The Amazing Race Canada Season 10 Winners Interview Katie and Taylor

[Music] we're coming Jo we're coming oh my God oh my God go go [Applause] go we do it we do it oh [Applause] my okay well welcome back Katie and Taylor you know it it's crazy last week I was speaking to you both as a finalists um contestants and now you guys are the winners of uh season 10 of Amazing Race Canada and I think both of you have been on quite a journey from almost being eliminated to um winning in your own Hometown um so you know now that you've had a little bit of time to kind of let it sink in um how has the ity of your Victory like really hit you still hasn't sunk in it is still so surreal to us um we're over the moon our friends family they're all over the moon like we still can't believe it actually happened and I don't know if we ever will it's just the amount of support that we have not like not just from friends and families just the country yes people all across Canada and it's just unbelievable seriously can't stop smiling today I'm like like both of us are going to have to how how tough was it to keep it a secret it wasn't really that hard honestly like we wanted our family and friends to go through our experience the exact same way we did we wanted to take them through the ups through the Downs through the inet um so really it just was as easy as saying stay tuned stay tuned you know one more week you know oh like stay tuned next week tune in on Tuesday so I think it made it easy for us to that way and you as much as our family like they they ask us like tell us tell us they don't really want to know you know they they want to be on the edge of their seat they want to be excited eager to see each episode as they come yeah I mean you know looking especially like we we were taken on for such a journey um looking back at kind of the final leg um what was kind of going through your guys' mind when you guys realized you were in the lead um were there any moments that you thought um the wind might slip away because I feel like everyone was so neck and neck especially at the end with the uh where like the twins even caught up to the the puzzle the memory Challenge and yeah what was going through your guys' mind at that time I think honestly we really tried to focus and you know what this run our own race you know as much as your are the other teams are there you you you can't give all your attention to them otherwise you're not going to be fully present in what you're doing so we really just tried to you know what this is the last time we're going to be able to run this race you know so let's leave it all out there leave it all on the mat and see where it takes us yeah the thing is too is like we didn't even know we were in the lead like we were leaving that museum thinking we were in second or even further behind so we had no idea even coming down the stairs like it was complete an utter shock you see on our faces we just couldn't believe it was Katie looked at John she's like pinch me and I'm like wait we're number we're number one like it was we were genuinely shocked we could not believe it yeah no I mean we can definitely see it in all the emotions um especially at the end I was just like I was I like even felt I like look at all that joy in your guys' face um I mean obviously winning the race is a huge accomplishment um what do you what have you learned kind of as you about yourselves as individuals or just as a team kind of throughout this whole experience my gosh I mean as a team throughout this whole experience we realized like we knew we were going to be able to work well together but we didn't realize how well we were going to be like honestly it was just so amazing getting to see our communication and how we constantly supported each other no matter what was happening and we were constantly uplifting cheering each other on like it just the amount of love and support that we showed one another throughout this entire race really goes to show like who we are as people and like who we are together as best friends and like I think it was just just seeing that friendship grow and us come become like way stronger competitors after elim almost elimination you you know it was phenomenal to see that and at the end of kind of when you guys actually won I um you guys did your mant Mantra is uh strong is beautiful how do you hope um your win will kind of inspire others especially um young female athletes watching at home I'd say right especially because we are that the second all female team to win The Amazing Race Canada and that's a big deal and we really want to prove to girls and girls in sport you know that you can do anything you set your mind to that you know what especially us in a male dominated sport that you know what the sky is the limit you know anything is possible and we want to be those role models we we want to be something people look up to and I really think we we were our genuine selves and we did that through our journey on the race I mean I mean of course winning the um Amazing Race Canada must you know open new doors for you guys um what's kind of next for you whether that be in a professional or personally now that you kind of both completed the Amazing Race Canada I mean go a lot of people keep asking that as you know it's it's a big question um but you know we keep saying you know this is a step in you know whatever is going to set us up for the rest of our life and you know I've been working with an indigenous uh nonprofit sport Organization for the last few years and I've been working really closely on this one program so I'm really hoping to kind of like split that program off from the organization and create its own nonprofit or or business or whatever to basically get more sport um into rural indigenous communities um or work with them to make it happen even quicker you know so um that's kind of what I'm thinking what's next for me at least but yeah and I definitely think you know just for both of us it's like this is a huge step like in our lives like what an incredible journey and just to have you know obviously it's a good chunk of change you know like that can make a huge difference in our lives and you know we're both recent graduates you know we well Taylor's just about done her Masters and we're just getting going on life you know I feel like we're we're still young and we got a lot ahead of us and just having completed this and being the winners it's it's unbelievable and I just cannot wait to see where it takes us I'm also you know I'm really excited to see what's next for you both as well um so I mean my final question is after traveling across Canada and just kind of experiencing this whole journey together um what would you say is like the one thing from the race that will kind of always uh like a fond memory that kind of always uh stick with you or like anything specific honestly maybe this might not be very specific but I'd say in general like just how much I appreciate our country you know it is beautiful like we have all these beautiful places in our own backyard you know and everybody feels like they have to go outside of Canada to see something Grand something beautiful but we have so many places that you know some that we might have been to that I could not believe like you know I'm so grateful where this journey has taken us and the places we got to see that never it was just hon a breathaking adventure yeah I think for me it was like you know again not nothing specific like everything on the race was phenomenal and such a unique experience but I think for us you know we really tried to be present and enjoy every single moment and you know live every moment within the race like it was our last day and even up until when we almost got eliminated like we were still racing regardless of what was going on we were like it's not over till you see John at the mat and he tells you that you're done so I think for us it was just being present and laughing smiling having fun throughout the race and having literally no regrets or any Stones unturned you know I mean listen you guys I think I think everyone can also see that like you guys honestly brought so much joy and um emotion throughout the whole journey and it was like I was rooting for you guys all the way I was like look at that you guys are so I was so worried you guys are going to get eliminated that week I'm like look at them they came out in top and that's the way to do it so um congrats again on the win and um thank you guys so much for your time I hope you I don't know if you guys went on any of your trips yet but I hope when you do you have like The Best Time Ever So yeah thank you guys so much okay
