it's another Premier League match today on BBC Radio suff against shown versus Fulham our main feature back to Portman road we go to join former Town Captain Mick Mills who's alongside your commentator Brena woy after weddingday embarrassing Carib cup exit off we go again as Town tried to end a difficult opening month of the season on a high by hopefully getting their first Premier League Points well this is undoubtedly the least challenging of the blu's first three League games on paper there's nothing easy about this game and isolation far from it this is a really tricky fixture Marco Silva's built a strongl looking Squad with bags of Top Flight experience and no shortage of quality by finishing 13th last time around Fulham comfortably extended their stay in the top fight to a third season have a realistic Target of another top 10 finish something they managed a couple of years back it's what a left this would give everyone at to most importantly of course the players it can beat them be a massive confidence booster and of a very hard looking trip to Brighton off the back of the International break and when you look at this game compared to Manchester City and Liverpool Mick there's a a bit more pressure on this game isn't it for Town yes I think how I look at the uh the difference was this game as opposed to the first two I think the first two because of the occasion because of the newness and because of who we played the players would have been filled with nervousness they would have been very nervous about playing their first game here at Portman Road against a quality team like Liverpool and they would have been very nervous about going to the etad stadium to take on the Champions away from home this one is not about nervous tension it's about pressure this is the first game this season that we will have sort of met with pressure and that pressure comes from the outside it's what people expect us to do today against Fulham a lot of people locally will have automatically have looked at this picture as one that we would it will be our first win it will be our first points and it will be a a formality but that is not the case this team full of a good side you've just already mentioned they've had a couple of seasons in the Premiership they've handled it fantastically well they've finished in two good healthy positions they've added to their team this will without question be a tough tough fixture and I I I I think we're well equipped I like the new signings we're making I think we will slowly progress as the season go goes on but this one this one fixture will have immense pressure on the players there some atmosphere at Portman Road for our first 3:00 kickoff here at this season Town's third League game in total the two sets of players out in front of us Sam Mory leading IP town and their blue shirts white shorts and blue socks from right to left over the halfway line Aro Mur just behind him in all pink shaking hands with the Fulham players who currently have their tracksuit Tops on I would imagine they've got their traditional white shirts underneath certainly wearing their black shorts and white socks the you know with with our three supporting attacking players we got them all wrong Brena you know they've they've completely foxers there is Wolf oh wolon sliced it out behind 40 corner kick to Fulham that was a very cheap one that was worse than Robinson for fulham's corner kick really but uh you know from right to left our our sort of attacking players uh on the right is O Benny and then Hutchinson's got the number 10 rle and smodic has got the left side attacking role but I'm not surprised because if you ever ask a a wide attacking player what is where he plays and he' tell you all three of those positions corner kick to fullhand they're second of the game we're in the 9th minute at a packed Portman Road lovely afternoon for this game referee wants to sort something out in the northst penalty area he's gone across you don't know the geography of Port Maru that's off to our left hand side Town 10 to defend that area in the first half if they get their way with the coin toss got to say you know what you know what decision should he have made there he could have played OG Benny in comfortably and he would have had a comfortable cross shot against the goalkeeper he probably could have taken two touches on it uh but Amari Hutchin he's only 20 yards out and he he will have felt that he could just drop a shoulder move the ball one way or the other and get a shot away himself well he chose the latter I think he should have done the former but when you're in that type of position you've got the ability he's got you've got to go with him J McKenna just having a word lost to them uh in the premier league and the fact the last time Fulham beat ipswitch in a Top Flight game was the boxing day 10-1 of 1963 tended to meet in the championship and leak Cup in more mean that that that is an obvious push in the back you know and sometimes that's when officials you know just try and get too clever you know they they almost do it to up set people really that was an that they can win the game as well so we've got a good contest here um some good players on view um as I said early on in you know you you're beginning to realize that probably everybody in this division will play exactly the same way so it's it's the winners of most games will be the ones that Implement you know the method of play the best you know but we've got two two teams here now Fulham dominated The Possession early on and and looked a decent side and we had to we had to sit back there was nothing we could do about it but every time we won a loose ball and then broke and got the ball in the attacking half we looked a threat and we looked as if we could get you know our three sort of uh attacking support players to Liam deap into the game o Benny was getting enough of the ball Mari binson certainly was getting enough smodic was coming into it periodically so it wasn't always a question of defend defend defend we had our little moments and and you could have said that that Fulham hadn't really created too much from that very dominant spell it was when we had our isolated breaks that you thought there was going to be an effort at goal so it was it was uh sort of you know a decent game both teams to playing slightly differently in as much one was doing most of the defending um but the danger moves came from the the team that were doing the Breakaway football but then all of a sudden the goal came and it really did change the complex of the game so much it was a terrific Breakaway uh started with Lea Davis he picked up a ball made a surging run he gave it to Liam deap and then he ran I don't know 30 yards with the ball he should have had pre more pressure than the play players gave him but he kept running running running he's got a lot of belief he got into sort of a shooting sort of position and he drove a terrific shot into the back of the F of net then for about 10 minutes the whole game changed it looked as if town were going to really go on and maybe sort of cement a good position maybe get a second it was a good spell fullam were reeling and then you just felt that maybe the word Came From the Bench that decided no we can't keep matth going end to end here you know it makes itps which look too good let's stifle the game again and they did that they did it for about 5 minutes they stifled the game with possession play and then slowly but surely took over the game and then they got the themselves a terrific equalizer really well-worked move down the left hand side good cross in the box and and then a very good finish um and then I think fhen sort of fractionally finished the game slightly better than town but you know this is a good game um what I liked about town did a lot of Defending two Center hars headed lots of balls out of the box which I like to see um but then when we did break when we picked up loose balls we got the front four into the game so they should feel good about the game the fact that they've had enough touches and our defense should feel good about the game the fact that if they do the honest work Get It Forward they've got players in front forward areas that can actually win the game so this could go either way well we waited a long long time for an IP switch toown Premier League goal at Portman Road and when it came was worth the wa terrific strike look out for it on Match of the day tonight you know control of the game that was taken away from them by daps excellent sort of strike put town in front gave town the impetus they took control they looked really good for about 10 minutes and then a very thoughtful fullham outfit then decided to to slow the game right back down which they did and then they took control up to halim uh a very intriguing first half and interest in first half and then second half I think it was all about desire and I think Town had more desire in the second half to win three points than what Fulham had you know Fulham had their moments but Town generally speaking put on a good display in that second half and and constantly took the game to to to Fulham first half they were playing Breakaway football second half they were pinning Fulham in for long spells and and you just thought there's going to be a goal coming from somewhere but unfortunately it didn't come but we've had some decent performances I think the two center backs must take credit for the amount of balls they dispatched out of their own penalty area that's the job they've got to do if they're asked to do it they've got to do it and and they've got to give distance on the headers they did that really well um I think morsy came into the game more so credit to him I didn't think he had a really good first half but he had a good second half but it was the the four attacking plays that sort of impressed me not just in the second half when we had the upper hand but in the first half when we didn't they were very patient they kept sort of searching for positions where are overwhelm work defense and Midfield players could find them and and what they were able to get balls out up to those four players their contribution in the first half against the Runner play was very very good Hutchinson constantly in the game smodic periodically coming into game um uh aobi sorry ogbeni got enough of the ball maybe not quite enough of it and and it was just just good enough you know and they supported uh Liam dap well and gave us plenty of Brea breathers in the first half but second half was was impressive I think that we knew what we wanted and we went out to get it we wanted three points we had the desire and the belief that we could get those three points and I think that we we really tested Fulham out in that period of time Fulham came through it um they had the odd ch answer two in the second half but generally speaking second half was for 10 and important to get something on the board this first month of course it wouldn't have been the end of the world if T had lost this game they still had 35 to go but you know what I mean Mick that they're going into the break they've seen off August they have a Premier League point to their name yeah without question I mean we didn't expect anything from the first two uh but we desperately needed to get something from this game we didn't get the three but we've got the one we could have a little breather now we can you know the manager will have lots of time to talk to the players about it they can really generally sort of um take some confidence about what they've done so far you know they they uh they're coping they're coping with the division they look as if they're happy playing in the division and what I like is not all the new faces have done any you know they haven't sort of done anything they haven't had the opportunity to do it so far but people like Jacob greeves that looks an excellent signing to me you know and uh you know he's going to really give us something and bringing H Mari Hutchinson back that's that's without doubt a good signing he looks as if he's got a couple of positions in him now I never thought that in when he was first here he could be a number 10 but he did that really well today we know he can play down the right hand side uh Liam Liam deap has settled really quickly so they're three big signings that we've made especially when you're talking about the amount of money and for me that looks as if the money has been spent really really well other people are going to come into it I think when we see more of uh Jack Clark he's going to show us what he's all about Kelvin Phillips is going to settle we know he's got pedigree so you know it's it's looking pretty good you know we've got the first three games out of the way the first month's gone I think we can settle down now and and really sort of start to maybe take one or two of these teams on and and and believe that we can get a win bring on Bryson in a fortnite hip tot
