Talking With Kenneth Grant and Mason Graham Dave thank you so much yeah here with a couple of guys who keep opposing offensive coordinators up at night the best defensive tackle duo in the nation and it is not close gentlemen the standard was set we were just looking at some of the numbers from what you guys were able to do from a defensive perspective a year ago we know what the standard is here what is different or what would you say how is this camp at this point different than a year ago uh I mean just knowing that we don't have the depth as we had last year but just knowing that we got to get our young guys together and you know just get the really get the young guys together get in shape and get the young guys together so I mean just all all the little details are still the same you know want to be a tough fast defense so I mean the the culture hasn't changed but just the way we prepare and get ready yeah depth was the thing that you guys really had on this defense last year and and Mason for you just with weak Martell coming in it's the same system but we imagine that his personal is going to show up in this a little bit what have you noticed about your new defensive coordinator yeah I just feel like it's all going to be basically the same steam but obviously um different coordinators have their own spin to it um whatever that may be but coach wink definitely has his own spin to it and um you know he'll see stuff he likes throughout the game and you know call that accordingly so we're just going to trust what he calls and play the way we've been playing for Michigan football Yeah you mentioned getting the young guys and bringing that depth tell me about some of the young guys that stepped up uh first start off with the dine Anda uh he's doing a really good job you know moving from the outside to the inside getting getting a couple pounds she's in a 300 club now so that's good but uh Ana Trey Pierce uh Ike AA um some of the guys on on the defensive line that really got the need so they've been stepping up pretty good you know you guys got an interesting perspective going against this offensive line they lost a lot last year but how has this group come along man I feel like there isn't much drop off you know all the guys I feel like coach new is doing a good job um coaching these guys up every day and you know it's all the same stuff these guys have watched the older guys last year come through so they know what to do and uh I have confidence in the line to get done are there any differences between Coach Harbaugh and Coach Moore just personality wise it it stick out to you or is it everything just the same I mean uh everything pretty much just the same I mean the only thing uh that's different uh is really just the music you know we play more music I was getting ready to ask yeah a little more music going on yeah we play a little bit more music but I mean he's just happy to be around us coach MO is happy to be around us I mean it's just it's like having a best friend that you just you could just talk to anything about it almost seems unfair that you guys could be playing on the on the same defensive line for other opposing teams anyways what is it like and I'd like for you both to answer this what do you admire most about Mason's game and what do you admire most about canace game I feel like I mean I feel like I said this earlier in an interview like a few weeks ago I saided kind of like peanut butter and jelly like we work off each other um we both have our own strengths that we use you know I know some of his strengths he knows mine so I mean I feel I feel like it's really easy to play off each other and plus with with the edge guys we have on the edge um it only makes it easier for us to do what we want to do yeah I say like yeah like he said we're PE but peanut butter and jelly but I mean just one of his strengths that I think he's really good at is football IQ really smart smart guy you know he at practice he'd be calling out the plays and then off the offense just looking like like like what are you doing like he know he already knows the place so I mean yeah pretty good the real question though is who's peanut butter and who's jelly I mean the or do you even like it yeah I don't like it but I mean just neither do opposing opposing quarterbacks they don't like it either uh gentlemen we're looking forward to to seeing how this defense comes together in this team congratulations on an amazing run and looking forward to seeing what's next thank you all right coach there's a lot I want Talking With Kirk Campbell to ask you about like your history and gr with Pittsburgh and all those elements but you don't have time I know we have time for that we'll do we'll do that on a podcast or something like that coach uh so let's talk about this team you know this team you've known this team what have you learned learn though about them through 17 practices in training camp yeah I think we're starting to learn who the leaders are of the offense um you know we lost a lot of depth a lot of talent uh lot lot of play time on the offens side of the ball um the grit the determination uh the hard-nosed football that we play here at the University Michigan hasn't changed um but we're learning the leaders coulston Loveland Donovan Edwards you know somage Morgan um really stepping up for us okay so let's talk about the quarterback room I don't know if you're going to let us know who's going to win the job but how are you evalu Val ating that room how are you assessing the confidence in that room to make sure when guys do play they're playing on that Razor's Edge of their absolute best yeah so first off we pride ourselves on making sure we're the most prepared unit in the country stepping on on the practice field the game field um when whenever whenever the bullets are flying for us um so that that's important to make sure that hey they are there are they going to the right reads are they using the proper footwork um which they've done an outstanding job of that um but you know we evaluate every single snap um as far as footwork um assignment ball handling drop accuracy um and then we evaluate them outside of the football uh the classroom and on the football field how they are in the weight room you know coach Justin trest or head strength coach gives us daily reports on what they're doing there how they're around their teammates who's the best leader because at the end of the day um you have to select the guy that the players want to play for want to be surrounded by and U we're just making sure we make the best decision there so within all those things that you evaluate what are the three most important things I mean I think the first thing is leadership right like you got to have a guy that's a leader you want you want somebody that that follows them as a player as a person um it wants to emulate how how they represent themselves you know on the football field and in life um two would be you know overall execution of the position right are we moving the football right it is it because their legs because their arms we don't care right it needs to be are we moving the football as an offense um and then three is finishing the drives right so like yeah the ball's moving but then you got to put it in the paint um so those are three important things leadership cons consistently moving the football and then scoring points for the offense most most difficult thing about being a play caller um I would say just just making sure you're organized before the game for any situation that could arise um there's so many variables in football um heck it could be you know you have the ball second and goal at the five 30 seconds no timeouts what what are you going to do right at the end of the game you're down you're down eight points what's your two-point call what what what's your what's your touchdowns calls there um you know what if you have to get the ball out of boundary what are what what are your out of bounds plays um so just making sure that you're overly prepared so the players can just go out there and play football yeah today we saw a ton of situational work when we were watching that so many seemed like pending the drive a different position group made a play tight end group seem to convert a bunch of third Downs wide outs on the outside making plays how has the collective offense grown and evolved knowing that there's still a decision be made as the guy who's going to be the quarterback yeah it's a it's a great question I mean we got really good players you know like I said S Morgan Coulson love the tight end room is really deep The Other Guys Tyler Morris in the receiver room you know Donan Edwards it it is evolved in making sure we get those players the football um you know I I truly believe that coaches kind of get in the way sometimes and you got to let your players make the plays so just making sure that we have a constant effort of those guys are primary Targets on football plays and if they're not open the quarterback can just move on but trying to make sure our best players touch the football is is first and foremost as our evolution of our offense you're taking over for uh an offensive coordinator who's now the head coach what what's been his interaction with the offensive staff he's been outstanding I mean Coach Moore and I um so we go back for for 3 years since I've been here I I share an office with him you know the first year we were here we sat no farther away than really were every single day and I got to know him on a personal level um so that that relationship really helps me and then he's very conf I mean he knows the entire system so it's great for me hey let's make sure we get this done or do that so just the added confidence and added support from him has been outstanding um because he's on top of it you know I mean he's extremely sharp um he knows what he wants um we got to it's our job to go out there and execute it have you heard the story he tells about you after the championship game um I i' I've read about it um that's just who I am every day and um you know it's it's just just just so everybody knows he says he went in the office after you won national championship get to get he went to get in something and you were breaking down a tape yelling at a white out I think yelling at the he said how about going home you just won a national champion yeah I mean I I just you know that I just love this game um I I love this game I love my family and I love the University of Michigan so um I just want to make sure we we put the best product out there every every every Saturday appreciate your time coach thank you head coach shiron Moore is Talking With Sherrone Moore with us now and Coach I want to look ahead but we have to look back a little bit on last year and what an unusual situation that was and we had a couple times where we crossed paths while that was going on and I never really asked you about it at the time it felt like you were talking to a pitcher who had a no hitter going you didn't really want to jinx it but how much pressure did you feel knowing how special this season was when you were thrust into that position I mean really the only thing I thought of is don't mess it up every single day I I came here in shamb back H I want to do everything I can to help our team win and just try to do my one my part and uh you know it wasn't just me uh obviously Jesse being a huge part of that on the defensive side Jay Harbaugh and coach and during the preparation the week and the players most importantly those guys just played their tails off every game so it was a team effort and I'm just glad I was a part of it well you were a huge part of it and now it's your program how do you look to put your imprint on Michigan football what's going to be different here I mean I don't want to change much uh when you win you you like to keep the formula the same and I think the culture is in place where we can do that you know we have a lot of the same guys that are here that have been here and you know being here this is going on year seven I've seen the UPS I've seen the Downs I've seen what it looks like and I know what the culture is supposed to look like and when it's successful so really is just trying to keep that aligned and keep that at the right place talk to us about how you built this staff you you know retain four and Elevate some you bring in six new guys and I think one of the things that's most amazing is on the defensive side you've got every single guy in the defensive staff has been a de coordinator so a lot of experience how did you go about what were you trying to do as you built up the staff around you yeah I mean the first thing I wanted was great human beings great people uh and I have that they they just care about the players so much they don't care about you know their own accolades or what they're doing or what they're supposed to what it's supposed to look like for them they really just care about what the players and what this team success is so that was the number one thing and then obviously great coaches and I think at every position you have guys that are you know could be head coaches at some point in their life or uh or have been or been coordinators at different positions you know you start on defense you know win marale is the OG of of the defense we have you know both guys that we've had previously both coach under wi so for me it was a home run to get wink here and he's been out outstanding the kids love him he loves the kids it's just a great match I love being around him the energy that he has is just is unmatchable and all the guys on the defense side the ball have been coordinators um something super special something cool that I've never been a part of and it's really cool cuz they all combine together and they make it their defense so it's going to be pretty fun to watch and then on the offens side of the ball Coach Campbell has done an outstanding job with the offense and really has the same identity and thought processes that I do but has his own twist on it and we'll definitely work collaborative to do that to make it the best offense we can make it everybody wants to know who the starting quarterback is going to be I know you're excited to know that too as you evaluate first of all tell me how you how you feel and how comfortable you are with the group that you have competing right now and what is ultimately going to be the separating factor is there something you're looking for I think the number one thing for us of as we look for those guys is the person that's going to take care of the football um when the pressure situations come are you going to take care of it are you going to keep the team together uh when adversity hits you're going to be a leader for the team and obviously you got to be a playmaker you know with the ball in your hands whether it's with your arm or on the ground and uh I think we got a couple guys that have really taken themselves to that level and it's going to be exciting to to decide who the quarterback is and I think it's always great when you go into a championship run season and you have a couple guys so uh that's what we want to have I know you have a special affinity for offensive line play you guys are in an interesting situation here replacing that group how have you seen this five and the backups as well how have you seen it come together I mean it's been awesome they they really you know in the spring I think they kind of took a step back trying to figure each other out and it's really been all the lines that we've had the past couple years it's it's taken some time for them to really adjust and get together in jail so this this fall Camp I mean you got no choice but to to Buck up against our D line so if you don't you're going to get punched to the mouth all the time so those guys have really done a good job of coming together getting a little Unison and getting in sync and gotten better and better what work needs to be done between now and the season opener I mean we're we're trying to cross all teas out all eyes and make sure we're the best we can be uh enjoy the process you know enjoy being uh attacking the process and being good at attacking the process that's what we want to do and make sure we get better every day last question for you coach we mentioned kind of putting your imprint on it I want to ask that to you in a slightly different way uh Coach Harbaugh there was this certain identity there were I think adjectives that you would use to describe this program when you came away from playing them at their best what are the adjectives that you want people to use to describe a Chiron mored football team yeah together physical tough um love we take care of each other um we do it for the team the team the team and we always will you know those are the things we're always going to do and how we'll how we'll live our Our Lives all right Coach shiron Moore great to visit with you thanks for your time appreciate it man it seems like just yesterday we were Talking With Donovan Edwards talking to you on the recruiting show what's this journey been like for you uh the journey has been amazing honestly I think that uh everything that I've been through has turned me into a man uh I think uh you know all the ups that I've had and the Downs that I had and you know now just staying like like levelheaded and you know just understanding that you know there's going to be very great times there going to be terrible time within your life and honestly a lot of my a lot of that credit goes to Mike har for shaping me into who I am today and Freddy Jackson and Coach B High schol I got a lot of shout out I got a lot of shout outs but I think like those three in particular like in my life they have like really shown me like the ropes and like given me tough love and unconditional love at the same time so you know uh I've I've had a I've had an amazing experience here in Michigan so far if I take you out of all of this and you're just in street clothes and a t-shirt who are you oh I'm a I'm a regular guy um you know not just be vibing you feel me just walking the dog you know uh very much into the good word into the Bible and uh also I think my biggest thing is I want to be able to impact people you know touch the touch the minds and the hearts of others and plant the seed of wisdom and righteousness into their minds even though I'm not perfect myself will never be perfect but you know that's my ultimate thing of life being able to uplift people you know and to be able to connect to people cuz I'm no different than any other person amongst the world you know we're all the same and that's how I look at it you know you've talked about it and you mentioned it earlier you've had that question by the way yeah no problem you've had some that's Rock it's still rolling you feel roll keep that in there keep that in there all right he the man but you've had some struggles for sure and what what's that been like I mean you're on the St everyone looks at you but you've you you've made some mistakes and you've grown from them what's that been like the thing for me is like the times of like you know like things are going your way or adversity that defines who you are and I think that you have two options from it you can either rise from it or you could like crawl in a hole and just hide away in the dark you know what I'm saying but like person like me I always like want to shine like like the sun I want the sun always on you feel me like you know I'm I'm about that life so you know I think that that's kind of just the way that I kind of go about my go about my business I know one of the things you want to do is you want to give to people who are in need and you want to do that based around Building Homes and really affordable housing we talking about that I do my research big guy I do my research I need to know these things about you that's hard yeah yeah yeah yeah so tell me where where did that come from uh it's just that's just what what's in my heart you know I think that everybody has a calling and you know my calling is just continuing to do the best that I can every single day even though like I'm tired you know like they say it's the meeting rooms like I'm my do or the fourth dog it's I still have to give my maximum efforts so like like doing that like the affordable house and or I do like doing a lot of other things like uh like Community work like um you know like research for cancer cuz my mom died from breast cancer or paying for Teacher school supplies cuz I don't think that that's fair that a teacher has to pay their own salary you know from their own salary for school supply I don't think that's fair so it's stuff like that it's just like like I've seen it like my my pops has has done it before so it's things I do amongst my life like where where like I'm very passionate about like real estate like I'm kind of getting it to is like we got people struggling and people like not able to eat or to have or to live where it's like I want to be able to change that so that's where you know I just have like like that that in my heart yeah let's go on the field a little bit let's do it it's been patient you've been patient rather waiting your turn and now it's it's right there in front of you on the field what have you learned about becoming the number one back and also tying Tony Alfred into how he's taking your game to a new level oh for sure I'll say the thing with patience for me is I don't think that God does anything that person can handle right I may have been arrogant ignorant I would have been on the top of my heels maybe I would have maybe I wouldn't but it's times like right now we're like I'm humble like I don't care if like you could call me a running back I don't care I don't I don't look at it that way I want I want all of my running backs to be in in the role of like you know like whoever is in like we're all going to get a fair share of the load and we're going to you know uh we're going to win games and we're going to do the things that for us like you know that's holding up our stand so that's what it is for me like I have that mindset I don't have the mindset of like I want I want the carries I want this about me I don't have that mindset anymore and ta yeah man ta is a detailed machine I think that he's taking the whole running back room along with Freddy J to a whole another level you know U being able to identify things uh you know like looking at safeties and knowing fronts and you know like he's a freak about pass Pro so you know like not letting you get away with that it's it's like we could win the block but like if we don't dominate like he's going to crash out so yeah take care of yeah yeah yeah so you got to you got to be able to do your job but having TA in in the in the running back room has been a joy and you know is I'm very grateful that he's here because you know I've always wanted to to uh play under him and you know for him to be here to really learn you know what kind of man and what kind of Coach he is I wouldn't wouldn't trade him for the world to to have him in the running backs room hey man I appreciate you man taking the time good luck stay healthy and big things for you this year by appreciate you man go Blue oh shout out to hey this he need a raise hold on no not put your hand down man Howard Griers need a raise man Big 10 Network I got to give him a raise as to who might be handing the ball to Edwards that remains up in the Who Will be the Starting QB? air three players competing to be the starting QB Alex orgy Jack Tuttle and Davis Warren they have thrown 214 career passes between them 199 of those by Tuttle who is in his seventh year of college football with prior stops at Utah and Indiana so let's start there and I think we can tell you it's not going to be Jack Tuttle at least initially he's working his way back from an injury so it's a two-man race at quarterback lot of interest obviously in how this plays out you got Davis Warren Alex orgy what did you see today I saw two quarter back that different skill sets I think that's the major problem if you build an offense around Warren if you build one around orgy if you try to mix them in the other problem is unusual for Michigan two of their first four games are Texas and USC so there's some sense of urgency to get the quarterback situation resolved yeah I like what orgy brings to the table right I think if you want to be a more run dominant team and you look at this offensive line I think they're going to be right back where they should be a big dominant uh o line so I think a quarterback that gives you the ability to have that ability is going to give you an opportunity I think against teams like that is does he have to continue to grow as a passer no doubt about it but I want him on the field to so he can continue to gain experience yeah I think it it could be a problem but I think they've been here before with I look at Cade and JJ which each had their own unique skill sets at when JJ was young he was more of a runner where Cade was more of a pocket passer and what I'd expect is I think both these guys are going to play week one I think Orgy at a minimum if he's not the starter will have some packages built what I saw though is you're going against that wink Martin Dale Baltimore Ravens scheme defense very confusing a lot of guys at the line of scrimmage it's not a clean picture so the urgency for these guys is to be mentally sharp a few times today they were waiting for the picture to reveal itself you cannot do that at the college football level and you can't do it against this defense they've got to get to the point where they're mentally seeing things before they happen anticipating it that way they're on time because if you're late when will Johnson's a corner we saw a pick six happen right so the mental aspect is going to be a big big deciding factor in this quarterback battle Yeah again though Jake the last time they were in a situation that you mentioned it wasn't Texas and Southern Cal in the first four games so I think it's I think it's a little different the other thing is when you have two packages obviously each package is a different package and so your Tendencies for a defensive staff become very clear so it's org's in the game this is the four plays they run they don't run the same plays when the when there's another quarterback in there so as the season wears on having a package is a little bit of a problem because the defense can really scheme you and again one of the things you look at last year I mean they played 15 games they had eight turnovers all year so whoever it is the offense wasn't what won them the national championship last year it was the defense that won them the national championship offense was certainly good but you look at the last six games there's only one of them they went over 400 yards that was the national championship game against Washington and of course it's not just about the quarterback you're replacing anent High offensive line here Jake what do you think of the job that they did in getting a fresh five out there yeah so today they weren't in shoulder pads I happened to be here yesterday to see them in full pads which allowed me to get a better idea of the Run game and the physicality and I I always you can close your eyes and hear good football yesterday if you closed your eyes you could hear that Michigan brand of football and the benefit to this offensive line they're going against one of the best defensive lines in college football Kenneth Grant Mason Graham you better be hip to hiip and shoulder-to-shoulder on your double teams right you got Josiah Stewart and Derrik Moore coming off the edge guys like TJ guy you got to be locked in it was a battle yesterday you know there was a few reps where the offensive line was getting pushed they were communicating well up front and then the defense would respond and I think that's exactly what you want to see at this point in Fall Camp yeah I think the offensive line will just be be just fine I think one of the areas they're going to continue to improve there'll be new names at the wide receiver position Tyler Morris I think is set to have a big year whether it's catching passes underneath they can just do so much and be creative with him yeah to go back to the offensive line what you could tell today is they're very athletic which isn't a surprise they've been they're they're going to be a good offens flag speaking of athletic Colston Loveland I defer to our tight end expert uh just to get the final word here man he's something else I think he's their number one weapon he's not just the best tight end in college football I think that he's their best passing option and what a great friendly option for a new quarterback this guy he's 750 yards about away from breaking the career record for reception yards who holds that record I know the guy I know the guy and I I think he can and will do it and I think he'll have to do it to get this passing game six targets a game I think is the minimum quickly he'll be able to dictate what defenses are doing when they move him around a great Point quickly again he doesn't sweat like you do no one sweats like me though no one sweat Jake will always have the record for the most sweat volume produced here in Michigan coach appreciate the time I read an interesting line that you said Talking With Wink Martindale this Summer that college football in the NFL have never been as close as they are now how is that I I just think with uh recruiting first of all and and the nil and you know all those things and uh you know some rules that are coming down the road that it's it's getting closer and closer to it and you know I think that you know the everything's very relative you know everybody wants to make up reasons why you know this is harder than that or that's harder than this and it's football and as you know all the years you've coached it's still a violent game that that uh when you tackle well you usually have a good chance of winning are there any differences between the pro game and a college game and if so what are some of the differences uh I you know I haven't really sat and thought about all those things because you know we've been doing so many situations and you know we've done uh chiron's done a great job as far as preparing us in Camp of all the different uh situations there's a few rule changes you know I was yelling at an official the other day about it was uncatchable and I found out that wasn't uh you know and then I thought the offensive lineman had to report so I got caught up on all that real quick Jerry I was surprised you yelled at an official that doesn't seem like I know it's usually out that's out of my character it's out of character that's what I thought coach we've been about 10 different schools he's been yelling at officials every training camp uh you walked into this environment where the ceiling was really high and the standard was really high and a bunch of guys kicked out from this defense of the NFL curious what you observed when you walked into the building what you learned from the players that are returning to this team well I've been fortunate to you know to know the hard family for a long time I was with John way back in 1996 at University of Cincinnati then I coached for him 10 years in Baltimore and and I was with Jack Harbaugh we won the National Championship down at Western Kentucky so I knew the culture coming in the team the team the team culture it it's got to be fun in the meeting room just learning about the defensive staff everybody including you has been a coordinator at some level what is it like in the meetings as you prepared for this training camp and we got a game less than two weeks away yeah it's it's been it's been a lot lot easier for me I'll tell you that with having guys the three guys that we have with Lou and and BJ and Lamar um you know all with their expertise of the position they coach and plus also being a coordinator so it makes it really enjoyable because it's you know I just yell down the hallway what do you guys want to do with this or you know the defensive staff we're all you know we're in there all the time together and it's it's been a fun staff to get to know and you know it's that's one of the the the most enjoyable things I have coming in the building is coming here with his staff and they're great recruiters great recruiters they inspired me I'm glad to hear you say that it hasn't changed because I I I feel the same way and I think sometimes the nowaday athlete doesn't get as much credit because of all the other stuff going on having said that what have you enjoyed the most about being back on a campus just coaching football I just you know we love the game and and I think as a coach when you love the game it permeates through the through the defense and and you know all the coaches it was really fun after practice we saw your corner will Johnson addressed the team and he talked about the process Y what have you noticed about his process as one of the elite players not just here but probably in the country well I I think he's a unicorn I mean it's it's hard and I've always said this Jerry you you know this as well it's hard to be a leader when you play Corner they call it the island for a reason you're the only one on the island out there and uh he is a tremendous leader um and he does a lot of it just by you know what he does he you know he gets up every morning and he's at the uh doing like Pilates or something at 6 something extra for his game he studies tape he's always talking with Lamar about how can we play this and how how can we play that he's got a bright bright future which everybody knows um but uh it's it's been a lot of lot of fun and and and meeting him with his family as well thanks for your time coach it's great to have you back in the college game all right thank you so much guys in things up from an arbor Michigan's schedule in a word Final Takeaways From Michigan Fall Training Camp challenging they open with a Fresno State team that won nine games last season follow that up with a Texas team that made the college football playoff they play three of the four new big 10 schools USC Washington and Oregon the game in Seattle of course a rematch of last year's national title game the ducks come to The Big House November the 2nd and then they will look to make it four straight wins against Ohio State when they clash in Columbus November the 30th that is a bit daunting it's not easy for the defending national champs what stands out as we look at that schedule Yogi well I can't wait to see what happens in week two right Texas game Alex orgy how how can't he remind you a little bit of Jaylen milro you go back to last year who visited Tuscaloosa Texas Jaylen milro had a little bit of struggle they were deciding what were they going to do with the quarterback position by the end of the year Jaylen mirro was balling and led that team to the cfp so I can't wait to watch the development from from that game in the big house and what happens of course with the quarterback position yeah I think that's a big part of it just how the quarterback develops throughout the year is going to be an important part and I guess that's one of the reasons I look at org as being that guy because I think it's from a confidence standpoint if they can continue to Bild him and throughout the year by the time they get to the end he's going to be very comfortable with who he is not only as a runner but a passor you know there's so many games that you could look to that there's pick any of them Oregon USC a lot of exciting ones but I I think thing that stood out to me the most in talking to shiron Moore today was that he said he couldn't believe how calm he felt right now you know in Fresno State's not that far away but he there is a feeling that I got from being around him that this is his team now and he he has there was a comfort level and he said I'm I'm Al a little bit surprised at how calm I feel so I think those those Jitters will be going maybe the juice will get going once president State rolls around but it's going to be fun to watch how this thing all plays out because I feel like they think that people aren't taking them as seriously as they think they should and again we were talking about this with him I mean the guy coached in as high pressure games as you can coach in a year ago and while the situation was unusual to say the least it did get him the confidence that he knows he can do this job he has done this job before it's interesting you talk about it Ashley and are they being undervalued I mean they're still a preseason top 10 team so I don't think people aren't taking them seriously like big picture takeaway what did you think about this team and where they fit in yeah well I mean so they're picked fourth right in the unofficial media preseason poll in the Big 10 which for defending national champs we've talked about a lot today about how much they have lost but Mo said it he goes That's right where we want to be like it's great like we don't listen to the outside noise but these guys they you know social media is a thing they know um but that's exactly where they want to be so the mentality of this team it feels like the culture is still there that's my biggest takeaway is just that nothing has changed there's a lot of new faces around here there's a lot of new on staff but that it feels like it's the same thing that this place has been built on system comes to mind yeah right Coach Harbaugh figured out what that system was going to be and it's been in place and you mentioned the Comfort level from the head coach how about the players they feel that as well and they understand what they're up against I think often times after a national championship game there's a little bit of an aura around a team theirs is different because sometimes it's can they win it again right we've seen that with Georgia we've seen that with Alabama in the past this team because they lost so many players you don't necessarily feel that R you feel a little bit of a chip and I like that I think it's really healthy compet I watching these guys go and then last thing Dave they're going to play maybe the best quarterbacks in the country Quinn Ys Miller Moss you go down the list this is going to be fun to watch his defense it'll be really fun to watch this team this year and you're right it is an unusual situation where you're a defending national champ and yet there's still some people saying hey prove it to me we are heading home for our final stop stop number 18 on the tour takes us back to the Chicago area we'll check in on Northwestern the Wildcats coming off a crazy season last year which saw them win eight games and a bowl we will see you there thanks to everyone here at Michigan [Music]
