Purdue Football Previews, Oregon, Northwestern

what's up everybody welcome to another episode of the boorder express podcast sorry for the delay we were experiencing some technical difficulties or at least shocker I was I was I know shocker um I've been waiting on rest this entire time um first of all I got delayed by the sponge bath and then internet you have to wait in line here and Martha was like not getting off for only fans and so we're good now but uh yeah Martha Martha's on QVC like come on let's let's get this started so we've got um oh I guess Twitter's not working it's saying Twitter's not working so oh good YouTube and Facebook you've got us though where we get most our views is Twitter let's just not oh it's because that premium account crap with with X and Twitter and whatever we have to get a premium account now to go live on X yeah that's so freaking stupid we already went through that on Facebook we had to get our our likes up there so let's just remove the Twitter and stop trying to do that so it'll stop a couple weeks off there um apologize for that obviously it's off season we got family stuff going on Chris has got twins yeah Chris had to go out and have twins and you know how selfish what what a selfish dude and then I mean he does that other thing in the side what's his job again like a a narc I think something important yeah oh narc okay we're going there all right hey Chris if you're tuning in I appreciate you man sters I mean we got Cody in here one of the faithful listeners of the show what's up what's up Cody so uh as Cody would know you all that have been tuning in we're doing kind of a preview this summer as we kind of have tried to do the last couple Summers of the schedule um and we left off with I I think Wisconsin was the last game which would have been at Wisconsin is what that game would be but then we get a two- game home stand with Oregon and northwesterners the next two games so that's what we're gon to be doing today but we have a training aid today um which is EA college football 25 which unless you're living under a rock you've heard that that game has come out and it's pretty Monumental because it was like an 11year Gap with no college football video game so um since Dylan and I aren't the you know Frank tank not here he's not the big brain we we don't got the knowledge guys here so we're just gonna play a video game and use that to help preview these two games since the other guys aren't here we're just gonna play video games you know exactly they miss out on the fun that's how it works you snooze you lose but how have you been over the last couple weeks there Dylan good man i' I've missed doing this I you know it's summertime and I don't have I don't a whole lot going on this time of year so I'm just you know watching I'm really just playing this to be completely honest uh to not have to work this summer and also have the first college football video game in in 11 years has been uh not helping my sleep schedule by any stretch of the imagination uh but no man it's been good you know I don't like all of you guys have kids except Frank Frank and are the only one ones that don't Offspring uh so Frank and I live in the dream in other words uh he's tring the world de too so he yeah he's Anthony Bourdain this summer I mean every time we like talk to him he's like I'm in Spain I'm in France I'm in uh I who El mountain in Arizona or something yeah like he's biking in the in the desert and I'm like buddy why when was the last time you were home like so he's probably in France for the Olympics I think you got front row seats to watch uh probably basketball because he's a basketball guy um him and LeBron that's why he's been off here a little bit like it's it's going into football season and he's like you know what basketball's way off so I'm going to I'm just going to do myself here he's still taking in the the national championship loss you know he's still grieving but we'll we'll get him there you know yeah Frankie big brain will be back before we know it yeah and then Damon too can't can't not mention Damon um miss him he might hop in here he's in the group chat maybe we'll hop in or maybe hop in the comments um you have to kind of help keep track so like I said here we got we we got Cody saying here I got I have to wait for you have to break this down for me I have to wait for 1120 it's it's a date Russ oh my goodness it's literally a a date on the calendar buddy we're definitely in offseason form here y like what are these numbers I don't 11224 okay there we go all right gotcha gotcha when you do get it let us know and we'll well at least I'll try to play a game uh Dylan and I have been trying to play a game for like a month and he's been ducking me left and right so well first I wanted to play for a few weeks and get good at the this game's different than Madden it's different from like any I mean obviously ncaa14 it's much different from that but like the first few games I was losing I was losing to FCS Southwest Tech from the blind I mean I was losing to everybody so yeah so this is the first of probably many um borderer Express video game streams that we're going to do hopefully they don't always sub for the Tuesday night pod but um we are in part of the college huddle so shout out Eric and J.R and those guys so we started a dynasty with a lot of the podcasts or at least a few of the other podcast hosts from the college hle I think there's like what 11 or 12 of us in there and uh Dylan thought he was like being smart by picking Texas and getting this Powerhouse team and he was just going to walk to the cfp well surprised he's got to play two user players the first two weeks so he's got the It's actually an IU Purdue rivalry game tomorrow night so maybe we'll try to find find a way to stream that we got the guy from hoer huddle um which I'm blanking on his name now but umer huddle picked Colorado State and they play Texas week one so us Texas are going to play him and then week two you have to play Casual Big 10 Kent not worried well the hoer huddles Colorado State like what do we I mean at least you know he's got one up on you because at least picked like a rebuild program you you picked like a Powerhouse so if you don't I was gonna be or wi win for him like if loses it's like you should beat him because you have the number three team in the country well I just like I I just like to yell hook him and I don't get to do that very often so I thought I pick pick Texas and um I know I like their colors their uniforms are pretty dope even though Oregon has the best uniforms in in in the in college but I don't know and Dylan Gabriel for me he's a lefty he's really small in the game like I don't think he's as small in real life as they made him in this game because in this game it feels like you're playing with the toddler playing football like flag football or something and it's really weird my daughter's left-handed so don't you disparage left-handed people well right hand is the superior hand okay that's just facts so um okay and I might I might really screw this up surprise surprise what else is new Michael Vic was left-hander was he not no he's right ah yeah he was he was left-hander okay so all right so I remember correctly then I used to love playing Madden with him and rolling out to the left because it tripped people out because you know everybody's rolling out to the right with right-handed quarterback roll out to the left left and he dud was so damnn fast that either somebody be open or i' just run for like 15 20 yards with him every time yeah but to be fair comparing Mike Vic and Dylan Gabriel is is I mean yeah but in this game Dylan Gabriel's like 90 overall or something he is very quick highest qu in the Big 10 I'll probably run with him a few times just are you gonna are we gonna play this game or what are we yeah sorry I just want to go that so um let me look up this guy's name so I'm before I like disparage him anymore Andre Andre Napier from the hooer Huddle so that's who you're you've got a date with seven Andre Andre so let me a cool name like Andre let me switch this over here to our little capture card thing that shout out Kent from Casual Big 10 so you can still hear me right yep unfortunately okay still got me unfortunately so we're gonna do kind of abbreviated games here we do three minute quarters um let's go ahe and put this all inone screen there so that Dyan isn't by himself on there get rid of Cody's comment no offense to Cody just yeah I know I was oh man you got a little Scout here um Kent dyl are all bad at games hey this is not fair Kent this is like when when other teams fly drones to other team's practice facilities get out of here well the good news is he'll see my play calling not yours so you'll you know he get some insight but not not everything so what you say you you got all whites here right yeah I'm going eggshell all whites Chrome domes brother Chrome domes if you're going all white then I going to go a blackout game because I know we we we anticipate something for this game you wanna you want to tease that Dylan yeah I mean I don't know exactly what it is but my boy Ted uh Teddy boy I've never called him that I don't know why I just did on a podcast but Ted from boiler uniforms the uniform man extraordinaire uh has uh uh announced from a uh reliable source that he that Purdue will be wearing special uniforms for the Oregon game um I personally I don't know if I'll be able to make the game because it's a Friday night which is dumb and I work at a school and we don't get out till like three something so I and it's like a two three- hour driv I don't know I'm maybe I don't know we'll see uh if I can make it if not I'll uh give uh one of you my tickets probably well I have season tickets as well so you wouldn't have to give to me but I'm in the same boat I know if if we're goingon to be able make Friday night work or not so well maybe we can give them away to a nice listener there we go can you hear can you hear the game through the somebody somebody comment Kent or somebody let me know if you can hear the game you only hear our voices I can only hear us which is unfortunate man those new uniforms are so clean I love it oh yeah wonderful intro if you guys haven't seen it the boiler the extra special oh yeah tiller tunel on the background night game I you know I had to switch a night game because G be Friday night game so we got to those Chrome Doms look nice I don't know who that gentleman is on back of the train but he's having a good time so I don't too much since he's listening but I do think he's got the edge on this dynasty I'm just saying he's already got on the bu Express crowd he did his fancy little 10- win stream the other night so I believe yeah Cody just said he can't hear the gam playay so that's tough oh well you get to hear our voices oh well terrible kick there oh wow I wonder if I could like turn it up enough that the mic just picks it up let you run that back right at the bat that'll just sound tough if we do that who needs to hear K curb Street and the other one I you know they like when they were putting the game like announcing the game and all that they were like you know we've put in so many commentary hours and everything but I still feel like it's repetitive yeah which bothers me oh you just got a free play because I'm still adjusting volum pull the Conor stallions so obviously you're going to see a lot in this game and you'll see a lot all season on Dylan Gabriel he is where you know I think Oregon's chances of you know having a big 10 winning season or cfp season for Oregon begins and ends is with Dylan Gabriel I think he's a bit overrated um not that he's he's going to be a bad quarterback by any means oh we took a hit there um but big transfer from Oklahoma um you know and there's a lot of transfer quarterbacks in the Big 10 this year and it's it may just come down to which quarterback makes the transition the best um but uh and you know Oregon got to travel a lot right I mean join the Big 10 they're used to going up down the west coast and now they're going to be going to West lafette amongst other places this season hey I've been to West lafette a few times how do you how do you feel about Oregon I mean they're good obviously Dylan Gabriel's a do look at this look at that H wow perfect timing when you send it over to me third down I throw uh no I mean d Dylan Gabriel is really good um their offense seems to be a high power offense uh their wide receiver CT pre you know seems pretty solid um I mean I I barely like pay attention to other big 10 teams little in these brand new teams but I have watched a bit on Dylan Gabriel and dude has like a little and not just because the number eight wearing but a little Marcus Mariota to him and I think he's probably their highest touted quarterback since Mariota I mean mariota's probably their all-time best quarterback now ah I couldn't get there I knew that's where you're going too oh did you yeah obviously so so Oregon's obviously that team like you said that we're too familiar with we have played them though before do you remember some of the past games there uh I mean they were we're talking 15 or more years ago right which is sad because you already think thinking about 2008 is like 16 years ago but no I remember like I remember when they played at oddson yeah was on that team wasn't he yeah oler BL one of my favorites dude yeah so that guy from Boise State we played him three times all time we beat him once like oh we got the wild cat say a hat where am I going russie where am I oh right there right there like four yard loss that's where W that's quick first quarter that's right we're doing three minute quarters y'all to make these fast because we're going to try to get Northwestern in too so we'll see how this goes the four minute quarters do seem like forever when you're playing yeah we did play him uh 2008 2009 yeah they do the uh the road to college football playoffs three minute quarters it makes the game just like fly by um touchdown oh no I should have had that man Yanni I hate kicking in this game I hate kicking so I kind of want to go for it oh man go for it so the key the why am I telling you this why am I saying it out loud well because it'll show me I do the I always do coach suggestions because it bases calls off your personnel and then I kind of pick what play I want out of the the ones it suggests look that these short kicks and extra points man is just barely hold the a like don't hold it forever got it oh my goodness I knew you were going there too that's where you hey look that Dan and duck I don't know name just not quick enough to cover that that middle AA of the field there I don't know the dck name Dr quacker I don't know um I can't believe you're this own te doing I can't believe like hand me a pick six apparently the duck I do feel bad beating look at that look at that duck uh uh do you know the duck's name I have no idea is it KN did you just say rubber rub rubby rubby the ducky this is this is a family program good Lord Almighty rubby the ducky Dylan hey rush you want to see how a kickoff works that's how that's a oh yeah so you can kick that off so what I was to say was the the short kicks man those extra points and the you know short field goals is you just barely hold the a like only let the short ones I don't struggle with it's the 50 yard why didn't you kick that little you a little 20 yard field goal you said you gotta go for on fourth and instead I got a touchdown man sorry I like to win 90 got jumps no sir damn it Max CLA oh what was that a little little stutter look like he's fallen from a longer distance had one or two before the game started don't put that on the kid good Lord also so my strategy against you in this game is gonna be the same one I think Purdue is gonna need holy smokes Deon the mock train mobe no I M no what the heck what are we doing what are we doing Damon no we don't have game s you're lucky we got the game on the on the dang screen okay we struggled with that even good Lord get off our BS I think I know what's going on with the game sound I think if I switch because I got the I got my mic on my microphone obviously and if I change it to the game sound I think you can get the game sound but then you wouldn't be able to hear my beautiful voice so let us know in the comments do you want the the gameplay or rest's voice oh my God that's not a good I do not stand a good chance in that poll and then and then it's just me screaming into the microphone like I just and K or uh old Russ oh Russ rashers too bad that you couldn't wear uniforms from your days they don't have leather helmets in the game we didn't even have uniforms shirts Cody Cody I know I got juked in the next week don't even we made fun of the teams that had uniforms nerds way to try hards then I keep forgetting uh that there's a two-minute warning in college football now yeah it's turning into the n need to hold you here so I can go up oh a yeah it's on you D Gabriel that's right it's on you that's on you yeah it's not on me yeah was I was gonna get out was I I think that along with Dylan Gabriel I think that Oregon's a little overhyped going on this season I'm not gonna lie no I would agree you you know you look at what Nebraska did I mean they had a good couple first seasons in the Big 10 excuse me um they made the Big 10 championship game but as a whole they've just kind of become a middle- of the road Big 10 team and you know when Oregon played Purdue back in you know was 08 and 09 um they beat us at rosade it was like less than a touchdown it was like six points or four points or something and then they beat us out at Aon in like overtime by like two points so I I don't think that this is going to be a game that we're you know necessarily just pencil it in or or even Sharpie it in as a loss right now like I think they'll be coming off the High State game and they'll be playing at Raw State on a Friday night we'll be hyped we'll have special uniforms which uniforms you know people laugh at uniforms having an effect on a game but I mean it you you you know what is it what's that suit company you look good you feel good or if you feel good you look you know whatever right you look good feel good feel good play good play good get paid good good live good Dam it I was trying to get underneath that can we talk about how I just nailed that like I and off the top of my head and normally I'm about how like it took me two plays to score on you and you've taken like 20 play on offense listen I'm more of a I'm more of a a that oh oh D thatall how does he hold on to that y you gotta hit him harder than that buddy my third what number is he he's been hit in the weight room obviously shoulder Stripes every team in their brother has gotten shoulder Stripes I don't know what that is but it is true they're trying to be like the America's team man good Lord boys I hope Purdue is game because nobody just wants to look at Russ knife right now especially since we don't know a lot about Oregon anyways so it's like you know winwin and the other guys aren't here so like we're just doing what we want here so yeah we're we're you know the the parents aren't home and we're going to play video games all night so that's what that is no how did how do you break out of that how do you look at that duck feature the game there they automatically run the clock down once there's no way to to extend the game how are you going to extend the game you don't have enough timeouts that's what I'm saying so it just ran the clock down there was still like a minute left on the clock or whatever but it just runs it Nick burus wants to know what uh what setting we're playing on what level we're playing All American right now we're not all- American because we're all America just make it a little interesting now which it has been because I've got the we're gonna switch back to preview this Northwestern game which I don't think we need to spend a lot of time on Northwestern I think that's a game we should expect to win this year oh and I think it was a fluke that we lost last year if card was not out for that game uh I think we win but even without him do you remember what one of the big storylines in that game was remember how that game went Dylan uh no why don't you remind the people so we outrushed him 303 to 99 we had over 300 rushing yards that game but we had four turnovers so we basically controlled the clock and controlled the line of scrimmage in that game and still lost which is very very hard to do if you usually if you control those things you win the game and we still manage to throw it away so I'm not really worried I I wish in this game you know northwestern's playing on their practice field this year and it's literally five feet from the lake from Lake Lake Michigan Look at me now in geography um and I I would love for that for that to be in a tail oldest time oh look at the old oen bucket I I was trying to explain to my mother and my sister uh a while back ago how Purdue and Indiana play for the old oak and bucket and my sister who hates Sports She's a nerd she likes books and is a Psychology major and is smart and stuff uh she was like well what's the old o and bucket I said well it's it's an old oak and bucket it's literally what it is and she goes so you mean they they play for an old oak and bucket and I said uhhuh and it's very coveted and it's a very big deal very big game and she's like I don't understand Sports and I'm like that's fine you know well I think what some people don't understand is is they think that's actually what we're playing for it's just a symbol that we won the game it's not like that's the only reason we want to play the game like if they don't understand I mean but the bucket is a big deal oh it well it is but it is but it's it's a big deal because it signifies what happened right in that game and it resides in West Lafia most of the year most of the Millennium straight three straight against they Indiana would have to win 30 straight games to even tie the series so people often forget that yeah what uniform you going with uh gold black gold the classic the tiller era don't wear black that'll be confusing purple still probably little too I mean Northwestern did have a hell of a year last good for him he's one of those guys I wished worked out at Purdue like I would love to have Danny Hope be like a 10 12 15 20 year head coach 100% I should have made my coach in arine Dynasty Danny Hope although and then you like all the players I've talked to that played under Hope were like he's the best human on the planet like we loved playing for him which is different from when you hear guys that played with hope or Hazel sorry Hazel Hazel is a good guy but like you know we talked to our guy Chuck and Chuck was like he didn't want us to play music before the game in the locker room and he wanted to be very business and like he didn't want us to have fun and which pans out because when you think about it buddy didn't buddy seemed like the least fun person on the planet wore the samey pretty pretty serious he wore the same weird tracksuit and the bent bill and I don't know but any guy I've talked to that played under Hope like love Danny Hope and they speak very highly of I bought a signed football on eBay for literally one penny uh that was signed by Danny Hope and I was like like that's like the steal of the century like was he the best at Purdue probably not but was he one of the best dudes to come through Purdue absolutely and now have you seen a like a photo of him lately the last few years Dude Looks Like like he just looks like Jesus I mean he's got oh the don't I don't hate Bram I don't blame Bram for leaving you know I don't think I think Brown would still be here if it was for that it was the Louisville job like honestly I I I wouldn't see him do for could have been the ceiling for Braum at Purdue yeah it makes you think but he's killing Louisville I uh oh there's no way no sir uh but then like I've talked to not players in recent history but more older alums who like Braum and the Braum LLC which you know everyone and his brother literally is on his coaching staff uh uh wouldn't let alums near the facility which sucks um but luckily I've heard mom and my grandpa was Dad Dad because our first cousin which seems how how it goes with grandparents the first cousin first grandbaby whatever they call him that's what they wouldn't be called from then on well my oldest cousin couldn't understand like Grandma Grandpa and and they had to be they had explained it as like okay that's that's mom's mom and so he's like Mom Mom so then he looked at like Grandpa was like Dad Dad Dad Dad that's Dad Dad double dad so yeah so it was like okay so that's that's what it was I don't know we always like on my on my dad's side they were like pretty they're they're uh I want to say uptight but uh they're very Manor who was knocking on my door did you hear that I did not I thought you were uh like doing a little song what was that was that like one of those games like we had Pur had with Illinois and Minnesota last year where barring injuries barring something crazy happening I think that we have the clear Talent advantage in this game with Northwestern and so we should win it pretty much going away pretty much going away I don't know what's going on with Dylan Dylan's got that batter in it again at least he at least he stay connected to the game is anybody still even listening Cody you still with us pal gonna hook up the old PS2 and play NCA football 2002 yeah you know oddly enough my favorite was NCA football 2000 on the PS1 I think
