Benjamin Walker & Cynthia Addai-Robinson Talk The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2!

hi guys how are you good how are you how are you I'm doing great uh to start Ben the last time you and I spoke together we just yelled about musicals for about 40 minutes yeah um and you've got some great tattoos I do all my tattoos um it was really fun to then watch these screeners and get to see you actually sing in Lord of the Rings and so for you how was it combining those two sides of your career in something like this and getting to say uh surreal I mean first off like you um she's got this great American Psycho Tattoo um and like like but I have to say Patrick baitman and Gil galled have to sound different like the the part of the fun I I would hope so yeah exactly it's very different they sound exactly the same I'm really doing it wrong yeah but the the the what does an elf who's lived thousands of years who's singing this funeral durge about you know how ultimately we're going to leave Middle Earth to kill itself um what does that sound like and luckily I have the music of bear mccre to sing and the support of our uh voice of speech and dialect uh and also just tol Keen scholar her name is leth mcferson and she's works on the show in multiple capacities uh and she's brilliant and it it it it I mean it's surreal as Ben but as Ben at work uh it was almost effortless because I had so much support and um also about time if you know the books the elves won't stop singing I mean the wind blows in the trees and they're singing about it they see their reflection in a puddle guess what I want to do sing about it so it was about time ask ye shall receive I know it's about time that the elves sang a little um but no it was certainly one of those like you know top top five moments that happen in a career that's pretty cool yeah it's beyond cool rules and cynia you have like essentially granted it happened at the end of season one but for most of season one she is a completely kind of different person and then she loses her sight at the end and you go into season two having to kind of change your approach to a character how did did that affect you as an actor and looking at where she is when you guys started filming season two yeah it was interesting for me to sort of have the realization not that I didn't know this going in but you know once she's blinded at the end of season 1 there was that daunting task of oh my goodness well is season two going to be an entire season spent you know without vision and not not only what are the implications for Midel but what what are the implications for me in terms of performance and sort of you know how I was going to go about it but you realize that you know when you don't have the benefit of looking into your fellow actor's eyes as I would normally do it does shift something and you do have to rely on your other senses you know listening intently feeling the energy change in a situation or in the room and and you know at the end of uh or the in season one when she's blinded some of my first days on set were from episode seven of season one I started blind I started I started the work with a blindfold on and I remember sitting on a mountain as you do uh when you're filming a show like this with a blindfold on and realizing wow no one is coming up to me no one is engaging with me this is a very sort of closed cut off feeling and I and I retained that because I thought this is this is quite interesting actually that what those jerks bring you coffee and you're on the edge of a mountain oh we're gonna have a talk to production about talk to them were going through it they were like let her just be on the mountain side yeah she's a method yeah they were maybe being respectful but it did make me realize how it means that you have this entire inner world and sort of inner situation um so that that was definitely something that I I thought a lot about and also made sure that I never wanted medial to sort of be flailing about weakened to me she was still as strong as ever she still has to sort of complete the task ahead it's just that that now there is a new element to her situation so I I I love that the writer sort of you know created this aspect of her her journey and of course you know it was the first thing everyone all my friends at home like wait okay so she's blind like what happens now I don't know you know I don't I know what happens for this season and and and it was great to sort of you know kind of keep keep the audience and send my friends and family guessing as to what the end of season 2 is going to bring for her I cannot wait for everyone to see all the episodes I've at least seen of this season and see the rest of the show and thank you guys so much for talking with me today I really appreciate it thank you nice to see you again thank you have a great one
