2024 Purdue Football Preview

podcast it's revealed for the breakdown left tonight like go taking fight every story every fight for a break down every night [Applause] [Music] what's going on boiler Nation it is what day is it it is Wednesday night it is August 28 2024 uh we are back finally back last time we did an episode Webby you notified me it was April 12th 12th and we told everybody we're taking a little break well a little break turned into quite a long break we're back ready to talk some boiler maker football the 202 2024 season is upon us kicking off Saturday when the boilers host Indiana State the sycamores of Indiana State at noon eastern time on the Big 10 Network how we doing Webby doing well man excited to be back at it I know we had every intention to record an episode probably about six or seven times over the summer it just never happened um yeah last time we recorded it was fresh off a lost the national championship which still feels weird to say um uh yeah lot's happened in the pury sports world since then um whether it be basketball recruiting losing players getting players uh football getting recruits whether it's for the 2025 class or 2026 class it's it's crazy it's crazy that it all starts again on Saturday and I don't know if it's just something about getting older but every year the off season seems like it last longer and longer yeah I'd agree with you there and and and this one should have been our shortest one because as you mentioned the basketball team made the national championship but for whatever reason it just felt like a drug on and on and on yeah I guess probably could you know back when we were kids we always had stuff going on in the summer um you know even in college you know coming home summer you know summer internships or whatever it is summer and then they kind of pass the time until you go back to campus and now it's just you're just in it 247 and you're just sitting in it and we don't have when either you don't care about baseball your baseball team is um lower than a garbage disposal like my team um yeah it's really hard to uh follow a sport in the summer no you're you're right you're right on there my baseball team's pretty good but yet every year my baseball fandom goes down more and more it seems like yeah but with all that said we're happy to be back in the saddle uh not sure if we're going to have a a consistent day every week that we record but uh if so we'll let everybody know but uh yeah but we will be back at it every week from here till the end of the basketball season so so uh glad you're joining the ride for us and I hope it's as exciting of a season for us uh doing this podcast as it was last year I know football went 4 and eight but we still had some exciting moments basketball the only way we can top that later on in the show but uh let's dive right into it Webby um H how you feeling going into the 2024 Purdue football season I'm excited man um and I I it feels like the most excited I've been in a long time um I'm trying to think back to like where where I've been more excited and obviously the first year of Jeff Bram it was like we didn't know what to expect you know it got exciting even after that first loss to Louisville um maybe that second year because we knew like we had rondale more coming in and that kind of thing um but I I don't know I just feel way more excited this year even like last year again it was kind of a thing like you know we're coming off a you know a big 10 championship appearance in bronze last year um knew you know the roster had a lot of turnover with Walters coming in especially with portal as it is in today's Sports World um so again was kind of just like a wait and see type of thing um but this year and I don't know has something to do we' talked about before like just with the new EA college football game like being able to like I know I know last year like going into the season we're like we're I know like four players going into the roster now like I've got a pretty good grasp of you know some of the players just because of that game which makes it which is fun um and something that we grew up playing so I think that's definitely added to my excitement um of just like having something college football related to play um and just kind of having that in my life and getting ready for the season um stoked man and you know I know obviously this we've all heard the talks about the schedule um obviously has as has the team um but you know looking to see you know how this team improved from year one to year two of the Ryan Walters era yeah I'm excited too um I was trying to think this is probably the most excited I've been since I was really pumped for the 2019 season of course that didn't go as yeah but I Sinar was taken over that Year Ronda Moore uh was a freshman carus was a freshman that's yeah yeah for That season but then that season was derailed by injuries and just had to play a bunch of youngsters which panned out well um in future Seasons after that but um but yeah no you hit on a lot of good points there and you brought up the schedule that's all anybody wants to talk about Purdue schedule schedule schedule and yeah it it is rough it's very rough I mean four of the 12 games are against teams that are currently ranked inside the top 10 those games are at Ohio State than Road contests and against Oregon Notre Dame and Penn State um I know that wasn't an order I just first names that Popp off my head uh but you know it's uh it is what it is I mean is the new Big 10 it's the 18 team Big 10 the four teams they added three of them are usually pretty darn good and UCLA has Good Seasons every once in a while so it's it's a it's a it's a gauntlet it's a power Football Conference and as long as produce part of the Big 10 which I hope they are forever um or as long as the Big 10 doesn't disband or you know who knows about the future that's just how it's going to be and I think as fans we kind of have to maybe uh change our expectations a little bit um and and with this schedule I think if they could get the six wins and go to postseason that's that's a heck of a season that's a heck of a season yeah that's that's what's kind of sucked about this whole you know conference expansion is like just knowing like yeah like and that's what as a fan it's like yeah temporary expectation of like what you know even last year used to be hey like you know the M you know at at minimum make a bowl like get six wins like that should be the bare minimum of pretty football every every single year in a year out I mean it was G be a couple years where maybe five or whatever um but now it's like oh my God like if we get to a bowl that's GNA be awesome sort of thing and you know the you know the dream was always like can we get to a 10- win season we've done it only once in program history now it's like man that's a tall that's a tall task and it's just kind of funny because you know like even like four years ago you know we complain about like our our non-conference schedule like man I don't want to play Ball State Indiana State and you know I want play the big boys before the Big 10 and now it's like no we want we want the ball States and we want the which like I mean I know we've kind of talked about how like the transfer port on that kind stuff hurts these you know mid Majors but maybe this conference expansion kind of helps these mid Majors now because now like these teams want to schedule all these you know quote unquote cupcakes and that's how those schools kind of fund the lot of their athletic department so um hopefully these teams these schools can still kind of get the revenue got a comment here on YouTube from the Big Time boiler good to see you again Big Time boiler I know you're Loy loyal viewer to show a listener to show we appreciate that season finally here boiler up boys pumped up for this season 10 times more than last year absolutely yes I think a lot of boiler Nation can uh can relate to that comment uh it's obviously shown because I mean season tickets have sold out uh you know the allotment for student tickets have sold out which is awesome and I wonder how much of that is you know you wonder how much of that plays into like the schedule you know we've got you know the the Notre Dame coming back for the first time since 2013 at least back at rosate I should say um obious played them a couple years ago um you got Oregon coming to town Nebraska like obviously massive fan bases um so I'm sure that plays a part but I mean like I mean I like you know me probably has a lot to do the final four run like just excitement as a for you know Purdue Sports as a whole just feels like at an all-time high yeah and even last year you know go back to the Minnesota games and Indiana games you know teams with losing records against each other it was still pretty close to a sellout both those games and I that I mean Purdue Purdue can really be a loyal family for football I mean it gets praise for basketball as it should uh but football they can be really loyal too especially when Purdue's winning but now is in Ryan Walters and Company's hands to keep them coming back give them a product it feels like if you could just give us something to cheer for like we're going to show up I like obviously like when the Hazel era like there was nothing good to cheer for like it wasn't exciting it wasn't was losing it was boring football yeah yeah and then obviously when braam came in it was like yeah we're gonna lose but we're gonna you know trick plays on special teams like that kind of stuff was like okay like this is fun like if we're going to lose we're going to lose 50 6 to 54 whatever was the the Missouri game that year or two or two year blow just ducking it up yeah like that's like if you give us good product on the field we're gonna show up yeah like just is a very loyal fan base y well if you had the schedule keys in your hands I know you don't but if you did how would you go about scheduling produ non-conference I know like ideally what I would like to see it become you're in you're out but what what would you like to see it become so what we got about three non-conference games three nonon games I'd say I still like to see maybe at least one power four maybe like maybe like a a peer program like a whether it's like a Mississippi State you know SEC team or um I mean hell Vanderbilt I know they're kind of bottom of the barrel of the SEC but why not still have a trip there eventually sometime kind a peer program from a power conference um and then maybe you know one maybe two on how how the years going which obviously these things are scheduled 40 years in advance nowadays who knows but I think definitely having a you know one to two kind of buy games as we as we want to call them um just to one get them started um get those wins you know and I mean there is no preseason as we've kind of always talked about like there is no preseason in college football and so usually you need those um tuneup games to just kind of see what you have on the field yeah I would ideally like to see one tuneup game an FCS game whether it's Indiana State Western Illinois Illinois State Etc yeah I'd like to see a Max school every year yeah because I think that's a good test it's a game you should win but still it's a test especially if I mean sometimes ma a Max school is really really good um and then I would like to see Notre Dame and if you can't get Notre Dame on schedule like you said another power for um te it doesn't have to be you know the any of the other Blue Bloods or anything but just any of the power schools would be fun yeah that's that's ideally what I'd like to see but yeah but I I I get it you know I used to rip on Indiana every year for cupcake cup cupc cupcake schedule but I I get it now you know scheduling that way to at least try to get three wins before your Gauntlet of the Big 10 season starts so yeah and if you can SCH obviously we see this a lot in basketball which it's probably a little easier to do with basketball because painter's been there for so long and's the coach does but maybe one of those smaller schools like you said like Illinois State something that's got a Pur tie to it that kind of you know obviously helps them out um bring you know someone back home um that'd be kind of cool just as a way to have them back and I don't think we've played Illinois State since SP got there I don't think we have in 09 yeah I don't think we have red birds they play at Iowa this week so but it's interesting like you you mentioned also you know scheduled these football non-conference schedules these matchups so far in advance I mean years ago when Illinois made it they probably thought oh Kansas that's could to be an easy win now Kansas rank 20 yeah I mean you just never know never know what you're GNA get into and and you know or we have old don't we have Old Miss on the schedule coming up home and home with Old Miss we have a home and home with North Carolina we have a home and home with Wake Forest we also have a road trip still to TCU eventually road trip to Vanderbilt eventually um we never did get that road trip to Boston College That was supposed to be 2020 and they just kind of just a that one but yeah still still a lot of fun intriguing matchups for Purdue in the future but in like Oregon State this year um they're definitely not the Oregon state of last year and we'll get more into this when we when we break down the games but uh that's still a still West Coast trip and that has not been historically good for the boiler makers so no but but looking at this Saturday's game against Indiana State this is an Indiana State team that struggled pretty mightily last year they went one and 10 one and seven in their conference and they only scored a little over 13 points per game o last year and they were got outscored by opponents by uh they gave up an average of 30 points per game yeah so there was just not a lot going well in terot last year and I don't think they has Reon ter no no there's not um I don't think there's reason to be optimistic down there for Indiana State football mallerie still their coach of course his dad was legendary coach for Indiana I mean he had them pretty decent a few years ago had them borderline ranked for the FCS but Wheels have kind of fallen off they're historically produced six and0 against Indiana State last match up was on your 30th birthday two years ago or your not day before your 30th excuse me September 10th uh 2022 Purdue won 56 to zero before that was 2015 rare Daryl Daryl Hazel win 384 the only thing I remember of that game was right before half Austin applebe completed a Hail Mary touchdown of Dan monteroso remember him oh my gosh that's a blast from the past yeah then he actually transferred went and played division 2 basketball basketball yeah yeah because he was a pretty good basketball player in the state of Ohio yeah in 2013 Daryl Hazel's second game and his first win so he two of his nine wins were against the sycamor uh that was a 20 the 14 win if it wasn't for Ricardo Allen interception at the 20 yard line Purdue probably loses that game and goes over for and 12 we were that was right in front of us we were in the studio section that's how close they were to scoring they were driving oh man uh before that 2006 was a 60 to35 win uh they were the throwback 1966 jerseys that game yep I remember that yep was there uh two ones before that we were not there 1990 Purdue won 20 to 14 so that's interesting two of the six matchups have been the same exact score 20 to 14 and then 1926 produced shut out Nast 38 to zero so how many times have we shut them out twice two twice okay twice and we've gave up 14 three times and then 35 the other time wow but the time we gave up 35 we scored 60 so yeah kind of makes up for it so uh Purdue is 33 Point favorites today as of today it started at 32 and a half it's bumped up a half a point um and I think that's what Purdue needs to do they need to go out they don't just need to win by six 10 yeah they need to make a statement need to win comfortably to where you can pull the starters sometime in the third quarter get younger guys live say pull them at halftime if you can get it's like 35 three at halftime pull them like yeah maybe I guess maybe give them like one drive or something I don't know um but yeah it's got to be a convincing so if it's like you know 284 or 2821 in the late in the second half oh boy yeah yeah it's h it's a game you gota just take take care of your opponent easily try to stay healthy yeah um you know originally if Purdue didn't mess with the schedule and work with n EST we wouldn't be talking about a game this week this was supposed to be a byee for Purdue this until earlier this year and they wiggled some stuff around in the estate got it moved up to where the buys next week week and how the injury situation shaped up for Purdue and Camp it's kind of a blessing I think that the by week's next week right before Notre Dame gives you two weeks to prepare for Notre Dame so um so yeah good good move there by Ryan Walters and Company um but forecast looks beautiful looks like it's gonna be sunny in mid mid 80s um so a little warm but not as warm as last year oh my gosh not as warm as the 2011 season opener against mid yeah so yeah that was that was like 95 degrees and he wore jeans never I'll never forget that was before I when I it was anti- shorts that was your first football game as a student it was yep and it took a block to kick to win that game I forgot about that I think Ricardo it yeah or it was gonna go into overtime if they made that so yeah yeah yeah so interesting interesting stuff but uh let's talk about the our season outlook a little bit um what's your biggest concern with this Prue team staying healthy uh in key areas yep um you know obviously you know some of the newcomers that are here um welcome welcome back Cameron day um uh well I didn't know who got signed and dropped by who do he get why do you think I'm pausing and try try to really my place my words here because Cameron I I am a diver Broncos fan as you can see in the background so uh how about one of the worst teams the worst might be uh hurting a little bit uh I think I could go to Carolina or New England but uh I'm not saying the Broncos going to be a playoff team but I think they're going to be better than five and a half win that Vegas has right now I hope so goodness but but yeah no cam cam did get signed and released by them he didn't even make the preseason roster so that's funny um now going back to health I mean CJ Smith who if you play EA college football he's he's fast U he makes fast people look not so fast not so fast um not him not being on the first game he's a little concerning especially I know there was um you know concerns of when he was at Georgia of him not staying healthy hamstrings scare me man yeah hamstrings are not fun um um then obviously I mean Hudson card is the big one um as we saw last year you know you could maybe add another win to the total if he plays that Northwestern game oh I think they win that one last year yeah so I mean obviously the line's much improved compared to last year um so that makes me feel a little better he's hopefully not getting he's staying vertical a lot more um than he was last year um so probably that and thenan the wide receiving course is kind of a question mark obvious we lost our all of our you know our top pass catchers last from last year either by transfer or whatever um so just a lot of unproven talent there you know obviously we hear a lot of good things but until we see it on the field it's different um and then can so i' say Obviously Health um wide receivers and then I guess defensive line again we just don't my Bigg besides heal defensive line scon stopping the run too yeah scorton left Jenkins moves to a linebacker position so like your two essentially like you quote unquote lost your two Rush ends obviously jenin will still be there just in a different spot which is better for him long term but guys like you know will H again we hear great things about him and how like he's long and lanky and just a massive human being as a sophomore um but it's all improving because you know we you know a of the defense that that Pur runs it's a lot of manto man and if you're not getting any pressure on the quarterback it's you're kind of leaving your defensive backs high and dry no matter how good they are yep 100% And there's just so many new names and faces on both sides of the ball defense especially um and at that rushan position I mean we're looking at um I'm trying to get the roster up here so I'm not mistaken here and make sure he's we yeah CJ yeah CJ mad Shah from Georgia that's OB Boston College yep yep because I I don't think there will be too many freshmen that play on the defens side of the ball of course tyon Grant starting uh five star because of nean green is is hurt this game right yeah so that's plays part of it but yeah it's awesome I mean because I know we're really sure him coming in with reclassifying obviously he should be a senior in high school um although I think age wise I think he is right in line with being a Freshman I think he was held back a year um because you always you wonder about like body development and all that kind of stuff especially reclassifying um but yeah it'll be exciting to see number 12 you know five star take the field on Saturday yeah I need to pull up the dep chart here that's what I meant to do before the show and I did not so I'm uh trying to do that right now um but uh yeah Hudson Hudson card on offense keeping him healthy is my main thing I mean Purdue you had to go way back to 2016 to find a season Purdue's had a starting quarterback start every single game so that's a major concern um because I think Purdue is got to go as he goes and I think he's got the ability to be one of the best quarterbacks in the conference I really do and I think he he showed that yes it was against Minnesota Indiana but he showed that two to the last three games last year and he was banged up in those games too so what can he do fully healthy um yeah looking at the depth chart on offense husin card starting quarterback running back Devon mby or Reggie love I thiri he's a senior transfer from Illinois so that's why that name might sound familiar to a lot of Purdue fans wide receiver Shamar Rigby that's a freshman right there starting you also got jiren tib sophomore and Jamal edin Jr he's the Florida Atlantic transfer from last year that looked to be like he was going to be the number one wide receiver last year then he blew out his knee in August um uh second string for the wide receivers you got Leland Smith he's a Junior College transfer um then you got uh uh denan um Moret I believe I'm not sure how to pronounce his last he's the transfer from Georgia then you also have Andrew swinsky the senior um Jaden dixonville um he should be right to mix to senior he was a transfer from Junior College and Oregon State a few years ago tight end I'm I'm really excited about the tight end room you got Max CLA coming back which he was looking to be all freshman Big 10 probably until his a I don't remember his ankle or foot or what it was exactly he had have sergery on got hurt against Illinois then Drew Biber behind him and George Burman and then offensive line like you said a lot of new faces a lot of depth Cory Stewart a left tackle um you got Musa at left guard Gus harwig of course um leading things there at Center DJ Winfield at Right Guard and uh Marcus at right defense Jeffrey imba uh he's he's he's not a new face to Purdue fans Cole uh bravard at defensive tackle Joe Anderson and deari Lewis it's uh one of those AA situations and will H at rush end Cardon jenit at linebacker Yanni kofus linebacker sheeta s at rush end ravus Brown cornerback Dylan thaman preseason an All-American safety Antonio Stevens also out safety back there with him kyri breed love the transfer from Colorado one of the fastest guys on the team also starting there and then tering Grant so five defensive backs starting for Purdue and then specialist got Ben freehill orus Spencer por porth um freehill kicked better after he came back from blood clots last year I will give him that did before that the Purdue kicking game was a mess um to see what porth can do as a freshman yeah and I I'm guessing I'm guessing he'll be the kickoff man um we got kelen crims as the punter he's transfer from Mississippi State another Aussie punter another rugby style punter then kick returner looks like uh Reggie love the third and Isaiah Jackson and then pun returner Dylan thaman what are your thoughts on thaman being a punt returner um I back and forth and I think back to a couple years ago when Ron Moore was was receiving was returning punts I was like just fair catches every time just catch the ball and don't do anything um now change my tune a little bit I mean I think it's just because I'm kind of a fan of you know put the ball in your best players hands let make a play um I mean the dude is fast runs when he's like a freight train when he's picking up momentum um and we all we know most because of bad reasons that special teams can make or break a game sometimes and if you can make if you can make it break in your favor um why not um yeah obviously there's that whole injury risk but I mean sure it's football so I don't know I'm I'm I didn't like it at first but it's grown on me a lot more I'm right there with you because I'm like Purdue that's one guy that can't afford to lose for multiple reasons but at the same time you want your ball in Playmakers hands and like you said they flipping field take one to the house can be all the difference in a close game um and I think he's smart enough to know when to take the risk when not to do a fair Catch and I got confidence that he'll catch Fair catches you know we've had part returns in the past that muff that muff a lot of fair catches and Costas type games so so I'm okay with it um and and I'm I'm I'm anxious to see what Isaiah Jackson can do kick return perspective because he's fast um I don't I don't really like love or makabe being back there I think we could put maybe the Speedy wide receiver back there that might not be in with the first rotation but yeah these guys get paid to coach I don't yeah I get paid nothing to yell from my couch or my seat so and we have a uh special teams coach this year yes yes which is an upgrade from last year when it was kind of all hands- on Deck so yeah um I flashed this early on the screen but I'll revisit it Cameron Cameron day said 39 season here we go 17th in the Big 10 is my guess hope not I hope not um I think three and N is the basement just going to come out there and say ceiling looking at paper I think ceiling seven and five really yeah I guess maybe you can convince me eight if everything goes perfect but yeah I don't know my thought was maybe like six and six okay all right all right I don't know yeah I it's just yeah it's it's so tough there's a lot of Swing games there's a lot of Swing games on schedule I on the road I would call Oregon State maybe a swing game Nebraska home at Illinois Northwestern at Michigan State and at Indiana yeah most of those on the road your long shots are not Dame at home Oregon at home at Ohio State and Penn State at home yeah which at least but three of those four are at home so there's that like you want my real spicy bold take for the season let's do it out of the three big home games nutre Dame Oregon and Penn State Purdue wins one of those three uh order of most confident well I got it down in our confidence for the schedule which we we can we can go right into that go yeah seg so we did this last year we had fun with it thought we'd do it again we mark down all 12 games and we list them from our least confident to our highest confidence so the game we're highest confident in we'll have 12 points on it game where lowest confident we have one point on so starting do you want to go just like game to game or do you want to go like highest confident to low like how do you want to do just want to go like just down the schedule you you pick I'm good with either way let's just go down the schedule all right that's how I did that's how I did it on on my notes so well starting with Saturday Indiana State I'm guessing we're going to agree on this 12 12 if if Purdue happens to lose this game they've never lost to FCS School knock on wood I would say it's probably the worst loss in Purdue football history if they were to lose this one um yeah I I got they got 12 points over the syores how about the Fighting Irish first time like you mentioned that puru is hosted Notre Dame since 2013 played him in 2021 up in South B and lost haven't beat the Irish since 2007 that was a bad Irish team that went three and nine yeah it was very bad was that uh jimmyw Jimmy Clawson yeah y I bet this is a five I got this a four I got this at four so we're we're pretty close there it's yeah I mean I know we'll talk more about it next week and then the following week but I I really think even if pretty loses this game they'll give Notre Dam game I mean I was going through my head you know I've remembered every Notre day match up pretty well since 2001 and only [Music] was 2011 really not a not a uh close game was that turbush pick right at the beginning yeah when he's trying to throw to Gabe holes under thr him by 20 yards I had a beautiful look on the sidelines that and then about two Ls two plays later Michael Floyd over the top over Ricardo alens and it was a long beginning of a long night long that Moody said if we lose Saturday I'm going downtown and buying UTP gear I don't blame you UTEP does play Nebraska this weekend so go miners yeah might as well buy it anyways yes um at Oregon State I have this as 11 I have this as seven really okay why why why so confident Webby I think it's just because they're I mean they do only return two starters out of they return two like they don't they don't have aan they have a car but they don't have a like a conference like I don't know the CW we're gonna be on the CW that night they are I don't know I just feel like yeah this early in the season I don't know like they just trying to figure out who they are um I think I think it comes down to the fact that they just they're I mean they're the pack two and again they're kind of just like they're just the Forgotten child I don't maybe that pisses them off and they you know play super hard I don't know I just feel like they're kind of just just lost I don't know that's just my no I like your reasoning the only reason I had at seven just the history of Purdue in the west coast yeah that's true that's the only reason I mean yeah I still can't get the taste of that Nevada loss start 2019 19cs out of my out of my yeah so uh Corn Huskers homecoming to end September I have this is a six I have this a six as well yep I think Nebraska could be very improved oh yeah I think they're really good um you know freshman quarterback um you know maybe it's like a you know get them early enough he's still trying to figure things out I don't know he's he's a five star so he's gonna be good um Matt rule is definitely not Scott Frost um so I think yeah the days of Nebraska kind of being a laughing stock in Big 10 are pretty much over yeah they haven't went bowling in seven years which is hard to hard to believe um but really if Purdue wants any chance of making a bowl they have to finish September at two and two at the worst yeah I'd agree yeah September's pretty pivotal then to kickoff October our favorite B travel up to Camp Randall to play the Badgers this is my one I have number two this is my one I'm just like until I see it it's never gonna happen yeah it's believe it till believe when I see it moment I mean it's been since 2003 it has been a long time and usually it's not close up R either usually uh F the line ey trip over to Champagne to play for the Canon on October 12th this is my number nine this is my number 10 number 10 okay I feel pretty good about it I think Illinois and Purdue G be pretty similar teams this year yeah I don't know I just feel like Walter staff get extra pumped up for that matchup I mean they did last year just blew the doors off of them I just don't think lot questions on a lot of question on illino defense so maybe dep on how defense looks that Purdue has that kind of which again like you also M like that was Jeff Braum Purdue obviously until we see it from Walters and Company like does that even really stick what's funny is yeah is is people remember the 2018 Ohio State game but how many times have we see Purdue fold up in Prime games a ton a ton whether it was Notre Dame TCU Syracuse last year yeah a ton yeah yeah my thought was like you know coming off you know I think they're GNA be Ohio State playing I hope they do I don't want them coming in after lost if it's a loss then it's that's going to be a blood bath um you hope is my number four it's my number five so to answer your question earlier Yep this is the one if I had to predict one of the three it's Penn State Now history is not on our side we've only be P twice um and the last time was I think well last time was it on the road yeah an 03 oh no 0404 on the road beat him at home and 03 then beat him on the road we beat them to go 5 and0 to then come home to that was out Valley next game was a game that we just don't talk about for the rest of history I mean Pitts they could be playing for a playoff spot then or they could be having a disappointing season and Franklin even though he just got a big extension could be feeling some heat because they're the one team in the Big 10 that just can't get over the hump against the big boyss yep I you wonder you know about Drew I try his name right Aller yeah yeah um I mean he's probably penced in as probably the second or third best quarterback in the conference um is he I don't know but because play for Penn State I'm sure gets the nod over a guy like Hudson card right but yeah that'll be that'll be interesting to see how kind of where they're at at that point in the season yeah last year he put up like 25 uh touchdowns only two picks but their fans were all over him and I feel like even though he's been solid he hasn't lived up that five star hype for whatever reason so um so yeah yeah um and then uh our last two games Road contest up at Michigan State on a Friday night it's G to be freezing cold probably Yep this is my seven it's my eight and then uh at Indiana which I meant to mention on Penn State Indiana's old head coach Tom Allen is their new defensive coordinator uh so sign Yeti Chris cetti Chris or Kurt is it Chris or Kurt Kurt Kurt think KK yeah coming in from James Madison which he had a really good overall record I think his record was like 52 and N um very arrogant SOB in my opinion but I love it because that gives me a football coach I could really hate Indiana I didn't really hate Tom Allen I just thought he was weird I mean he got really weird after that bubble season with doing the whole quartet IU fight onong thing was really weird uh but this guy just seems very arrogant Indian indie star today came out and said they think IU is g to start seven and one I know they have one of I know they have one of the weakest schedules for power for school but lose year we beat Ohio State go up Michigan State lost and the only reason we even had a chance to get into rosebowl was a one in a one win I believe or two- win Iowa team beat Northwestern Northwestern yeah and then if you remember after we beat Ohio State in 2018 we went up to East Lany and lost late in the EG so yep I always go back to history because that's all I got lot of bad history in my head so I have us going in into Bloomington at five- six you have us going in four and seven four and seven yeah I think we come out of there with a win we better we come out with a win going bulling I don't care what bullet is where it's at yeah send us to Detroit I'll be excited I got a five and seven maybe you never know depending on the how the bowl situation lines up we could get a bowl at five and seven but that's true so I I realistically probably more likely five and seven than six and six yeah I'll stick with it I I think no matter what the record shows at the end of the year think we're going to be a better team yeah really if we can go into games like you know Notre Dame the big boys if we can like just show something whether it's for a half three quarters like that I just don't want to go in and then just like like kind of Ohio St last year it was like it was over obviously it was crappy weather we missed 5,000 field goals yeah we were just like man this is over quickly um I just don't want to see that um it could happen with some of these with some of these games at allio State I have that's really probably my number one in terms of confence points but but just because of Wisconsin I'm had to do it it was the first one I put down yep yep um but yeah just I just yeah I want to see improvements fights um you know obviously last year statistically Purdue was the worst defensive team in terms of points per game um so see a big Improvement you know like I mean we've kind of you we've heard it you know year one to year two Ryan Walters seems to usually take a big step you know his time at Illinois his second year their defense was one of the best in the country if not the best um so like to you know see a big jump I'm not saying we're going have the best defense but like to see us maybe midle of the pack Big 10 of the Big 10 in terms of you know just overall defense um I think they'll that'll help us because that was you know like going back to Syracuse last year our defense was just getting absolutely gashed so that Mooney said he votes sunball because that's pass I hate to say it that I don't think the Big T's affiliated with sun touchdowns and eight picks I think he does I think you say you know second year in the Graham Herold system you know the the offense really took a long time to kind of get going last year um obviously adding you know I think we have some really nice weapons with Jamal Edan hopefully CJ Smith got some guys with legit size and legit speed hopefully that can kind of um lead to some success so I'm I'm gonna go yes I'm gonna go over 3,000 I will barely but it's gonna be yeah that's my goal how about tou just run jet sweeps like I do on EA and just you're gonna rack him up it's such a cheap it's such a cheap it is um touchdowns 25 over my number was gonna be right or is it a push a push yeah I'm going slightly over at 27 okay but I do think I think his interceptions they'll go up I I think around 10 yeah around 10 yeah yeah if you can keep yeah if you can keep it below 15 that's I think that's the goal uh Devin mcabe last year um he had 172 rushing attempts he netted 807 yards okay so he was was it last year the year before he was really close to a thousand year before year before yeah yeah but I got that close to a thousand last year too because Tyron Tracy took 716 of those were Tyron Tracy okay and he had eight touchdowns and Dylan Downing who transferred had 211 and husin card had 203 that's why produ is a top five rushing yardage team in the Big 10 yeah yeah which is crazy I think I think we see something pretty similar this year um y I think I think love is definitely more he's not really receiving back is he's rusher yeah even though he's gon be on kick return possibly so even know he's more of a power pack we did that with Dylan ging too so yeah it's true um I'm gonna I think does he become produced first a thousand yard rusher since cor sheets in 2008 I don't think so I think just because of the you know you know knock on wood hopefully doesn't have the fumbling problem he had for like you know a brief spurt there last year yes um he's put on some weight which is nice um hopefully he doesn't lose any speed um I'm I'm hoping he doesn't just because I think regil love just adds I agree just a nice D and I think you know with card you know obviously last year we really thought that you know they didn't really want to they want to really protect them last year so like we never saw him run until really the end of the year yeah the end of year off he's bed up they're like yeah just go for it office really took off yeah exactly so I'm hoping we see Hudson use his legs a little bit more so I because of that I don't think not because of anything that Mak does I think just hopefully other guys were stpp up kind of like how we thought that there no way in hell that Zach Edy which God I missed him already um that he was going to be National play of the year because every else going play better well every else played better but he just got that much better he just got better yep yep um do you think mcky leads the team in rushing touchdowns if not yes yes I do I do too uh how about for receiving who leads the team in catches and catches receptions catches whatever you want to call them let's see last year like I feel like that obviously it's going be Jamal edin um I'm gonna go I love me tight ends give me Max CLA and I was just looking up Max CLA is the leading returner in receptions and that's only in five games like seven 22 in five games last year because you lost Deion Burks had 47 TJ Sheffield had 32 um uh ABD ran I'm glad I don't have to say that anymore he had 25 Garrett Miller had 30 so um I I'm going to go with Jamal Eden yeah as a leading receptions how about yards max cla's a returner in this category too I want to say Smith just because of his speed and just being able to maybe go over the top even even without playing Saturday yes okay yes I'm gonna go with Edan in this one too so I got him to leader in receptions and and and yards if he's this big body NFL type receiver they're saying I think he's gonna only a 14-point favorite Michigan State historically wins these Friday night games but not in pretty fashion seems like yeah I think I think they cover I think I think like that 17 to 21 that's exactly what I was think then you got Western Michigan at wiconsin Wisconsin is a 23 and a half Point favorite I pulled this up set off in my Dynasty then my season went to hell after that I think it's opposite H I think Wisconsin uh gets it done I would I don't cover though I don't think they cover though I think the Broncos are competitive through three quarters then the Badgers pull away for about like a 17-point win in the fourth yeah Illinois State Brock's back and his uh red are they the cardinal red birds red at Iowa who's ranked 255th and I was 22 and a half Point favorites can they out of high school yeah I lost the Florida state um made it a game but they got up early and it was hard for me to crawl out and now I've lost one game in year four I lost to Nebraska uh when I I think I was ranked number one in the country and lost Nebraska but I only fell number five I I worked my way up number three I'll take care of business I think I can bring on the hardware because Walters has the program rolling now the recruits the four stars and five stars are coming in got a good thing going so where you at I'm I'm in year three I'm getting ready to play the Big 10 championship against Oregon who I beat previously in the season when they were number one in Eugene like 3517 um I am 10 and two lost at Wisconsin shocker there no matter lost I think I lost there too in three yeah um and then I lost a home game to number 23 ranked Ruckers in one of the most infuriating games I've played in a while until last night they're annoy to play they're annoying to play yeah yeah um IU gave me a scare in the first half and then I budged them to to keep the bucket and earn a spot in the Big 10 Championship I think I'm projected two in the college football playoff right now um so I should be in no matter what it's just whether or not I get the buy or not what games did you lose in year one I lost Notre Dame yep I lost that one too by one score yeah a schedule here um I lost that Wisconsin in overtime I lost Notre Dame I think W Oregon wax me I think I won seven games I end up going like seven and six because I think I I went or should I only win six I know I lost IU game you know H State whacks me too yeah um I lost Notre Dame I think I lost Nebraska I lost Wisconsin lost Oregon lost Ohio State lost beat P State I know you beat Penn State because we both talked about we beat big- time ranked Penn State teams was that first year though yeah okay um I lost Indiana I think I went seven yeah I think I I think I went seven and five in the regular season I lost my bowl game against uh Fresno State yeah cuz I was like I being yeah I'm gonna win eight games and they beat me in the snow it's really bothered me I can't think of who I played in the bulll game in my second year it was a red te I play I think I played yeah I don't remember either who I played I no I played Boise the first year but I couldn't tell you I played in S I played Fresno State first year and then I might have played like Utah or someone I can't remember my second year I think you did play youall I think that remember I remember you text me that but I played La bow second year and then first year I played I don't remember what bowl game it was um but I lost yeah Fresno State yeah not that anybody cares but we we will probably update people as as oh yeah go on so the offseason should have been like again because we went into April um which got my exponent here from yeah I still mine I need a frame yeah I'm pretty sure I have a browser open on my laptop that I've had open for the last like five months for came on Amazon just haven't bought it it's like $12 just haven't done it yet y um birthday present to myself coming up um but it just feels like such a long off season like it just felt like like I know obviously football is a mass is a super long off season because of you know you're ending in November maybe December you know if you're lucky January but still you're going eight months at at the at the least your next season um and it's just it's for me it's a little bit harder to follow the offseason because there's so much movement oh there is with transfer portal it's a lot easier for me kind just to kind of um digest basketball offseason is a lot more um man I'm glad it's back I can't wait to be there on Saturday should be a beautiful day
