Updates, Answers, and Observations for the Albany at WVU Game, Vesterinen Injury

[Music] well it is to the best of my knowledge Sunday afternoon which means it is time for Sunday answers when I take a look at what I thought would be key questions for the Albany game and whether or not I had a clue what I was talking about well maybe so maybe not uh this is WVU football going deep and I'm Forest Poston if I know what I'm talking about ah well I'm still Forest Poston even if I don't know what I'm talking about uh first quick update from some of the press conferences they did last night I thought some of those would wait until Monday I didn't know what I was talking about did okay uh well biggest news is that Eddie Vester renan is out for a few weeks that's all we know right now they did do an MRI got that back but we'll have to wait until Monday for more detailed information definitely going to hurt hurts the team depth wasn't bad at that position but this does really complicate things and we were all looking forward to a big season for him and he was starting to think about you know working his way into uh NFL Camp well uh if he misses a few games and we do have a by week in there uh maybe you know won't hurt too much if it turns out he's out for the season I think he has a red shirt uh and I assumed that he would use it uh but we'll have to wait and see how that all plays out uh most of the other press conferences were pretty pretty standard uh but I CJ Donaldson is a good interview and he has clearly matured in his time here and he said youo been and Morgantown WVU for 3 years and he's starting to forget he's from Miami you got to like that that kid has bought in you know he you the basically you know the culture is in him he's in the culture uh I hope he has a bit of a career in the NFL and I think he'll succeed at whatever he does after that but I'm kind of kind of hoping that it's coaching and I hope at least part of that turns out to be at WVU I think he has something special but it's something special that could be used in a whole lot of ways so as usual it's going to be up to him to figure out what it is that is really in him to do and follow that what Joseph Campbell called follow your bliss which sounds so easy and isn't now uh move on to the questions as soon as I say now that you are so impressed with my knowledge and wit uh please share subscribe uh make comments click the thumbs up click the notification actually look at that today so hopefully there's been some improvement there but if you guys try really hard you can get me there in a hurry uh carry me if you must oh Lord no please that's oh believe me I'd be asking a lot if we took that literally meanwhile uh first thing in the questions I said it was a Get Right game did they get right yes and no offense got real right um garri was what 177 of 23 I think that puts him over the 70% completion rate uh which is what he wanted and the passes were varied I didn't realize until it was brought up in one of the press conferences seven touchdowns each scored by a different player now I said with the wide receivers you know instead of having a number one you you want to make sure they don't know who to try to double cover well looks like that's what they're doing uh the ball was all over the field and seven different players who scored from various distances there were you know couple of longish scores and some nice right down on the goal line uh White and Donaldson runs so definitely Red Zone work was better short yard yardage work was better so the offense got right the defense they got off to a fast start uh particularly against the Run they held up against the run right up until the fourth quarter with just a couple of exceptions and that was against you know the number three lineman uh who will see more play with Vester Ren and out uh now I should have you know with Vester renan uh we'll likely see more of Redwood and we'll see more of Jackson just how they shift guys around have to wait and see but that's a couple of really good players um I I'd like to see more of Redwood and Jackson because I think they're both you know very good just didn't want it to happen this way uh but it like it hurt but more in terms of depth than necessarily uh a serious drop off in the uh first line players next up that's that's the mentality and it'll work um but when Albany went to the passing game the defensive back fi did not get right but based on what the coaches have said what some other people have observed I think it is primarily just that first moment that decision making uh at the snap and a hair slow that's the sort of thing that you should get better at and they were playing a vanilla defense against a lesser team I mean the opposite problem of Penn State you know Penn State you you can get too hyped and too high Albany it's hard to get that edge and I and when you when you play vanilla sometimes the adrenaline just doesn't flow the same so I'm I mean I'm thinking you and I mean the most of these guys are fairly new to the system some of them got here in Fall I mean in Spring uh others not until late summer so I expect that to improve Ste well I'm not going to say steadily hopefully it's going to make a really quick jump uh this week uh and I think I think it will and keep in mind that three or four of the big passes were not coverage issues they were just a quality throw and a quality catch um and if the coverage had been absolutely perfect could have stopped it but the coverage was very good and the ball went the one spot where the def defense couldn't get it so credit to Albany I mean keep in mind you know their main receiver and their quarterback are both P4 transfers so um you know when you're going up against an FC FCS team it does not necessarily mean you're going up against lesser players lesser Talent um who would play I was I was pretty far off on that uh now Coach Brown did say he wanted he wished and wanted to get more guys in but the way the game played out the opportunities weren't there uh didn't have that many uh drives on offense partly because the defense let Albany have too many drives uh but yeah the guys who got in I mean you know first ring played more than three quarters they were playing into the fourth quarter uh then we did see Markel one drive I expected to see marel for a quarter and possibly Ry or Burton for a quarter well that didn't happen didn't come close uh dunar got in when marel was in that was it he didn't get a touch and we didn't see hubard at all or Ash and uh didn't get Brandon Raymond in yeah well uh we'll all survive I suppose uh question was would they get Gallagher more involved yes they did Gallagher caught a couple of passes of you know farther downfield I mean you know we're not talking about go R go routes but we are talking about more than just a screen pass and it was a good look you know so I think you know we will see more and more of that but I don't think we will see a lot of it in any one game because the ball will tend to go to at least five and usually seven different receivers every game we're going to see that a lot we're going to see a lot of games where receivers have one to three catches and if somebody gets four or five in a game I think that'll be pretty unusual it will happen you just because somebody gets hot you know and uh yeah that's the way it works but we got the new guys involved Robinson had the touchdown Bray had a nice long catch so I like the way that played out uh they did play with a better Rhythm overall defense got pressure they didn't bring a I mean they weren't bringing Five Guys a lot they brought four fairly often and the defense is set up so that four is kind of a normal number uh you're just not sure who the fourth one will be so it's not really a blitz if they bring four five or more becomes a blitz in this this defense uh and they didn't they didn't do that a lot um biggest problem was they didn't get quarterback containment they've got to correct that um and some you know sometimes it was defensive end not coming in or coming in too you know uh too deep an angle other times you know one defensive end comes in right and the quarterback rolls the other way and there's nobody there so have to correct that I'm not sure who wasn't there on those plays uh you know whether it would have been the spur Bandit whatever uh or the other end but we got to fix it um think that were you know I think those were the main questions uh I think I was mostly right on what key questions were I just wasn't right in what I thought a lot of the answers would be I thought more of the answers would be positive uh but I am I'm still high on this team I'm still high on the defense uh it's you know two games things aren't perfect you know that's why the NFL played you know still plays several pre-season games uh they keep cutting it back uh but this week tells us a lot pit seems to be pretty good don't expect them to be great this season but they they're good so it will be a tougher contest than Albany not as tough as Penn State and I don't think we will be as out of balance as we were for Penn State but sharper on defense more excited than we were for Albany uh so I probably you know see what they do with the uh press conferences on Monday what information we get if we have information about Vestor renan I will update that possibly do more and we will have the trying to do a video about the 12 team playoff how that works uh how West Virginia does or doesn't get in from year to year that sort of thing and then the Sunday
