Well hey, Union hotel workers in the heart of Seattle have authorized a strike. >> So we've told you about these ongoing contract negotiations. They've been trying to complete. Fox Thirteen's Jackie Torres is live for us this morning out west in Seattle with more on what they're asking for. Hi, Nikki. >> Good morning. This is day one of a two day strike. It actually just started at five this morning. There are a few dozen hotel workers who are outside of western Seattle right now. And they have been chanting all morning long what they have been wanting and essentially what their message this morning is that they have one job and that is enough. Just take a look at all of the hotel workers this morning. There are a couple other hotels within the area that are taking part as well. So you have the Western Seattle here, but there are also workers on strike at the Seattle Airport Hilton and the DoubleTree Seattle Airport. There were more than 700 workers who voted in favor of this strike. This was after months of unsuccessful negotiations with various hotels within the city. Hotel employees tell us their contracts expired months ago. At the end of May. So now the union is calling for better wages, workloads and better work protections on its social media account. Unite here Local eight, the union organization. They have been very outspoken online and we did speak with a couple workers this morning who told us that not only are they understaffed and overworked, it is taking a toll on their bodies physically, and it's making it very difficult to have longevity in this career. >> We need money additional for our salary. We need also the workload and we need also the pension to be pension to pension to be added. Also, if somebody calls out the work of two person is just only one. >> They also tell me this morning with the current salary that they are making and the benefits they receive, it is almost impossible to support their families with the cost of living. There have been cars that have been honking in support of these hotel workers this morning the hotels themselves, they are open, but just working with limited staff. As far as a response from the hotel groups, we did put in emails this morning. We have not received any responses yet, but as soon as we get a reply, we are going to update you here on Good Day Seattle. Also Fox 13 seattle.com. When I spoke with the union organization this morning, they did say that they don't have any plans as of right now. Set in stone to return to the bargaining table again.
