strength you know we're going to really get a good idea of what his arm strength is and and how tight his rotation is when they flip directions here at the going in the second quarter third and three a pitch to scaboo heading left cuts it up he's got the first down inside the 20 down to the 16 yd line cam scabo with a 6-y pickup and an Arizona State first down with under a minute to go in the first quarter and another Cowboy player is down on the field and it appears to be one of their veteran defensive lineman Devon Harris a 64 235 lb grad student from Big Lake Minnesota yeah ceron harpool the transfer from San Diego State was blocking he was moving the defensive end out of the way and there was somebody right in front fell down right in front of the defensive end harpool kept blocking took him right over the defender kind of a high low within the course of the play but a good job by the tight end of keeping his feet moving not giving up on the Block Harris able to get up and walk off the field uh not needing as much assistance as uh the prior injured player for Wyoming offensive lineman Nathan guer but uh still a little uh little bit slow getting over to that sideline and uh understood after watching that play well it's hard you know when you're a you know 250lb man pushing you hard one way you're fighting him and all of a sudden somebody else is laying right at out of the back field and overthrows cam scabo his intended receiver yeah I'm not sure that that's the play I like on Third and 17 you can throw a slip screen maybe Stovall you know get it to somebody inside quicker um you know what though no harm no foul on that let's see what your field goal kicker can do it's good time for him to come on and what he'll get about a 37 yd attempt maybe 38 yeah pun Season tonight the problem is do we have enough time to fit in all the thrilling first half numbers that we could bring you here are some of them the sundevils who uh were minus 11 in turnovers last year only had nine takeaways All Season well they had two takeaways in the first two possessions of this game including a pick six by linebacker zyrus fiau on the second play of the season the sundevils only called for one first half penalty it was a delay of game conversely for Wyoming only three first downs in the first half of the Cowboys in six drives they averaged a mere five yards per drive and they have yet to get the ball into Arizona State territory the sundevils with their 27 points already have more points in one half of football tonight than they did in 10 of their games in 2023 and the Devils had two takeaways on the first two Wyoming possessions of tonight's game they did not get their second defensive takeaway last year until game seventh at Washington in mid October up from the secondary as a safety was great he and Shamari Simmons really form a nice Duo Rouser a leading tackler with four solo tackles kesan Elliott has four tackles as well and an interception return so I a lot of good lot of mean just spread it around right it's like Easter everybody gets an egg and it's like why MCA nowadays everybody gets an award profile nobody wins nobody loses everybody gets a medal that's right John hland is the place kicker for Wyoming and he's a very good kicker a semi-finalist for the grow award a couple years ago this his first appearance of the game as he kicks off to start the second half and uh melan stoval back deep to receive but he will let it go out of the end zone for a Touchback how about this Devils will take over at their 25 yeah but ASU they won the toss and they deferred and then they get the pick six touchdown out of it and they get the ball coming out of half so you know I think Kenny would have liked to have seen them finish the second quarter with points and then get the ball kind of do the old double up boy he was upset wasn't he he wanted that he was he's like good coaches are he's a perfectionist but in any event here we go with the second half and uh as uh Kevin Turner just said in my ear Jordan Tyson remember he had to go to the locker room the first half he is back on the field the second half as Sam L it rolls to his right throws downfield for Tyson but the pass incomplete along the far side of the field Tyson was being defended on the play by Wyoming quarterback keani Parks yeah good coverage by parks that time deep comeback route on the right side got three receivers two well two receivers in a tight end to the far side of the field right-handed quarterback rolls to the right good play you know it's a good miss right right near the sidelines away only potentially a chance for a great catch otherwise incomplete pass three receivers to the right on second down they'll hand it to scabo finds a hole up college he's a very articulate fell who wants to study in the kronite school in Arizona State and here's Jason Brown again finding a hole up the middle and working his way into Wyoming territory and into a blocker yeah you know be a lead Blocker in that scenario Jeff Sims has been an outstanding Rush in his career at Georgia Tech he ran for over 1100 yards in his three years with the yellow jackets here's a handoff to mcal they make the connection that time and Alton mccal picks up about two getting down to the 42 yd line before he gets dropped on that play of course the issue with Jeff Sims at both Georgia Tech and mainly last year at Nebraska just the turnovers last year at Nebraska he passed for 282 yds one touchdown but six in interceptions and had some turnover issues at Georgia Tech although in his career at Georgia Tech he threw for over 4400 yards and 30 scores I saw him play on TV a couple of times when he was young the sophomore year I thought he was he he kind of reminds you of a of a skinnier Dante c pepper he he's got a just an absolute hoer for an arm he sure does as here's another give to mcal but he gets knocked off his pins before he's able to get too far up up field on the play and uh that tackle was made by Cole demarzo a resered linebacker for Wyoming who uh transferred in from Michigan State and a young man who comes from a pretty nice Hometown here on defense you know get a chance to get out there and even though the game's out hand you're playing you're getting some reps and you got to defend ball is going to be right there inside the 10 it's a great first game for as Year too and I said all along I was so happy that they're not playing an FCS opponent this is a quality uh group of five team in Wyoming uh always a contender in the Mountain West coming off a nine win season a year ago and with a lot of returning players particularly on defense and returning almost their entire starting offensive line well and it's a team that has a tough schedule they're playing Arizona State BYU and Washington State yeah in their non-conference so kudos to them second and goal at the four hand off to Scott Sam Scott dropped at the three point here and he does with two seconds left and it makes it a 48-7 ball game in favor of Arizona State one thing uh I would like to make a plea to all sundevil fans who are at the game and are driving home we need you for the fulltime next week yeah come here be loud but plan on staying late CU after after the last two seasons wouldn't you want to soak up every bit of a game where your team is playing the way the Devils have played tonight I mean this is this has really been fun and it's going to get real fun next week with the SEC school here you know you got we need to be the reputation of we're Grinders that we're going to stay and we're going to be allow you know one one other uh we should get special prayers out I don't know if you guys saw ex sundevil and croner Del Soul wide receiver Ricky peera was shot in an accident a robbery attempt by a young Juvenile and unfortunately Ricky was shot the chess he's in stable condition in San Francisco first round draft pick by the 49ers this year just a horrible situation where a great kid and really got himself to he he he started to come on at Arizona State and then uh his time at Florida got him in the first round Seasons back to back the Devils put on a uh tour to force if you will this evening scoring on a pick six on the second play of the game that set the tone in Arizona State State routes longtime former Western Athletic Conference rival Wyoming 48-7 out gaining the Cowboys Jeff 499 yards to 118 27 first downs to just eight for Wyoming the Cowboys didn't get into ASU territory till the final possession of the game and didn't score until the final two seconds of the game what impressed you most tonight yeah I just think the aggressiveness from the defensive backs and in the defense in general I thought right from the beginning they were playing fast we talked about the word I kept using a lot was speed and fast and guys were decisive um and I think that's a lot of that's coaching they know where to go they're playing loose and they're playing aggressive so I really like that um levit really impressed me not with his throwing but with his feet and what I really liked is how he climbed the pocket vertically didn't try to escape out he was moving forward vertically his eyes were up we saw him throw once to the left we saw him keep it a couple of times that will bode well for him now I think Kitty's going to have a conversation with him hey that's great but week in and week out we don't want you rushing you know eight or nine 10 times he had eight carries for a net of 47 yards but if you add back into the sacks it puts them over 50 yards rushing so um you know a lot to be excited for a lot of great things it'll be fun to talk to coach Dillingham in the postgame show Sam Levitz passing numbers tonight 14 of 22 258 yards two touchdowns did not throw an interception and was sacked twice but as Jeff mentioned the rushing yards eight car carries for a net of 47 yards and that's still an average of almost 6 yards a carry even factoring in The Yards he lost on the two sacks uh the sundevils leading rusher tonight cam scabo had 11 carries 49 yards and a touchdown D congratulations on the win so many so many things to talk about what are some of the things that really stuck out to you impressed you most about your teams play tonight yeah we created takeaways we took care of the football we played really really hard but we played smart we didn't I mean there was a few penalties in there we got to clean up but we had no stupid penalties uh and uh that's what I was proud of you can play with hard you can play with a passion and uh we got we we pretty we played pretty clean football and we stopped the run this team runs uh statistically when they were held under 120 they they were 0 and 12 in the last three years over under 120 yards rushing and we held them to 40 yards rushing and uh that's a testament to those guys and how we've been practicing and how hard we've been working and couldn't be be more proud of that defense group yeah it's a program that ran the ball I think 61% of the time last year and even with a new coordinator you knew they were going to try to establish the Run game and your defense just didn't let him do it did they no I mean we talked about it all Camp all spring all fall that we got to be a tough football team and uh you have to practice tough you you can't just flip a switch and be good at something and these guys have put in the work they've been practicing hard uh offensively and defensively I mean we rushed for 241 yards tonight and held them to 40 that's a 200 yard difference for a team who runs the ball well and stops the Run well uh over the last 10 years of football and uh I couldn't be more proud of uh the big boys up front and uh our football team right now and I imagine you're proud of your freshman quarterback Sam levit for his performance tonight how would you size up Sam's play yeah you know the best thing he did was he didn't make the moment too big uh and when you're young when you're playing your first game he moved in the pocket well he didn't Panic he scrambled made some plays on the run to extend drives he didn't force the ball when he scrambled he could have but he didn't and it showed the composure of a guy who can win a lot of football games sorry because he kept us in good down in distances sometimes on those scrambles uh obviously a few learning things for him but I mean what a awesome way to start your career as a starting quarterback here at Arizona State and uh start some a career that I think is going to be a career that people remember coach when I was I was just watching the two quarterbacks during the game and and I was telling Tim I said you know I just really like how Lev's climbing the pocket vertically his eyes are up he's still looking to throw till he gets near the line of scrimmage and you know conversely Wyoming saot a couple of times tried to get out around the edge and just couldn't do it and as a result you took that that big sack um so kudos to him kudos for you guys coaching that way tell me about the uh headsets the communication how would you grade the new technology the use of the iPads how did that go for the first time yeah I thought it went well and we just get to watch the plays talk through it it's like you you B it's like the Whiteboard but you actually get to watch the live film and you're never wrong but both sides have it so I I don't know how much of an advantage it is if both sides have it uh it's just you don't have to be as good watching it live as you were helmet communication was awesome uh being able to talk to the quarterback and a defensive player uh was awesome now was only one player can only one coach that can talk to the quarterback or can you and only one guy can have the mic gotcha yeah game day is my easiest day it's kind of like my day off you guys certainly had a good one special teams look good I was telling Tim I you know these are the first games you want where you got a lot of guys that were able to get experience I saw you flop tackles you got a lot of young guys in and and then most importantly got out without an injury yeah I mean uh got out I mean fairly healthy which is nice uh and we did get to get some of the young guys in Jason Brown went in there and did a really nice job uh Pete I mean I don't know if you guys noticed that Pete we did catch that popped in and ran uh ran an outside zone for us our our Center Tim caught that uh ran in and ran an outside zone for us so that was nice we're just fired up for that family and he got that opportunity tonight now does that mean that all the offensive Lin are going to be politicking for for carries yeah they may be but they won't get them it's not a democracy yeah I mean this is it uh we're kind of a democracy but not when it comes to that Kenny The Joint should be hopping here next Saturday night you have a Southeastern Conference Team coming in in Mississippi State I know you're hoping for a great atmosphere uh just uh some thoughts on that game looming ahead for your team uh in week two yeah uh I don't quote me on this but I'm pretty confident Arizona State's never beaten uh a current SEC team or a team when they're in the SEC we've never won an SEC game uh I was told that the other day it's not the most credible Source uh it's a pretty good source uh but it's not the most credible so I feel like it's accurate so hopefully we can break that Trend and start the season on a really good note doing something that's never been done here a somewhat informed Source has told wait a minute so I got a millennial coach all of a sudden now is trying to Source everything and not going with it the source was Doug Tamaro okay you got to take it with a me he's actually a pretty good source in that type of situation but I didn't want to put him on blast in case he was wrong I was trying to protect no we um it was a it was a great play about a a collective unit um I think it was just a great play call and you know I seen it I just hit it and go you made some you had some moments last year but how good did it feel what was the feeling like when you got into the end zone for your first Collegiate touchdown man it felt so good getting in that Endzone you know um I actually uh said something to Watt uh Justin Watley um I see I seen him score on the scooping score and I was like man how you get one before me so I said I gotta I got to get in there now so it was it felt good to get in there you know get in the endzone again for sure and tell me your thoughts on Sam lit's play tonight pretty impressive for a red shirt freshman in his first ever start to do what he did what was your take on his man I think I'm proud of Sam um the moment wasn't too big for him he he showed that he was cool and Collective and he showed that he could run this offense so I'm proud of him um he's played good all all spring all I mean all summer he's been you know who he's shown so I think he was able to Showcase that you know he was able to lead this team that was interesting uh you said that because that's the exact same thing Kenny Dillingham said I think the first thing he thought of the moment wasn't too big for Sam that bodess well for his future doesn't it how do how do you see him growing into this job man I just um Sam you know he has a lot of great characteristics about him and I just I see him growing more as a more as a leader on this team I mean he's young and I think uh that allows him to uh grow more and be the the guy he is so I think just you know him getting comfortable you know settling in into the seat I think that plays a lot you know of you know his first game yeah I'll bet what was it like we all know that last year your team uh defensively was not able to come up with a lot of takeaways to get a pick six on the second play of the Season zyrus F what's going on in the sideline when you're watching that un man um I mean I I I can say that we we we expected it but I mean it kind of wasn't expected on the second play but zyrus has been playing light out all you know all uh all summer um he he does that numerous amount of times a fall Camp I don't know how many picks he had but I mean we've seen that before from him so it wasn't surprising to see him catch that pick but second game uh as a offense you know we we all on the field jumping up seeing them scor for you know I think it was a great a great start to the game he got us start with our heads on fire so I think that was great for for for Z no question that was that was a tone Setter and uh watching you guys in Fall practice I have had the sense all along that you guys could not wait for tonight because you really wanted to show what you could do as a team uh and to prove the naysayers you picked the El last in the Big 12 uh that they're they're wrong how did you feel about that what what did you sense was your team's mindset coming into this game um I just think it was great for us to get on that field and just you know finally get to hit somebody else I mean we we've channeled all the negative the negative talk all the naysayers all the you know and we just use that as fuel you know we we we just wanted to show that we a totally different team that's coming in with a totally different mindset and I think that we were able to show cpses of that tonight but it's far from you know our Peak and I think we showed that tonight that we're not we're not that 0 and 12 team or three and behind Team or whatever they say we're not none of that so I think uh it was just good getting out on the field with the guys man seeing everybody smile seeing everybody you know you worked so hard during the offseason it's been a long long seven months and I think it's good to see you know a lot of those guys you know get the the moments that they've been waiting for and a lot of the transfer guys you know to be happy again so I think it's just seeing that it just allows our Brotherhood to grow and how cool is it that you get to take this momentum into a week 2 game against an SC DC opponent coming in here next week I think uh it's cool it's cooler for me because I'm from Mississippi I'm to Bel Mississippi so um I get to play against a lot of guys that I know from you know around the way so I think it's going to be a good little a good little game for me and I think it's good that you know we have this momentum leaning up into you know a big game so I think uh we got to touchdown with two seconds to go and this is sundevil sound off along with Kevin Turner and Sean crestman Jeff mun and Arizona State 48-7 victory over Wyoming and let's go back in time to about 6:25 this evening when we got Kevin Turner's keys to the game and Kevin what were they well number one it was quarterback had a possess the football check quarterback had to go through his progressions check he had to keep it boring check down yeah right I because I I I did call up here to Van rapor I said are you sure you want your quarterback in the first game running as aggressively as he is yeah and then I said the offensive line had to sustain their run blocks check protect the quarterback check then on the defensive side I said they have got to create the focus should be 100% on turnovers boom boom boom three three turnovers the thing that uh just thinking about levit night there were a number of instances I mentioned this at halftime where he got hit and hit hard whether it was a running play where he took off or that one personal foul penalty in the second quarter and especially on that play I held my breath I thought get up Sam get up get up and every time got to this guy's tough yeah well you think about what coach Joe Connelly and that strength staff did they really got after it and you could see on the sidelines the difference between last year's team and this year's team number one they weren't they didn't look like they were working as hard when they came off after a after a drive you can see the the tonality of the and their and their body makeup and the loss of body fat and you look at their flexibility and I'll use cam scabo as exhibit a he got twisted up three or four times and I'm like oh my God it looked like he might be going to the hospital and he's like Gumby he just bounces right back up he's absolutely one of the most flexible hard charging you know three yards in a cloud of dust running backs that that I've seen in a long time but he's got the other thing that he has that a lot of other backs don't have because of his center of gravity he's got great contact balance so he's hit he spins he fights he's always getting two three four yards after it looks like he's dead to rights and so that's what that's what impresses me most about him is his desire to sell out every time he gets hit yeah and I had a chance to engage him a couple times during practice had a smile on it last year he had a scowl it seemed like a a scowl every time I talk to him this year he's got an earto ear grin it looks like he's enjoying it he's having fun with it I think he's totally bought into this Kenny Dillingham process well I mean I don't know he's like old man get away from me what do you got for me no he's he definitely got a smile on his face and he had an earto ear grin I don't know if you guys saw on the big screen in between a timeout there was a young man that they had up and he was a yo-yo expert and scbo was getting the biggest uh kick out of that uh thing up on the on the diamond Vision it was a lot of fun to see him with that again ear to ear grin but I just thought this was one of the cleanest games I've seen any football team play in a long time we talked about playing with poise and discipline tonight was all about Poise and discipline exactly I I would agree it it and it seemed like anything ASU wanted to do offensively they did it seemed like every you know Sam did go through his progressions but wherever he was throwing the ball that receiver was open and they were getting chunks of yardage we talked about this in the pregame as well more of an emphasis on vertical passing as opposed to just throwing to the sidelines and getting somebody out in space and it just I was just so impressed because this is a Wyoming we talked about this in the pregame they won nine games last year went to a bowl game so it's not like they were beating up on a weak opponent and they just had everything that they wanted offensively yeah and I think it all it all started and I talked to Kenny about it at halftime was just what I saw on in the first half was one word physicality these guys were flying around with bad intentions on the defensive side of the football especially in the secondary right k was these guys came to play and they fall out tonight yeah just an impressive uh Victory all the way around let's get you a phone part that really kind of jumps out at you in in terms of I mean a lot of things but especially just how he stayed so composed even as I said he got hit several times yeah and the discipline not thrown to a question mark the one thing that I thought we'd see tonight was more success down the field with some of the deep balls he missed a couple of them tonight and that would be the only negative grade on Sam tonight was he missed a couple of of makeable deep balls I but I guess I look at it and we're back on sundevil soundof Jeff mun Kevin Turner and Sean kesman ASU beats Wyoming 48 to7 I the way to me just like I said the mere fact that they threw the ball downfield misfiring overthrowing that'll get fixed I'm just glad they're doing it 100% I I would say there's two things that you can you can get into that with that KT is one uh last year there really wasn't the ability to go deep in a lot of ways sometimes s you struggled to get separation on the outside even when you had you know single high and man coverage and you couldn't get separation at the wide out position and then if we're being we're being fair at at times it looked like it was a struggle to throw the ball deep to the field side with the quarterback situation they had last year so you have the ability to stretch the field this season and Kenny told us in in uh in Sparky's Den and then in a few other interviews throughout the week they want to stretch the field so I think you're going to see a lot of that this year yeah and and I guess the only thing uh as I say the the only area of concern and it's not really about levit but there was a a decent amount of pressure on him on several occasions he got out of it he escaped it uh that goes back to the offensive line I you know KT as you pointed out the offensive line did a really good job creating opportunities for the running game uh and they're going to be nights when teams are blitzing they're sending more than four guys they're going to get get in there on the quarterback so I'm not necessarily saying oh gee the offensive line has a problem to fix but yeah you don't want to see Sam levit too often with a lot of guys in the other team's uniforms surrounding him as he's trying to throw the football yeah I I agree with that and I think you can make adjustments with your your personnel packaging and have additional pass protection rather than going empty or single back you can go double back or you can motion into a pass protection so I don't think they were too concerned about the Wyoming pass rush as much as they were about their ability to to manage in coverage because that's where they had the experience Wyoming had some pretty good defensive backs that were decent coverage and decent tacklers but I think we just overwhelmed them you know from a physical standpoint we were bigger stronger faster and the better team took control of the game early on and and and Tim got to say it real early on fiia picked off the pass it was a nice pick six clean jumped the route um I think the quarterback was seeing some ghost there because I saw a receiver wide open the next thing I saw from the field level was just couldn't have been more impressed because again you're talking about a team number one they're very effective at running the football football that's what they wanted to do and once ASU got out to the kind of lead they had they had to kind of abandon that whole idea and stick to the air and ASU as we said they didn't give up a touchdown till two seconds to go right and then equally as impressive was the pressure on the quarterback and then the five tackles for loss behind the line of scrimmage in the running game three sacks so complete team defense tonight excellence and execution from the back end to the front end to the edge rushers the middle linebackers I mean you couldn't have have drawn up and and asked for a better outcome than what that defense did tonight any concerns for you guys about the place kicking situation because I know it was kind of tenuous going into the season how they were going to handle things uh I you want you want to get more of a sample size I mean you got you saw what two what were you two out of three with your primary kicker tonight you gave you gave the the younger The Freshman a shot to to kick one as well and it wasn't even close it was wide left in the fourth quarter but I mean yeah you'd be lying if you said that wasn't something that you you're not 100% comfortable with at this point right and you get into a close ball game in late in the second half and you want to be able to rely on your place kicker but yeah I mean as of right now I it's not necessarily something I'd call a strength uh it's still kind of up in the air and we don't really have a judgment on the punting game either because it just wasn't it didn't wasn't a fact you had to punt twice you know and only one of them was in your your end of the field where you really had to get a hold of it so yeah you you didn't see a lot of that either but uh I'd call that a good problem I was really I was really impressed with melan stovall's ability to field some really nasty punts tonight and had had a couple of really nice returns do something with him I have a lot of confidence with him back there uh returning kicks and and that's uh that's not an easy thing to do on a windy night toh catch a punt that doesn't turn over a couple of those were tail draggers and those really move away from you so you've got to adjust very quickly and get underneath it otherwise you know it hits your face mask and there's a loose ball in the turf and bad things can happen after that yeah but they didn't not too many bad things happen tonight as ASU wins at 48 to7 heila River comment about The Fan Experience and uh you're right and I tell you the other thing just a a closing thought on that subject athletic directors don't normally you don't really associate them with being heavily involved in The Fan Experience but keep one thing in mind uh Graham spent I believe it was about 10 11 years working as a vice president over the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Diamondbacks obviously have really emphas ized The Fan Experience everything from the value menu to all the other things that they do and it's very obvious that Graham has brought a lot of the lessons he learned there here uh to ASU Athletics I'm I'm very anxious to see what he brings to uh basketball games at Desert Financial he and I have talked uh off off the air a number of times about some of the things that he wanted to do at baseball a couple of years ago and I I think now that he's uh in charge of the athletic department I'll be very curious to see uh what what things he offers fans at all of the venues not just Mountain America Stadium but soccer stadium mullet Arena all the places where fans gather and uh it's it's really refreshing to see a an athletic director who obviously has an awful lot on his PL just running programs be concerned with the fan experience as well yeah there's two types of managers in in Corporate America th those that are focused 100% on profit where they they raise prices and and they try to cut corners and there's the other side the supply side where they they reduce prices and increase Opex think of a place like Disneyland they they don't have the operating margins I'm sure that the neighbor has at not Berry Farm because they spend a lot more money on keeping the park clean all about the details all about making it a great Fan Experience lower pricing all sorts of of special packages where Cedar Fair may be on the other side of the Ledger they may be looking at hey let's just look at profit so what are we going to do we're going to cut Corners we're not going to spend as much on Opex and taking care of deferred maintenance and we're going to raise prices so they're more Topline where I think Graham looks at the fan and says what's in what's the best for the fan and then the top side the supply side when you get more butts in the seats that that takes that works out that equilibrium where where price and demand intersect and you've got a nice Fan Experience and everybody wins yeah and Disneyland has been the template for a lot of pro teams in sports as to here's how we treat fans look at the way Disneyland does it and you bring that up as an example and I can tell you there I worked for teams in the past that that's something they looked at they trained their employees here's the way you need to do this the way Disneyland does it um let's get into our Turning Point Drive of the game and I'm and I'm giggling a little bit because you barely had enough time to get in your seat before the turning point of the game occurred very early in the first quarter well yeah it was the it was the pick six right away in the second play the pick six on the second play is what is where the turning point was because it set the tone it set the tone right away way after the game right as the game started set the tone sundevils were going to be a physical team on defense they were flying around the football you get the pick six and next thing you know if you're Wyoming you know they were backed up against the student section which was absolutely phenomenal to start the game tonight the student section was absolutely phenomenal that was what I was going to and so you had you had this almost this this quicksand effect that hit Wyoming from the get-go and it all started with the Pix six I I do want to take a moment to talk about the crowd and particularly the student section when we get done with the the pregame show they we're literally right up at kickoff so a lot of times I'll take the Concourse around to the South side which is where the student section is and you know most nights you're working your way through a lot of just bodies getting to the other side of the stadium get up the elevator come up the Press Box when I came out tonight for one thing uh one of the uh one of the ticket takers at the sandang club said you probably shouldn't go that way it's not a good idea it was absolute gridlock and I'm not saying that as a negative it was a positive to have that many students out so for the first time since I took this job I had to go the other way so I'm underneath the stands on the the overhang on the North End Zone when the pick six occurs and immediately my mind starts racing okay when was the last time we scored a minute into the season opener and probably the answer is never uh and that's why I say it just really felt like you know this is a wide receiver when a guy in in game one a minute in can jump a route and get an interception and take it back for a touchdown that that says to me as an amateur he did his homework watched the film and he anticipated and that's on opening day that's not that easy to do 100% And you know whether he baited him or whether he you know did exactly what he was told to do and he was in the right place the right time it was an athletic play and really ignited this stadium and it it just what a wonderful way to start the 2024 season yeah with something so electrifying and putting your opponent right on the on the precipice of of their heels right out of the get-go and I I was I mean I had goosebumps and the hair came up on my arms I wow what a way to start the season 13,690 students second second all time that's right the second largest I think that's what made it cuz it went right into and that's what I'm saying right into the M that was the turning point of the game I know it's crazy to say that there was like 14 minutes and 20 seconds left in the first quarter but that absolutely set the tone for the game and then you had another interception and another score and all of a sudden you're up two scores a few minutes into this football game and that that student section was going crazy it was quicksand yeah you know it was it it was quicksand for Wyoming it was you you can even go back to the first play I can't remember the linebacker that shot the Gap KT and just put a lick on the running back and then you pick him off for the pick six on the second play and the tone was set and so it's crazy to do the Toyota Turning Point Drive of the game on the second play of the game right but it really was the tone Setter for this entire football game and rapper said it four or five times throughout the night that's the most physical he has seen at sundevils defense in a long time primarily in the secondary and it started from the first play so I don't think it's crazy to say to say the first drive of the game was the turning point cuz it really was and that was my comment to Kenny at halftime I just said what what pops off the page to me is the physicality yeah and it it was it was electrifying that one play by itself Turning Point Drive of the game presented by your Valley Toyota dealers Let's Go Places I'll say one other thing uh and Sean and I have been through this a lot you've been through it a couple of times in in the time years you've been with us ASU traditionally the last several years has opened uh they always open at home but they decided to start playing it on the Thursday going into Labor Day weekend and the thinking was nobody's in town over Labor Day weekend everybody goes up north to get out of the heat so we don't want to try to do it on labor on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend well obviously they did that tonight and I was so impressed with just the amount of people that were here also when you take into consideration that down the street they drew 50,000 at Chase Field tonight so we got a close to a Full House here there was some decent competition about five miles from here and it's Saturday a Labor Day weekend so a shout out to the fans for showing up yeah there's nothing wrong with having two or three great restaurants you know walking distance from one another yeah I think you know all all you know High Tides raise you know the the ship's attitude and you know with the what's going on in major league baseball right now and and what's Happening Here on campus and with graham Rini coming in there's just there's there
