Business Leaders and sporting stars are backing a proposal to build a privately funded Stadium on the Brisbane River as part of a $6 billion Olympics precinct for the 2032 games Queens down reporter Harry Clark joins us live Harry good afternoon to you tell us who is supporting the idea good afternoon Janny well one of the sporting Stars commenting in the Sunday mail today supporting this idea is perhaps one of our most uh celebrated Olympians in St Bradbury as well as cricketing Legend uh Alan border and one of our newly crowned gold medalists uh that's lannie pister who won a gold medal in the swimming at Paris this proposal was put forward by the Brisbane design Alliance it's a Consortium which comprises some of the world's leading Architects and they believe there is potential to build a brand new stadium at the cost of $6 billion and put it up on the Brisbane Northshore around Hamilton this uh pre design including 2500 Apartments as well as an Olympic Village and uh dining and shopping precincts and they believe that it could be privately funded in a similar way to perth's op the stadium which is 60% owned by the government uh also supporting this idea is Brisbane Entertainment Mogul Harvey Listia and Luke Fraser who is the CEO of the Howard Smith Wars the government though is pressing ahead with its plan to redevelop the aging and dilapidated QE2 Stadium out at Nathan on Brisbane Southside here's St miles commenting on this matter today I think it's highly unlikely that you could build this Stadium using private funds it would require a very significant investment of State taxpayer dollars and resources uh but it's very preliminary from what I can tell the only details I've seen are the drawings in the paper uh so we'll look forward to them bringing forward uh new ideas as for the opposition well uh David Chris Foy the LMP leader he said that there will be a 100 day review of all Olympics options uh within 100 days of uh the election if the LMP does indeed for form government so the LMP has been non-committal on the Brisbane Stadium uh Saga as well um and uh yeah that 100 day review has already been carried out by uh a a group led by former Lord mayor briam Quirk and that's where that proposal Janie came from for a new stadium to be built at Victoria Park all right how Cloud thank you very much for the update live in brisban
