prices are more expensive than the counties around them and welcome to a warm weekend as temperatures go back into the mider 80s details in a few minutes dedicated to Eastern and Southern Kentucky this is WMT M News at [Music] 6 a popular team dressed in blue was helping build some homes in Perry County Today wt's Chan WILX tells us how that Kentucky Wildcats help build homes beloved team is looking to invest back into the state today's been a really fun day cuz the Kentucky Wild Cats is helping us build our our house making the trip from Lexington Kentucky basketball players and coaches came to Perry County they partnered with the Housing Development Alliance to help build homes no this isn't a regular for me but I'm enjoying it I'm learning a lot they rotated between four homes with one particular home they spend a lot of time framing hammering in nails and raising walls it's really really really awesome it really is the home is being built for the Robertson family who were searching for Higher Ground after the July 202 to flood Eastern Kentucky native Trent Noah was proud to lend a hand uh while being on a Kentucky basketball team to build houses and and help the flood victims out it really just is uh it's an honor head coach Mark Pope says the team is dedicated to looking Beyond themselves Kentucky basketball is way bigger than Kentucky basketball and so and um so we're we're trying to learn and grow and become something as individuals in a group they look to continue serving the community you know we're going to be doing it all year doing a bunch of different things to help out people and you know reach out with the community making a difference beyond the basketball court in Perry County Chand Cox WMT Mountain news and the team is sticking around for a bit in Perry County right now they're at the Perry County Park meeting folks in the community wt's Amilia Lee is there of course we are gearing up for the start of Friday Night Lights as high school football is upon us but the Kentucky Wildcats men basketball team is getting excited for their season as they're here right behind me actually having fun at the Perry County Park and getting to know some of their fans folks are all out here this evening and getting ready to know some of these basketball players Christy bogs with Club blue says they were inspired to ask the wild cats to come to the park after the team spent most of the morning helping to build houses in Perry County she says it's just so great to meet the team um so we're really excited to have the team out and just get them to meet the community for such a good kickoff to the basketball season I am told by staff that there's enough food to feed approximately 1,500 people and that food's getting here around 6:00 there's also Inflatables swag and of course a chance to meet the wild cats I mean there was just so much excitement as the small group gathered at the big blue bus as the wild cats were dropped off at 5:00 of the two people killed in a crash in clayber County Tennessee in the preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol it indicates 18-year-old Dustin Jenkins II was was the driver of the Subaru SUV the passenger that was killed in the crash was 23-year-old James Marcy both men were from Tennessee the crash happened late Wednesday evening a man once pardoned by former Governor Matt bevon was back in a Lexington courtroom for a new set of charges Court Kurt Smith was 17 when he was accused of killing his six week old son and was given a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 20 years but he got out sooner than that this time he's accused of a graphic assault detailed in an arrest document an assault that left his victim with a traumatic brain injury and needing surgery on her left arm it's not what people should expect from their government and uh certainly that's why I've continue to propose changes to the Constitution Kurt Smith's trouble with the law is not limited to 2001 and this year in 2010 he was convicted on charges connected to a riot at the Northport training center near Danville which carried a 5-year sentence a Lee County Virginia man was convicted on multiple rape charges Daniel vanover of Pennington Gap was convicted on 11 charges of rape after a multi-day trial in Lee County Circuit Court in a statement the Lee County commonwealths attorney declined to provide specific details due to the nature of the case but stress the importance of protecting the victims and ensuring that Justice is served vanover is said set to be sentenced on September 20th a Warren County man is facing charges after police found drugs on him during a traffic stop in Laurel County Police pulled over 47-year-old Dennis Addison of Bowling Green yesterday the arrest occurred approximately 10 miles from London a k9 was utilized to search Addison's vehicle and suspected hydrocodone was found Addison was taken to the Laurel County correctional center a Floyd County woman is facing charges after police found drugs on her the incident came about when Rosalyn Hamilton reportedly made a turn without using her turn signal on Monday when police asked her if she had anything illegal in her vehicle she said she did not after she got out of the vehicle police found Gaba Penton oxycodone Xanax and other paraphernalia Hamilton was taken to the Floyd County Jail a hazard man was arrested after he reportedly violated a grave deputies with the Perry County Sheriff's Office were called out to 145 Happy Hill Lane about a potential trespassing incident last week after police arrived they found Richard feltner who had reportedly tried to dig up his father's grave at Rest Haven Cemetery police later observed there had been approximately twoot hole that was dug up he was taken to the Kentucky River Regional Weather Jail well as advertised we had temperatures today in the 70s and 80s made it to 84 in Ashlin 83 was the high in Jackson made it to 82 in Hazard 81 Manchester 88 was the high in Somerset 77 and wise Clintwood made it to 75 degrees and right now Clintwood uh bumped up a few degrees we're at 80 so that number is going to go up a little bit we're at 81 Pikeville hazard's at 82 Jackson's at 83 prestonburg is at 84 Manchester is at 85 86 and Somerset you go over towards the Morehead area over towards Ashlin again around 84 to GRE and we are FEMA The Disaster Center will open as soon as Monday the disaster Center will be set up at Redline fire truck sales in Cor the working hours for the center will be from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday the mobile center is for those who are impacted by severe storms that happen between May 21st through the 27th concerns about gas prices in Saville have City officials begging for a conversation wmt's buddy forb spoke to the councilman who is driving the effort to bring people to the table hoping to bring fuel prices down city of officials say Saville's drivers are running on fumes rumbling about it you know they're just upset about it they have to pay you know a lot of other check you know times are hard wondering why the county with the state's highest unemployment rate is also seeing the most expensive prices at the pump you know hardworking people here and you got people here in town and that you know work in town they can't go out of town get gas you know got and it's just bad with gas prices at the stations in city limits fluctuating between $337 and and $341 per gallon while neighboring communities 10 Mi away are getting the same gas for more than 20 cents less I asked the mayor to to send a letter out to the owners representatives of the gas companies here in sville and uh he sent a letter out and invited him to a city council meeting to uh address our concerns but no representatives for the gas stations showed up to the meeting and city council member Paul Montgomery says he is now more fueled up than ever to get a response for his community NOP he sent the letters out they they received the letters uh no response back from no one he says it is unfair to the people of mofen County to blindly pay more without knowing why I can understand if there's underlying factors but to just for us be 30 cents higher than 15 mies down the road that's just wrong but tell us why so he plans to keep pumping for the information in moffen County buddy Forbes Wy and Mt Mountain news while the gas station Representatives have no obligation to respond to the city's request to be heard City officials say they hope someone will give a clear
