the noon hour is here check it out and you're locked on to Utah's highest rated most listened to sports radio station it's my station it's my station this is H ssen and Scotty G on 975 the KSL Sports Z [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Hanson Scotty 975 the KSL Sports Zone hey we hit hump day folks Wednesday is here college football's just around the corner and uh we got another funfilled show for you today three days away from some actual college football let's go you get to see the Florida state seminal in action what were they preseason ranked 10 or 11 or 12 or something uh that's a good question they're up there but you get to see Florida State open up their season against Georgia Tech so that's not a bad match up no that's going to be decent at least you'll get a a view of some of the top in this in this country with Florida State they are preseason rank pretty high aren't they I'm just pulling up the rankings right now Florida state is 10th in both polls okay the coaches and the AP good so good job so Florida State's going to be a a big deal this year I think they're going to be a big deal this year and who gave I'm just looking at the uh the AP Top 25 Poll somebody gave Colorado a vote no in in uh in in other is receiving votes Colorado has a vote who did that shame on you gotta find him and take that away from him yeah um hey by the way boyy State and SMU are right there too yeah uh boisey States just on the outside looking in and SMU you're right right there behind him um by the way uh I was looking I'm just looking at the so ESPN has the AP the coaches and then they have the FCS coaches poll uhhuh guess he was 11th in the FCS coaches or FCS coaches poll okay just so everybody's familiar with this the FCS is onea it is onea so it's division one FCS yep same with Southern Utah Weber State yep and you asking me that makes me think that that would be probably Southern Illinois Southern Illinois checking in at number 11 uh that seems probably high because they chicked in at number four in their own conference so that might be that might be just a little bit high for them I I don't maybe there's something that I don't know in that whole thing I wonder if they're are they in that same conference with South Dakota State and North Dakota because they're number one and number two and then South Dakota is number three or number five so that that might hold it just might be a really topheavy conference well they're in the mvcf fs yeah Missouri Valley yeah yeah so that would be South Dakota State North Dakota yeah and South Dakota so yeah they're still fourth in the top 25 in their conference it's just three teams are in the top 10 um Southern Illinois is an interesting study because they've they've lost everything yeah they're trying to rebuild everything so Southern Illinois they lost their quarterback Nick Baker and Nick Baker had set pretty much every record at Southern Illinois they lost their number one and number two running backs Ro Elliott and Justin strong they lost their number one wide receiver they're number two wide receivers coming back but that's it Scotty W they've lost their offense look at this Saluki talk right out of the break oh God I'm sorry this just tells you how desperate we are I love it man I love it for football but but it's relevant because they they're showing up in the top 25 FCS poll I mean top top 11 by the way Alex Kiri said uh just texted into us we looked up that one Colorado vote it's Mike Hill from Fox I remember Mike Hill he was a ESPN sports center guy and now he's with Fox Los Angeles so there you go and he went with Colorado yeah as a top 25 team yep that's where the one vote came from uh also checking in on the good job by JJ and Alex digging that up because yeah that guy deserves to get clowned for sure yeah he does checking in on the top 25 um those receiving votes two other Big 12 teams in Iowa State West Virginia the big 12's represented it's just not represented in the top 10 the highest you're finding is it is a number 12 ranking from the University of Utah yeah but we've got so many things that we're going to get into today I'm I broke down both the BYU and Utah schedules and I found a couple of really interesting things that I want to get into at some point in the show today because not all schedules are built equal no no no no no and it it's a little bit more deep than even I had originally thought on these two schedules and what direction they're headed so we'll jump into that just getting you ready for those Utah BYU schedules H in Scotty starting a lineup right now 975 the KSL Sports Zone this is H and Scotty g go L up is set and it's time to kick off the show with the biggest topic of the day this is the starting lineup on 975 the KSL Sports Z hands in Scotty 975 the KSL Sport Zone it is your starting lineup the starting lineup and the show itself all brought to you by mountland Supply where the pros go for plumbing landscaping irrigation agricultural irrigation HVAC parts tools safety equipment and a whole lot more you know the drill Water Runs Through It Mountain land's got you taken care of find a location near you at Mountain land.com all right um I was listening I went back and I was listening to some of our older interviews from earlier in the week and end of last week and I was listening to Freddy Whittingham and you and I talk about this in terms of media covering Utah and BYU in Utah State how you start out and Camp starts and we're all fired up let's go let's go let's go and next week when it's game week we'll be like all right it's game week let's go let's go let's go but there's this little span in the middle of it where it gets to be really difficult not just covering but I got to imagine as a player you talk about how difficult it is a player and I asked Freddy Whittingham earlier in the week about how difficult it is as a coach and if he feels it as well and his response was yeah absolutely we feel it yeah I mean we do acknowledge uh the dog days of Camp to the players and and point out that hey you know we're right in the middle of it we've been going for a while there's not really an end in sight yet and so you just got to focus every day on getting better uh doing your job paying attention to all the details you know a lot of it is going to sound cliche but that's really what you got to do you got to focus on their play you know evaluate their play you know on film at the practice um and make the corrections that you need to make see them do it the way you're asking them to do it the next time and so it's just that process of of everyday evaluation and making sure that uh they're taking steps forward in their fundamentals and technique the way they execute assignments their overall knowledge of the install and the scheme so you just try to keep them focused on what's the next thing in front of them he's so right on this and I'll tell you why it's so important you have to break your body down and you got to break your brain down and you got to break your psyche and your emotions you've got to tear it all down to the the studs because you you've got to and recovery time that's coming up but right now is the time to break it all down to the very Basics and and make yourself physically exhausted and your muscles hurt and your brain hurt and your body completely physically emptied of all of its energy because when it rebuilds it builds stronger so you tear it down and this is a conversation that I was having with my son who was fighting through the 102 103 degree temperatures and even hotter on that stupid field Turf yeah that field Turf with those black rubber dots just absorbs the Heat and then radiate it radiates it upwards and when you can focus in those climates and in those situations then you can focus in the fourth quarter of your opening conference game against Oklahoma State or Kansas State you can find that focus when you you have to have it and so it's it gets really tough because all you wanted to do is get practice over and you're so sick of the stupid same drills and you're so sick of taking on the same look Squad DET tackle or first or second string D tackle depending on how early in Camp it is and if you don't remind yourself that it's critical that every snap you got to take advantage of every snap from the steps to the angles to the hand placements to the the energy that you exert you got to take advantage of every rep otherwise you're taking a step backwards otherwise you're not maxing out how good you can get and you know what Scotty to to Freddy's point that is on the coaches because it is innate it is human nature for us when we're exhausted it's human nature to be like nah yeah not today not doing it this is a stupid drill I'm gonna have a it I'm not I'm not gonna I'm not going through these ladders again with full exertion yeah and as a coach you've got to see it and be like nope not happening I was at a camp yesterday I won't mention which Camp I was at a camp yesterday and I saw the coach push these players in a physical exhaustion drill before they got into team before they got really going into practice to the point where they were done they just physically burnt yeah and done and then they went to practice and there's something to be said about that now the players were none too happy you could see it in their body language the practice was sloppy because they're they were physically burnt to the core but there's something to be said in that because you look around like okay who's thriving right now in exhaustion who's who's got it it through this exhaust who's got it because then I can build a fourth quarter game plan around a linebacker that is not showing the wear and tear of what what we just did yeah or I can build it around a running back or a receiver or a tight end or a certain side of the offensive line I can build it behind these guys that are showing no signs of physical exhaustion they're they're still with it mentally they're not jumping off sides or they're not false starting they're they're all engaged they're executing the game plan or they're executing what whatever it is that they're asked to do I can identify it and get it out of them so these parts of Camp are critical you can learn so much about your team in these parts of Camp well and I think that's why um I think that's why Kyle Whittingham has had so much success at the University of Utah and his staff because they push those guys so hard in Camp so that when now look there might be some collateral damage in terms of injuries and it may have happened last year or we might see teams kind of wear down in the second half of a season and that's been something that's plagued Utah in years past but what we do know about Utah is they're extremely tough and they finish games and when the fourth quarter rolls around and you're in a dog fight chances are they're going to come out on top why because they do the little things in July and August that allows that cream to rise to the top and that's what you see and I was talking to um I was uh I was up at Utah State scrimmage a couple weeks ago and I know uh one of the officials that uh they bring in to use at some of the camps and some of the scrimmages and he he officiates a little bit in the Mountain West does a lot of FCS games and so he's been around he does a lot of programs and and he's a guy that that school he lives here locally and so he'll go to a lot of these schools and help out when they need an official to run a scrimmage and stuff like that and he told me he's like look he goes I've been all over the state from Southern Utah to Weber State Utah State he goes when you are at Utah's Camp it's different there is a different vibe there is a different feel and when you're walk on to that field at the University of Utah during a practice or a scrimmage it has a different level of intensity that he goes I have never felt anywhere else in a scrimmage or a practice it's cranked up and he goes those coaches just run it differently and other coaches try to do it but for whatever it's like inside the NBA on TNT for whatever reason ESPN's been throwing out all different kinds of combinations hoping to try to figure out the magic that is inside the NBA and they just can't do it colani was part of the Utah program he's tried to replicate what goes on at Utah in terms of intensity in terms of pass rush in terms of all that stuff that dude has done everything he can to try to replicate what happened at the University of Utah and he hasn't been able to do it now not say he won't eventually strike gold it could happen yeah maybe Jay and maybe Jay Hill's able to tap into it maybe those two are able to combine and and yeah like I'm saying Anderson I'm not saying it's a lost cause I'm just saying they haven't been able to tap into it yet but for whatever reason Utah from a culture standpoint from a uh an intensity and all of these little intangible things have got it dialed in and and it translates into the season I stepped on to the Utah campus for a Utah Camp my first Camp was 2007 that I actually went to the camp to cover the camp and it was it was just like lightning and and I was just coming out of professional football and I know people think that I that I exaggerate or that I have too much love for Kyle Whittingham or that I talk way too highly about Kyle Whittingham Scotty you know me I talk about good football yeah good coaching and I try to represent where I see it I try to be as honest as I can about where I see it and from day one of stepping on into his camp in 2007 back with Gary Anderson um I believe the the first player I can remember seeing in the first camp that I covered was Joe Ganon like that was the first guy that he was you know out of his mind and and again I'm just coming out of my seventh professional season my fourth AF F season and even I felt it and then I felt it even more in 2008 covering that camp mhm that camp was just electric and I have watched those camps stay very similar now there's been changes over the years but it's very similar in energy and excitement and I think where that comes from Morgan scall and Shri Shaw and even Freddy Whittingham the brother KY Whittingham they all know they can't get away with anything they can't if they try to skate on a drill if they try to skate with emotion or energy or excitement if they then they're on the hook well why was your squad down why didn't your squad know what they were supposed to do in that drill why are we getting into the red zone why are we doing goal line and you've got a Right Guard that's going the wrong direction why are we trying to get our field goal team out on the field and I've got kickers that are running out of the indoor it's like everybody answers for something to the head guy yeah the head guy knows everything yeah and I was actually talking to another instate coach that is not on that staff I was talking to another instate coach and I was making the reference to him that K Whittingham is the age that level Edwards was when I stepped onto the campus at BYU right now that's crazy KY Whittingham is is lvll Edwards age that that that lvll was at when I came to BYU and Kyle is more now I Kyle is more involved and interwin with the daily operations than LV was at that point oh yeah yeah he just is he just is is more forceful and not saying that level didn't work it's just a different approach see I want to be really careful with that because LVL did what he did because he had built it that way yeah with Ken Schmidt and Norm chow and all of his crew he had built it that way but C winningham's practices are still energetic and high energy this is an interesting year because I know that there's a lot of speculation out there that this might be K's last and it's their first in the Big 12 and he wants to enter it in and he wants to win a conference Championship all those things look you and I spoke with k with him yeah and we had a very Frank conversation of this is a Big Year and you've had a lot of energy injuries and he said well I'm dialing it back I don't know how much dialing back there's been in this Camp I I don't think that it's been very dialed back maybe a little bit less hitting but every video that I've seen come out of that camp is electric it's high energy it's high impact and so I don't know how much it's dial back maybe they don't run as many plays maybe they don't have as much goal line full pads snot Bubbles and drool maybe they don't have that but everything I see coming out of at Camp is high energy which it should be even though you've got veterans you don't want them to feel the difference you want them to think hey it's it's a conference Championship or bust yeah the the hype has gotten so big for Utah it's almost like it is a conference Championship herst they step out on the field against Southern Utah and look they'll they'll annihilate Southern Utah um I'm sure you know because every Utah game against an FCS opponent the first quarter will be like 73 and you be like oh is this crazy you know what's going on it'll end up being 35 to three what the final it's what happens every year um but there's going to be from then on whether it's at Utah State whether it's against Baylor whether it's the opener against Oklahoma state every game for Utah is going to feel like a college football playoff game because essentially it is because that's the expectations that are going to be placed on this team yeah and that's why I wanted to play those Freddy Whittingham comments because what you set in stone now is going to pay dividends down the line and how difficult it is and you talk about it all the time and I've learned so much about camps and the innerworkings of these programs from you because you live through it you know how difficult it is to push through it and I to a certain extent you have regrets on not maxing out maxing out yes some of those moments you're a th% right and and I think Utah is like hey we can't look back five years from now and have regrets over this year because the stage is set for something special I wish I could go back to my sophomore year and recommit myself in my sophomore season because I think if I could have recommitted myself in my sophomore season now I I would have if I could go back and move myself I'd move myself to Center under Roger French yeah and I would you think if you would have asked would they have done that no like you were pretty much stuck there weren't you yeah because I was I was very good at what I did yeah on the interior defensively my sophomore year I played defensive end and I got like four or five starts my sophomore year as a dend and then moved into the tackle position and and played defensively but I wish I could go back move myself to Center and be under Roger French and I and then recommit myself mentally yeah it's just weird when you get to college and you sign a 5-year contract which back then it felt like you were signing a 5-year contract I've got five years to play for and it felt like an eternity because you had just finished up four years of high school football and it felt like a lifetime yeah and camps felt like they were 10 years long and so you're like well I'm be here forever here we go stumbling into five years of college football and you got this weird tunnel vision of every day is just too much and it's going to be forever and then you get there to your senior year and you're like oh man I didn't do everything I could have holy cow I should have designated a some type of degree that I could do something with I should I should have laser focused in this area with my weight my conditioning I should have done this and I should have done that you're right you don't want to have regrets the the one thing C winingham can't do it this season is look back and go man I I made those adjustments and man that got me off who I was that got me off who I was and what my Camp is and gosh I can't believe I did that with this talent I should have just stuck to what I know which is hard NOS because at least we could have lost we could have lost my way instead of losing this way with a lack of physicality which is why I I think and you you you said like they may have gone two days with an altered schedule or something like that and then Kyle saw somebody lacking like screw it no we're going back so yeah Scotty there's no way they if Kyle Whittingham pulls up film of the last time they played BYU nobody's gonna take a single day off from physicality because they got beat in the trench yeah they did they did and don't make me do another film study on it like I'll do the I'll do another one I'll bring it and I'll show you how they were getting caught on angles and they were getting moved out and their offensive line was getting hit punched right in the mouth BYU was bringing a lower pad level that game was one in the trench I know that people are like well Charlie Brewer at Utah okay fine maybe a better quarterback gets rid of the ball a little faster maybe that there you could do some things offensively it was it was a trench win yeah and all K winingham has to do is look at it and be like uh that's not going to happen to us again and guess who's on our schedule and guess what it's a bigger game because it's conference and if this is my last goal we're definitely not going to go out like that and that's why I'm looking at BYU like hey BYU they're GNA bring everything they got because 2021 was pretty embarrassing for them you're into the Hornets Nest now heck yeah but again maybe BYU finds a way to surprise a lot of people with their physicality that was really eye openening for everybody in 2020 21 yeah and a big moment for col oh absolutely maybe his biggest uh I think so and he's going to need that again this year all right 1226 H and Scotty thanks for making his part of your Wednesday coming up a little bit later on we will continue to get you ready for the start of the college football season we'll even talk a little NHL Cole baggley will join us coming up at 105 get the latest from the Utah Hockey Club and then Mark Daniels he is the play-by-play announcer for Central Florida who will be hosting both BYU and Utah this upcoming season so we'll chat with him coming up at 205 and Lloyd it is official Shawn pton has made the announcement you know what we have to talk about that coming up Bo Nicks is the starter in Denver shocker you know you know you you saw there the rookie there hasn't been a a rookie quarterback that started for the Broncos since J uh uh Jay Cutler nope John Elway Oh you mean started the season started the season yes start of the Season sorry no started the season sorry got you okay I got you no since John Elway what did I and John Elway got benched Steve Deber came in and uh Steve Deber yeah came in why do I not remember him with the with the Broncos yeah I know that was a that was a uh interesting well I don't even remember that that was that was 83 we were okay then we did I that's why I didn't remember that was a long time ago all right 1228 hands and Scotty uh coming up next uh we'll take a close look at the schedule discrepancy between Utah and BYU next 975 the KSL Sports Zone this is Jake Scott and Ben Anderson there's a different feeling on campus at BYU right now with the football team I sense a difficulty turning a corner at least this year because you're not talking about a young quarterback at this point I don't see what what you do this year that launches into future seasons of BYU being on this significant upward trajectory especially when so often our conversation has been like can you win six games six games at BYU absolutely has to be the standard it's a great football program historically six wins cannot be the bar yeah they're they're not below six wins all that often in their history I I hope it's not just this weird Dead season it just feels like a little bit of a dead season that we're going to book end on both sides and say it has nothing to do with the future and nothing to do with the past here Jake Scott and Ben Anderson every day from 10 to no on 975d KSL Sports Z every moment of every show is available in podcast form by searching Hans and Scotty on your favorite podcasting platform or online at KSL sports.com this is H olssen and Scotty G on 975 the KSL Sports Zone [Music] Lloyd was making fun of us before the show because uh you and I are on a bit of a health kick and not making fun no a little bit we have a protein bar that we love Yeah and and I bought way too much of one flavor and so I texted H last time like hey would you be willing to swap out cuz I know you got a wide variety and so I brought in some of one and you brought in a couple of others and so we were swapping and like trading cards in there Lloyd asked us if it was prison currency for us it is it is man that it is it's currency and it was an even swap if if you didn't notice Lloyd it was four bars for four bars because I thought you got an extra one nope no no four bars for four four bars you don't I just thought maybe he owed you you don't play around with these no no no like look i' I'm more than happy to concede some things here and there hands is as well but when it comes to those protein bars it's fair and fair square and square by the way there's no way that ice cream's healthy Maybe not maybe healthy isn't the right it's packed full of protein oh yeah and there's not a lot of calories in that thing that that is I gave h a uh an ice cream a protein ice cream recipe for the ninja creamy yeah it was butter do you have that ninja creamy uh creamy too I did I got it from my birthday and and I it was full disclosure I told Scott when I opened up the ninja creamy box for my birthday it was full on Despair and disappointment like I cannot believe I got a vacuum for my birthday I cannot believe I just got a blender for my birthday and the very first mixup it was a chocolate protein shake that I turned into a an ice cream yeah and I was like oh this is groundbreaking the protein shakes out of these I've been researching him a little bit researching so so he's got I gave so did you go vanilla or did you go cake batter vanilla all right so we got a vanilla protein shake skim milk um sugar-free pudding butterscotch and vanilla yep and I did do the full two tablespoons of the butterscotch okay and then one of vanilla and one vanilla and then a little did you put a little artificial sweetener in I did I the monk fruit put a little monk fruit in there you got it one serving of that is probably about 140 calories and about 30 grams of protein and I think I ate three servings all right so 300 calories and how many proteins you said uh you're probably about 20 yeah probably per serving uh yeah 15 to 20 per serving so you probably at 60 grams of protein that's what I was thinking I was right in that and it didn't make sense you feel like you're eating like the most creamy very very few carbs too very little sugar is is wild I might eat it every night because it's that good oh oh and a little bit did you use peanut butter or the PB fit Stu the PB fit yeah yeah two tablespoons yeah which I think it makes it creamier yeah I know it does I'm telling you man anyways we're nering out on this stuff well it's okay hey I wanted to talk to you about this because I was going through the BYU in Utah schedules because it was pretty obvious during the schedule release that by schedule is quite a bit more difficult yeah where they're taking on five ranked opponents that sit inside the conference Utah's taking two ranked opponents that sit inside the conference and I know people are trying to ease out of it a little bit because they're like well yeah but you're getting those at LEL Edward Stadium I I don't care where you play them those are five really tough teams but I went a little bit deeper on this Scotty did you know BYU is playing eight teams that played in bowl games last year eight teams that played in bowl games SMU Wyoming Kansas State Arizona Oklahoma State Central Florida that made it to a bowl game they lost their bowl game but they made it to a bowl game Utah and Kansas Utah on the other hand is playing five teams that made bowl games and that includes Utah state that made a bowl at six and six what bowl game did they go to I'm trying to remember oh was the Potato Bowl potato bowl yeah yeah oh yeah it was the potato bowl yep and they lost it yep because they finished with a six and seven record yep so Utah State Oklahoma State Arizona Iowa State and then that same Central Florida team yeah that made the bowl last year at six and six but lost in that ball game now one of those is going to be a little different because Utah BYU plays Utah Utah obviously can't play themselves right so but that's still what eight versus five five and then I did a total combined record so Utah's combined record of opponents last year 69 and 79 so a pretty significant losing percentage Yeah 69 and 79 BYU is playing a schedule that is 90 and 64 yeah that 90 and 64 yeah uh just to take a little bit further Utah is playing a schedule of four winning records from last year now I know that there were five bowl games but but Utah State Utah St lost there so they ended up six and seven they they've got four teams with winning records and that does include Southern Utah at six and five if you want to go FBS you've got three winning records those three Oklahoma State yeah Arizona and Iowa State at 7 and six with BYU it's eight winning records wow if you wanted to take Southern Illinois eight and five away it's seven teams with winning records including SMU at 11 and3 Wyoming at 9 and4 Kansas State at 9 and4 Arizona at 10 and 3 Oklahoma State at 10 and 4 Utah at 8 and5 and Kansas at 9 and four well I was going to say the Big 12 rolled out the red carpet for Utah in a big way they absolutely did and I don't know if that's intentional and I I don't really care and look I'm not upset about it I'm happy for Utah yeah I'm happy because we may get to see a Utah team in a college football playoff in a college football playoff and as we're seeing Utah's numbers with Vegas and their odds to make that college football playoff jump as we see that it's an indicator of what Vegas fills not just Utah but what they fill of their schedule yes yep 100% that comes into play so I feel like this schedule for Utah is so favorable and now what's crazy Scotty if you get past week five you get past week five which is Arizona you play one team that's going to be good I think Iowa State's going to be good that's it yeah after week five you know you got this run of teams that you really should beat I do think TCU is going to be better but you got TCU at Ryle Stadium I do think that rivalry game is going to be really tough with BYU I really do because it always is but you got that at rle Stadium you do play Iowa State the only team with a winning record after week five but you get them at ruckle Stadium the road games at Arizona State at Houston at Colorado you're gonna you're gonna whip those three teams yeah you should and then your final Road game is that Central Florida game that's the game that was it Barry traml that yeah picked the upset for Central Florida yep over Utah I don't think so and we'll talk to Central Florida's play-by-play guy coming up today at 205 that's right they're hosting both Utah and BYU this year that's right we we're going to catch up with Mark Daniels from Central Florida he's great so I'm trying to just emphasize and accentuate the differences in schedules pretty startling and what it plays into and how much it means in the grand scheme of things and I think that it puts BYU between a rock and a hard spot if they don't find a way to it very minimum split SMU and Wyoming if they don't find a way to at the very least split them then getting together six wins is going to be a near impossibility they'll beat Southern Illinois and if you can split those you start the season two and one you got to win four games in conference and you're doing okay because your four games would be Baylor Central Florida Arizona State and Houston yeah and you can win those games you can win them yeah you should win them that gets you to six and six get you to a bowl game boom that gives colani a little bit of a breathing space yeah you're okay go go play well that game and compete well against Utah don't get blown out against Utah that's a big one yeah gotta which I anticipate they will I do think they will they'll play well because they always do and I know we talked about this and I I do get to this point in Camp pre-season where I start to see all sunny skies all rainbows I I start to see all the lollipops and the Beautiful Things of the world that that's where I get at this point that's how we all are in Camp but I I tend to be a walking walking Optimist I I do I am a realist and but it's weird how optimistic I always get for all teams in the state at this point and I'm I'm starting to truly believe that BYU is a six- win team minimum and I'm starting to truly believe that they will keep it close and it will be a dog fight and it will be a game and they're going to show everything they could possibly show in that rivalry game which as you mentioned would be a great situation for Kanani if they win seven games let's go that's if they win seven regular season games That's not including the bowl game six and six and then they win their bowl game and they finish seven and six and it's a bad bowl and it's a bad team I don't care bowl games don't mean a lot to me but six if they get seven regular season wins then that means that they picked up a win that they were probably heavily underdogs too that means that they pick up a win against in Arizona yeah or an Oklahoma state or a Kansas or Utah or Utah or Kansas state that means they pick up one of those not to mention beating an SMU team that was 11 and3 and or beating a Wyoming team that was was nine and four I don't think Wyoming is going to be as good as SMU because Wyoming lost their quarterback SMU has both their quarterbacks back in a very good quarterback situation but the point I'm trying to drive home is BYU has got a tough lot in front of them 90 and 64 with eight bowl games on their schedule this season and Utah 69 and 79 69 and 79 with five bowl games nice for you Utah for sure and if if you put my hand to the fire on this between Southern Illinois and Southern Utah I'm taking Southern Utah if if you're telling me who I need to play oh yeah yeah yeah I'm taking Southern Utah like I'd rather play Southern Utah than Southern Illinois yep 1247 hands and Scotty what you may miss coming up next uh Cole Bagley will join us at 105 we'll talk a little Utah Hockey Club with him it's all right here on 975d KSL Sports Zone 3 2 1 it's the 10th Annual top 60 and 60 get your college football fix every day at 1:30 as the Zone counts you down to the start of the 2024 season by listing off top 60 and 6 weekdays at 1:30 presented by fstar painting on your home of the best college football coverage in Utah 975 the KSL Sports sub you're locked on to H susen and Scotty CH that's right on 975 the KSL Sports Z [Music] [Music] which is fine H and Scotty I want to have that conversation on the air that would be fun I'd go over wello you and me both that's the one thing I do got going for me yeah hopefully fingers crossed all right hands of Scotty 975 dks Sport Zone 1253 on your Wednesday week's nearly halfway over and you're going to have meaningful college football games coming up this weekend in the meantime we've got NFL camps that are going on and they're starting to get close to closing up and getting themselves ready for game prep and Scotty I thought that this conversation I I actually saw you well at least I yeah we were I was listening to it during the break yeah so I found this this morning and I went through the whole audio clip of Britain cvy and at Phillies camp and there's actually a few things I want people to listen for number one listen for the recruiting tactics and how Utah dealt with Britain cvy size as compared to others in the recruiting world and then I want you to hear Britain Cy's thoughts about his size because I'm just telling you right now in the world of college football and high school recruiting coaches love to say boy we love your kid just doesn't have the size he's just not the not the measurements that we need from your kid well here's Brit and cvy talking about that honestly I have never viewed my size as a disadvantage uh I think that's the key is change the framework of your mind to see whatever your weakness is as an advantage not a disadvantage there's certain things I can do as a smaller guy that I would not be able to do if I were bigger and um so I I remember when I was being recruited I had people who I could always tell in the back of their mind they just were obsessed with how small I was and I didn't give them the time of day because I'm like that will never leave your brain when I went to Utah all they talked about was the upside you're so quick you do this you're smart they never saw my size as a disadvantage and I'm like that's my people right there those are my people they they get it and I think uh finding mentors like that is important and then being your own kind of advocate in that sense pretty impressive stuff well I really think that the world of recruiting is broken right now yes yep I think we've gotten so much to size and scale that we have forgotten what makes some players unique and great everybody's become the Raiders got the Raiders used to be fast measurables can he catch don't worry about it Darius Hayward Bay he'll learn how to catch you can figure it out yeah can he run a 4240 yes okay draft him then draft him and I cannot express to people how many universities Miss on how many guys oh je and now it's being represented in the transfer portal yep because we're seeing these Mountain West Conference guys or these FCS guys get into the transfer portal and we're seeing now FBS teams offer them big time bucks why because they completely whiffed yeah they completely missed and I think that there's an amount of being held accountable for those misses that needs to happen in the world of recruiting you've got to you've got to hit on some of these players that might not hit the measurables I know of one in particular that is a five1 middle linebacker that should have multiple multiple offers and doesn't have one because he 5'11 he's not 61 or 6'2 or whatever that mold is but some of the best linebackers that I played with some of the best linebackers I played against some of the best linebackers I knew you know this goes through guys like Shay mbrook and Brad Martin it goes to guys like Zach Thomas Z Thomas was 510 who was in the league when I was in the league and I still think he's one of the top five middle linebackers in NFL history that's that's me that's my opinion but he was legendary don't disagree one bit for how tough he was and how much he could take it so it's like when I hear Brit and cvy talk about that it makes me want to jump into the recruiting World it makes me want to become a recruiting mind and be able to seek out dudes like Britain cuby that have the it factor that nobody else is seeing and then bring the dude with the it factor in and instill major belief that this is your family we love you we believe in you where all of a sudden he blooms into this incredible individual that helps you to pack 12 championships and gets himself in the league now he's making a ton of money playing the game and it's looking like Philly's gonna Institute him in more than just returns yeah you saw that they're working him into some of the offensive formatting I remember talking to Gary Anderson when he was first at Utah State and just took took that job and I remember him specifically talking about Andrew Rich who was at BYU and just killing it at BYU but for whatever reason nobody offered him out of high school he ends up going to snow and ends up blowing up at snow and then able to transition and goes to BYU and has a good career at BYU and I remember Gary Anderson now granted this is before the transfer portal and where you could essentially pay your Walk-Ons and stuff like that but he said he said there's no reason that kid shouldn't have been at Utah State like that's a kid that we see BYU and Utah say oh he doesn't fit the measurables he doesn't fit the mold uh and and go to snow and let's see how you develop there no you're going to come here we're going to give you a scholarship because you're an instate kid we can see you play football well and we're gonna we don't care about how how big you are we don't care about any of that stuff we know that when you're out on the football field good things happen yeah and so we're going to give you a scholarship we're not going to let you fall through the cracks blow up a JC and then you get to go to the school that ultimately you wanted to go to all along we're going to we're going to be we're going to cut out the middleman and we're going to give you a scholarship right now well you know the bummer side of this is Scotty now bigger universities can get lazy oh yeah exactly and say because of transfer portal we will miss yeah and then we'll go get them yeah we got their number we know their family's name we'll let them go to Georgia Southern and develop and let those coaches work on it and then uh when when he and in fact I wouldn't surprise me if those conversations are even had they're like hey look we don't have a scholarship for you uh but you know what go take go to the school we like that staff they do a good job developing you go there for a year maybe two and then we'll roll out the uh red carpet for you and you come here I'm sure those conversations happen all the time because they happen in in terms of JC all the time like where a coach would be like hey look we need to see a little bit more out of you uh we like this staff uh at snow go down there they'll develop you and then we'll bring you back up here MH I guarantee that happens at the uh you know with G5 schools now I will however say that there are not a ton of Britain cubbies in the world nope they're just aren't he is such a he is such a unique commodity I do see guys that I think of in that way like I've told you about one that I think Utah picked up yeah two years ago in kti and sweat where he may not fit measurements but if that g if he's healthy and he's playing in that defensive back field you watch like he is a miracle worker and but his measurables don't fit what you would think yeah and if he goes and does what he what I think he could do then he could be an Ike Larson likee playmaker but then what happens the schools that skipped on you they come back around and they're like oh hey yeah instate kid we got to keep you here yeah this is how we're going to do it and and then Utah State or Weber State you know they're the ones that end up suffering because they saw it and they took the shot on it yeah all right H and Scotty coming up next Cole baggley will join us we'll chat a little Utah Hockey Club with him we are just about 48 days away from starting the NHL season believe it or not this is hands in Scotty 975 the KSL Sport [Music] Zone [Music] cig hands in Scotty 975 the Sport Zone walked in uh Jake and Ben earlier today was dropping off some of the putting my drinks in the fridge for the show and uh Jake goes hey uh what is the best fictional rodent and I'm like the best fictional Roden what are you talking about that's that was there what you got Wednesday uh best fictional rodents huh to go along with best positional group tanding tandems oh you know what they did not go with with um Merlin and Phil played a year together didn't they yeah uh yes yeah Merlin senior year I think it was Phil's freshman year okay that should have been on the list they asked me like did they play I think that I'm like I think they did have a year together but that was their uh their main topic was best positional group tandems um and then the uh non sports one was best fictional rodent Jake got Mickey Mouse Ben went with Ratatouille and then um then it was downhill from there yeah yeah couldn't name Splinter did anybody pick Splinter nobody nobody took Splinter wow nope that's a Miss Jake had Mickey Mouse The Great Mouse Detective Jenner from I don't know who Jenner is Jerry from Tom and Jerry and Mighty Mouse then went Ratatouille then Templeton from Charlotte's Web the brain from Animaniacs Pinky from Animaniacs and itch from The Simpsons nobody took fival oh yeah you got fival out there how do you not take fival for going rodents I think you we could come up with a better list than that yeah I'm sure we could yeah but that's let getting to the bottom of that Barrel yeah yep all right joining us now he is our NHL and Utah Hockey Club Insider for KSL sports.com and overall good dude Cole baggley kind enough to join us Cole how you doing Cole good how are we doing gentlemen how's life man it's good just uh getting pumped for this uh NHL season it's it feels too far away but it'll be here before we know it so it's it's coming up fast and I know that uh since you've been introduced as The Insider and the uh main beat guy for KSL sports.com you've been kneee with this team how prepared do you feel like they are in not just as a team but just the overall operations of the team getting ready for the start of the Season yeah it's crazy how quickly um things have kind of come together I mean when you think about it um you know the the team being sold back in the spring and the fact that they're already uh here in Salt Lake a lot of the guys and you know the front office um have mostly moved up to Salt Lake City and whatnot it's just crazy I mean when the team sold I did not anticipate them to be playing in Utah you know this quickly I thought hey maybe another year in Arizona and then they'll make the move but uh things are these are moving right along um the guys are are making their way to Salt Lake um couple of them were at the uh groundbreaking for the practice facility last week and had a opportunity CH toh chat with Mo with most of them they're just excited um and the team feels prepared and ready and uh you know we'll be uh getting underway with rookie Camp here in a couple weeks and then training camp will follow and so the guys are excited they feel supported uh the all of them had remarkable things to say about the front office you know and Smith Entertainment Group just how well prepared um that team is and uh how how quickly they've they've gotten um on top of things I mean you know they've got the The Practice Facility is now uh being constructed and underway that should be ready by next year you know in the Delta Center they're getting that prepped and ready and so things things are going moving right along and uh we'll be we'll be watching NHL hockey here in a couple weeks and it should be fantastic I'm probably going out of with my question here but you brought up the Delta Center and I wanted to kind of get a vision of what Delta Center is going to look like on game day are they going to curtain things off or are they going to sell those visibility seats for a cheaper price and pack the place in how will that opening game and most of these home games look at Delta Center yeah it's my understanding they're trying to pack as many people in I mean people are going to want to be in the building they've got thousands of people still on a waiting list to try to get season tickets and so uh I'm not entirely sure if they're going to be curtaining anything off I think they're going to pack the house in as many visible seats as they can there might even be a few uh that are part you know partially blocked um uh and whatnot um but they've got phenomenal plans to uh upgrade the Delta Center over the next couple of Seasons you know they're going to work on both ends over the next two years they're going to raise the floor uh to where the ice is going to be put on to to help with that visibility ility um but yeah I mean we'll we'll see what more details we can get before the season starts but to my understanding they're trying to pack pack the house pack the barn so would the worst seat at Delta Center be half ice three4 ice or maybe just all ice except for net I'm talking about the worst visibility in the arena I'm kind of thinking it's going to be um behind one of the Nets you know up on that Upper Deck just depending on you know that the ice is longer um than an NBA floor and so I don't know if you're going to be able to fully see the opposing uh offensive zone completely if you're sitting you know behind one of the Nets up on that Upper Deck but you know that's just me kind of trying to visualize things without fully seeing you know how things are being um worked and and produced and whatnot so you've got a bunch of pieces and by the way you're killing it on KSL sports.com but uh we're at that point where the seasons you know just less than a month and a half away when you look at uh you got a list of games that I think people are looking forward to kind of give us the highlights of the schedule and and some of the games that people should Circle and see if they can get online and try to secure some tickets for yeah I mean unsurprisingly opening night is just going to be a surreal unbelievable magical ho uh evening of hockey um the NHL is unlike anything else it's going to be a packed house and it's going to be lot of first uh experiences for not only the team but the fans I mean you think about it um you know it's going to be the first time that this team is introduced on the ice the first time they take the ice for their new their new fan base you know hopefully we see the first goal and the first win would be fantastic um the first puck drop there's so many things that are going to be so fun and exciting and it's going to be one of those nights where you ask yourself you know where were you you know when the Utah Hockey Club play played their first game hopefully inside the Delta Center because it's going to be um just a incredible experience uh making our way down kind of the list um early season games I think uh you know it's going to be fun and exciting to watch Utah play Colorado um you know there's there's some great rivalries in State uh between you know Utah teams and Colorado teams you know University of Utah and Colorado Buffs um you know RSL and uh and the Rapids so you know this is just going to continue that uh high level of intensity um amongst the Rockies and you know they they play in the same division and so these teams are going to see each other a lot so it should be fun to watch that um then moving more into the midseason you know the uh Stanley Cup champions Florida Panthers are coming to town on January 8th I think it'll be fun to watch you know what what it takes uh to to build a championship roster I mean they the Stanley Cup is is known as kind of the hardest trophy to win in sports and so you know to see you know what it takes uh to construct a roster that can win um one of my favorite players players Sydney Crosby um comes to town January 29th you know this is a guy that has played 20 almost 20 years in the NHL and he's going to be up there with some of the greats um you know like Wayne Gretzky Gordy how Mark Messier and uh you know his contract is starting to wind down and so this may be one of the only opportunities for fans to to witness one of the alltime great players and then just down that stretch um you know they play uh Toronto uh Maple Leaves which is an original six team one of the first six teams uh founded in the NHL they come on March 10th you know there's they've got a really really good team one of the best Americans in the league in Austin Matthews who's just named captain and then as well uh the home finale uh Nashville Predators on April 10th obviously the last home game but this could have huge uh um implications on a playoff birth so Utah Hockey Club finishes their season uh with a three-game um uh road trip against all uh Division division Rivals and so you know if they can if they're in the hunt for a playoff spot and they can win this last home game and maybe springboard themselves into winning a few games and picking up some necessary points you know it could be a critical final game on home ice so those are kind of the games that I've circled so far there's going to be more as the season goes along but for now fans should definitely uh Circle those on their calendar all right Cole let's talk about six overall pick for Utah Hockey Club tuig Gila and I want to get a couple of thoughts from you number one are we going to see the 18-year-old um on the ice for the Utah Hockey Club this year and if the answer to that is yes how much can we expect to see the sixth overall pick on the ice for the Utah Hockey Club I do not expect him to play uh for the Utah Hockey Club this season and that is totally normal um the front office is very very excited about te um you know he was you know outside of maybe the guy who was taken first overall overall by the Sharks te was the player that they wanted and they were a little bit surprised that he fell a six uh and that he was available for them to pick up and so this kid's phenomenal he's exactly who they wanted to get um but in in hockey in the NHL it's not like the NBA or the NFL where you know a first round draft pick especially a first you know first round top 10 almost top five draft pick is going to play right away it's just not how the league is set up generally unless you're the first overall guy second overall guy you still need time to develop and think about how young young these kids are I mean te was technically taken at the age of 17 he didn't turn 18 until after he had signed his contract and so uh he needs more time to develop which is totally okay totally normal that you know fans don't need to worry about him being a bust or anything like that it's just it's the way it is he's playing junior hockey right now and he needs a little bit more time so unless he comes into rookie camp and training camp and just absolutely you know shock boxs the coaching staff and and proves that he's ready we probably won't see him this season um outside of the rookie uh tournament um so if you guys want to watch te which I would I would highly recommend to every Utah fan out there whether you're experienced in hockey knowledge or not watch the rookie tournament because Utah has arguably the most impressive collection of prospects that includes te that includes Cole um Bowden that includes you know a whole bunch of other guys there's a long list of them watch that rookie tournament and you'll see uh te suit up for Utah but that should probably be it uh for this year I I would expect him to have a really good shot to make the team next season so and by the way Cole Bagley joins us NHL Insider for KSL sports.com so I think people sometimes look at what happened in Vegas and think okay all right that needs to happen here in Salt Lake City and you're number one what are reasonable realistic expectations for this Utah Hockey Club in year one right out the gate sure um you know Vegas was a different situation you know obviously an expansion team that that found themselves in probably the best year to be an expansion team with what players were available and unprotected I mean they just they they did it the right way they built a team that could compete right out the gate and they won you know they went to the Stanley Cup Final in year one lost and then I believe it was year six or seven of that franchise that they won a Stanley Cup and so you know different situation you know Utah's relocating they're bringing majority of the roster with them from Arizona um and so what people need to understand is this team is still in a rebuild uh they're a few years ahead of where the Jazz are in terms of rebuild they you know they hit the reset button about four years ago so we're stepping into season five um and what this year should look like is they're going to be competitive and their ceiling is a playoff spot um now their floor might be similar to what it was last season you know 30 6 you know somewhere between 36 and 40 wins um I'd like to think their ceiling is around 50 wins uh maybe you know maybe 52 and that should be good enough to get them into the playoffs but this is a hard division this might top to bottom this might be the toughest division in the NHL you know with the Dallas Stars and and you know the Winnipeg Jets Colorado Avalanche these are and national predators these are all teams that that could go the distance this year and so uh Utah is still in the rebuild but they've taken the next step bringing guys like Miku sergachev John Marino and then just the young prospects they have in in Logan kolie Dylan Gunther Barrett Hayton these are guys that are all poised to take a step uh a leap in terms of production this year and so they're going to be competitive they're going to make it tough on teams every single night they may have nights where they look like the best team in the NHL and the other nights it might be the opposite um so just remain patient if they don't make the playoffs it's not the end of the world this team is trending in the right direction they just might surprise some people and do it but for now I'd say you know keep keep your expectations somewhere between that 40 to 45 wins and maybe just barely missing out on the playoffs all right Cole most people that are listening to this show probably have a really good idea of what the mall looks like off 106 South and what current construction looks like off 106 South do the best job you can painting the picture of what these new facilities will look like and where they'll be placed and how they can be accessed in all those types of things that you can for our listeners sure so uh just a really really good spot I think for this practice facility to be in you know they're they're repurposing the old Macy's off the south end of the Southtown uh Mall which again just just smart by the Smith Entertainment Group to try to revitalize that area and it's it's a central location everybody drives past it on the freeway uh you know if you're heading into Salt Lake or going down south you're going to drive past this facility like I said repurposing the majority um of that Macy's uh old Macy's building and that's where the offices should be going um and then they're going to build the ice sheets which should be a minimum of two ice sheets off that South End um in that back parking lot no it will not impact the Texas Roadhouse so you can still go and get St en rolls um but no it's exciting um it's it's going to look fantastic you know I was able to speak with uh general manager I was able to speak with head coach and um you know they they've seen a little bit more than I have and they just said this is going to be a world class facility and the the the outside renderings appear to be that way but what I love about it is it's it's really for the community as much as it's for the team it's for the community it's to build hockey I was able to speak with Ryan Smith one-on-one and and he's he's big on this he wants to grow hockey in the state of Utah that he wants this to be the center and the home of Utah hockey not just for the club but for the community itself and so youth leagues are going to be able to play here people are going to be able to you know to go onto the ice when uh when the stars and when when the the NHL players are not on it and experience you know what what's that like the access they'll be open you know uh most of the time and and the fact that kids are going to see what a world class facility is like grow up in that uh in that um culture is just fantastic and going to do so much for hockey in this St so if someone that grew up playing hockey uh it just it it warms my soul you know to see something like this come you know come together so it's going to be awesome hopefully it'll be ready by uh the beginning of next SE uh beginning of next season so they can do training camp um but at the latest at some point next year so uh before we let you go uh as they continue to work and build this team uh story Brewing out of Nashville Predators and their uh golender who's a rising Superstar yaroslav oscaro is uh want out he wants a trade um should uh should Utah get in the mix on that I think they should um generally the team that wins the Stanley Cup has the best golender because um they're they're so hard to come by they're so rare and at the end of the day that's the guy that's stopping most of the shots you know the defense can only do so much the forwards can only do so much but if you've got an elite goenda and make uh remarkable plays that keep you in it in key moments um that's what makes the difference and for me you know the goal tending um right now is just okay it's not bad um but it's not exceptional and the position that the team is in you know with continuing to develop and being a part of the rebuild it's at least worth a worth a phone call um and and this is just my thinking this is not me reporting or anything like that you know um I've seen a couple other teams of Interest I think the the Chicago Blackhawks have shown some interest I think Montreal may have shown some interest but for Utah I think yeah you jump on the phone and you make you make a phone call this is a young Prospect who um has shown a lot of promise and uh you know like I said the position the team is in you've got the opportunity to give this kid uh you know playing time that that's his biggest beef right now is Nashville has uh shed up their future you know they signed a one of their their starting gold sender to an eight-year contract and so he knows that he's not the future of this team so you know why not give this kid kid a shot well Cole we appreciate your time uh great Insight great analysis as always on KSL sports.com you're killing it with the content man we appreciate it and uh we look forward to having you on here very soon keep it up Cole yeah anytime appreciate you guys you got it Cole baggley right here on 975 the ekl Sports Zone some good stuff and we continue to learn more and more about the NHL I was reading a story about the Oilers acquiring a pretty big name and they were talking about the specifics of the Oilers cap structure yeah and they had to release guys and you you don't mess with the Cap N can't move it there are no p no tax penalties there there are no there's no padding it's like if you want a guy you got to get inside the cap and I kind of like that with the NHL because the NBA can get kind of exhausting with the cap and then the luxury yeah and then the luxury tax and then the apron and all apron and the repeaters and all the things that you've got that can affect all the way from draft picks if you start to get into this cap but it's this whole extended world of cap space that you can take advantage of that's that's not the NHL no nope all right coming up next we'll announce number eight in our top 60 and 60 we've got the good the bad the ugly coming up at 205 we'll talk a little Central Florida with their play-by-play voice as we continue our tour around the Big 12 as well it's all right here on 975 the KSL Sports Zone ladies and gentlemen may I present this is JJ and Alex you may be right we saw Jake Roff and we saw what happened last year in the four games 10 and4 the Oklahoma pass the interception at the goal line was brutal if you start seeing that kind of stuff again and he's the guy and you've got a a senior on your bench that won a big 12 Championship maybe you pull the trigger a little quick maybe I'm wrong there but 95% of the time you have got to make a choice that's what Camp's for that's what spring into campus 4 decide who your guy is make that choice let him go out there and do it and don't be in his head all the time about making a mistake cuz he will not be able to make plays for you we wish you the best of luck if you fumble this ball once you're gone reminds me of high school football catch JJ and Alex afternoons from 3 to 6 presented by G2G bars on 975 the KSL Sports Zone number one miss any part of the show every moment of every show is available in podcast for by searching Hans and Scotty on your favorite podcasting platform or online at KSL sports.com this is H solson and Scotty G on 975 the KSL Sports Zone Hans in Scotty 975 the KSL Sports Zone on a Wednesday week is half over we're going to have meaningful college football games we will have meaningful games hands coming up this weekend until Valentine's Day there you go I'm so excited about it get it ready man can't wait trying to figure out where my excitement level is for the NFL this year last year was a good seven seven and a half I think this year it's six six and a half really not as primed up on the NFL you'll get there maybe I will yeah yeah as soon as those Bronco games start for you're going to be you're going to be all in you're talking to me good yeah so you're talking to me as a Raiders fan you're talking to me that's a lifelong Raiders fan over here what are you talking about he hates the Broncos coming at my guy all wrong stab you in the eye with a solder coming at my guy I'll Rong why would you come at me like that I am excited about the Broncos just Raiders on Raider crime right there I am sick to my stomach if they if they hit B KN B Nick what what B Nicks KN almost said nuck Nicks it's Bo Jackson Nicks Bud get it right shut your you shut your mouth you shut your Raider fan mouth knows hear Bo knows that starting job no he doesn't you should be sick to your stomach Bron's offense no but if they if they knock that out of the park oh I'll be so sick to myself oh that would be crazy I have this hippie starting for the Raiders oh he is too uh yeah we're going to get to that coming up here in a second that's part of the good got that get that Parade route going for Tropicana you're bringing that Lombardi trophy home with Garner muu all right let's announce number eight before we get to the good the bad the ugly it's time for our next selection in our top 60 and 60 this is the top 60 and 60 60 as the Zone counts you down to the start of the 2024 college football season and now it's time for today's selection as voted on by the local sports media and you the fans the former Pack 12 defensive freshman of the Year breaks into the top 10 as he started the last 36 games in his Utah career and will look to continue to wreck offenses as the youth's transition to the Big 12 coming in at number eight from the University of Utah 6'3 308 lb offensive tackle Junior tuna University of Utah head coach Kyle whitning Junior tuna one of the best defensive interior lineman in the country this will be his last go route he's a senior and he is ready to have a uh breakout season and we're excited to see what he can do this is the top 60 and 60 presented by fstar painting on 975 the KSL Sports Zone I think Kyle when he says breakout I look there's no breaking out for junior tuna we all know who he is we know how good he is and and the NFL soon is going to know how good he is this guy's a really really special player and uh there's a reason he's top eight in the 60 and 60 and I'm hoping he's all healed up because last year was kind of a bum run for him you know 17 tackles is not what you come to expect from Junior tauna now you're not asked to do a lot of pass rushing and get a lot of sacks in that middle but we have seen middles like starl Lele and others who have been able to rack up the sacks and he had one and a half last year but here's the deal he really played healthy I think in four games yeah maybe three but maybe four he only played eight games and I know that he was playing through some real hard stuff especially when he came back in the whatever back end of September when he when he finally jumped in I know that he was really unhealthy yeah he and simote pppa correct we're dealing with so many different things so we saw him and we talked to him at Big 12 media days and I was a able to ask him and in a very sincere way you ready is everything ready no problems no issues no problems no issues he's ready to go so we should see 12 regular season games we should see 38 tackles we should see three and a half sacks we should see anywhere from 8 to 12 tfls and we should see a fourth round maybe fifth round evaluation on Junior tuna that's what we should see from him and a seven or eight year NFL career out of that and a seven yep anywhere from six to eight yeah get himself vested make some extra money and then come back and coach or find whatever it is that is your passion in life go have a great life yeah because that's all within his reach it's all within his reach man you know he's playing in a system with guys that are going to keep quarterbacks up in the pocket yeah he's playing in a system where you're going to have some really nice coverages and you're going to have good two and a half to three counts to get there with your bull rush to get there with your arm over to get there with your stab your push and pull he's going to have multiple two and a half and three counts where he can do that because the coverages mhm he's going to have blitzes that are going to force quarterbacks up and they're going to scramble clean it up you got Edge guys are going to push guys up in the pocket you need to be right there to clean up the mess Junior should be in position to make a lot of plays if he's healthy yeah all right 138 there you go Junior tuna checking in at number eight uh let's see me show you who number seven is uh do you know off top of your head no um here it is all right yeah that is perfect placement perfect placement I would agree when I first saw this guy jump out on the scene playing college football I did not think we'd ever see him in a top 10 conversation for the 60 and 60 but he is Ste improved every year and he has earned that spot okay I'm going to give you my expectations for number seven Big 12 First Team uh yeah I agree with that yep big 12 First Team yep and that should be shared with another person in that position in this state I like it is that fair yep hands and Scotty 975 the KSL sport Zone let's get to it good the bad the ugly it's time to sadle up and talk about the winners and the losers this is The Good the Bad and the Ugly now here's the good good the bad the ugly right here on 975 the KSL Sport Zone all brought to you by RGS exteriors whether it's uh rain gutters or whether it's a full complete makeover to the outside of your home RGS is going to make it happen for you all right Garner menu officially announced as the starting quarterback for your hands Las Vegas Raiders yeah was asked about earning another opportunity to be a starting quarterback in the NFL he said I can't believe I've been given this opportunity again all what what have I done to deserve this is that what said he says how do I keep fooling everybody I think anytime you step in as a quarterback it's your team this is my team these are my Raiders I'm treating it like that coming in right now I have a lot of stuff that I can work on really get dialed in but this is my team I'm going to treat it like my team and I'm going to go out there and do the best I can to bring wins to Las Vegas that's the sign of a good leader it's his team it's my team you want you want to hear his numbers down here it's my team you want to hear his numbers against the Cowboys on Saturday and I'm taking them back taking them all back 10 for 21 95 yards 60.6 rating that was in a preseason game that's preseason doesn't matter you probably should do a little better I would imagine well my hope is that within three games Nathan Peterman is grabbed the start and brings the Raiders back to Glory maybe Carter Bradley no Aiden oconnell you don't want a Aiden's already been tested measur and filmed wanted are you giving up on Aiden no no no i' I think I'd still like to see a little bit more of AOC all right would you have given him the starting nod over Gardner I mean he wasn't much better in that game he had a he did have a pick six he wasn't much better but I still saw some glimpses so I know we have a little bit of fun at Gardener's expense I will tell you this I would love to see gter minu win oh I think you pretty much plan on it I would love to see that guy don't you troll us Scotty I'd love to see that guy like really win because I do root for him he's always been fun and funny and exciting and interesting I gotta imagine he's a guy that you would love to hang out with in a locker room yeah oh I think he'd be a blast and that goes back to his time with the pirate oh yeah and I think that he's gotten as many shots as he's gotten because of what the pirate did for him in allowing him to really throw and pass and be the name and be the personality but Gardner menu getting the start for the Raiders does not instill a ton of oh I come on I and optimism in me I put it on the good for a reason because this is good news for the Raiders this is good news this is a good day for the Raiders SC Scotty what well I'm being serious You' got Nicks is good news you got that is good news next John Elway yeah let's that's a like that's a good A B Knicks is Young he's stupid he's going to make a lot of mistakes it's going to be a rough year for the Broncos Super Broncos the Broncos are gonna have now look I think Joe I think Bo Nicks Joe Burrows this thing uh no no he may eventually become a good quarterback but it's GNA be miserable this year okay but stop but Gardner this year stop veteran presence yeah watch out veteran presence yeah he's been around the league oh oh his veteran shut up because I I don't think that that zamir white is exactly the guy that's going to go run crazy on I mean defense and let's be honest here as long as you got Crosby out there wrecking quarterbacks it doesn't matter who you have now we're talking now I will AG now we're talking Max is the best of the best and yeah there's a good possibility that Max Crosby on his back takes us back to the playoffs I mean the game that I I took my kid too last year when the Broncos went down there it was like watching the water boy like like nobody could do anything offensively and it was just like all right well Crosby's just gonna single-handedly win this game and he did single-handedly won that game oh he is a freak he is problem all right let's get to it there's your good let's get to the bad now the bad so Scotty we've had a couple story updates we've got another one here gazer trillis and the crazy flight incident okay where he Ur urinated on a passenger yes I'm going to give you his excuse and I want to see if if it's acceptable to you all right okay this is what he tweeted out I'd like to address the media reports about me that surfaced regarding a situation that occurred on board a flight to Ireland this past weekend the flight was unexpectedly delayed for approximately 4 hours and it did not take off until 12:30 in the morning in preparation for the unexpected overnight flight I took a sleeping medication that I don't normally use which resulted in me urinating on multiple no which resulted in behavior that is not representative of my char and I would like to apologize to the passengers and flight crew he took sleep medication that ignited his bladder oh boy and caused him to be volatile and actually urinated all people on a flight so he's owning it he's like yeah that happened yes and but it was because of medication yes yes I urinated them and I'd like to do it again yeah and I'd do it again and I hope they burn in hell they soak in hell so yeah so this guy my masseuse was taking this sleeping medicine and then gave me a back R was that crazy and I had a and it had an open soar and some of it got inside me and now I'm urinating all over people inside believable than that trash yesterday yeah that's true that's true the number one tennis player in the world who popped positive for that work that's a the story worked said that his masseuse sprayed a wound on his hand with some antiseptic that had steroid in it he massaged it into his back man these excuses are getting crazy so what what should happen to a guy that let's say he did take sleep medication but he did urinate on people on the airplane I look he exposed himself uh yeah you should go to jail and I don't care look so what if you so what if you were taking medication or you were drunk or whatever that's something you did to yourself nobody forced you to take that sleeping pill and your reaction to that sleeping pill was disgusting behavior and you should pay the price for it yeah I agree I mean a lot of people like well it's not my fault I took this pill no yeah you took the pill and you behave badly because of it or you're using that as an excuse for your bad behavior either way you did bad stuff and you need to pay the price okay I'm going to go out on a limb now I am not a drug abuser but I gotta imagine that I could slam pack my system with every type of drug you could imagine I'm still not going to urinate on people uh no no there's still something there that's like even if you're doing that and your sleep on pills Bud you're a weirdo yeah and you need to go to jail for a long time and think about this yeah I'd hate to be a cellmate oh I know don't give him the top bunk oh man that's so bad dude's like a sprinkler system up there chillous I had chillous I had a friend that was oh boy had a couple too many cocktails yeah and I was this is a long long time ago back in college and Jake Scott no it was not and no it was not muffin I'm already beating you to it it was not I wasn't going to bring neither one of the two neither one of the two and had a few too many I was happen to be sleeping on his couch and I woke up and all of a sudden he was there just urinating right on his big screen TV are you serious on the TV on his TV I was like what are you doing which does remind me Troyer I know we were all thinking ver Troyer yeah I said what are you doing okay but okay so it might happen if you get loaded but how much of an excuse is getting loaded in doing that on a public flight well it's never an excuse no there's no excuse could beating on people no nope all right one more let's sneak in the ugly and of course the ugly I've had this on the ugly for a while it's happened actually on Sunday but uh we've been uh unable to get to the ugly for some time but uh we got to talk about xaven Harris Old Miss defensive lineman uh and apparently a very disgusting human being as well arrested on Sunday for domestic violence and obstructing arrest charges not a lot of details coming out about this but it was a bad deal Lane kein said that he is aware of the incident and aware of the arrest is not commenting any further uh appeared in 11 games last year recorded 30 tackles uh three and a half tackles for loss a sack had three block kicks um was projected to be in the heavy rotation this fall uh but 67 320 yeah that's a big Mamba Jamba here's the kicker though he was also arrested in July of last year under a DUI charge as well as felony fleeing and other charges he faced internal discipline for that incident internal meaning Lane kein made him Lun run a lap or two all right all right if we are going to hold coaches to a high standard then let's hold coaches to high standard yes and I think that that's been one of the hardest pills to swallow with Blake Anderson for me is what was his intent and was his intent to harm was it was his intent to hide or cover up or what was his intent I want to know yeah because I sure feel like he's a pretty incred I person I I agree I think there's coaches in the inable a ranks that would literally and I'm not even kidding you would pick up a dead body drop it in a hole with the player that killed him and throw dirt on it yep and say nothing to he nobody hears a word of this yep I think that there are people that are that disgusting and desperate to win that they would do that and I want to know who it is because if this guy is getting drunk and DUIs and hitting family members assaulting people I don't care if he's 67325 I don't care if he's built like the son of Zeus yeah I don't care if that he he can get me 28 tackles three sacks and 25 tfls with his Fierce nature I don't care I want him in prison I needs to certainly don't want them on my team exactly and you don't want them in your community either yeah all right hands and Scotty whole world news next and we'll talk a little Central Florida and our trip around the Big 12 coming up at 205 right here on 975 the ekl Sports Zone this is this is DJ and PK joined Now by cam meller executive director of the college football network talking about teams adjusting to new conferences obviously for the four teams that went into the Big 12 a year ago it was difficult is anybody poised for either a good step forward let's be bull eligible or even a bigger step forward than that and obviously BYU's in that group and we got a lot of cougar fans listening the biggest thing that we wanted to know from BYU last year was the war of a TR were they going to be able to stay healthy enough and were they going to be able to present enough depth on that roster to compete in the Big 12 I don't know if they got a whole lot better whereas I'll look at a team like the Cincinnati Bearcats they did enough work this offseason to continue to make over that roster to bring in players so I think Cincinnati is in the turn for maybe that change they're going to be a midling player could surprise a couple of teams whereas B maybe a year off catch DJ and PK mornings from 6:00 to 10 on 975 the KSL Sports Zone it's time to span the globe for the hard-hitting news you care about well not really but hey at least we found it interesting this is whole world news on 975 the KSL Sports Z we got the whole world in our hand you got the world in our hand we got the world in our hands we got the whole world in our hands we got the whole world in our hand you got you and me brother in our hands you got you and me sister in our hands you got you and me brother our hands in Scotty 75 the KSL Sport Zone hey uh we got whole world news before we get to that though let's give away some tickets shall we caller number 12 right now it is a win ticket Wednesday 801 575 Zone that's 801 575 Zone caller number 12 you're going to win tickets to go see train and Aro Speedwagon on Wednesday August 29th that's an interesting combination train and Ario Speedwagon that's not a bad show though I'd watch that is the cast and crew of Ario they're all alive uh as far as I know can't fight that feeling anymore I could definitely do some Ario speed wi I could see you and Mama slow dance into Aro Speedwagon for sure Ario Speedwagon no tear jobs Jupiter no no but AR we're having some fun te drop that's going to be a fun concert though people are going to love this yes absolutely they will an incredible night beautiful weather just an excellent concert that the weirdest thing what was that do you see that Lloyd some dude just stuck his face up in the window of the door and then held up the phone that had the face of somebody else like he was FaceTiming wanted to see what was going on inside our studio yeah that's really strange gez we've been in a fishbowl before that that's a whole another level right there all right whole world news sorry that threw me off um let's go to uh Providence Rhode Island a man hands has been hospitalized with a broken jaw because of a bar fight now I remember you telling the story about how you took a recruit and uh he said look I just want to do one thing I want to get into a fight right so there's certain people out there that are just looking for any excuse whatsoever to get into a fight they love fights um well this guy got his jaw broken after he was dragged out of the bar and beaten up because of the song He selected on the Juke Box what okay before I judge I I it doesn't that's the one thing about this story that really bums me out we don't know what the song is I was going to make one up just for fun but I thought no I got to how do they not have the name of the song we've got a great story here great news story and they don't have the song the victim a male in his 40s told police he had been at dead beats bar on night street now that's probably a good sign you're in a rough one where you got to be careful about the songs you're picking if the bar you're at is called Dead beats when three men started a fight with him over a song He selected on the Juke Box according to the victim the suspects white males in their 30s dragged him outside and began assaulting him the victim told police he lost Consciousness and after he felt like his jaw was broken later it was determined that yes his jaw was indeed broken and police said they observed a cut on the victim's chin he was bleeding and severely swollen on the side of his face no it can't be achy breaky heart I don't care when or where this plays it's welcome yeah but you get to the 15th time come on no it's well yeah you don't want to get too far okay so Scotty what song would cause you to break somebody's jaw this one it would no no I like ay breaky heart no I like ay Breaky Heart maybe a little cplay might might get there no it wouldn't you would not break somebody's jaw over clocks or the scientist or fix you or yellow these are all these different songs that he's playing right now they're not you guys are such a joke with this whole thing I don't know uh is there a song not a song oh yeah no there is a song it's Lee Greenwood Lee Greenwood make me want to break somebody's JW I was waiting for it you do hate that song I ha song so much mine would probably be she's got legs or whatever that stupid oh the zezy top yeah I hate zzy Top Oh I thought they've grown on you though no it's such a lame group you put up did you lie to coach saying that no you he puts up with it because he loves bowler that's the only thing that allows you to get through that that's exactly cuz bowler loves easy top and so we play no you play Highway man no I've changed the highway man it used to be zezy top I moved High you did that for hands uh no well sort of but I really like the highway man I don't know why bowler reminds me of a highway man he does he does man I I hate zezy Top I don't know if a song though would push me to the edge to break somebody's jaw if I saw them requested that's a big extreme jump there there's got to be more to the story than just a bad song cuz look you're average song's going to last three and a half to four minutes you tell me you can't get through three and a half to four minutes of a bad song without break somebody teeth breaking a jaw Lloyd is there a song that you would want to punch somebody in their face over no this is come on man everybody be dancing and have a good time no they're not nobody's having a good time people love Nickelback they just don't want to admit it yeah now it's cool to hate Nickelback although listen to his voice though sounds like an engine it sounds like an engine yep definitely want to punch you in the face right now oh come on an Olson Scott Gerard coming up next uh we'll talk a little Central Florida they host both BYU and Utah this year uh what do we know about them we'll find out next 975 the ekl Sports Zone locked on to H Su and Scotty CH on 975 the KSL Sports Z [Music] [Music] little diddy about Jack and Dian two American Kids growing H and Scotty 975 the KSL Sports Zone happy Wednesday final hour of the program for hand the rains on over to JJ and Alex do a great job every day from 3: to 6 coming up here in just a moment we'll talk a little Central Florida with Mark Daniels play byplay voice of Central Florida I'm excited for this conversation with Mark Daniels he's been such a great part of the Big 12 media days and he's been so much fun part of the Legends dinner yeah oh yeah but it's we we don't call that the Big 12 because we're just the Big 12 can you stop the Legends dinner is the Big 12 Legends dinner the Big 12 the the Legends dinner is no no no it adorns only one meeting um but it's been great to get to know Mark over the last couple of years and when we talk about Central Florida you know how in you know know in the world of the NBA and you talk about Championship level basketball you say oh the three-headed monster Central Florida's got a three-headed monster that three-headed monster is RJ Harvey at the running back KJ Jefferson at the quarterback and Gus mezon as the head coach yeah yeah that's the three-headed monster it's an offensive Juggernaut and that is why I believe we've heard a couple of different people now take Central Florida as the Big 12 Champion Darkhorse because a lot of people think that Malon is going to find that secret combination with KJ Jefferson and RJ Harvey and that he's gonna make those guys Legends and find a way to make Central Florida that place again yeah I don't know if I expect it I don't think I expect it uh Central Florida was a six and six regular season team last year but I could see them growing in numbers and and probably growing in wins one thing about Central Florida is it is a school I believe um at one point and I think it is still the case they have got the largest student body of any University in the country uh and because of that they get to rack up all these student fees and pour it right into Athletics and so it is a very well-funded program um they've got a beautiful Stadium they just built a few years ago um they have made a huge commitment to Athletics and yeah I think that there there's a reason why the big 12 came calling because they are a potential Juggernaut and plus you know you're recruiting in Florida so you should have great athletes there year in and year out and last year they suffered through a five-game losing skid and then won three out of four to end the regular season before losing into bowl game to Georgia Tech but this team ended the season with a little bit of momentum going into this year and you're right there are people out there we had Barry traml on last week who has Central Florida as his dark course is a team that could win the Big 12 let's get Mark Daniels thoughts on it who's been the play-by-play voice for over 30 years at Central Florida Mark how are you hey Mark I'm doing great guys how are you 30 years you've seen uh you've seen quite the uh ups and downs of that program and uh that that's got to be a fun run to see the development of that over the last three decades well UCF is the youngest power for program of the country when I started in 95 you was making the transition of onea into life as ANP dependent um and uh it's been a big climb since then they go from independent to members of the Mac uh to Conference USA the American and now of the Big 12 so it's been a it's been quite a journey the last three decades well how do you feel about that current home Mark we get to see it those big 12 media days and we've had opportunities to meet up quite a few times and I know you got big smiles and Central Florida seems to found a home and love it but how do you feel with the big 12 and where central Florida sits well I think you know for UCF it's a great situation um the reality is um you know if you're outside the power four it's it's challenging it's challenging from a financial standpoint it's challenging from just the college football structure now while the G5 is going to get a spot in the playoff it just makes it tougher but for UCF it um it was the right situation they parlayed the success of the undefeated seasons of 2017 and 18 to be relevant that when the time came and The Dominoes kind of fell like bwu was in a position you know you're able to um make that jump and I think last year like BYU UCF saw that you know uh it's not just hey we're in the league now ready to go and I think UCF learned as the year went along about the areas that they've got to elevate their program I think on a a size standpoint physical standpoint and the way they just kind of go about some things but I think it's great um I think the league is uh is awesome for where UCF is right now and where college football is I think what makes the big unique is that you know maybe the other leagues have a couple of dominant programs that maybe quer cut favorites well I think Utah maybe is a deserving preseason favorite I do think there's a number of teams that feel like a break here a break there uh and it can be a very competitive Championship race the Big 12 now everybody may end up eating each other up and and and um you know may end up with only one playoff team but I think it gives a lot of program hope going into the season which should be a fantastic Big 12 race so there was that five-game losing skid last year uh for Central Florida and then that team turns around and wins three out of its last four including a blowout victory over Oklahoma State to end the regular season before the bll game uh what was the shift that happened for that team during that stretch and can they carry that momentum into this year Well I you know cut down on mistakes and then get some breaks I think uh uh you know college football the difference of of five and seven and seven in five may just be a couple of bounces that go your way and I think you have found themselves in games that were one possession games where they didn't get the break that went their way we had several of those you know our first game at Kansas State we're driving for potential game time touchdown um you know we had a backup quarterback that started of the game and tried to make a play and scrambled and he stepped out of bounds and now instead of throwing the ball away it's second and 10 you're inside there 40 you're at second and 177 um game against Baylor we never should have let get away when you've got a multiple touchdown lead like that game against West Virginia you're down by one driving at home and Blindside hit your quarterback fumbles a football they score a couple of plays later so those things didn't go ucf's way and then I think they just had some breaks it went their way the game against Oklahoma state was just one of those days that everything felt in place and you know they they just jumped in Oklahoma State early was coming off that emotional win against um Oklahoma so I think they just cut down on M stakes and and and made some adjustments but I think it was frustrating to Gus and the staff was you know if you limit some of those mistakes and you flip those one possession games then you feel a lot better if you ended up winning you know eight games in your first year um and things like that but again I think everybody learns from that and and I think USF is is more prepared for another season the Big 12 so UCF goes out and they get KJ Jefferson from Arkansas BYU obviously has familiarity with KJ Jefferson played against him and Arkansas at Arkansas and an CC game that was fantastic now KJ Jefferson teams up with RJ Harvey who I've got as arguably the second best running back in the entire conference paired with Gus malan who knows how to work quarterback play what are what are your expectations for KJ Jefferson what was the fan hype like when you heard KJ Jefferson was coming to UCF and just give me your thoughts on that three-headed monster he a big dude like you isn't he he's a tall dude he's a big dude he really is I I actually stood kind of about 10 15 feet away from me he's a monster um look KJ's a big guy uh 64 65 250 might be a little bit thicker uh than that I think that maybe he was looking for change of scenery at Arkansas um Gus recruited him out of high school obviously being from the state knew him well and I think sold him on the type of offense that Gus envisioned um when he ran with Cam new not saying that KJ's got the same type of Heisman year but I think big quarterback that's a threat um and and can do some things that kind of fit what Gus wants to do you know Gus's time at UCF um you know started with Dylan Gabriel then he got hurt and then uh you know Mikey Keane John Weiss plumbley but now he gets a guy that is in that Cam Newton mode that allows him uh to play I think more of an Auburn type offense andal Gus is one of the great innovators offensively and spreading you out if you look Gus's best offense is at Auburn team with a lot of power running of the football and I think when you see what UCF KJ's ability to run of course be a thrower you mention the return of RJ Harvey UC have added Penny Boer ran for 1400 yards and was the Mac offensive play of the year um he you know he comes in at 242 miles Montgomery transferred from Cincinnati he's a Florida kid they bring back kind of a a speed freak and Johnny Richardson I think UCF feels like they got one of the best if not best running back rooms in the conference respecting other teams in in the back are bringing back but the dep the point is I think if you see us lying in Block you might see more of an emphasis on running the football kind of control games doesn't mean they won't utilize their receivers as weapons but I think you might see more of that SEC style Power Attack that Gus had in his big years at Albert how are you looking defensively going into this season well for honest it can't be worse yeah I was trying to find a way to word that I'm like I'm just GNA leave this open ended to let you handle it but I think and I watched a number of BYU games last year I think you guys would agree you had to go experience the season in the Big 12 to get a better understanding about what everybody's Personnel was and I think what jumped out for us in like our first game against Kansas State and then even when we played a really well coached Kansas team and then some other teams was the quality of offensive line look I the American was a great league for UCF and there's some good football teams in that league but the quality of lineman on both sides is just significantly different where you might have one maybe a second guy you know at a top a G5 program that could play uh P4 football but not Five Guys not a depth across the defense so you see a struggle because they found some offensive lines able to seal off the outside guys broke outside we played at times because of injuries with undersized safeties guys we played with safeties last year that were you know 510 165 and we're going against teams that are playing with safy 62 632 20 um so it was an adjustment very thin at linebacker so UCF knew hey we got to get bigger faster more physical and understand the type of offenses that we're playing I think Gus recognized that did the best that he could with the players that he had but put an emphasis on that and where they hit the portal in the off season I think they're much better at linebacker Ethan bar was a captain at vanderville people can laugh at vanderville struggles but as far as the way he played he's an excellent upgrade for UCF um they've gotten better deshan Pace came from Cincinnati J I came from Texas Techo UCF saw so they're better with more experienc at linebacker and they bought a ton of guys in the secondary they bring back some people Brandon Adams is a six3 corner that's going to play on Sundays he's one of the few guys returning but there's some other guys that they brought in that they just think they're back seven which now is you know two and five on the backside are just going to be better and that's going to help them in games where teams were able to just kind of play Power football on them and they struggled at times so I think defensively they can only be better Ted rof was at Oklahoma last year he worked with usus when the Auburn team a national championships they know each other kind of a veteran guy I think he might gamble a little bit more because he feels the Personnel he's got they can blitz so I think it's going to be a better defense but again we got to go play and see how they a stack up against really good offense well Scotty to your point to your question to Mark earlier just talking about this defense and then also how this season shaped up I was looking at Oly Gordon's stats couple of days ago Mark and came across that Central Florida game and and there was only one big 12 team that held oi Gordon under 100 yards Scotty and it wasn't just under 100 it was 25 yards for Central Florida so I don't know exactly what happened in that game where you guys not only thumped Oklahoma State but held the league leading rusher the country leading rusher to 25 yards because that that tells me that Central Florida can do it when they want to yeah series events again they were coming off the emotional wi against Oklahoma uh UCF it you know for us we call our space game our connection with the Space Center here and our space uniforms and UCS never lost a space game uh you know kind of add to it it was a a big weekend a Hol of Fame weekend and then UCF scores early um you stop Oklahoma State you stop again and you score you get a double you you get a multiple possession lead then the rains come and all of a sudden Oklahoma State can't run the football because they're down by multiple scores you try to throw in the rain um hostile crowd and kind of think snowballed from there look it was a big day for RJ Harvey to Stacked himself up against Ali I think Ali's a fantastic back and just had one of those days where the stars aligned I think he Mike gun even said afterward there's nothing I can say I mean the game just went the way it went and we'll see you next week and they rebounded after that but um you I think UC feels like they you know they've got some weapons RJ's a great story you know a high school star in Orlando went to Virginia as a dual threat quarterback and then came back home was going to be the starting running back a few years ago blew out his knee early in Camp in August um but now has worked his way back to become a tough college football back and the interesting thing is he was open to the idea of bringing Penny Boon in from Toledo um don't need to carry the ball 25 times a game keep bodies fresh as you get to the fourth quarter and I Hans I mean you guys know if you're going to play at the next level once you've established yourself like in Oklahoma State may use Ali Gordon lot the NFL knows what he is you got to be careful how much you want to wear the tires if you plan on playing on Sunday so you mentioned it the close losses three out of the four losses were two points or less uh or three out of the seven losses excuse me were three or two points or less what needs to happen for this team is it just simply experience or confidence to make sure that you know you don't lose to Texas Tech by two you don't lose to Baylor by one you know those close games down the stretch in game in in those situations well but if a fingernail is a little bit smaller at Texas Tech the extra points not block yeah um and if the ball got out to RJ Harvey in a two-point conversion Oklahoma then it's a different I mean that's just you know um sometimes you just need breaks to go your way it's like I tell people you go back to the run in 2017 and 18 for UCF you know you have to it's a 25 game win streak how many times in those games did the ball go their way the ball bounc for you and a fumble um the right tip ball I mean sometimes you need some luck along away but I do think you know some points that Gus has talked about offed in Camp a reduce the penalties UCF was penalized too much last year he said you got to be more disciplined he said it's on him it's on the coaching staff so they got to reduce penalties it helped teams too much in games against him and you got to win a turnover battle we struggled in that last year particularly in big football games and they got to be better at that and you know I mean the thing's obviously stood about getting better on a defense but um it's it's it's an emphasis on on reducing the mistakes of penalties or turnovers uh that that make you in a position to say let them make mistakes if you're going to beat us you're going to beat us because you've earned it we can't help you out and UCF wasn't good enough last year across the board personnel-wise to make those mistakes and then win games where sometimes you're just out class people you can get away with it they weren't in that position last year well Mark I would kind of extend this out to you and say I hope that there's enough seats in that what is it 45,000 seat Stadium how many how many can it uh can it at the bounce sou yep we got 45,000 all right well hope there's plenty of room in there because I'm going to tell you one thing people from the state of Utah love to travel to Orlando so I'm I'm hoping that they can open up a few seats because you're taking them Utah and BYU hosting them there and what can people expect when they come into that stadium and they get a sense of what UCF football's all about well I mean if they get like the last time beu we get an overtime game uh so um uh look uh every place is unique um I've been fortunate to to to to do football at BYU before was just there this past year but what I thought was one of the great basketball atmospheres that I've done in my 30 years and and uh so you know Orlando takes pride in um offering what they think is a lot for visiting fans we like to think we're the 4 day college football weekend because people want to come for our theme parks beaches and all that other fun stuff um and I think BYU fans hopefully they're going to plan it come even earlier uh will get to enjoy that the bounce house is unique it does bounce the way it was built it's loud the way that um it it's constructed to keep the noise on the field uh we always prefer to be hot and humid for teams that come from different types of climates um but ucf's got a great home record like a lot of places you have to fight to earn that I think BYU fans will certainly enjoy uh the atmosphere and I will tell you this my friend well plenty of room for BYU with the alotment the broadcast food that's a different story we're working on that give us a few years we rebuild our Tower um and we'll have a different look in a few years it's going to be a little cramped in the booth this year but uh uh we now got a 90 plus million dollar project to redo our Tower the next couple of years as everybody looks to kind of grow a revenue streams and we're no different H H is going to be okay Greg rebell is a little bit of a diva and he's he might throw a fit there might be some anger well I had to call two games last year on Greg's shoulders because we we didn't have the the Elbow Room so I just got up on his shoulders I'm gonna be honest now I I Need video proof for that I've seen your size and I know Greg and he's a tough guy but I'm not quite sure he could go to the extent that you've done that we'll feed you well we think we've got one of the best pregame meals going so we'll feed you well that'll be most important you'll be cramped in the booth um but uh you know give us a chances as uh you know we redo that Tower but um guys I think it's going to be an exciting year I know that everybody particularly among the new schools and I think that applies even to the four corner schools coming in um that that that it's going to be an exciting year plenty of storylines um all the all the criticism the Big 12 took over the years and you know I've said this even even with the SEC and the Big 10 to some degree we we might be 16 misfit toys that nobody else wanted but I think we're more harmonious than anybody else in the sense that um you know who's coming who's going and so forth I think we're pretty much settled right now and look forward to it's going to be a great football season with a lot of teams with a chance to win me too Mark Mark appreciate the time we look forward to catching up with you again again you not only you have BYU you got Utah there as well should be fun and look forward to catching up with you again here very soon thanks Mark okay guys take care bye bye Central Florida play-by-play voice Mark Daniels so of all the play-by-play voices that I've gotten to know Mark is a very serious individual more serious than Greg I I could tell that yeah because you could you could tell Mark was pretty much done with that conversation at the end of it it wasn't quite Governor Cox like see you guys out but it was like all right we're done here we're not we're not going to mess around anymore sounds good thanks guys see you like I think Mark actually wants video proof that I called the games from Greg shoulders I I because he's a serious dude he's like well in that case what we need to contact those booths and maybe file a complaint because nobody should be calling games on anybody's shoulders that's that's not safe I I have in fact only called one game on Greg's shoulders although he carries me on his shoulders with every game you exaggerated slightly it was just one game it wasn't two it was the West Virginia game what was the worst Booth you were in my notes kept hit hitting him in his forehead the worst Booth yeah last year Texas Texas was Texas yeah you know what's funny is those big stadiums like LSU is single-handedly the worst Press Box I've been in Texas is miserable LSU was the most miserable experience of my entire life well it's decorated a little better with a with a yeah yeah it did have your U dream catcher yeah it is decorated a little better now okay I'm going to give you a perspective on the Texas Booth okay thinking now ble Stadium yeah and you think of that main media area yeah where they've got the seats and you know how there's the forer kind of behind it where they set up the catering yeah if you were to build a booth about 30 feet behind that main media section and make it narrow but back about 30 feet that's where that Texas Booth was so I actually had to lean forward to try to get a view of the southern end zone yeah and Greg and I got in there we're thinking this can't be right yeah they are going to give us visibility right nope no they did not and that BYU Texas game was so good we talk about Oklahoma and Oklahoma State BYU was in that Texas game dude I know I'm telling you you go back to that BYU season there's a lot of could have should have would is there you had one last season that you were like on the opposite end you couldn't see the fil was that that was Hawaii two years ago oh was that rough Yeah well yeah was that that makeshift we were in a we were in a trailer essentially because they and and it had no view of the scoreboard I had zero view of a scoreboard get your get your Stadium going in why yeah you can't do that like you had to open the door look out the door to see the time pictures and I was just like come on you sent me a picture and I was like wow yesh yeah uh West Virginia put you on the corner of the end zone oh that sucks but you're up high but you're on the corner of the end zone yeah that's no good hate that hate that some of my favorite perch was Kansas yeah love the Kansas call like you know you're going to go to Wyoming and and the booth itself is not nice but the view is perfect you're right there on the Midfield stripe you're going to have the whole layout of the stadium or the field in front of you it's an easy game to call yeah now look is there going to be a bunch of dead flies and and uh is it going to smell weird yeah but that's okay you don't care about that you want the right you want a good and empty corn dog sticks yeah you can you can work with that stuff mustard stains on the wall step on a horse Apple I'll tell you one of the stadiums I hate to call from is the Las Vegas Raiders oh I know it sucks everybody thinks like uh yeah everybody thinks NFL stadiums are awesome no they're miserable sucks they put you in a bad spot like like we're uh Utah State's playing um uh Temple at uh the link uh Philadelphia Eagle Stadium I'm everybody's like oh there not going to be so much no I already know it's going to be miserable I'm going to be at a bad angle we're going to be way up high a is going to be running around like a chicken with his head cut off trying to figure out how to connect down to the field it's going to take an hour to get down to the field my Signal's not going to reach it's it's going to be miserable give me Fresno State any day over that the Allegiant was bad yeah to call games from I've called four games in there every one of them Mis and every one of them well I don't want to get a the Trade Secrets but every one of them the onfield mic ends up going yep bunkers and then you end up makes shifting away and you know how the makeshift is and that's stupid yep 100% all right 233 hands and Scotty 975 the KSL Sports Zone will spin the wheel sports roulette next hey bro you hear us every day with our crazy opinions hey going to have a role in the movie oh gez of course he is why Adam Sandler and I don't know why they asked him like Travis Kelce why not put him in it and the Kelsey bro takeover well okay so wherever Travis Kelce goes Millions upon millions of fans will go with him as long as he's hitched his wagon to t- Swizzle everybody will be paying attention to Travis Kelce and I know that drives you nuts but it it is what it is so now he is he's got his own series that's going to be started soon that's called are you smarter than a celebrity have you heard about this no I'm not it's going to be a game been confirmed that he's doing a major action comedy film oh jeez where he's one of the lead roles Lloyd this is good news for us this is good news for us it better be because you know his mind's not on football you know how Bronco football comes fifth for Travis Kelce football comes like 72 right now talking about Denver bronos football we're talking about Bronco yeah so Travis Kelce you think football's fifth e further down way down we've seen him everywhere I just saw Jason which I like Jason Kelce I I love that guy he just did a commercial with uh Vince wilfor with uh what is it Kingsford Charcoal yeah but you know the great thing about Jason is he knew like hey look I got other things I can be doing I don't have to sacrifice my body I'm just going to get out of football and I'm just going to uh cash in on my brother's Fame and celebrity right now and so so at least he's not hurting the Eagles by all his commitments I guess that podcast they do they're selling that sucker to somebody for just a ton of money too it's probably worth a ton they see and do a lot lot of celebrities lot of big things right oh yeah they're they're in the mix on a lot of craziness you and it's entertaining like it's a good podcast it's funny I have not listened to a podcast yet I've listened listen I have not listened to the whole thing the cuts yeah yeah the cuts are yeah are good they're they come strong on stuff they're intriguing yeah um but yeah he's gonna be on Happy gim War I I am excited though happy gim War I I actually tweeted at Shooter McGavin today oh yeah yeah you want me made and released and it's Ben Steeler telling an old woman she just pulled Landscaping Duty because they're all going to be elderly oh yeah oh yeah Adam Sandler's near elderly uh Adam Sandler is the same age as the woman was that played Granny in the orig no I'm but not far off well he's at least the age of the Mr Mister oh yeah easy get this thing off of [Laughter] me did you okay so Adam is and I was just like wait what yeah you can't believe anything you see on the internet now Adam Sandler has done a lot of trash yeah and and it's crazy because I get sucked into his movies and I'm sitting there at whatever it was 12 crazy days and 12 crazy nights or whatever that stupid thing was yeah I didn't watch that one what was the one where he played the brother and the sister I don't know that one but there was that little Nikki where he was like the son of Satan and I'm like that's where he lost me on that one but I'm gonna watch oh we'll watch it I'm G to watch Happy Gilmore too so I watched uh uh what was it a couple years ago the sequel to Coming to America came out and I was so I love Coming to America and watched that and it was complete trash one of the worst movies I've ever seen I refuseed to watch it because of the original however however I did watch the sequel to um or the next Beverly Hills Cop that Eddie Murphy just did a couple months ago that wasn't bad it wasn't great but it wasn't horrible it was it was one of those where like okay I watch that that's 2 hours in my life I don't regret spending with this show I won't watch it again but you know there were a couple good laughs and a couple Throwbacks to the Old Beverly Hills Cop movies so you mean you're not going to fall for the banana on the tel pipe yeah so I mean it was good I didn't hate that I didn't hate it now coming to America that was that was awful all of his movies Sandy Wexler the doover the cobbler click Blended um Jack and Jill that was the one I was talking about Just Go With It Funny People bedtime stories You Don't Mess with the Zohan I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry stop me when I hit one that you like uh he's let's just say he's on a bit of a dry streak holy C there was some some Netflix show with him and Jennifer Aniston that we I watched a year or so ago that wasn't bad oh I know you're talking it wasn't horrible is that uncut gems no uncut gems I think he was up for an Academy Award for that it was a serious movie was that murder mystery murder mystery yeah I mean it was you'd hate it don't watch it I will give him a thumbs up for hustle hustle was good yep you're right forgot about hustle it was good yep all right one more spin it Lloyd B nose B nose you're right Lloyd B knows starting you're buying into this now are you Lloyd is all in on I put a question mark on there uh yeah Bo Nicks named the starting quarterback um not gonna lie I wasn't a huge fan of that pick in the NFL draft thought it was way too soon for B Knicks but has been incredibly productive uh efficient in the early preseason games and uh today was named the starter for the Broncos for week number one so in terms of whether or not Isa or Zack Wilson will be on the roster uh the uh coach was asked if he will carry three quarterbacks he says he is not decided yet um but Shawn pyton said that uh they would like to keep three quarterbacks he doesn't know if he has that luxury to keep three quarterbacks but yesterday in an interview was asked about some of his depth at quarterback and boy he gave all kinds of love to Zach Wilson this freaking Zach Wilson now the last week and a half that's great I grabbed him and I said look I just want you to focus on having fun and playing my job is to make you Millions either with us or for another team wow his last two weeks have been been outstanding yeah that means he's out that means he's out okay or for another team or he's like he's amazing guys all you GMS out there this dude is just killing it give me a seventh round pick for him please here's the deal Zach Wilson could walk away from this freaking Zack Wilson now this freaking Zach Wilson he could walk away from the great game and he'll be financially set the rest of his life it's yep let get off his back and but a lot of his contract's guaranteed isn't it uh he still has a lot of money left on that contract yeah so they're gonna have to find a way to move him yep but he wasn't named the number two he didn't was right uh they've not there's not a dep official depth chart yet okay all right 249 hands of Scotty we'll wrap this thing cooker here in about two two and a half hours and it's go time I also have another Frozen ice cream that's ready to be mixed and Blended yes is there a like a anything to crumble in that that's tasty or low fat or and not lowfat oh I told you I put some of that Christmas crack in there oh that would be insane oh was great yeah that toffee that kind of that kind of ruined the original intent of the whole thing but it was worth it I was thinking maybe some crushed Nilla wafers but those are high cards oh yeah those are terrible if you would like to bring in some more of that I did you did you beehive meals yes beehive meals beehive meals.com it's just this big bag that's frozen and it's all fresh chopped up ingredients nothing has been cooked there aren't a ton of preservatives that are stuffed into it you're not heating up a TV dinner you're actually it's frozen and you're cooking the meal but the best part about it you don't have to chop up the cilantro and chop up the onions and chop up the peppers and chop up the chicken like a lot of these meal preps or me meal delivery it's all done and it's in a frozen bag and you put it in a crock pot and you got insane meals like delicious satisfying meals and it's it's cool because a lot of us whether it's school or coming home from the show or Jenny coming home from from her obligations we all kind of hit at about the same time yeah and that door opens up and you get that wave of that smell of what's been going in and you're like let's go beehive mills.com use promo code The Zone $12.80 off yep all right JJ and Alex
