of the show my name is zanab suas and I'm a friend of the show boom hey guys my name is Sasha vickory and I'm a friend of the show boom hi my name is Lord Harris and I'm a friend of the show perfect hi my name is Jasmine Pini and I'm a friend of the show wow Jasmine you got it in one time hello hello and welcome to talking tennis um Welcome Friends um we have a lot of friends here on talking tennis uh and yeah we're just getting started now you're probably wondering why hasn't the match already started well it's because we had a little bit of a range while they close the roof doesn't seem to stop play on the outside Court um Golan mahat have arrived on uh Court 17 and uh obviously we've got grand stand already underway between muker and Potter at one game all but I'm gonna be watching um Jas palini against Julia ptin saver and I'm gonna be watching it with the one the only the legend from deepest darkest Poland it's Damen C Daman how you doing not too deep and dark yet but if the ladies keep going for quite a while today maybe we will get there we will see um yeah Alou Amon Stadium I'm glad we chose a court with a roof because apparently there's a bit of a well I mean for now they're playing but you know there's some sort of light rain that might stop us at some point but not on Louis Armstrong as of course they have already closed it and yeah pretty excited for this one Pini of course incredible results at the slums this year Putin SE also having a very good season don't think it's Crystal Clear that Pini is going to win um in fact someone recently suggested to me like if Pini is having these sort of results like what's stopping Putin ever and I kind of agree with that statement like she's not really like a fundamentally much better player than the kazak so yeah should be exciting I completely agree with you Daman I me like uh pet is a player who hasn't got to the last four of like the biggest tournaments but she keeps knocking on the door and she keeps beating big players obviously the season she's got wins over shant and uh go and I think it's also interesting um here when we when we look at it like this is just one step on what is a tough road for Pini like when Mario and I looked at the draw um we i b we basically said Pini has the toughest draw of the top eight women seeds given she had androski round one could have had PL round two she hadn't retired it was gonna be Putin round three and then beyond was going to be ridiculously hard maybe not so much now Rebecca's gone out but on paper poin did have a really tough route ahead of her yeah and it would be even more insane if she just did it again you know she had another big run out of a draw like this and um yeah I really you know at at this point it's kind of Beyond unexplainable really but it it keeps happening so there has to be something to it there's a lot of confidence right in palini um right now um I think everything just clicking with her game um I do like how proactive she is yes she's not doesn't have the biggest weapons in the world but she does have them um and she does have a really good ability to just basically move heret around to eventually hit to to eventually get the court open so that she can hit into that open space um and I think against pretty much anyone else on tour right now that works really really well there seems to be some kind of delay to them actually getting started for some reason um yeah very of called somewhere but it seems like we're going to start now so don't not not to worry uh the delay in the end doesn't last that long we are starting 18 minutes after the not before time but of course tennis matches don't really start at you know 500 P pm on the dot my time 11: am on the dot local time so so yeah basically no delay well we have now started and Par started with an unret returnable first serve so there we go that's exactly what you want to start a match saw that they played Just Once three years ago and poros that's kind of one of pini's best pre um let's say pre Peak rounds in general right I mean she she had a a bit of a breakthrough result there yeah yeah she's kind of been on the radar for a bitly this year she's right in the center um of everyone's views um bra by the way is concerned for your health is concerned that you have not slept I slept I slept don't worry um yesterday I slept like during the thir set of Shelton thefo I woke up with Ben having that six five set point then I indeed W you know watched jovic poin I watched everything until the end then I went to bed for like three or four hours so I think in total I got like six or something so no no I'm definitely fine today is going to be a long night though I definitely want to watch kabo medev and first and foremost most importantly at 5: a.m. Mar time there's the Jang jagang final Mark Lal against yasutaka uchiyama so that of course I cannot miss and that's a big um that's a big Challenger right um 75s I think it it's all this week so um yeah just the regular regular challanger next week is a is is a huge one on the Cher circuit with six events including two 125s yikes ready for all the people who went out first week in the US Open to try and get some matches in yeah I think some some went out you know because they wanted to play a Challenger in the second week like they just fought yeah what's the point of playing in New York I have to be in Genoa or Seville next week that is an insane cat and mouse point you just had po was all over the court it wasn't enough as under pressure her back hands gone to the tram line but what a point from both like this could be a fun match lots of slicing and dicing from Putin so but pini's movement might be able to allow her to uh stand up to not on that point but in general that if that's the way things are going we're in for a fun match and there's that pocket rocket forehand as well from power to to get the game yeah I mean both of these are definitely gritty as hell too like they'll be they'll be determined to fight for every point so it should be a fun battle maybe Pini is just that player who yeah just has a bit more to say offensively in general maybe that's what's kind of allowed her to separate herself but of course for many many years Putin sea was kind of the the superior player in fact not kind of she was obviously the superior player before last year when Pini turned the corner indeed indeed although yeah I mean like it's one of the things I think they were there were very sort of similar kind of levels bubbling away and uh P's had that breakthrough and um I guess in terms if you look at just Raw results uh in terms of how deep she's got in certain tournaments P still hasn't um but there's no reason to think it was not coming and she's stepping up to serve yeah I mean she's been around forever but she's not um that old so still a couple more years but it does feel like she's been around like for for for decades really for me like I I don't know just the consistency at the top I guess is what does it really I mean it's I don't think she ever really like fell out of the top 100 or something I think she's been very consistently in the top 50 30 and and yeah um I think that's what's kind of causing this feeling yeah ex yeah she has been the top 50 for a long time um hello Ana by the way um lovely to have you on the chat as always glad that you've got some time to watch some tennis um at the minute and as we got a pocket rocket forehand from Pini C cleans the line and it's love 30 nice bu so P already kind of under a little bit of pressure in this uh service game and uh yeah I any kind of always being pushed back and having to jump for it but uh uh but it's still works really well that slice didn't quite kind of being again forced into it by uh pet which is kind of uh kind of in front of it rather than alongside it so no wonder went over the Baseline 1530 I want to pretend that I know everything about the coaching situation of every player on the WT tour but I had no idea Mato Donati was where working with uh Putin SAA that's kind of surprising to me of course that's a guy I remember from his Challenger days as well okay he's a for a challenger player yeah I would say maybe his career high was like 150 or something like that I have to check that but he's not he's not been a coach before has he as uh I don't think so I think like two years ago maybe he retired um because he just kept having injuries um but but yeah I mean he still he still had some appearances like 2022 or 23 I think and I was actually very close to being right on that career high 159 not bad uh Peter TI just say two break points by the way um great first at the tea and she's got a nice 4and in the corner that P do even have hope for moving for and un pretend serve morning Dave or afternoon for us but morning for you nice to uh see you uh nice to see you in the chat as always and yeah still just about morning in the US um won't be mourning for long in New York but we'll get there great for from Putin C got is contagious yeah I don't know that word but apparently it's a German one means enthusiasm oh as Putin does the splits trying to slide in um for a volley and she puts that over the Baseline juice I guess with another seismic result brazy meant po jovic there probably will be a time to to talk about that as well I I think that's definitely um change event talk um depending on or next next game who knows um I agree yeah yeah just to keep an eye but yeah I do want to get your thoughts it because obviously I don't think you've appeared on a stream since well two days of crazy night sessions the line from Putin Civ error from po ends up with pet getting the points so advant pet but apparently was kind of struggling to control that um bra I don't know if Jethro ever caught the Mouse um he hasn't told me Ellena definitely keep us updated on Mook and poova back for pet forehand Cross Court from Pini Pet's oh over hit the forehand and she's frustrated juice it's a little bit scrapping at the minute from peda yeah we' got mova poova and also go mahat H the rematch for that insane Wimbledon round one yeah that that would be a fun repeat if that happened 5- zero in the deciding set and then we get a tiebreak yeah um so yeah yeah but obviously uh I neither of us watching that much so alen if you want to send us any thoughts on what's happening in mova POA please please do I will say this like if mova loses to potapova after beating Osaka that will be kind of off putting like I mean at least go for it now you know just just you got a great win take advantage it's POS I mean like okay Asaka is definitely High caler opponent than poova no doubt about that great drop volley from Pini kind of stops at dead advantage to the Italian so break point um but I guess my question would be is POS of Poa that much of a drop down I mean not really but I kind of lost hope for her the last year or so to be honest like I I've stopped hoping that she will do something very relevant soon uh Pini though is doing something very relevant and yeah just staying on top in a lot of these points and um gotta like this start a lot more lively than putinas yeah she's definitely yeah he put that forehand long so Pine has got the early break for two love and yeah she's doing exactly same thing like I don't think Fu's sort of uh more disruptive game style is going to bother Pini as much as it would other opponents that's fair actually yeah bini seems very well equipped to to handle that and it's it's tough to kind of get her uncomfortable like this especially since 2023 yes for sure when she seems a whole new player really yeah um apparently M has saved two break points Thanks Elena um yeah she's a great watch I completely agree um I loved I mean like I haven't seen much of it other than that back behind uh forehand that she hit um which obviously went all over social media um that was a wonderful shot but yeah I like the thing with Muk is she does make everything she seems to make every match she's in a scrap more or less back behind yeah she kind of flick she kind of I'm trying to demonstrate here she kind of which way is my camera going she kind of flicks her arm back there and managed to get the ball back and caught and hit a winner oh wow who was that against uh it was our first round so okay American player volet volet yeah Kitty volet um yeah I was thinking it was in the Osaka match and I was confused because I did the commentary for this one and I couldn't remember remember it but yeah against volets I didn't watch it so I I didn't I thought I only saw that basically that clip of her doing it has gone all over Twitter and Instagram fair I didn't see it but yeah against oaka she had a couple of stunners as well especially the voling on the stretch um there was this one the seven volley which like like that sort of agility at the net and I'm sorry for saying something like that but like you don't really see it when in women's tennis I think was very manlike in in like how she how she approached the net and and kind of was able to reach to every 4and volley and also get that one amazing backand one is this uh is this Daman Chris I'm commentating with or Chris ort I don't know oh so out the loop never mind um chis says things like that as well maybe yeah yeah chy ever said something similar and got a lot backlash for it okay yeah I think um recently there was also a quote from somebody Shelton who said that golf uh plays like a man or something like that and he like meant it as a compliment but it wasn't really treated like that you know by people I mean it was treated as like a compliment coming from Shelton but it wasn't treated as a as a welcome compliment just say yeah and similar thing happened with Chrissy with um um book to the point where like on tweeted about it and then Chris Evers actually quote tweeted on and apologized yeah I I I've heard this about mova many times too um I can see why though I I I know a few people who are like only ATP fans and their favorite WTA player is moova and I I think there is some sort of a correlation there yeah who would be like an example the other way we're like if there there's if there are people who only watch the WTA who are they going to be fans of on the ATP circuit um I think I can think of her catch seems quite popular really wow but then that I don't know if that's WTA Twitter or eag Twitter H yeah maybe it's just e Twitter yeah could be a bit of both um but Hubie would make sense in some ways um yeah I think ATP Twitter really likes like mova maybe Osaka as well sabalenka probably or just moov moov is kind of the one who stands out I think makova has got a big Chance by the way she's a breakup um uh looking at scores but uh yeah um M mov I think if she could get anything like that semi-final run she had last year matching it is possible but hard um she she's done set herself up very nicely for the next 12 months because she's gonna have nothing to defend until basically grass and I mean the semi-final doesn't have to be where she stops this time G eliminated her last year yeah g is not in the same half now I think no May bishon or someone like that right yeah bishon or Pula in the semis most likely yeah maybe more manageable for mova I mean we've seen her do so well at like luring IGA forward and just getting her off the Baseline basically we know m is a nightmare for eager on Clay courts why not on hard why not on a faster or like medium fast hardcore yeah I don't see reason anden is giving us stats by the way um it looks like uh yeah W has won nine points in a row against poova and then hit four races to zero um and we've got nerland in the chat hello um eager match is first night match of the night session so 5:00 P PM Eastern Time be midnight for me 1 am for Damian yeah I think it's 2 am for you Nan if you uh if you are in Turkey right now P just misses a ball over the Baseline and pu has got gain points to try and get the first game on the board yeah hasn't really like done remarkably well to get to that 405 but massive for right now to just just get a point get a game I just R my mic's not plugged in um you sound okay does I think it is a bit louder clearer maybe but yeah the previous one was fine too well it's good to know that my uh John can tell a difference apparently so um but yeah I I I I've I've got my professional mic in now so all good um putina got a game but is still like very angry and just speaking to his coach you know very animated despite getting that one but well free one let's see if she can come wake up because so far I think she's been pretty nervy tense that's pretty standard for Putin sa though isn't it that's true it doesn't always like it's not always reflected in her game but in her behavior for sure I mean she calls yourself like an angel of the court and a gangster on it right so so yeah uh no to answer your question eeg's not had a night session yet so I'm going to assume that's why they've put Haron uh to tonight and they're probably also like with these two halfes the draw they're kind of running out of star players to put on what's the first um women's match on ash today first match Pula pulo uh pagura okay yeah yeah I think shova is probably the better night choice but then again yesterday we had Shelton Theo right yeah in the day session so I don't really know what they were doing there I mean apparently Novak requested to play at night would it be enough for the US Open organizers to kind of let him I don't know yeah incredibly stupid if if like one request was enough to to do it I I don't really requesting it though yeah but the other one the other match is like what you're trying to sell the event with as well Shelton TFO is your massive selling point yesterday I don't know why they did like yeah I know sh T Friday Night Under The Lights would have been an epic I'm I'm fine with it I was probably oh even even though I took a nap during Shelton T I was probably more awake watching it than I was watching jovic poin but yeah yeah I mean I don't get that decision whatsoever we go by the way we've got poing in trouble on serve at 1530 let's see if she can give herself out of here we got a great R going on between these two P's going to come in behind a back hand she's going to scoop up the volley oh that was too good Peter couldn't run it down dir all all that doubles experience playing off what a volley I mean I guess in doubles you're not going to be playing a volley like this that often but it can still happen yeah um I think uh Shelton tifo um is currently going down is probably the best match of the tournament so far I know miles was very excited to call it that on Twitter and I was like yeah but your bias they have I mean even if it even if it was two times what a pass I think he's right yeah I mean I would agree with it yeah what a pass but also what a poor approach should not have been anywhere near that forehand corner there from Pini and and wasn't even the corner really she just got it straight to Puttin s um so break point for p great first serve though really short ball and P puts away the forehand juice as alen is thank you updating updating us that Potter saved break points going a double breakdown to M yeah the serving doing quite a lot of damage for just mean for sure she was kind of in position to win the next Point mostly B on based on serf quality as well but in the end it ended up kind of falling back into neutral gear and there's going to be another breako for Putin s yeah I'm just seeing that yeah it's a bit of a loose backand from Pini there don't think it was under too much pressure and yeah could be back on terms in a minute um there's a question for you from nuran Daman although I would say do you mean the courts of the US Open in general or do you mean this specific court on Louis Armstrong because sometimes courts even at the same event are different from each other um but yeah medium or fast more forehand explosive explosiveness from Pini in the meantime is the cord medium or fast some people say this quite fast maybe not as fast as Cincinnati but a fast cor I mean it all depends on your expectations I think if we call what we what we have here on the US Open fast then that's only because the whole tour has changed a lot over the last 10 15 years I I would say calling in medium fast is probably the kind of most accurate we can do but obviously it all depends on your scale like you know you can call Cincinnati medium fast and then well you can still be kind of right but then Super then then fast would be like carpet and these altitude hardcore events in Italy indoors like or say Andrea and stuff so I don't know it all depends on kind of where you set the potential scale and and the the tiers but for me I mean I think calling it medium fast is probably the most accurate description it's not as fast F Cincinnati but is it still faster than most of the tour yeah not 90% of the tour but most of the tour yeah as um P's got another break point as P's had to pick up a tried to pick up a backand on the approach and put it well over the Baseline um yeah so like I woulde completely with your point Daman like it's all down to where you're scaling it at um there isn't like because like there are speed things but it's not particularly clear so um yeah I guess sort of it's fast than most but not that much um I think it's it's fair easy to adjust Noland ask if it's compared to the AO or answer that question after this point and want to see if P breaks it's another great rally um p m balling here P's going to try and she's moving it from side to side a lot parry's just moving P now wrong foot so great winner in the end and it's juice so another break every break point suddenly pini's forehand becomes like the most precise shot in the world and that's how she's Reviving this game so far so she needs a forand Precision when she's not break point down that would probably help her out a lot um speaking of like forehand Precision I mean what you're now going to see is like negative forand Precision okay uh so we're about to look forward to that so it looks like yeah p is going to get another break Point opportunity yet yeah that was definitely not precise that was kind of weirdly caught by the racket of palini um compared to the Australian Open I think that's slower than Australia yeah maybe a touch slower I mean there's also the balls there's also even here we have different balls for the men for the men and women of course which also impacts things but also the humidity I mean Australia is just straight bang in the middle of the Australian summer New York you always have it humid which probably slows it down a bit it's not really too comparable for the human eye I think yeah that's they were try the eye test on the TV as well and I do think TV does do some things um yeah even the the angle of the camera uh can really influence your perception of the cord speed a lot so uh I think that maybe if we were live at both Events maybe then we would kind of be able to accurately just based on the ey test say something but yeah I think here we can just say that there moderately similar and there's not much really you can add to that yeah maybe we need like a tame player as well like so we had a hit and oh what a backhand winner from Putin saber just at another break point it's a sign of life it's a sign of life from the kazak here this this wrting P pretty much the first time in the match he really goes for something like that and well pays off big time yeah this but now we have a break point so would it be more like Pini super precise for or well she got second serve here it's not going to help her out there's a little bit of pressure coming this could be a f most of break points she she's had to go on a second serve maybe I haven't paid too much attention to that bit um drop shot from ptin so P's going to come in and deal with it P's got a lobber backand overhead from Parry back hand P winner winner and P breaks back it's it's 23 and game on an Armstrong yeah this time Putin was like I'm not going to let you overwhelm you with these forand again I'm just going to drop shot you wasn't perfect I mean I think Paul could have done much more on the approach but in the end kind of turning it into this cut and mouse Point helps output in Sea for sure so we have a match Dave's already answered Ellen's question in the chat what's the difference between the balls yeah the uh the men play with heavier balls um at the US Open they did try last year to play with the same the women didn't like it so they switched the women also don't like it when they play with different balls let's say that I think they're right actually balls and they both play the same why would they why why would they play with different balls I don't get that at all but um yeah I don't I don't fully get it either but like Yeah so basically if you want to take the most equal answer you give them both the regular the gut balls yeah no reason to do it but we do it for whatever um reason so yeah Asti famously hated these um these different balls for the women and um of course she has never progress I I I want to say has any of the US Open balls full stop to be honest maybe that as well but yeah she never went far at the US Open the only slum that she did not win indeed likely won't well at least in singles because I think she might have done it in doubles did she win every Slam in doubles maybe she def W the US Open I don't know how many slams she won in doubles off the top of my head but I do remember like being very much like yeah she's going to win the US Open in 2021 and well famously didn't was that the Shelby Rogers loss or yeah that's the Shelby Rogers lost okay Shelby of course retired this week so she gets a mention here for probably the best one of her career yeah it was definitely uh that was her one of our highlight moment as Peter's drop shot attempt goes into the net um slice for again from P she's trying to use she's she's definitely using the slice a lot more now trying to keep disrupting Pini they're into another long rally and yeah back hand netted by ptin love 30 yeah bini kind of does it very inconsistently like some points she's just almost pushing almost Moon balling but then on the other one you've got super heavy forand shots like this and well most of time it works so yeah actually the US Open was the only slam that party won in doubles um but she made a final in every single one of the in every single event there we go I did think she hadn't actually won that many but yeah that makes sense so she she does have a completes that yeah I think she made a lot of finals simply right yeah just had a very poor record yeah because she she she went one and five in finals so great great net shot for par but she's she's lobbed by Putin who gets the point 1530 and mov is serving for the the first four she made with Casey de Aqua right and Casey never won a slam despite going like 07 or something that in final ouch yeah brutal yeah that is that is pretty brutal zero and two J me Pini in Grand sem finals in the singles so hopefully she doesn't do a Del Aqua although even making seven finals would be just an astonishing achievement really I don't think we've got anyone in singles history who's made Seven Grand Slam fans and not one at least one of them in singles probably not yeah I I don't think either on the men or or the men's side or the women's side yeah no I don't think so I think Mary J Fernandez reached it was either Mary J Fernandez or um Helen Sova might have been both they reached four grand slam finals didn't win any of them yeah that sounds fair uh but um yeah 07 I don't think we have a record like this ever for anybody and also in doubles is kind of difficult because obviously Dak would do playing with different partners in those like two or three yeah um it's you can't really take that all on yourself really necessarily by it looks like if you had a horrible performance in the final you know you're so nervous maybe but yeah but that yeah you don't I don't think you necessarily lose Seven Grand s finals in the same way every time as po goes along with the 4and is 4035 ptin um Mah hatch is um I think Mah hatch just Ser for the first set 52 and got broken by gothan can Pini play like this on every Point like you know I don't know she just kind of turns it on on half the points it it was the same in that last game that she lost right when she was saving all these break points and suddenly her forehand was so heavy and precise and it's pretty much the same in this game half the point she's kind of in like I don't really have much in my game mode and half the points she's just completely overwhelming put in it I get the sense of like that's kind of Pini once she gets to a certain point right um but yeah like half like every match I've watched where it's got close and like l a um l d l ends of tournaments um you know it then completely comes down to the other half of the points where she's not absolutely going for it what's the opponent doing nuran Dian Schneider or lusan I don't think is a question that has any like you know know that we need to debate obviously it's the Russian as of right now yes and probably she does have the highest ceiling as well well not the highest ceiling but she has the more she's going to be more consistent than some she's GNA have more staying power yeah um anyway um let's see randomly turns it on on a break point as well or is it just when she's behind in a game um Muka has just sered and voied her way to the first set against poova thank you Anna heading for another grand time second week maybe and paulini has forehanded her way to another break against putina I mean the the the good points that she plays it looks like she should be crushing Julia it looks like that it should be a bagel but then again yeah she has also these like pretty inconspicuous ones but yeah anyway four to up so far yeah um and yeah again her dynamism is really helping her here as it does most of the time um maybe that's the difference you know maybe maybe that's why putina cannot get results like this yeah because her movement although she's got great touch and um obviously great skills with the racket her movement isn't as noticeably good as power is I think it's like relatively similar from the back of the court but yeah just getting energy out of it into her aggressive shots especially it's it's definitely not the same is Putin at the WTA Med for death terms of attitude and um approach not necessarily game style yeah sure I mean there is a bit of a correlation for sure there is there is there are some similarities yeah of course gonna play another also an Italian today and I think as well we've got Pini is the fifth seat and medv is the fifth seat so they are swapped there but koboi is the very first seed I think and put in the almost worked almost I I um when I was doing my bracket predictions and like how it was going to go and like I thought it would be a kabali medev third round um I really really wasn't sure whether to predict the upset for kabali beating medev pre- tournament and frankly I've have not seen anything from either of them to make me more sure in either direction I have gone with medf forev because it's New York but that's pretty much the only reason and maybe he'll be than kabali I mean I think right now you know you've got these like still you've got three favorites sen Med ver before they lose they're still going to be the top dogs but yeah kabi is tough it's it's the first really difficult match that Danel is going to have yeah the question is yeah whether it be like is it going to be like sebie cord US Open 20 22 when Med was defending the title as we got two break points for peda who's overwhelmed Pini again and pini's gone off the boy a little bit seie C Corda US Open 22 there's a match like this wrong wrong tournament because he beat medf in Australia austral yeah but that was like very expected at the time because Daniel was pretty much at an all-time low since he emerged in 2019 um as like a top player and also Corda was pretty much best form Ever great rescue from P there and P was frustrated she didn't get a racket on it like the forand working she just wasn't expecting it right I mean there there's re order she was like she felt comfortable she was like okay so she's not going to attack me from that position but well she did see how the second break point works out great first set from P just oh no she's missed it never mind just missed it I thought she just kissed the line but maybe yua put in is the Andre rublev of the WTA in terms of attitude maybe backand it dumped in the net by power were back on serve 34 um but I was going to ask like I can't remember who beat medev at the US Open in 2022 oh yeah I know uh Nick curios oh of course there's a reason why I've forgotten that yeah Danel beat iing wo in the third round said that iing is like a top 10 player to him then lost to hios Kos lost to HOV HOV lost to rud and rud lost to araras okay um speaking of losses we prom We teased this earlier we've got a few more viewers now let's talk about it Damen what is your reaction to the result from yesterday jokovic losing to paper in four sets taba I think I kind of called it before the event like not necessarily with poin but I remember just making a reference to that Jer uh match from last year where like Novak goes to set to L down and of course after that like the match just dies but uh I just basically said that I don't know if if after the Olympics he's going to have the hunger to like come back in a match like this like if if a scenario like this happens again and someone goes to set the up on him will he have the intensity the focus to to return and while he didn't as for just in general I mean I think there are a lot of similar points to what alcaras did I think they they looked very similar out there just a total deer in the headlights type of mode like I think the passion wasn't really there for either player we can kind of of course you know there's going to be a lot of theories regarding the Olympics and how there's a lot of surface switches and not much time to rest but both joov alas actually gave themselves a lot of time to rest after the Olympics I don't think they were that stressed or at least like maybe in terms of um well some other players like even poer erotic so guys that made these upsets they actually played a lot more recently and also went through the same surface switches so um it's it is some sort of a mental burnout I think it is a factor for both these big losses so far and yeah I think Novak especially by the fourth set he just well kind of didn't even want to be there he just started net rushing because he had no idea like really what to do so I I think they were there were just very similar losses in that the the passion the intensity the drive that they usually have both Carlos and Novak um with Carlos maybe it's just more a little like usually more extra vered and like yeah he's so animated he's so like playing with the crowd and stuff whereas Novak maybe you see it more in the focus in the determination like these things were totally missing for them and and yeah it's it's not easy to make a comeback like this I remember watching the first set from alcaras against bik and even when he broke back I was like Jesus he still has to win 15 games and he's like not even having fun out there and was kind of similar with Novak when he went to sets to look down unless poin just I don't know starts feeding him errors and and uh basically has a breakdown which of course was possible many players have done that against Pig seeds in the past um yeah it's just tough to see Noak suddenly win 18 games from there because it takes so much focus and just doesn't allow you any margin for error so I think these were very very similar losses and poting to his credit I mean he was working for this upset all year right in Australia he got close almost led to one and at won he got maybe a little less close but still it was a a bit of a dog fight so yeah uh kudos to him as well and I think some parts of his game that aren't usually maybe on the Forefront yes yesterday they were um clear very clearly exhibited like when Novak was yeah attacking him to the net for example how many brilliant passes poin was able to come up with or track down some you know drop volleys but but yeah it was just very lousy jovic very lousy alara's very similar matches I think there we go that's the take by the way we're at 30 all in this game and it does seem that these players between pitser and Pini are very much in each other's serves probably not a surprise given Ser is probably not their biggest weapon uh for them Great Rally that sloppiness from Pini where like she's playing half the points on 150% intensity and half the points like 50% intensity that's also like giving this much this Vibe right where like yeah it's it's up and down because it it cannot be any other way if she's if she's playing like this there we go um yeah and we've got break point yes it which which power we G get on this point is it going to be 150% or not um first she's GNA hope that she doesn't overplay this SEC this return on the second serve is coming for pet Zer obviously not going to be a done deal either way let's see second serve Parry goes for the forehand backhand ptin to the Parry forehand really short ptin goes for the F cross again that's short they both dropping the ball really short except for that one for PV which was very much uh long not enough spin on it and Pini is going to be serving at 53 we haven't had a service hold for a few games now I think it's like three or four games can power break the cycle and close the set I feel like this was the low intensity power but she still won it right I mean her foreheads were like a meter behind the net this time but that's well was enough in the end yeah it was like both of them were dropping it short and then P kind of tried to Loop it deep and overlo looped it um so the end didn't work um mahut looks like he's kind of racing with this match against gothan by the way 632 love mahut is one of these many many players in the M dra right now who will never get a better I mean will never maybe a stretch but like who have never had a shot like this to potentially make a semi at the US Open for example so um well it's a very open section now alcaraz is gone yeah and he's got a three zero lead on his likely round four opponent in the head-to-head J Draper okay for something I think if they play I will still treat it as like a 5050 but it's got to come for something does Dan avans having a three and0 head to head over deor make a difference [Music] probably not but I don't think he's out of the match completely and that's not because of that head to head yeah because for me I think that section is going to completely depend on uh how fit deor is at the minute I mean he's looked all right this tournament but judging by the scores I mean second round against V and utto had like a massive breakdown and he was 52 up in the first then he also had a lower back issue I think demon wasn't really pushed all that much besides the first set like the match was just literally Thompson hkat it was the same pattern uh hkat going five2 up in the first VI done going five to up losing a few games in a row second set they're like barely fit to play and then FD is suddenly a battle but like yeah it wasn't necessarily the most demanding match from from demon so yeah I don't really know where he is some like arnaldi I think just quality wise even play style wise could totally beat him it's just that recently when they played right in Australia Mato hit like 100 un first errors and wasn't able to keep it in the lines against a Defender like this which I think happens to him a lot actually so yeah I think he might struggle to beat Alex maybe Thompson would be a better opponent to kind of have anyone with a shot but yeah I mean the minor is still of course one of these players like totally can take advantage and has hasn't had a shot like this I mean even maybe making the final if someone upsets CER yeah because then it's kind of well that's down to like you know how C is against medf forev over best of five in New York to keep it in the lines Peter failed to do that and drops her Racket and frustration it's 30 all p is two points away from the set they into another rally the minut it going forehand to forehand P tries to change direction puts it in the tram line and drops the racket again again and it's 4030 set point Pini that Pini crosscourt forehand just like barely Landing right on the 153 points that's like well the most important point of this set maybe even and actually pet has hit the racket down so hard the back of the racket has fallen off it's rolling to the back of the Court yeah the I don't think she I don't think did she pick it up does she like repair if she has par celebrates as she's h returnable serve to close out the set 63 it was a tougher set than the score suggested but she's finally managed to hold serve again and she's up in the match which is tell of a messy one to be honest I like I was kind of reminds me you know that the Puttin roet there kind of reminds me because once um I threw my table tennis rocket at a banner and it kind of just like fell the you know the literally the the handle just fell apart in two and and actually I could play like this like the grip was a little weird but I could play like this I finished the match but yeah I I I I I still have that rocket somewhere actually because I just used glue to to repair it maybe puttina can also glue it back to her I think she' just probably change a racket to be honest and she's clearly not happy with that one yeah probably she's gonna do that I mean they have 12 rackets I didn't you know so um yeah and I'm just seeing the step score so the the unforced errors have been recorded as 16 for Putin saer and 13 for Pini maybe generous for both but maybe not uh that's about three or four games lost each to do to do to unforce erors which kind of makes sense actually um but Pini definitely showing she's got um a bigger uh sort of bigger weaponry and she's definitely out hitting putina when the full hand is working um so yeah there we go I don't know why we've oh there we go yeah um how hard is it to change your return position Nan is asking he he actually wants to talk about this a lot because IGA never changes it but I mean yeah if you're if you're e that this is your strength if you want to be aggressive like go for it right but I don't think it's particularly tough I think she could switch but like move backwards and try to hit bigger shots I just don't think it would be better for her really because then like if you're moving backwards you have to hit it super hard deep heavy and then it takes time to get back to the baceline and she wants to be glued to it so I don't know for some players it just doesn't really make sense for the most at least I don't change my return position unless my opponent is doing something really extreme like so by that I mean like I will I will select a return position based on the opponent uh they've got a big serve I'm going to stand further back I'm sure eag does the same um but um you know I've got somewhat but uh yeah if you or H but yeah unless someone really uh just sudden changes Mitch Match how they're serving there's no need to change um has I have I have been aced by underhanded serve no actually I've never actually I did try it and I picked it off yeah I've had people try it but I think getting a not really but the the easy explanation for that is that the amateur level at which both of us play like usually you're not going to be returning from the fence because the serves that are coming at you they aren't that fast so especially if like myself I I'm trying to return very deep inside the court there's no way that an opponent will underarm me and I won't get to it I might lose the point but I I will definitely get to it so um yeah and it's the same the other way really I don't think I've ever I might have aced someone underarm once but like that was just honestly he was probably you know thinking about whatever and just forgot he has to pay attention or something like that because again like even you know my serves opponents also won't be at defense right and yeah personally I I think there was maybe only like one match in my life where I changed my returning position because the opponent was like serving bombs and I had no idea what to do uh but after that I actually played the same guy many many times and you know when I got used to it I was fine and generally I just go for whatever supports my game rather than what the opponent at least with that uh rather than what the opponent has so like I I try to go for the style of returns that I know I prefer and will will help me to start points on my turn but yeah I mean if the opponent was going to be IO Carlovich I wouldn't try to return from inside the court so I think yeah it's all relative like if if IGA was like forced to against someone um then probably she would also move back but but yeah the idea is that she wants to kind of play the way that she uh is is made to and not really pay that much attention to the opposition um and I guess that's fine sometimes of course it's frust trading where she's playing someone like rakova here graa in the in Cincinnati right and it's just throwing every forand return out but at the same time she's still one of the best returners in the sport so yeah she is one of the best returners in the whole game like that's that's one of her biggest strengths and I think that's a good way of looking at it if a player wants to most Pros want to enforce their game on it and focus on what you're doing and not worry too much about what the other guy doing because if you're covered what you can do and do well you might as well just keep doing it so um yeah it depends on the play style I think if you're like a more tactician more of a tactician right more of a grindy player then maybe you have to pay attention more to what the opponent has but yeah I think fora if I remember correctly actually in one of the wars so 250s she was talking about this on one of the press conferences that like she she kind of changed that that approach or like viktorov changed that approach where they weren't really paying that much attention to the opponents tactically really from some point because they just yeah focused on her strengths and how she can kind of play regardless of what's happening on the other side and and yeah sometimes maybe it's a mistake I mean Rakim MOA match probably doesn't last as long in the opening round if she's I don't know to let's say half a meter backwards and just starting the point and just hitting more um composed but well guess there are pros and cons to everything uh she's not still not the most extreme like she's not still not Caroline Garcia no no one could be Caroline Garcia um by the way we still we've got a long opening game to this second set that Putin has just reached Advantage um with um Advantage yeah just to say speaking of people like who mix things up a lot Karen Muk is now a set double break 4-1 up on Anastasia potapova in on grand stand so Muka looking very good to make round four right now yeah as as you say Dave I mean big heavy body serves yes but you're not going to meet them at the amateur level so I think at the am like very low amateur level you can literally just return inside the Bas every single time and you're going to be fine and also brazy is asking if either of us ever hit a twer and actually want Point I've never hit a tweener like I've thought about once or twice but I've never but then I've thought better of it yeah I mean when chasing down a lob I never go for the twinner because the chance that I would like that that I would hit it is literally zero without any preparation uh I would probably just hit myself in the balls instead of hitting the ball honestly I've seen that happen to others uh so I never try it also I think I'm generally like probably quick enough to run around for the most part so I that that's I kind of just choose the you know the percentage play I've won a point after hitting a frontal twinner uh but that's that was much easier it was like close to the net so wrong ball Damian wrong ball um yeah as uh yeah we've got um game out she does power's forand finds the net so yeah this this match continues to be an absolute battle and yeah just like every shot as you say Dave it requires practice I think and I've I've never done that so so yeah I've never tried in a in a match in a in a practice match the only person I could think of who would practice tweeners would be Nick curios I think more players do or at least you know they don't do it on a regular basis but they do do it from time to time to keep himself in it I mean realistically like most of the matches these days have like at least one twinner right like I'm not saying a twinner that's going to go in but an attempt yeah so so yeah I think a lot more players than Yukio practice probably not every time like if you're doing just a 30 minute warmup obviously you're not going to practice that winner but I think they they do yeah I've just got like grief I can't I can't imagine a tweener drill that that that just sounds I mean probably just you know for fun at the end of the practice or something like that you know you you basically you're at the net someone is lobing you and you run hit once again once again yeah it's okay frontal twinner Al Pablo quas I don't think it was that exciting but it was so close to the net that I figured ah why not and I didn't hit it too clean but it it went in and it felt very very nice yeah I'm I'm just not brave enough to try it I don't have confidence in I have enough control with the racket to do it um if if you've never tried to hit like a hot dog winner you're not gonna come even close so yeah I I still prefer not to tryn I'm GNA do try get the ball back yeah I mean even even touching the ball like even you know actually hitting it is very tough you don't see it after all so Dr from par works there puta can't chase it down 30 love in this game yeah a very long game at the start from Putin sea but course parin is still on the front foot I mean she's definitely been like the more High seiling player in this mat oo I mean I I really want to praise her here uh but then again it's a net CT it's a pretty awful net Court uh I don't know I think we can still praise her a bit she did everything right and it's just a really a matter of luck that it bounced like this of the oh I've seen yeah yeah the the I do like the touch she had on the volley and maybe she lucky it came off the net so I think there's still a lot to praise her for here even though maybe the very finish of the point is yeah I mean you know I still think if P Pini can do can do uh P still probably the favorite to come through this section although I would be fascinated like looker is two points away from getting the job done by the look of it I'd be fascinated to see what a match between her and Muk would look like actually Puttin Muk would also be quite entertaining um there would because again I think Muka could probably move par around a little bit better um than most um maybe a bit more confidently um I think muted sa trying to out drop each shot at each other would be hilarious or M's net defense against P's Antics would be quite an interesting uh comparison great for tell from Pini there love 15 look has got Match Point by the look of it so keep an eye on what's happening there um we've also got mahat serving at 51 in the second for two sets Lev over gothan uh not much report from Ash in the minute in terms of score because it's still very very early and looks like Po is safe from mat Point got another R here drop shot ped Here Comes Pini picks it off there was a lot of height in that drop shot from P it wasn't great and she's giving p a chance here for 1530 we go first from pu P line forand into the net two break points for Pini 1540 and it does look like uh po stabilized a little bit maybe the more confident player out there right now um but let's see if she can put that confidence to good use and get this game still plenty of long rallies that could you know and anything to help pu to kind of build build some confidence I'm using that word again um will probably help her out she's missed the first serve second serve incoming from ulia ptin cver delivered out wide forand from p on the attack p goes back behind with the forehand but she's missed it and it's game Pini 2-1 she leads by setting a break yeah sorry I got lost for a moment I actually um very randomly bumped into that crey a on ja exchange oh is she but but yeah um yeah could have phrased it a bit better but like we know what she meant more or less I think the Shelton the Shelton quote recently as well was a bit iy about GF yeah uh mova um is going to serf for the match at 52 in the second um look like held they love this shot of that Puttin you know part of potina Racket just rolling on the ground they absolutely love it I've seen it 10 times already with the butt kind of rolling away as well yeah that was dramatic moment as uh yeah her rackets decided to throw it P to try and escape from her but yeah right now I would say um that uh Putin is a bit scrambled seems to be um like I know she a bundle of emotions a lot of the time uh but I don't think that's helping her um that's not being helpful right now it varies a lot um but yeah we have to see uh what's going on there as the players coming back out on court I'm just checking out the scores um it's not a lot going on looks like melar Martinez and Alam perz have just beaten Victoria goic and Tara Mo in the women's doubles and mahat does lead gothan by two sets to love 6361 does look like it's fairly straightforward for um mahat there Pula um hasn't broken bash Mana yet but it's still very early days and M two points away from the match as another over 4 okay what a philosophical question from Nan can you physically keep an eye on one thing and look at something else with the other one um but yeah thoughts Damian like are are we do you think putina is looking scrambled right now scrambled um I don't know I mean she she definitely is the player who today has had like just kind of less um positive attitude in terms of not her mental but like you know just Just Tennis like you know B is really cracking some of these forehand hitting pretty heavy when she lands them she's really bossing the points putina is kind of there on the court but like hasn't been imposing enough so yeah yeah yeah she's there but yeah you're right she's not really imposing herself in these rallies she's kind of trying to find ways of forcing an error from palini rather than trying to out hit her um yeah I don't think she's like really forcing errors out of PA for the most part right I mean well exactly yeah the errors she's getting have kind of been fortunate more than anything else and like P hitting very confident here in this rally moving Putin a side to side I mean this was really good because of that backend angle for putina eventually she still loses the point but yeah cuz she over she over plays the slice at the net pretty much with the whole cord wide open yeah pretty much yeah it was it was a good change up from ptin there but yeah app still reaches it still man to do something with it I think as you said like 30 40 minutes ago um Pini is probably not the type of player to be bothered by that sort of a game that's sort of like a tactical plan as Putin sea has today so um she she's been pretty dominant so far of course it's no it's nothing definite yet like it's nothing that Putin SAA can't possibly um work her way back from but and updating us um that MFA has put a really pressive performance as she yes she's through 64 62 against uh Anastasia potapova um so yeah great result from Muk and I'd love to hear your thoughts chat Elena Dave you know you're probably watching that match is p has gone long which gives power two game points um would uh do how do you think B will Faire against the winner of this match which will probably look like being Pini um oh next for M okay yes that's right yeah I think I went on a bit of a mumbly monologue about that earlier but yeah she um that is correct it she will be playing uh yeah M will be playing the winner of this match P HT for 3-1 yeah I was trying to I was trying to do that um sort of s of think about the answer to that noodle on question about physically keeping an eye on one thing and looking at something else but I don't think I can do it like I I can definitely look at something with the right eye and then with the left eye I still see what's happening there but I wouldn't be able to pay attention to it like I I see it with the corner of my eye but I don't you know so I think no probably and to Dave's question I am pretty much right sided on everything but I am um ambidextrous in terms of my feet I can play Shoot football um with both feet the same yeah I don't I don't really know to be honest I I'm right-handed and when I play football I'm right I prefer right footed but I think I just have more confidence in the right hand side of my body but I think when it comes to like my eyes or ears or whatever I can't tell the difference the eyes I think how you tell is that like if you don't think about it and you grab a gun or you look for a keyhole which eye you know you use that's kind of how you you test it with the eye hon ly I don't know about the ear it's the first time I've ever heard someone refer to some know refer to the ear in that discourse like I can't tell you if I'm right eared or left eared I don't know if that's a thing even to be honest but but yeah I think with the eyes you kind of that's how kind of how you test like if you if you were to look through a keyhole um what would you what would you do proba be the right and of course it can be very hard to tell if you like kind of do it on purpose and if if you start thinking about it then you're not going to be sure exactly Peter P was surprised that Peter's ball clipped the line uh which is interesting yeah Julia then going to clinch this game with a forand cross court winner so still just one break behind but definitely needs some sort of reaction quickly yeah because at the minute she's kind of relying on Pini underperforming to get her where she needs to go really at the minute seems to I think the M it very much feels like Pini is the uh uh the player who's going to decide the outcome of this unless put s find some way of changing it up dominant side of your mouth for chewing you're saying that's how you determine whether you're right eared or left eared I mean I I I I think I definitely chew with my right side and smoking uh I don't I'm not really sure probably right as well yeah maybe we just yeah maybe the yeah I don't know why why why our brains would make efforts to do everything with just the one side because we have two we have two sides but yeah I think I think a lot of mine sort of like makes sense with my general uh type of brain activity like I have a very developed left side of the brain and right side of the brain which is just you know you can throw it away and it would make no difference in terms of like you know the artistic manual skills Aesthetics and everything creativity even and um yeah just I'm like uber logical so um I think it makes sense for me we see Daman walking anticlockwise circles and Dave is left eyed right-handed left footed but other tone after tons of soccer almost the same for both feet have you ever tried throwing over arm with your weak arm no that's a laugh what's throwing over arm so you know so you know like if you're gonna throw a ball or something yeah I mean I would I would not be able to yeah no I I've done a couple times and gone oh why do I do that although having said that um I'm actually pretty like my my left arm my hand ey coordinates is still pretty good like I can still catch a tennis ball or something with my left hand oh yeah and like um a lot of people have issues um why why do I now uh struggle to Great winner from P there how do you call it when you um have a basketball ball and you walk around with it and oh dribbling no is dribbling really uh uh you know what I'm think I think I think that is a thing in basketball as well as soccer that's how it's called No but I mean like you know you just bounce it with your hand okay yeah because yeah dribbling impassive um you know what I mean yeah yeah I don't play basketball so I don't know I don't know how it's called in English anyway uh there's a lot of people who can't do it with their left hand literally uh and that's actually not a problem that's actually not a problem for me but yeah throwing something yeah I it just feels extremely unnatural even so I would we got we've got some good test going on this game like I've seen some great winners from both uh Putin and palini um going on here like P just hit a backhand winner up the line to keep this game relatively close at 30 all um and I think we're about to see Pini losing this point yeah that's land this yeah she doesn't okay it was very I mean it wasn't that close to the line on the close call but honestly I wasn't sure if she was going to make it or not yeah gonna be a break point for Putin sa and suddenly like it is called tribling really in oh yeah okay then I just never heard how it's called in English but um yeah in publish you have this word kovan which is kov which is yeah doing that with your hand and the ball in basketball and handball but um yeah dribbling I associate more with football definitely in like you know that sort of sense where you try to dribble past somebody oh yeah no I know what you mean but like just want to say that um Putin got a that cour that bounced back on her side meaning she loses the opportunity to break Pini here back to juice yeah but um looks like not to worry for the kazak as she's going to have more um again it's kind of back to the Pini forehand double-edged sword idea where yeah sometimes she's just very sloppy doesn't really even hit it clean and sometimes it's the best shot in the world yeah it's it's kind of you know that let her down that time let's see armr roof is closed as well John um both roofs are closed arm return Sur from Pini and P is literally stamping her feet another break point saved by the Italian uh spe breaks mahat is already a break up in the third against Goan seems well on his way no that's that's impressive I mean at Wimbledon it was such a tough match for him different conditions though right I mean I think it's uh um I think G Gan still pretty confident on grass isn't he super confident on like a pretty fast pretty pretty um what a slick hardcore he is so I don't think it's that big a difference maybe it's not like Mah was doing very well before this event either I mean he literally lost two Max per sell in Cincinatti oh brutal forehand from Pini to get the game point ADV Advantage there steps in that's a par special sort of over the shoulder forehand great work from P to go back behind petiner yeah we come back to the special for hands now special in what sense that's the question uh I mean the good one you know I was talking about the breakpoint save well not the breakpoint save the um Advantage she the point after she G gained Advantage yeah but now it's back to juice because she sliced her for hands trying to chase down a a shorter Cross Court from pitser um that I'll give her her dues on that one that was a tricky pickup that one maybe rushed it a little bit but she had to really kind of get underneath it and she was kind of forced to slice it given how quick it was dropping so yeah this is definitely not done yet like this is um this is still PR is making a proper Battle of it at the moment P serves up the middle back hand P the middle for hand power into the corner for hand cross cut from pushing P back and then P tries to go up the line with the forehand and she's got her hands on her head the rackets on the ground she's so frustrated that she's just and I mean just missed that shot like there was barely a gap between the line of the ball and like given pini's previous shot probably just clipped the Baseline like yeah that's uh very similar to the point we had in the first set as well except that one was more in the corner from palini so can how he Clos game out with the second serve middle of the box back on the attack from P back hand P to the back hand of p a crosscourt backhand exchanges slice to the P forehand crosscourt right in the corner still great angles there P overplays the forand it's out and it's back to juice this feels very like that game where power got broken it probably would have been the four I want to say not 43 because that was the game got broken it would have been uh maybe three all or 42 42 game for for Pini in the yeah I mean for she wouldn't get broken because she woned 63 but yeah I I know what you mean yeah I think it was a 4-2 game for Pini makes makes sense yeah but well this time she's going to be able to get out of this of course she missed that final forehand in that longer rally but she gets the ace here down the T 6342 up it's been a bit closer definitely the last 10 minutes but of course the most important thing is what's on the scoreboard and that's a lead for the fifth seed um uh okay so U but while we're waiting I mean you kind of went on you kind of gave us your thoughts on the up the kind of upsets from the last two night sessions um with joov J alcarez um and of course the poll at the minute is which of those were losses were more shocking and I think Shan's asking the question here as well and I don't think we've actually addressed it I think it's clearly Carlos right I don't think it's that I think yeah on balanced I'd say Carlos but given I predicted jovic to win the US Open it's pretty close for me yeah but I mean Novak had two very close matches with poin already bik hadn't done anything in ages that makes sense yeah I think it's big yeah also also in Straits yeah B and Straits is more shocking yeah because I also completely forgot about the poer match with jovic this year probably because I didn't watch them yeah like poin already had two tight battles with jov as I said earlier I was also kind of thinking well I don't know if Novak is going to be fully mentally engaged especially if there's some adversity coming up uh I mean turned out that his serving was also very poor week which of course we couldn't really predict uh but um I think with Carlos we just didn't really know that he's going to be totally mentally out of it I don't know just seemed like after Cincinnati he's not going to have another performance like this and maybe if he has it's going to come against a more dangerous player like swap them you know around and and Carlos plays poin and then I would think that yeah probably the the btic upset is still bigger yeah I think that's better way of looking at it's do with the opponents form more than who the players who lost are I I I think in this case yeah it's pretty much that also the fact that yeah we we weren't really I I think it was easier to expect a bit of a mental burnout from Novak than it was from car despite the Cincinnati exit and the loss to G yeah makes sense um I mean Carlos bik like when you were going to sleep that day like you woke up and you would have been absolutely shocked right I was in complete shock I genuinely screamed what at by uh phone when I saw it and jovic would would you have the same reaction I don't think so well I got a message about it so that was a different thing but yeah I think I I I don't think it would have been as strong but it would have been similar yeah but I mean it it wouldn't be like oh my God how did that happen you kind of like if you if you see that results joov poin you're like okay I mean I wasn't expecting it but I can see a way in which Alexi poin defeats Novak jovic at the US Open you know why not whereas with bik yeah it's it's just utter utter shock I was talking to John because we I had a stream just before that mat I don't remember where it was right now I think it was Osaka mova and Med Maran and John came on for like maybe the last five minutes or something like that and we were kind of just even laughing about the fact that B can potenti beat Carlos or something like that and he said that he was going to bed and you know he even laughed about this how how he was going to react when he wakes up whereas I watched it but I watched it up until like 42 in the third maybe 32 in the thir and then I fell asleep and I woke up like an hour and a half later and of course the first thing I did as you know as every tennis fan I checked the scores and I even though I watched most of that match I don't know I turned it on and I still couldn't believe it you know I was like it really ended like this like no I'm leaving in some sort of simulation you know I I think it's a very different shock factor in fact I I wasn't when I started responding to this question I wasn't even aware of how strongly I feel that the alara's upset was bigger okay well that's GNA help be helpful when you record eager and Carlos show with vanch um at some it will happen at some point yeah I don't know if we're going to do like a mid US Open episode but um well depends on how EA goes as well if she loses goes because yeah exact there there is there is obviously still potential for a third night session chaos result in a row um Julia ptin is getting a blister treated by the way um and you know we're talking a lot about BK he's actually coming out on court now to play Jack Draper um in um on a grand stand um thoughts on which way you think that's going to go Jack is obviously the big favorite I've had a Brit uh follower ask me today whether I think that Jack has any chance against bik and I'm like well he's a huge favorite what are you talking about but um yeah I wouldn't overreact to the btic um when over alcaras I mean even though he overperformed in terms of his form compared to the rest of the season it's not like he did anything you know groundbreaking in that much and I think Jack is just confidently the better player um not having struggled that much so far should help him out physically and also um Jack has a amazing record in New York right I mean for some reason even though it's humid even though it's hot every time he still does okay despite his ongoing physical limitations so yeah I don't know I I I definitely wouldn't just say Okay bik beat alcaras so he's going to beat Draper like of course it doesn't work like this and I think yeah he didn't really play all that well I was surprised to hear though poin saying that he doesn't think he played all that well against Novak I think if anything out of these two upsets probably poin performance was a bit more impressive than bics to me but well I think yeah he did because poin really was going poin pulled off some special moments in that match against jovic um as well like you could tell he was really kind of going for it and he was trying to unlock something something within himself um did papy play Cincinnati um yeah he lost to he lost to somebody was it no for some reason I wanted to say a very but not someone else I was I was pulling I was pulling a stat today on someone losing to a in Cincinnati was arnaldi maybe with poin I don't remember who he lost to in Cincinnati but he lost early yeah no I you know what we made a bit of a mistake on the stream yesterday um I think Jethro they were doing je throw mistakenly um said that poin won Cincinnati without fact obviously he won Montreal and I didn't correct him because in my mind he went yeah my brain just went yeah hard CAU 1,000 yeah he won that of course it happen yeah I got it mixed up with shich winning Cincinnati a couple of years oh g mon was the player he lost to oh M was playing quite well in Cincinnati as well do we have cran boogie in our chat no we don't because he would have been screaming g mon is drapes Draper nickname no no what's his nickname um I don't think he's got one I mean like James would know because James like James follows Jack a lot closer I remember someone trying to call him in a group chat uh sir Jack or something like that but it didn't really stick well no because he's not done anything worthy to be S Jack I mean you know in the future maybe I was I I I think sometimes in my head I I call him like I don't know like jocky boy or something like that but it's not really a nickname I would use in a tweet or it's not a nickname that I ever see um so yeah probably doesn't really have one please don't say big Jack or anything like that because I've already heard big Ben and big fo yesterday and I'm like ah and Jack's not as big compared to those two uh High twice oh he's tall he's deceptively tall he might be taller than both Shelton andfo in fact I would I would probably bet my money on it yeah he doesn't look it though like he had a he had a big physical development at some point I remember uh when I saw him live in like Helsinki or something like that maybe it was yeah Helsinki 2021 I think and I literally didn't recognize him on the in the corridor because in like half a year he grew so much in terms of just muscle but also I think even height at the time he would have been like what 18 19 so I think it was still maybe the end of his uh growth in that sense too uh but yeah he just became like a from a boy he became a monster that's the opposite of Pinocchio I guess or something like that very different story there uh Putin has gone a bit flat I think um quite a few errors there and uh P holds to love um and yeah pu Serv stay the match at 35 they change rackets for new balls yeah I think drapes it sounds Vaguely Familiar Dave it's possible but I don't think it's super common on like social media the former jovic half is full of players who have been trying to beat him huh so like rude or Zev or something like that yeah maybe makes sense yeah TFO because OB that's who they would have been playing to be honest with you the alcaras half probably has some players who are trying to beat him too like M especially oh R Ru is the jovic yeah R would be like one of those people like R be though right R doesn't have he doesn't have a horrible head-to-head record against him I mean mostly because they just didn't play all that haven't played all that much so but if you think about like how many times R runs to joov and I guess Taylor as well Taylor is the most important example actually uh what was your question rub keeps running into him at kep running into Grand Slams for a bit last couple years or so yeah yeah yeah that's true Ru and fr I guess are are the main examples and rude I suppose rud Alo beat him of course in Monte Carlo yeah there's definite cracks appearing in the jovic um jovic I don't know what you'd call it crack appearing in kind of jovic's uh hole well I think the hole over the tour's gone but um his standing starting to fail a little bit we've got uh two points away for Pini now I don't think the foot or um you know the issue that she was treated for is really huming Puttin all that much but but well getting closer to to the resolution of this match seemingly unless she can really find something right away she will get the game though so after the change over we're going to have Jas me Pini serving for the match serving to make round four did she also make round four in Australia I think she did right yeah she did yeah she lost to Callen Sky I think no it's going to be second week at every slam this year she can do it after probably not making any second weeks at the slam up until this year yeah so yeah in fact in fact before this year she was never in a grand third round even and then suddenly she's she's making second week she's making Grand St finals and she's knocking the door of part of um top four as thanks sha so I was right she did lose to can of Sky yeah because they she reversed in Dubai um so yeah they played about three times in three months first three months of the year um also Elena yes I think it is only deor from alcaraz's quarter who's made a quarterfinal before from the half obviously not H obviously medf Evans s in the top half uh but if you mean just his quarter then yeah um Alex deor is the only one in that group has made grandson called a FAL before who's left big opportunity coming up um including as you were saying earlier for uh Thomas mahut who is currently serving at 52 for the match but it's love 30 with gothan so but very simp to how the first set went by the look of it you know getting broken serving at 52 and P be serving for the match as well but but this time at 54 and uh things would get a little bit more dramatic if she got broken here compared to if mahat got broken by gotha we'll see how it goes P's got the first set 63 against bash Monero and japer and Van vanderson Club have just started short first set from palini got for hand on the middle and pet goes long on the band again pushing it too much 15 love and uh Jasmine P looking pretty good she looks focused dialed in she's talking to herself looking to get the job done first serve hits the hits the line and then Pat pu is hitting her back hand right to the P forehand still very safe P drops forand short Putin goes for the cross forand huge forand cross from p and again the redirect from pet does not work and 30 love pounding two points away from the match match point for Thomas mahat by the way yeah I was trying to read up something on that match like see what people are saying on social media some are saying that like um he's go is a bit fatigued I don't know I haven't seen a ball from that um P steps into the middle of the Court hits a forehand right at pini's forehand Pini wasn't expecting it to be that close to her and puts it in the net so 315 pet still making it hard for um Pini Less on the first surf mahaj fan just texted me that it it was an awesome performance but well the guy is a mahaj fan so I don't know if I trust him with his assessment yeah there's a difference between awesome performance and not really tested yeah it's if you're a fan you might not be able to see it yeah and and I think mahaj is his favorite player mahat is through 31 and two so uh yeah is that his first gr time fourth round um yeah I think so she he made Fair round at the French and in Australia this year and lost to no sorry lost to HOV and lost to medv yeah someone who's not going to be in their first round on fourth round is Jasmine Pini as putina goes wide with the slice forehand P big smile on her face as we have come to expect from the Italian and she is through she is going to play K and mov in what will be a very very fun match on Monday what a performance from Pini she's continued to make it through the tough section and proving herself to be one of the most consistent players on the WTA tour right now yeah I mean uh it's a crazy start that before this year she hadn't made made she hadn't been in a grand slam R three right and now she's made it to the second week at all four but also highlighted by the two finals and that's I think probably the best description really of her rise this year as well how good she's been in these big events consistently and it's not just you know because the draws have fallen apart like it yeah sure it's the Wild Wild West sometimes with the big seats being a little like rakina constantly sick um go um losing her form yes but like Pini is always the one who's stepping up to take these chances yeah she always is um I think you're right you know there isn't anyone else who's doing that in the same way Pula might have at one point um gagula was the Pini of 2023 kind of yeah h um schw I'm going to have to disagree with your comments saying that you that P's taking the big three possession from position away from reaka I don't agree and there's two re and there's a the main reason for that is one raka um isn't being held back by any kind of lack of ability but also her ceiling is much higher than poin like I would love to see Pini win a grand slam but she's gonna have to overcome some mighty matchup deficits if she has to get uh either either some mighty matchup deficits or um she has to uh basically hope the draw falls apart a little bit like what happened at Wimbledon but even then like Kika was playing so confidently um P was probably a little affected by how long her semi-final went and uh yeah Kika just put an awesome performance on the day yeah I mean p is upside wise she's not close to the top four she's probably also not close to Pula but she's kind of the best of the rest and I mean it in the best way possible um but I think I do agree with um I do agree with John at the minute that we are moving towards a top two on the WTA tour after this US Open shant sabalenka and gol isn't close rakina the only reason why she is close is that she is not healthy like literally you know we cannot punish her for her health I guess right like if there's someone winning 80% of their matches or more can we really say that she is out of it by now because she hasn't been healthy I don't know it's tough to say but I think when when she's played she's been excellent and I like if we look only at points for this year she's still like number two or three right three three in the race yeah yeah oh yeah because you're got over here I think with the with the Cincinnati run so or like maybe with Washington and Cincinnati but yeah I mean rakina still third in the race probably not third in the race for long because Pini is coming Pini with one more win although Pini will play mova so that's actually not easy uh that's a player that has more upside than Pini yeah I think uh yeah I think reaka okay I wouldn't put reaka uh in a top three as of the last few months but and by the last few months I think probably since Rand gas maybe Wimbledon um I mean she she hasn't played really since older down the semis at Wimbledon right I think you have to treat it as she's got she's she's not it's like someone being on sick CF at work yeah like we canot put her in the along with the top guns but like we still cannot really just force her down to like I don't know em manavar level for example she's definitely not there I would I would put I would take it out for now but that but I would definitely be reserving a spot for her to come back in um really quickly H what's the what's the poor scheduling with iakina I'm interested to know she she keeps playing the week before slams yeah there was this there was this adate appearance right or was it something like that right and then she was gonna play East born before Wimbledon um 500 to be honest yeah it's like the scheduling's not been a problem since she kept getting sick it's only in January where where I was I remember I was like well you just dominated Brisbane you got the best warm up possible why are you playing woman some discussion about whether she should have played Abu Dhabi before Doha but then she wouldn't have burned out in Dubai but that was still fine I mean she got 500 points in Abu Dhabi she got 600 or like more 650 right in Doha um I think I was still fine yeah I think the only like really we weird scheduling decision this year was playing adate after that it's kind of the standard really one grass appearance before Wimbledon and that's it she was also gonna play eastor um well if she really was then yes if she really was then yes yeah yeah she was she was on she was in the draw and everything the only reason she didn't was because she pulled out of Berlin with a problem and it was still affecting her but yeah she was due to play that would have been stupid with her Wimbledon chances yes I I I agree about that I mean I don't know maybe she would have pulled out at the end who knows I think Z was scheduled to play um what was it Kad or kids be for example after no sorry not not not that um stutgart after Ros and like he was in the draw actually but then he pulled out right so you know maybe she would have done the same I don't know uh but yeah paulini is someone who has been scheduling herself kind of normally and she's been doing extremely well basically in every single tournament she plays recently um of course there's some relatively early losses like second round in sinc but that's andreeva and um yeah it's tough to find the real like flaw in her season after Dubai other than maybe the Mayer Sheriff loss in Rome but otherwise she's just consistently great and consistently great in the big events as well yeah she really is um really sh out what it matters um in the doubles as well like she's been playing a lot of tennis that is working for her right now yeah when she lost at the Olympics earlier in singles she kind of made up for it right it's going to depend very what happens next is going to depend very much on how m is do we think that PA will have the same success next year two grand slam finals I think it's extremely unlikely yeah I think and that's nothing to do with her it's going to have to do with her Oppo opponents let's say Rebecca has stops being ill let's say Goff gets her mojo back or um I don't know Mira Andrea takes a huge next step or something like that plucking a name out there just just overall making two slam finals in a season is so tough right I mean you only have eight spots do we really think that two are going to be reserved every season for Jasmine Pini yeah I mean at wmon she was also so close to going out to Madison Keys get injured there and she's probably out think the only person he made so I think like last year the only person who made two St finals with sapena year before that were chaon canons yeah yeah but like that's pretty funny right I mean that that ja made Islam finals in the season as well and uh so probably could make another one but making another two but yeah two two St finals in the season that's very tricky to pull off have we had anyone this year so far I guess not um I mean other than paulini yeah sabalenka was close yeah sabalenka made yeah two slam finals last year Australia and us yeah we probably won't be John in 10 minutes but we will um well yeah I think I'm looking I'm looking to wrap up in a minute um for myself anyway um I think 10 minutes 10 minutes would be dragging it a bit too much for sure um although John was clearly desperate to talk to us sorry um some other time uh but yeah Draper started up a break on bansur but of course it's just the first set so not to freak out about it even especially as he has a break point to save and Pula is dominating buas Mano and that's kind of why I was just thinking well maybe the Shion night session is is good right because Pula no disrespect to buas mano but she has an easier opponent than I would agree with you I've been thinking the same like after this first sort of round of uh sort of matches for me the night session is where it's at for the singles action anyway um I guess I'm current I think in terms of like a match that's kind of technically day session that I think I'd be like huh yeah I can I'm kind of looking forward to seeing that would be boures menik but that's probably gonna start more like 10 p.m. my time yeah I actually really like um I mean Dio Paul if Gabrielle is close to Tommy then it's going to be good but I'm not don't really know if I buy it but I like that slot for the men's where it's arnaldi Thompson and bores manik but yeah I think it's not for like three hours probably so I think I might might actually go for a beer um uh now and then come back for that these matches but that was a very spontaneous idea I didn't have the plan hey look spontaneous beers are usually the best um well thanks for coming on Daman and uh well obviously thank you for suggesting doing this stream actually I think it was your idea this is the one you wanted to do in the first place so um and thanks for letting me kind of uh jump on with you so uh yeah it's been it's been fun watching um been a been an interesting match um straight set but there was a good chunk of it where like it was very Scrappy lots of uh good rallies either way weren't sure where it was going to go but once palini figured out how to not miss with her forehand it looked fairly inevitable yeah I think she definitely had the stronger level on patches was a little sloppy was a little up and down in terms of intensity but it didn't matter because she was on the front foot enough on the front foot and converting enough and yeah Puttin sea as we kind of said at some point I think she was just she was there she was on the court but she didn't really leave her Mark other than that um you know butt of the rocket rolling that was kind of the most exciting thing about Putin saa's appearance today which is a bit sad for her I guess but but yeah she she got outplayed today uh for sure she got out competed she got outplayed and I think the the deserved winner went through for sure moova Pini I think moova is the the better player but also the player who definitely has more question marks over her regardless kind of of the of the event with the health with generally just a less repeatable game maybe so yeah it should be fun it should be one of the best matches of round four I think I agree and that's the thing to look forward to as is all the tennis look forward to uh coming up um keep an eye on the channel um can't announce any streams coming up not because they're not happening because obviously we're going to see which matches people interested in watching um
