SEC Football Reaction: Ole Miss Scores Wild Win Against Kentucky

Chris Lee and Blake Lovell of Southeastern 14 presented by Stakes like we just finished watching ole Miss's defeat of Kentucky this game got a lot of hype all week and just in terms of drama competitive nature all that did not disappoint no I didn't um yeah a lot of Wilds I mean I put in the title it's a Wild win for Ole Miss just in terms of how the game played out so a lot of a lot of potential game changing plays in that game um you know it just so many and I think especially if you're looking at it from Kentucky side um you know Ole Miss made some big plays down the stretch there defensively to certainly wrap up the win but if you if you're Kentucky and you're looking back at this game you are looking at a lot of different uh plays in this game and probably thinking boy um what if and yeah I mean it's whether it's the last play you know in terms of um offensively the fumble whether it's you know the the targeting um you know that discussion was had whether it's the kickoff where you trip over your own guy and if he doesn't trip he probably scores a touchdown then how does that change the way the rest of the game plays out like there were we always play one if right but there were so many of those felt like for Kentucky in the second half especially where it's just like man what a what a difference but again I'm not that's not taking anything away from Ole Miss they made some big plays um on both sides really how many big plays that the Judkins make you know just on oh yeah they're good yeah I mean we're talking like third down those kind of plays that just can really change a game that that aren't as sexy but they just they move the chains and um and then again their defense towards the end there so boy there's a lot to unpack here did they they didn't review the targeting did they or what looked like a possible Target I hate to say that it was definitively because I think Levis may have lowered his head a little bit I would need to see this a few more times so don't like don't don't hate if I got it wrong I I need to see that play a couple more times before I know how I feel but I know this I'm watching with my eight-year-old and he says right then and there he said that's a penalty and and I didn't see it as much live I I saw it live I went to the kitchen came back they had it from the back side it looked more like a penalty but that was that was probably the key play of the game that was with what about three minutes left three and a half perhaps and somewhere in there yeah I mean it it was a blur and then of course they had to Fumble at the end too and I mean man so much stuff here turnovers and special teams are things we don't probably talk about enough I did know Kentucky was minus two in turnovers Ole Miss was plus one coming in that played a factor and for Kentucky the other thing you mentioned Barry and brown who is by the way from our area we are in the Nashville area we went to Pearl cone High School I believe that was that first of all he had two fantastic returns you talked about one where he tripped on his own had another one where they got the ball to the 11 set up a score but that was a special teams giveth special teams take away for Kentucky because they missed what a field goal and had an extra point blocked and there was a lot of stuff that happened on special teams that had a big impact on this game today yeah no for sure I mean there were a lot of different instances of that like we said I mean it was just I mean here's what it comes down to right if it's you're going on the road against you know your two unbeaten teams you're going on the road in a top 15 game you just you can't you know you can't make the mistakes that I think Kentucky made and over time they're just kind of kind of you know compile themselves when you look back like we said where you just you just made a lot of just a lot of things that certainly one little thing here there goes differently and you know but you just you can't do that on the road in the SEC period especially not in a game like this where you're coming in against the like we talked about an Ole Miss team that the schedule you know everybody talks about the schedule and all that and we certainly discussed it quite a bit but whatever game they played at this point now they win another one so um yeah it's yeah I mean it is it's one that here in Kentucky you're going back on and play the what if game but girl Miss you're gonna look at your defense and some of the players you made offensively be like that yeah like we're in good shape moving forward so let's let's talk about ole Miss's defense we said and my concern for Kentucky winning this game was the running attack Kentucky averaged three 2.9 yards of carry today with Rodriguez back he was 16 for 72 for 3.8 in the score and frankly was more effective in the screen game and I wonder if Kentucky is going to call more those in the future because that I think that's where he's got the best chance to break a play even though he's not been a pass catcher but Ole Miss makes two huge hits that Force those turnovers you talked about Judkins that kid was probably the best runner on the field today uh Jackson Dart there were times I thought he left a little bit to be desired but when it mattered he made some big plays and some nice throws um you know ole Miss's defense was a was sort of a an entity that we didn't know how to quantify what Ole Miss had because of the schedule coming in Tulsa was sort of a bit of a litmus test but Tulsa lost its quarterback what Midway through the second quarter or some point there so that became a different ball game Rebels defense left maybe a little bit to be desired but Kentucky had what 322 yards 19 points and Ole Miss got the job done on that side yeah I remember we uh I don't remember was it the whiz Wednesday nights [Music] um I think it was a Wednesday night show we said what's the over under we set the the over under for Chris Rodriguez I think I said let's put it at 74. just put it at 74. he rushed for 72 today um I think we I don't remember what I took I think I may have took the under actually I think you took the over um I took the over on Rodriguez now the over under on the game oh yeah that was one of my big things of the week um I actually I had I had Ole Miss to win Kentucky to cover in the under so I probably won't hit three like that again for a while but um but yeah I mean I think offensive line was a big deal for Kentucky today too and it sort of manifested in in past Pro too and I know that that last play Ole Miss had they had a backup right tackle in after their their starter cramped up too I feel like I'm making excuses for Kentucky and well hold on a second apparently I'm the one making excuses okay I I appreciate the comments Trey um no I'm I think if you go back uh just pointing out the facts but yes we're gonna replace me with Chris and we're gonna point out that Chris is the one making um excuses for Kentucky right on this day so there you go well no I mean oh oh Ole Miss Ole Miss gets all the credit for this one um you know which was a big deal you got to give Kentucky you got to give Ole Miss credit for yes like we said I mean you know there's just a lot of those things that Ole Miss did really well in this game and like we said it's Kentucky had their opportunities but um you know Ole Miss was the one that capitalized on on just you know some of those situations they found themselves in them able to to find a way to win the game um you know yes you know we can we'll look back on both sides of this game but like I said if you're you're Kentucky you're for sure beating yourselves up um with some of those plays but um yeah I still think you're Ole Miss you're not looking back at that and you know kind of feeling like they didn't do anything right it was just Kentucky losing the game that wasn't the case at all uh it was it was Ole Miss making a lot of big plays and you know when you get off to a good start like that too we always talk about that in these SEC games you know we talk about some of these others that are coming up today so important um you know in the SEC we just that that big start for Ole Miss I think that gives you that early confidence um got off to a great start I think you kind of knew that Kentucky was gonna withstand sort of that what was it was it 19-6 at one point um I think so something like that um but like you even at that point like I'm thinking you know Kentucky is probably going to make a play here and then they made I think they had the touchdown the interception near the end of the half was big that that sort of kept the game from getting out of hand right and Kentucky scores right before the half um things like a minute and a half left or something to make it 1912 and then you know that's which you still kind of thought at that point okay this is probably a game that's going down to the wire um so yeah I mean no doubt man it's now it's kind of if you're looking at at Ole Miss um we look ahead Chris we talked about the schedule like we start looking ahead with Ole Miss and they got Vanderbilt next week they got Auburn the next week um oh look now but it's funny because I remember you go back to our schedule preview we did with Ole Miss we said this was the game you Circle right this game against Kentucky this looked like the toughest game on their schedule until late October when they have to go to LSU so now here they are they've won every game they played they're 5-0 now got to go to Vanderbilt should be 6-0 I don't care what Auburn does against LSU today they're going to be a better team yeah Ole Miss going to be favored should win that game at home Ole Miss should be 7-0 heading into Baton Rouge on October the 22nd and it's just which would be tremendous and that'll be that's the week that uh a lot of teams are off so that may be the the game we Circle in fact I'm looking at the schedule well um yeah there will be that's a huge game um you know again that's a not to give them two straight wins here coming up but um that was huge and then I mean look on the flip side of this too you know we talk about Kentucky and I mean this was again that's why this one has to be so frustrating right because you're looking at this just in the grand scheme of like your SEC schedule you know next week they play South Carolina at home they're going to be favoring that one uh they got Mississippi State the following week Kentucky's probably still favoring that one uh you know my guess because both those games are in Lexington you know and then the rest of the way we we talked about it like it's their schedule actually sets up not bad right like I think that's one thing we talked about in their schedule to start the season this was a big test they they passed their test against Florida several weeks ago on the road they've still got to go to Tennessee but really Chris the rest of the way they have two Road games right they're at Tennessee they're at Missouri everything else you know they get George at home they get you know Mississippi State at home so it's gonna be kind of fascinating to see how they regroup here moving forward because their schedule is not the worst out there for sure so um you have a boy what a what a huge sort of emotional swing towards the end of that game and that's where you talk about kind of coming out of this on both sides um man what a what a setup that is for kind of both I guess coming out of it so but before I talk a little more about Ole Miss will Levis has taken a lot of hits in the chat will have us took a lot of hits in the game will Evis is not their problem it's their offensive line that was something we did talk about coming into the um season well and it showed up more in past protection or as much today I think as it did and other things I mean the safety was a big play um Ole Miss kind of dialed it up right when it needed to several times today and the guy that probably the player of the game I don't know if it's when Sean Judkins but that kid was really good we've not talked about him a lot oh yeah which is not intentional but um yeah I was gonna say like I mean there's there's no doubt about it we said this a couple weeks ago this is one of the best rushing attacks in the country period so um and they get just the amount of Playmakers like just in that rushing attack like take out just the yardage portion like all these guys can make big plays and that's going to give Ole Miss a chance against anybody just because you do I mean what Judkins is longest play today was I think rushing wise with 48. um so you know just those those big plays and I think that's something you really look at it and that's you know by the way too aside from the what was it was it the light play from Brown Ole Miss like they limited those just huge plays you know they didn't give up those 40-something plus yard plays I think I'm looking here and people will undoubtedly correct me if I'm wrong here but aside from you know the 51-yard um catch from Brown you know Kentucky doesn't have a play over 23 yards you know offensively so again that's what we talk about like with those huge plays like those game-changing offensive plays um Ole Miss did not give up a ton of those it just kind of was Kentucky trying to to work its way down the field uh sort of methodically uh and yeah just didn't give up a lot of those 25 plus yards or any of those really outside of just one so I think this game really was one on the line of scrimmage today Blake I don't disagree I mean the the run that Judkins had for the score they blocked the heck out of that play by the way just real quickly on a side note I know we got some Microsoft fans probably in here they're probably watching the game but first play I mean Alabama just throws that thing down the field and passing catch for about I don't know what 40 yards on the first play of the game so oh boy that's what our concern was yeah so that's uh that's got to get better I think I picked Arkansas to cover the 17 in Stakes but I was really nervous about that I think I said on our Best Bets I would not touch them that was that was one of my Best Bets my my Best Bets I'm trying to think I did at least get the Kentucky when I look everybody knows if you're in here uh yeah I did pick Kentucky to win this game um but I did say Kentucky plus seven was one of my Best Bets so they did cover that but Arkansas plus 17 was another and I think the Georgia minus 28 was another one yeah I think we all agreed on Georgia minus 28 that my mine this week was the unders on three games and that was one of although I'll tell you what if I had to do that at halftime I would have backed out of it by the way Carson's leaving some comments and look Carson I I understand your frustration with a little less like I'm not gonna like we said yes a lot of that you know you can put some of that blame on on the offensive line but but sure I mean there are certainly some things you can second guess I don't think there's any doubt about it I don't you know I think just because he's you know someone that's what projected as a first round pick Maybe 1-1 does not go it doesn't mean he's you know you can't just not criticize him there are certainly some things like I said you can criticize in that game and the handling you think about the what was it the um Stoops was getting on him at the end about not letting the slot receiver get set and if he just takes one more second to do that right you throw a touchdown that's it um you know and then again that that may be the game we may be talking about this completely differently uh by the way Arkansas just intercepts Bryce young so there you go that's good that's what we said you said it Chris Arkansas had to win the turnover battle well they're winning it so far three minutes into the game we'll see if that lasts but I'm In The End Zone yeah so there you go um but there you go so Kentucky has not put up a lot of big offensive numbers this year now I I think there if they can get a downfield passing game with those two freshmen and Robinson they got potential there my question is can they protect you know and I think it's I don't think that question got any got resolved today no so I I completely understand the frustration if you're a Kentucky fan and you're looking at this from that standpoint they were there are a lot of missed opportunities without question but you know there are also some things just you know you can talk about the stuff that didn't go their way in terms of maybe penalties or whatever but um I don't know there were a lot of a lot of things Kentucky would like to have back in terms of uh okay sorry sorry they missed the defensive hold in this uh on the pick there for Alabama I was too busy looking at cars I did uh Carson's talking smack as a ball fan that's fine we we respect the smack talk as well so um that's fine you can talk as much smack as you want keep it clean that's all we ask um what happened on this one I think I think they might have missed a hold on Arkansas defensive hold yeah well referees what can you do Chris yeah referees were uh have not had a good good day that was that was no doubt a hold so um Gavin says it I can go back and find the comment I mean I don't know I didn't think they were great in that first game but um do we ever really say that they're perfect let's be honest everyone that's a horrible job do we have a really after the game so you know what something else stood out the referees were great uh I don't remember the last time we did that I mean honestly what the last time we did that for in any of our live streams you know boy that jetkins had a great game you know that's not a great game the line judge he was fantastic um yeah I don't think we do that a whole lot so uh anyways all right guys anything else you got we're gonna wrap this up in about two minutes here uh obviously we're watching Arkansas Alabama um and then a m and Mississippi State about to get underway soon as well um there you go Taylor I'm gonna give you a great answer Taylor Made um same answer as last week my answer is going to be whoever whoever outside of um let's see I'm trying to think well Kentucky if anyone had Kentucky number three who'd you have at number three last week Chris Tennessee okay I attend Tennessee too so I'll stick with Tennessee but Ole Miss is making that move up I think to to being right there I think I would highly consider Ole Miss now in that spot so um I don't I don't think I'll switch but I will I think I'll think about it yeah I think Tennessee can't lose today as far as I know unless somebody gets injured on an off day but um they're probably not moving down in our rankings is my guess but Ole Miss will move up ahead of Kentucky so that's just how it works but all right anything else Chris if not we'll wrap this one up and we will come back at some point uh maybe another one or two live streams today we'll let you yeah because we've we've got uh we've got Arkansas Alabama going and then in a few minutes State and a m will kick off so I think we want to get both those and then LSU Auburn Georgia Missouri is tonight not not the the two best games of the day I think to put it yeah I'm kind of glad the way this is structured to be honest with you because I think you I think you probably had the best well in my one discount is Alabama Arkansas one but I think you know for us we all kind of thought the most maybe intriguing game is going to be Kentucky Ole Miss you put that in kind of a standalone spot um now you get these next two kind of grouped together and then the late games I mean there will be something crazy there's always something crazy to happen with these late games but um we'll see we'll we'll talk about when we look if Missouri comes out and beats George you better believe we'll have another live stream late tonight but um we'll probably have something after this group of Alabama Arkansas and Mississippi State so by the way not non-sec related how about TCU putting 55 on Oklahoma Midway through the third or excuse me Midway through the fourth here as we do this look if you're an SEC fan you're watching Oklahoma's defense here you're loving it um because you're thinking boy we can put up some points on them when they get here um but we'll see so all
