Hunter Biden has pleaded guilty to all nine charges in his federal tax evasion case catching prosecutors off guard just as they were ready to start his trial on Thursday the son of President Joe Biden had previously denied intentionally evading $1.4 million in taxes between 2016 and 2019 initially Biden 54 planned to enter an Alfred plea admitting the charges while maintaining his innocence but switched to a straightforward guilty plea after prosec UT objected once the prosecution read the entire 56-page indictment in court the judge asked Biden if he agreed that he had committed each element of the crimes charged to which he replied I do this unexpected plea announced just before jury selection began in Los Angeles is Biden's second criminal conviction this year his attorney AB LEL explained that Biden opted to avoid a trial to protect his family from having to testify about events that occurred during his struggle with drug addiction judge Mark scari stated that pleading guilty to all nine counts could result in up to 15 years in prison along with fines between $500,000 and $1 million Biden is set to be sentenced on December 16th just after the presidential election but before his father's term ends President Biden has already said he will not use his executive power to Pardon his son as Biden entered the courthouse accompanied by his wife lawyers and Secret Service agents he walked past a portrait of his father which hangs in every Federal Courthouse prosecutors led by Leo wise expressed surprise at Biden's initial intention to submit an Alfred plea which would have allowed him to plead guilty while claiming innocence wise stated firmly Hunter Biden Is Not Innocent Hunter Biden is guilty we came to court to try this case Biden had previously sought to dismiss the case arguing that the Department of Justice was targeting him for political reasons to damage his father's presidency but judge scari appointed by Donald Trump rejected those arguments the charges included three felony tax violations and six misdemeanors including failure to file and pay taxes tax evasion and submitting a false return according to the indictment Biden earned $7 million from foreign business deals between 2016 and 2019 but spent nearly $5 million on personal expenses such as drugs escorts luxury goods and other non-b business related purchases which were falsely claimed as business deductions prosecutors argued that Biden had the means to pay his taxes each year but deliberately chose not to engaging in what they called a four-year scheme this tax evasion trial follows an earlier conviction in June when Biden was found guilty on gun-related charges for purchasing a firearm while addicted to drugs and lying on a Federal Form to do so although Biden initially struck a plea deal it fell apart and he he received no concessions for pleading guilty other than avoiding a public trial
