Evacuation orders are in effect right now in Sierra County, as a wildfire continues to burn, the bear fire has burned more than 1500 acres on the west side of Sierra Brooks. Firefighters working to keep away from that community. It's about 20 miles north of trucking and right now, more than 500 homes are under mandatory evacuation orders. ABC tens de to be joins us live with more on this joint firefighting effort in Sierra County. I want you to take a look at the bear fire burning up the ridge line behind me cal fire assisting the National Forest who is the lead agency on the Bear fire. Now, this fire continues to burn north northeast. It has jumped this road which is Smith Neck road that they were using as a containment line. The hot spots are proving to be difficult as these winds push this fire further and faster towards the carton wood burn scar of 1994. The bear fire turning the sky and sun orange over Sierra Brooks. Residents along Smith Neck and Wrangler Road says their paved streets might as well be a cal fire airstrip guideline it looked like for uh era poured out here last night. Five circling lead planes, a lot of helicopters. So they really hit it hard. And c 130 s dropping fire retardant using Smith Neck Road as a containment line as the fire continues to blaze through the Tahoe National Forest heading to the Cottonwood Burn scar of 1994. Greg Brooks has lived up here for 30 years. He remembers that fire. Well, that one was tremendous. That sounded like a freight train. That thing was getting with it. But this one was more spotty Brooks says in 30 years and three fires he has yet to evacuate. Now, he's set with a personal generator. He's one of the 760 homes without power. 286 structures threatened and 536 people impacted. The forest service says more resources are on the way. Several hotshot crews that specialize in the most difficult and dangerous fires have been digging line for hours in the steep terrain of the forest. It was a red flag warning and fire activity exhibited rapid rate of spread due to the winds which was difficult for firefighters to get a handle on fire activity did moderate overnight with lower temperatures and the winds dying down. So crews were able to get in some dozer and hand line and additional resources came in today. So hopefully improvement will be made the bear fire sparked at two pm Monday along the side of a road. It was not near a campsite and the cause of the fire is undetermined. Well, that's 1000 gallons of water falling on to the ridge line from the cal fire helicopter hawk that you can hear flying overhead. We did confirm with the forest service that one firefighter had to be pulled off the lines today because they were experiencing dehydration. But they were expected to make a full recovery reporting live from Sierra County in the Bear fire de to be ABC 10. Not an easy fire fight. One, we will continue to track. Thank you.
