so Canada just defeated the United States on the men's side 2-1 friendly what does it mean well let's talk about [Music] it hey guys welcome back to the Africans uh we do primarily Canadian African content don't worry the African content is coming uh make sure you leave us a like comment subscribe let us know what you feel um because we have an interesting conversation which I might either add water to or just pour some more oil and just let it burn guys uh make sure you do all that um so today uh Canada beat the United States 2-1 in a friendly versus uh them goal scorers were Jacob schafberg and Jonathan David for Canada and Luca delatore for the United States what does it all mean I mean what do this mean is basically our match reaction uh Series so if you hear me asking that question it's a match reaction and more of a a little bit of a short breakdown from my perspective I think it's we let's start off with the basics I think you look at the game and at it played there are two clear things we could say first being Canada was ready to go and they looked ready to operate from the kickoff the US look lethargic look disinterested to them felt like a friendly to Canada meant something now that being said the US did not have a full roster meaning they didn't have they had injuries as the Canada can have to send a few players home just doe to injuries but let's go through the lineups that we had and we'll kind of talk about the game and kind of what we noticed what we saw from there so starting 11 for Canada we had Maxin kpo in the go you had Alonso Davies Moy bomito Derek Cornelius and Alistar Johnson across the back line in the middle you had Stephania with metu schw and on the outside you had Jacob schelberg and Ali ammed and then up top you had Kyle lren and Jonathan David Alonso Davies wearing the armband as per usual and that was Canada's lineup the US had for their 11 star Patrick Shulton goals had Chris Richards us Musa Christian pulic Brandon Arison Tim maram Johnny cardoso Malik Tillman Florian balagan Joe scall and Kristoff lung W their 11 so you'll notice a lot of names are missing for the US um so not their strongest nine not for Canada strongest 11 for Canada you can say the same thing you don't have Ton you're missing con so no one's at full strength um not to diminish anything so let's throw those excuses out the window before I even get to Canada because I want to talk about them um America you all good like we thought Greg was the problem but maybe it's not just Greg maybe just the players that they did not look interested until the second half when they started to push a bit more they they were playing this like friendly now again you have a side that's going to push and when it's very evident that you're not going 100% when the other team is sprinting you know this game at certain points felt like you know that if you guys have ever been part of a team there's a if you ever been part of like a basketball team and there was that one all effort player in that practice he's just going flood all the time while the stars are kind of you know coasting that's what it looked like look like Canada were the that were those sixth seventh eighth men Off the Bench who were just going all out balls the walls every moment of the game and then the US were kind of just like whatever the there's been a lot of conversation with the US Men's National Team and soccer in terms of their mentals and I think a game like this does not help that conversation it adds to it for as talented as this group is I think in the same breath we can look and say they aren't as mentally strong and get them under pressure and they fold which is why a lot of people have said they are a homeside get them on the road they've not been able to perform well but this was at home now granted yes I I jokingly tweeted before they gave it there's like three quarters or half of the stadium is empty does it really count as a game yes it's still a game but America like in the words of Bernie ma America you got to do something because this is not what the region I mean as a region will take it but we're a little bit concerned are y'all good like are y'all still mourning did you did you miss Greg that much like talk to me like cuz this for the talent that they have they are underperforming now maybe that's also on the club level but for this national team I don't think it's encouraging to say that the best they've looked at was when the assistant of the assistant coach played them well into games but I digress America yall got stuff you have to figure out and maybe when you're healthy you can figure that out maybe it's all on patino to come in and save the day but there needs to be a mentality switch before we even get the tactic cuz this team just looks like as the Jamaicans would say they look like soft So Soft so moving on Canada um they looked ready for this game they looked up for this game um the pressure got to them the US tried to play from the back and they don't have players who are that technical who can do so so that pressure C cre a lot of mistakes this game should have been much worse and we'll get to that point in a bit but Canada truly play their best one of their best better games that we've seen in a while shout out to Ali akmed who honestly outside of scoring a goal him in metri since the rugu game which has been the the real first showcase they have shown their ability to be able to perform at this level which makes you think okay why weren't they given an opportunity before ahed was playing in that Lara role basically at the last go cup and schang wasn't even really brought in it does speak a little bit to you know different regime evaluating players in different aspects so I had questions in terms of like okay this has been here the whole time why is this why hasn't this been brought in but I think those two players played well you're seeing Moyes bito continue to develop as a center back he just needs to be able to read the game a little bit better but he has the physical skills to be able to nullify he's another Alonso Davies effectively who has the pace and can nullify any type of counter action that's happening Davies was a quiet solid game I think he's a player who in his role is sitting and I think the more opportunities and the more he plays in the system the more he'll start to push up but he was just solid in his role Jonathan DD active pressing love what we saw from him we got to see hakio get the push up a little bit higher on the pitch which was great cool uh third point we haven't really been numbering guys so let's kind of just flow with this what is Canada going to do with their Knights Kyle Laren looked better he looked active in this part of this game when it comes to passing he looked better but his finishing you can tell he's a night that doesn't have confidence now right now it looks like Jesse Marsh wants to stick to the 4222 or this 442 um and if he's going to do that my suggestion would be we've seen Jonathan David plays better I feel when he can play off more pace around him and not to say that kerin isn't pacy but of the nines that we have available and this is where I thought like maybe a freea could have come in and played as a roaming nine but I think the player who I think should get a look here is J Russell row I wish it would have been Theo bear and if it wasn't Theo bear I wish it would have been EK both those players aren't in Camp both one wasn't called the other one had to leave Camp so for me I'd say try out a Jason Ruffo now Tanny eloi is there and G if I'm butchering his name we're out here in this country but Tanny is a good option but Tanny to me almost feels in his two to three cameos he feels more like a nine who's kind of playing like Len is which is getting movement getting to positions but isn't able to finish and I would rather give that opportunity to Jason right now just to let him see what he can do and kind of see how he can create and move off of that I still think the best option is a 433 any variation of a 433 or if we're going to do this play a 4 42 Diamond but then that creates questions with a 4222 but I think having David as an out andout n works so so if you go with a 433 you still can have ahed and shaffle BG out wide and then you can put and this is where you can kind of start to experiment with it we didn't see Niko Seager yet but I would have loved to seen a Niko Seager in the middle here and then you can push and new stock you up because once con gets back then you can be either con and stack and then rotate who wants to stand back and kind of sh up that middle and allow the other two to move forward I think that opens up so many possibilities but I think for right now Len is doing everything right but scoring so do you stick with him and reward him and hope that eventually the dam will be broken and he scores or you just say we love what you're doing but let's try something else and I think it's going to be different against me Mexico aside who will hold that possession so what value will you have say in a nine that can only really pressure but won't be able to do too much of this based off the matchup alone I might lean towards a Jason Russell Row in this situation just to give him a little bit more Pace in attacking this Mexican SI as to go on but I think ultimately that is the question I think I have for marsh that everyone is looking at what do you do at the nine do you try another nine there or G just remove Kyle and put another midfielder on the pitch for me I'd go with another midfielder but for going to go for another nine that's where I would go I'd go Jason Russell row Tanny I wouldn't be mad with Tanny but Tanny has got into great opportunities and great spaces just hasn't been able to finish so for me try someone else and until you find someone who can I think you keep it open as it keeps going overall um fourth point we got wins this is a it's not a I'm not going to call it a signature win for the program it is a friendly but it's a big win in terms of the perception of the program yes we will look at and hear people say well such and such wasn't there yes we know on the paper it still says Canada beat the US yes it's been 57 years but I think it's a big win because they need to start to stack these results right we we can't be in Canada can't be amazing performance merchants and that's what everyone was saying after the France and the Dutch games we can't be you know moral Victory Merchants that they need to now actually get W's and they got two well they got they got two at Koba and now they got one against the US I'm much more curious to see how they look against Mexico because I think Mexico as a size is someone we haven't played in a while right the last time we played Mexico was in the iska that's 2021 the end of 20121 that's the last time we've locked horns with Mexico it's been 3 years now their program is different so is C and I think this is a better test because I think in different ways in the same way that I think in coner cap the US builds themselves to beat Mexico Canada has built themselves to beat and to compete with the US now the question is can they now take that against and push a Mexico and get a result there it if they leave this window with two victories you have to feel good if you're a Canadian looking at this program even if they get if they get a draw versus Mexico tell me how the draw looks but I think this game against Mexico is going to be a big one especially for the psyche of a lot of Canadian men's national team fans cuz a win versus Mexico I mean the obnoxiousness returns also on the side note we are not Kings of conquer we beat the US in a friendly we have no trophies since 2000 we need a trophy that is something that needs to happen they need something to stamp some legitimacy that's the one one of the things that the Herman regime wasn't able to do they weren't able to get that signature trophy win Gold Cup semi-finals Nations League finals they beat the US in the game but they need Hardware they need silverware and that's we'll kind of look at it but guys 2-1 for Canada over the US what did you think the game was lowkey comfortable yes the US you know have their moments in the second half there were those nerving moments but Canada felt like in the control they were dictating how the game was going to be played in the US couldn't really get out of that but yeah let me know how you guys feel what you saw highlights who are your players of the match I think to me Ali Al that that's him for me Jonathan David got the goal so he'll get the credit but Alim gets that that is they are not the big dog but in something that we had said two years ago they are they are uncomfortably sitting in a third place seat in the region now they have to prove they belong there I think results like this will help do that but you guys let me know what you think and as always I'm going stop talking now
