YOU MAY RECOGNIZE HIS NAME ON SCHOOLS ACROSS SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS TO HIGHER EDUCATION--- AND THE IMPACT HE MADE ON THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS. 12 NEWS REPORTER LAUREN BRILL JOINS US WITH MORE ABOUT HIS IMPACT. "THOSE WHO WORKED ALONGSIDE HIM SAY HE WAS DOWN TO EARTH AND VERY INVOLVED IN THE SCHOOLS HE DONATED TO. TRULY INVESTED IN THE IMPACT THESE PROGRAMS HAVE HAD ON THE LIVES OF STUDENTS ACROSS SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND. ALAN SHAWN FEINSTEIN IS KNOWN AS AN EDUCATIONAL PHILANTHROPIST. SCHOOLS ACROSS SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND ARE KNOWN AS FEINSTEIN LEADERSHIP SCHOOLS. AND HE'S THE NAMESAKE OF MANY INCLUDING THE FEINSTEIN ACADEMIC CENTER AT PROVIDENCE COLLEGE. RICK BATTISONI WORKED CLOSELY ALONGSIDE THE PHILANTHROPIST FOR THIRTY YEARS AT PC - DIRECTING THE FEINSTEIN INSTITUTE. CREATING A PROGRAM THAT IMPACTS HUNDREDS OF STUDENTS. WHETHER STUDENTS KNEW FEINSTEIN ━ OR NOT━ THEY'LL BE APART OF HIS LEGACY. OVER AT UNIVERSITY OF RHODE ISLAND STANDS THE FEINSTEIN COLLEGE OF EDUCATION. HIS PHILANTHROPIC EFFORTS WERE AIMED AT INSPIRING YOUNG PEOPLE TO HELP OTHERS IN NEEDAND HE'S DONE JUST THAT FOR MANY URI STUDENTS. (Danielle Dennis/Dean, URI Feinstein College of Education) He took what was initially provided to children at the fourth grade to be a junior scholar and took them all the way to the university that they chose uri with substantial funding so they did not have loans that they have to pay back.
