up there he said he was coming guess he's not he's not in his box but anyways this has been the leadership debate on CNN thank you so much and have a good night e e
