breaking news out of Florida because Florida a hospital and a surgeon are being sued for gross malpractice after a patient dies the patient's liver was accidentally removed instead of the spleen having been removed as intended this isn't a fake onion news story it is being covered by Newsweek the Miami Herald USA Today and others name and shame the hospital is Florida's Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast Hospital surgeon is Dr Thomas shaknovsky well here's the scary part so read it with me the surgeon mistakenly removed his liver mistaking it for the spleen he thought he did his job he told his wife the organ was severely diseased enlarged to four times its normal size and had somehow migrated from the patient's left upper quadrant to right upper quadrant for the non anatomically inclined the spleen is up here in the left upper quadrant it's smaller than the liver up here in the right upper quadrant
