Intro Washoe County School District is committed  to ensuring that all students are warm,   safe, and dry. We have spent hundreds of  millions of dollars since the passage of   the capital funding ballot initiative in 2016  to accomplish this work throughout the district.  Window Film The project behind us is the Window Film project.  We did 33 schools this summer to add window film   coverings to any of the open glass areas. We do that mainly as a security issue. That keeps   the looky-loos and anybody from being able to look  from a public area into where the students are.  It was a pretty quick one, obviously a lot of  work was done by Grafics Unlimited ahead of time,   to get those designs approved. At that point,  it's basically just printing them off and more   or less peel and sticking onto the windows.  So, they were doing multiple schools a day. So we're doing a seismic retrofit  of the gym and replacing the roof,  removed the entire roof deck, and put a new  structural steel deck on. And then we'll put   the new PVC system over the top of that. We're going in with new LED lighting, so   it'll brighten the place up quite a bit  and give them better light for the gym.  Playground They're working on adding retaining walls,  landscape walls here. They're going to   add a storm drain to help with drainage  here. They're going to add some stairs   and some sidewalk for just accessibility and,  to make the playground more visually pleasing.  Before, they had a bit of an erosion problem , So, we had to add landscape walls in order   to make it, functional without the erosion  happening and going into all of the basketball   court and the other playgrounds down there. It's really important for us to get this   stuff outside done when kids aren't here, because  they're obviously using a lot of the playground.  Innovations We're at Innovations High School down on  Second Street, and we are doing a bunch of   remodel and improvements to kind of update  the space and make some more teaching areas.  We essentially knocked down some walls and  filled in some other walls to make some   bigger classrooms and some additional media spaces and library space.  Toward the front of the building, we took  an existing office and a closet space and   turned that into a new nurse's clinic. To kind of clean the space up and make   things a little bit brighter in  here, we repainted a lot of walls,  and got rid of the carpet, put a hard  surface in there. So that should be   easier to maintain and take care of. Office We are doing the new single point of entry. All the kids will be entering from the  front. There be a new transaction counter and a window, and an automatic door that  can be buzzed in, to keep the school more secure. This just makes sure that everybody  is known when they're here. They'll get a new logo that's a lot brighter and a  nice thing to look at when you walk in the doors. We moved the counter so that there's  more room for everybody to enter and fill out paperwork. So, we replaced all the main areas of carpet in the office and adjoining main areas of the office. We have a very short window in the summer, and it's very challenging to keep all the  projects on track. With material shortages, just procuring things. The  contractors somehow every year make it work! Outro Repairing and upgrading our existing  school buildings is prioritized using   our Facility Condition Index System.  For more details and information about   our capital renewal work, visit  our Data Gallery at this website.
