when you see that field of blue you know it can be only one place in the world boisey Idaho on the campus of boisey state and home to the fabled giant Killers the boisey State Broncos today these two teams Square Off in what should be an exciting Mountain West showdown as we'll see a team fresh and ready to go off of by we the San Diego State Aztec taking on the boisey State Broncos for EA Sports college football I'm ree Davis joined here in the booth as always by David poock and Jesse Palmer guys let's tee this one [Applause] up the Aztec will kick it away first he'll bring it back from inside is five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 so boisey States offense takes the field and here comes the big fella a staple of this aerial attack Jesse and he's a guy that can line up all over the field David there's matchups out there waiting to be taken advantage of yeah and it's so nice to be able to do that it makes it easy to play quarterback when you can feature a guy like this that's fast big and strong looking to throw it's Nelson unloads to the wide out HS it in works his way to the 41 and that is plenty to give him a first down gives it to the back on the draw coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and when you could run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just that takes a hand off it's Genty One Step rep Two Step squeeze as Junior knows how to get him on the ground now on third down after that run they'll try to power their way ahead they tried to go Smashmouth on Third and short and it did not work against this defense a fairly short distance here toward the sidelines not his best [Applause] work the Aztec offense will take the field for the first [Applause] time the offense lining up for a first down [Applause] play Power football with the Run Nifty little Juke and he's out to the 37 before he stopped 6yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and four now the play fake oh he's going to try to get it all here makes a catch on the left and he just kept running and he ran away from the crowd and he'll take it in touchdown San Diego State that was just as simple as playing catch in warm-ups and this offense felt like they could take advantage of this defense down the field throwing the football they've got a lot of speed on the perimeter and I feel like they've got some matchups they feel they should be winning one-on-one we saw a great example of it right there lining up to attack one more onto that [Applause] lead and the pat makes it 7 nothing this offense Prides itself on going after you and they did with that long touchdown pass to finish off a two-play drive Z he'll start the return inside his SP not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 boyy State ready to send out that offense running back searching for a hole didn't get much done on that run he'll fight his way out and maybe maybe pick up a yard going to run it it's Genty follow that blocking and got five out to the 26 somebody needs to make a play here it's third third and long from the 26 from the gun wants to pass he off one deep down the left side oh and it's a pick he threw it right into the double coverage takes it the other way and they capitalize not only on the pick but on the great return to improve this field position sometimes the quarterback puts that zip on it and you can hear it and sometimes he uses the lob wedge where it takes a little time to get there that time he used the lob wedge and the defender came in and made the interception big play for this defense early the Aztec offense ready to go back to work Jesse a very productive Drive last time wound up with a touchdown yeah mixing and matching play calling really well nice balance on that last one Dave we'll see what they can do here in this next Drive yeah and I don't expect anything different when you put together a drive like that I would do more of the same keep the pace keep it going and this one will be stopped for no gain now facing a third and long to throw it's Duffy fires to the wide out on target over the middle he'll come through on third down as he's got enough and they'll mark it at the 23 and the Aztecs will line it up up on First and 10 from the gun they'll try to impose their running game really nice run there good solid pickup and they'll move the sticks with a first [Applause] down that'll do it for the quarter guys and San Diego State is on top we've played one before we move on let's have a look at the stats now to see if these guys can get back in the game as we open the second quarter the Aztec are moving quickly down the field a first down run in the Red Zone they get him on the ground at the three yd line but this defense is taking some punches we'll see if the offense can punch it in on second and goal quarterback on the keeper he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three how many chances can you afford to waste in the Red Zone they've already been stopped twice can they come through this time it's and the heat gets there and they get him down at the 14 yd line our defense nice job early in the game playing well with your backs against the wall job's not over yet though this is an offense that has shown that they can go for it on fourth down especially during these [Applause] situations now now on fourth down they'll send out the field goal [Applause] unit and he missed it no good and the margin remains at seven after the miss [Music] boyy state has it back ready to go to work on offense boy they hope this next Drive is more productive after throwing a pick last time Jesse Yeah and the coaches did a good job on the sideline there just talking to the Young quarterback and making sure he's able to turn the page calm him down to go out and refocus this drive yeah and some people do that better than others but you got to show some trust in him maybe get the ground game going and help around him a little bit with this system they're going to go right back to him on first down they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one lost one on that last one it's second and 11 he'll try to pop the draw and a nice run there before the defense finally makes the stop they plow ahead with the run but still more ground needed to pick up the first down third down coming he'll be stopped short picks up one but there facing fourth and one the Broncos send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it away he's shanked it he won't be able to return this one as it goes out of bounds San Diego State takes over as the offense is ready to go to work you want to talk about taking the wind out of your sails Drive the ball down the field and miss the field goal David you know what don't leave it up to Kickers execute better offensively I think you move the ball nice you got to keep that in mind but Palmer I think you got to stay aggressive and don't settle for field goals yeah because you got to know there's just no margin for error right now you just have got to be able to execute at a higher level looking to pass it's Duffy makes the grab on the left oh and after the big gain the ball's loose defense coming up with a huge fumble recovery you know often times when you're playing in conditions like this and it's raining you'll see a lot of the skill players offensive take off the gloves because they want to be able to feel the football they think it gives them better control of it and I don't know if that played into the football going on the ground there but you know that ball security is going to be one of the biggest factors in this game moving forward the Bronco offense back out there ready to give it another spin they just didn't quite find the Rhythm on that last Drive Jesse they had to punt it I think they got to be catch inside the 30 and still running and he strides his way into the end zone touchdown Bronto quarterback's abilities to read the field is huge and also the anticipation the time to be able to throw the football Jesse and hit a guy in stride so he can get run after the catch and get in the end zone that was a nice job by the quarterback yeah it's critical David listen a lot of times touchdown passes aren't thrown into the end zone you've got to read the coverage hit the open guy and let him do the rest on to attempt the try right down the middle and for a quick update let's go to Kevin Conor's in the studio top 15 teams colliding today in a huge matchup and it's now a final Clemson had an impressive showing there in Death Valley winning this one by double digits although it felt like it could have been more somewhere even Trevor Lawrence is impressed with this one we'll see a lot of games this week but few will have as much of an impact on the new Top 25 Poll next week as this one gentlemen yeah how about that sounds as if they had a good ball game there Kevin thanks for the update 36 brings up second down to the air it's Duffy he's got his man the offense will have to use its first time out of the half now a first down from the 45 yd line he wants to throw oh and it's picked off oh threw it right into the teeth of double coverage and they'll drag him down after a good return on the interception well obviously it's raining here in this game and Ball's slippery I don't know if that slipped out of the QB's hands a little bit but it certainly wasn't an accurate throw and as a result it ends up at an [Music] interception boyy State ready to send out that offense they torched this defense with an explosive Ive passing play for a score last time out let's see if they go right back at him and the physical play there forces the incompletion on first down line getting set on second down after the incompletion back to the passing game throws to the wide out excellent coverage and good use of the hands to knock it away third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off got a man in the middle and they explode on that one and they've got it down to the 22 comes out throwing on first down it's complete to the right the offense will have to use its first time out of the half nice job by the quarterback there throwing the hitch route against Zone coverage you can't stare at him if you do that then you allow the flat Defender to get underneath it and that might be a pick six so really good job by the quarterback there using his eyes to manipulate the defense and he's down after making the catch but did not reach the line to gain they're going to try to throw for it on third down oh they really could have used that catch there physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down so they'll send out the field goal unit it's good and guys after the field goal now they have the lead the head coach decided to play it safe on Fourth and inches and try to field goal team out there and the field goal kicker just made him look like a pretty smart [Music] guy so they put the field goal on the board and about to kick it away and hoping that'll be the final points of this first half and he takes this from inside the five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 guys let's see what adjustments this San Diego State offense has made this time complete they'll rip off eight on that play it's second and two clock still running almost certainly the last play of the half back to throw it's Duffy it's complete to the left they make the Stop and that is the end of the first half first half in the books time now to join Kevin Connors in our halftime update guys who's had a better seat there in boisey for a fun first half than you and it's been said football is a game of inches and guess what based on the comparison between third down conversion rate today and the average yard per play how can you argue that I mean the low-lying fruit is to look at some of the explosive plays we've seen in panic but really this game is going to come down to which team is more efficient when they have the ball and how they play when it matters most and with that let's send it back to our guys high above the Smurf turn5 and the Broncos will try to kick this one deep to get things underway in the second half on the move from inside is five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 guys we're about to get another look at this San Diego State offense grabbed in the middle it's Tanner and that was some kind of collision between a couple of big bodies there and he stopped from getting the first down second down on second down he'll fire and it'll be incomplete this is some physical pass defense we'll see if they go back to the air after the incompletion it's third and five the run from the shotgun really tough run there he got four that'll leave him a yard short on fourth down and the Aztec will send out the punt unit oh he left him grabbing that's a perfect example of not settling for a fair catch pick up whatever yardage you can and help out the offense from the gun he leaves it with the back at the 45 on it way and he gets a big chunk of yardage to the 34 yd line the Broncos will hustle to the line I bet that running back's eyes got so big when he gets that hand off going to the right and he sees the huge holes yes please the defense just didn't flow quickly enough all of the blockers had leverage on their M and that defensive line has to get off the ball a little bit better get some penetration to stop that outside run trying to cap this drive with a pass he he's got it and still on his feet they'll get it down to the 8 yd line on that throw and catch and the defense is backed up against the wall keeping it on the ground on first and goal he works his way all the way down to the three and the defense is reeling now on second and goal tries again to get it in Into The End Zone he goes touchdown boyy state and what a push up front by this offensive line everyone playing in unison driving out of their stance working into the second level hats on hats creating a lane for that running [Applause] [Music] back they'll try to add another to their lead exra point and he made that extra point the wet Turf no problem at all a very efficient five play scoring drive and Clos the deal with a three- yd touchdown runan Diego and here's the return nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 the Aztec offense ready to go back to work they are trailing by 10 here Jesse but this is the type of team that seems comfortable in an offensive shootout you got to hold serve at this point right you got to drive the field put some more points up on the board yeah they just scored you can answer that now and keep this thing close David and I think you're used to that as offense like football is so fast-paced now and you score so quickly it's not that big of a deal to get down 10 you keep being you keep being aggressive short completion last play Let's see if they throw it again give to the back they make the stop but this running game moves to change as they get the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs pulls it and fires to the left knocked down at the 44 but he got 15 on that one the Aztecs have it with a first in 10 looking to move it through the air unloads to the wide out got his man downfield and the catch and run into the end zone touchdown as T got to start cutting into this lead somewhere now the question will they have enough time but that's step one you got to get that first score you got to get back in the ball game and get some of that momentum back on your side you still got more work to do but step one accomplished he'll try to tack on one more on for the extra point and with the extra point they close it to a 1714 game almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown 17 San Diego State 14 and he's coming out of the end zone they drag him down at the 22 he gambled for the big return out of the end zone and came up a little short boyy state has it back ready to go to work on offense wants to throw on first down off the play fake he's open on the right they've got it to the 49 yd line and they'll move the chain That's What's So Scary About This offense they've got guys in the perimeter that can change the game in one single play and you saw it right there too much speet on the perimeter to create that explosive play they move the tight end all over they'll leave it with him breaks the tackle you'll take this every time five yards on the first down play as they get set to snap it just about to reach the end of the quarter looking to throw it's Nelson and that's going to fall to the ground incomplete that was a physical matchup there third down coming now they'll run the draw and brought down looks as if that's how we'll end the third number 35 on the field goal that's the end of the quarter and boisey state has the lead let's take a quick look at the national rankings to see how this playoff race is shaping up one more period to go to see who can make the winning plays and come home with the Victory and now on fourth down they will put it on the shoulders of the kicker to save them with this fo somebody better check that dude's foot and see if it's juic man oh man from outside 60 he sails it through [Music] after the last Drive ended with a field goal the kickoff team out there to send it away looking for blockers and the returner is stopped San Diego State takes over as the offense is ready to go to work the give to the tail back they stop him after a 6yd run out to the 24 got six on first down now a lot of option on second and four they'll Run play action fires to the wide out and that ball is picked off trying to take it back and a big return after the int sets up the offense for this possession well we know these are slick conditions today in this game wide receiver just didn't seem to really get a good grasp on the ball when it hit his hands didn't stick right away there's a a bit of a bobble and because of it the defense able to come away with the pick [Music] so this offense with an opportunity to put this game in a hammer lock if they can score and bleed the clock and the defense makes a play sacking him back at the 10 quarterback just has to do a much better job throwing that football away in that type of situation in go to go you cannot go backwards so you need to know if your guy's not open this is going to be an incompletion I'm throwing this thing into the fourth row of it stands defense rolls up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming the run up the middle trying to steamroll his way in he bullies his way all the way down to the 5 yd line they love to make this short field payoff with a touchdown instead of a field goal but it's third and goal just threw that one away to avoid disaster so here we are on fourth down and this field goal kicker is going to face all the pressure in the world it is true as he puts three on the board you know it's funny in an age when there's so many college football analytics and everybody wants to go for it on fourth down at the end of the day it still comes down to managing good decision by the head coach here in the fourth quarter like kicking that field goal you've now made it a two possession game your chances of winning this thing have now gone way up so they're lining up to kick it off after that last Drive put a three- spot on the board and now the defense will try to shut him down here he comes from inside his own five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 guys let's see what adjustments this San Diego State offense has made this time quickly complete and he'll run across the sidelines after the good gain and now on second down for this offense brings up second down the give to the back ripping off a pretty good chunk of yardage they've got it out to the 41 with a first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs looking to throw it's Duffy fires to the tight end and oh he was Off to the Races after the catch and they finally drag him down and the Aztecs headed quickly to the line well down two possessions good news is you get the completion bad news he hurls one deep down the left side hits him in stride inside the T down to the three yd line and that's where they'll have it first and goal he's looking to throw coming after it and they get to the quarterback and knock him down back at the 16 defense rolls up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming he's looking to throw trying to get to him and the defense gets loose bringing the Heat and down he goes again it's still third and goal he's looking downfield to throw and the pressure gets to him again another sack a fourth quarter field goal down by this much that's a lot like putting a lip stick on the proverbial pig doesn't do much to change going for it all it's incomplete and they desperately needed to keep that drive going and they couldn't make the connection turn they'll keep it on the ground the clock is on their side gets it across the 30 to the 31 a pick up of five we reached the two-minute warning and this offense will be quite content just to drain the rest of the time away going to the running game and the stiff arm was strong but the defense was stronger and they stop him for a short gain this is a big third down if they can move the chains they can just about salt this game away Jukes his way for more really nice patient job to find some Running Room by this junior defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense to the ground with the back and he is swarmed under a host of Defenders there to make the stop quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense the give to the back nice move there ball is free defense just cradling that fumble and securing it and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back for its own and ball security is job security you give the ball to your running back you you give the ball to your playmaker you expect him to take care of the football especially in these situations all we're trying to do is run clock get that thing get out of here we got the lead by two possessions try to find a way not to do what we just did that's a horrible turnover there got it in the middle middle it's Tanner I'll tell you I love the play call on first down here you're just trying to find an easy completion and the shortest throw on the field for the quarterback is finding your biggest Target and that's the tight end nice job pressure coming and the quarterback is snowed under sprinting to the line to try to get this one off clock's running third on third down he'll try to pick it up through the air thir and they can't make the connection down in the fourth quarter it's too late for empty possessions they'll go for it on fourth down here's a throw downfield late incomplete on fourth down and man did they need to keep that drive alive on first down here comes this offense and as the quarterback takes a knee that clock keeps dwindling away now under a minute to play so after stumbl in around a bit earlier this season they put together three consecutive wins and seem to have rided the ship dang right how do you how do you handle adversity every coach talks about that they dealt with it now they they got the loss they had a little bit of struggle early in the season what do you do you respond by putting a winning streak together gaining some momentum as the season closes and sometimes the good thing about losing games early is that you know you're not perfect you have to come out you've got to bring your aame to the park each and every week and that's what we've seen from this team now recently they've got tremendous players they got an outstanding coaching staff when they put
