reviews Right In welcome back to the show everybody buddy and I mean what a show this is today we got some we got some election watch and we have some unfortunate news um that's kind of how it goes it's kind of the hito formula but this week it's a little bit shaken up at least you know what I'm saying so why don't we just uh dive into these five star reviews you know what I mean this first one we have two today unapologetically woke by stew art 27 first of all I condemn Hamas and political violence of any kind more than anyone else that's a that's a high bar right there that's a really high bar that you're setting here Stu I also condemn myself for not writing a review sooner now that I can really get behind like most other people I discovered the H boy through Tik Tok in the fall of 2023 and their episodes are something I look forward to every week loving living in the hellscape of Oklahoma it's nice to hear good logical takes on politics in America and around the world you can't forget the geopolitical part I hope to One Day become a Sunday suprem mesis so I can hear the gospel the way it was intended keep up the good work and indoctrinating people to woke to the woke communist left that's what we do here that's what the show is about this next review by JD Vance's couch and E excellent woke mind virus I found out about the hdle boys for my for you page and the first thing I thought was godamn I got a form a parasocial relationship with these guys after listening to them beg and beg for five star reviews I end it here writing a revieww I'm currently a Wednesday weeny but will in time be a Sunday supremacist I love tuning in to the number one geopolitical podcast where we passionately condemn Hamas and all political violence much love from the Communist hellscape of Southern California yeah it's it's it's rough out there buddy but I'm I'm sending love right back real nonp parasocial love and look we got a we got a couple announcements we got to get through before we really dig into the the election watch 2024 the real election watch 2024 that's going on we got the the HD postcard program debuted what month or two ago we sent out the postcards hopefully you all have received the postcards if you're a rightful recipient of them at the very least $5 up on patreon.com you know where to go get the episodes early get the postcards get get it all in get the good benefits you know what I'm saying it's starting from uh I guess it's Sunday today if this episode is going up Monday then yesterday Sunday when I'm recording at night cuz I got back from the airport real late you know how that [ __ ] you know what I'm saying um we're going to have this week be open for signups for the next postcard that's going in it's Banger design we already got a cook and you know how we do around here but you will have until next Sunday whatever that date is today is Sunday the 8th that's probably going to be like what Sunday the [ __ ] uh 15th or something like that I wasn't a math major don't hold me to it but either way uh yeah so that's going with the H postcard program if you want to sign up for the patreon you've got you've got a week to do it or I guess you've got a couple days to do it since you would be hearing this on wind you can sign up there's a form at the top that you can sign up for the postcard program do that and whatnot um if you're a Wednesday weenie hopefully this this will be the day after the debate if you're Sunday supremacist we will still be going live despite Jeremy's desperate condition he's doc docs got him loaded up on opioids we're going to be going live from his crib today you know I'm recording from my crib we're going to go to his crib to go live for the presidential debate on Tuesday hopefully that all goes well Wednesday weenies let us know if it went well in the comments um I'm I'm cautiously optimistic but you know how I feel if you watched the last week's episode and uh that's that's it for the announcements remember sign up for the postcard program if you haven't and um I guess it's time to just dive right into the show Now isn't it so a quick disclaimer this episode is once again in the unfortunate position of not having any debate reactions we can't do it the new cycle it's a it's it's a curse that has uh constantly befallen us damn near week after week we were able to escape it for two measly months and for good news let me tell you but um we're right back into new big news dropping on Mondays and Tuesdays and debate Tuesday night what do you what are you g to do what are you g to do you know what I'm saying so we won't be able to have reactions in this episode but next episode when uh it's old news when maybe Harris drops out and somebody else comes in or maybe some incredible shakeup happens like the last debate uh you know we'll be here to talk about it just like we are every single Sunday and Wednesday if that's what you're all about but um if you're not catching the live show and you want to see our immediate reactions to the debate you can go check out the YouTube channel and watch the live replay it's going to be up unless CNN or whoever chooses to strike it down like they did one time I think that horrible circumstance I know but um despite recording this video before the debate we can we can we can we can still brief you we can do some election talk and maybe you dear listener can let us know in the comments after the debate if things will change I I I hope they don't I've uh there's there's been too much shakeup there's been too many shakeups these past two months if uh if you know what I'm saying how could you not you know what I mean well more like this last month because um I really don't recall anything happening you know like shortly before Joe Biden stepped down maybe a week before Joe Biden stepped down I don't think anything really happened um if you think something happened let me know in the comments but today we have some polling that we can dive into out of this debate so as of September 6th 538 aggregate polling puts Election Watch (pre-debate) kamla Harris 3.1 points ahead of Donald Trump of course National polling doesn't really matter here it's more so about the swing States but uh it's still like a nice figure to see I think the Democrat needs at least three point a three-point lead in the um what is it the popular vote to be able to just have any chance at winning here we we kind of got it we got it by a little inch by a little margin you know what I'm saying but uh let's dive into to see swing state by swing state what's really going on so in Arizona we are just tied Georgia tied Michigan Harris is up by two points PA Harris is up by less than one point Nevada we're tied North Carolina we are tied if not Trump is ahead by maybe like a few like a insignificant margin you know what I mean and in Wisconsin Harris is up by around three points so um the this is according to 538 data they have their own methodology for weighing results of the polls polling is of course uh sent to us from the Devil Himself up from hell and it's uh it can be misleading it can be intentionally deceitful sometimes but most importantly it's just a snapshot of the time that the polls were collected of the people who picked up the phone answered the emails and whatnot and we can use this to kind of see trends that are happening and especially it's nice to see what trends are looking like before the debate and it's been cool to see that Harris is uh consistently ticking upward she's she's got the momentum she hasn't bungled it yet even though she very well could uh that's kind of what we're looking for when it comes to post- debate shakeups you know what I'm saying but uh we're going to go out on a limb here and you know I speak for Jeremy and myself when I play this when I say this but even though it's kind of a hot take uh guys I hate to break it to you but the race is still a toss up you know what I'm saying the the race is still absolutely very much a toss out too early to call just regardless of polling it's never a good idea to get comfy to get complacent you still want to do all the things even if Harris was up by 10 so was Hillary right we you still want to get people out to vote you still want to try your hardest to maintain enthusiasm despite her kind of uh shift to the center that we'll get into in a little bit but um it's it's very important to just lock in just lock in and keep Ming keep keep pushing forward if you will um and a side not early voting in Pennsylvania is going to start on September 16th that is very soon that is like a week and some change away and the 10,000 median voters in PA that are uh the the super voters if you will that are set to uh decide the fate of our country can certainly decide that early on hell maybe by September 7th uh the election is uh basically called you know what I'm saying uh those uh if only we had some exit polls for early voting that would certainly be interesting to see and it's it's been funny Jeremy noted that it's been funny to see Trump promoting early voting too even though um all of 2020 he's been going on talking about how mail and bells are fraudulent early voting is fraudulent you need to be there day of to cast your vote what we we we got these uh Detroit 3: a.m. ballot dumps thanks to early voting and whatnot uh that's been an interesting thing to see once again uh Trump being a principled actor Trump uh standing on his axioms and just uh logically building up his positions he's never once gone back he's never once flip-flopped like KLA Harris does you know he's a he's a consistent strong man and that's that that that's how he's going through this election right but now again this is pre-debate so I cannot stress enough that we we can't predict what is going to happen at two days from now when I'm recording this um but but we we can have a little bit of fun with some stuff that came out right like uh like personally speculating on what the October surprise is going to be I I personally I I gotta say it's going to have to be Netanyahu doing something crazy I I I this has been a notoriously unpredictable election cycle um nobody could have predict Trump getting shot in the year you you could kind you could predict Biden dropping out after the debate but it was still a tossup and you definitely could not predict that [ __ ] before the debate we famously uh we we famously had some other takes before the debate that did not age very well you know what I'm saying not that they were wrong they absolutely were not wrong 100% I stand by them but um Biden dropping out was a surprise again this is [ __ ] October surprise we've had an August surprise and the [ __ ] June surprise it's I digress I digress you know what I mean um me personally I've had enough surprises for one election cycle and uh um every time I think the surprises are done something new just insane happens and um I got to give a shout out to enemy of the show JD Vance because he's just he's just surprise after surprise after surprise every time it's every time this dude gets in front of a mic it's I I can't fathom the [ __ ] that comes out of his mouth it's it's actually insane right and even this week he had a moment that we'll talk about in a little bit but like what is he doing it's I know he's he's in the running favorability wise for worst VP pick of all time but I'm if I'm to make one prediction here just pre-debate pre-election pre- whatever I got to say that this guy is the worst VP pick of all time he cannot he cannot make a statement that just isn't the weirdest [ __ ] thing you have ever heard isn't damn near the most like inappropriate thing that could come out of his mouth it's crazy that guy that guy hates women you know what I'm saying I just I don't know I don't know but um zooming out a little bit we want to talk about uh spend some time talking about endorsements specifically one very uh notable Infamous whatever you call it endorsement that kind of came out this week uh this week it was announced that Dick Cheney himself will be voting for kamla Harris I I'mma just let you you know Jan you know what I'm saying um possibly one of the most evil men alive right now responsible for orchestrating the Iraq War and I think there's a Iraq war invasions of Afghanistan the horrible things that we were involved in in the Middle East right and I think there's a um there's a really great bit of irony when it comes to Dick Cheney endorsing kamla Harris right because she one of one of the main lines of attack against kamla Harris is that she is vice president right now she has an active role in the administration right now why is she not doing the things that she is saying in her agenda why is she not trying to push for the policy that she has been pushing rhetoric for with her actual job and you know principled actors like us here at hio will say it's because the vice president doesn't [ __ ] do anything the vice president exists to sometimes break tie votes in the Senate and be there right but Dick Cheney he he runs uh he bucks the trend a little bit famous infamously this guy's the only vice president to ever do anything and boy was it bad so that's that's you know it be that as it may but that's the situation that we're really uh we're rocking with right here and I I just I can't really wrap my head around why a guy like Dick Cheney is choosing now to endorse kamla has is her shift to the right actually working have there been some back door deals going on is is is the tent too godam damn big I or or is it maybe Trump like has Trump genuinely gone too far right or are the establishment players in the Republican Party perceiving Trump as not necessarily going too far right with his policy because they want all these shitty things too uh but more so as being so unfavorable that they don't want to publicly associate them with him they see that he's might lose a November again I don't want to make any calls it's a tossup and they think maybe maybe I should exit this when I can and engage in sort of a what is it like a conservative Rebrand or a washing the hands of these negative policy associations even though those negative policy associations should always be there there's this kind of unique um abrasiveness that comes with Trump that a lot of people don't like that you it it's kind of like the whole thing where it's like you you bring up a like a mark IST principle or a policy that follows Marxist principles policy that would follow for material analysis right talk about decommodification of housing or you more more aptly and more I guess um tangible and like real you talk about big Pharma and you talk about how the profit motive is what's uh what's really the issue with big Pharma it's not these other [ __ ] stupid things that big Wellness wants to push and if you just talk about it in that way where it's like yeah I don't like how much money these far pharmaceutical companies are making you're going to have more leeway it's going to be easier to break into a conversation with rhetoric and have I guess normal people agree with you than if you're going to say yeah you know following from Marx's principles the the Socialist solution to this this issue of big Pharma would be to decommodify the pharmaceutical industry and just distri engage in a radical de you know what I mean I digress um I'm wondering if maybe establishment conservative players are thinking that they can just kind of reframe The Vibes around the issue you know got to get that classic HDO Vibes policy access going and uh guys like Dick Cheney I guess just maybe want to Buck truck or you know more sinisterly dig Chene is just he himself is trying to repair his Public Image again e EV one of the evilest men alive it's a if if there's a tier list he's he's definitely made it into s you know what I'm saying and that's not that's not a good place you want to be in that kind of tier list um to be fair to him even though he maybe doesn't deserve it it was Liz Cheney who said how her father would be voting it I don't think dick himself made a statement and uh Liz Cheney the only thing she's ever really done is be anti-trump so I don't know maybe she's lying it runs in the family you know what I'm saying but um that's the that's the situation we're in and there's been a really weird reaction from like a lot of people about this it's um there was a conservative meme that I kind of found myself agreeing with earlier and you know broken clocks and whatnot throwing up [ __ ] at the wall and uh it was just one of those things where it's like uh oh liberals used to say Dick Cheney was a war criminal but now they're cheering on his endorsement it's like yeah because in my mind an endorsement from Dick Cheney you know Mr Mr Afghanistan Mr Iraq war Mr what Mr all the bad things that happened under Bush right that's damn near an anti- indorsement like I I I don't want that guy on my side you know what I mean I feel like that's not anything to really like that's that's not too crazy to wrap your head around and there's these uh these like Tulsi gabard types who are pretending to who pretend to be anti-war are just kind of going to use this as a reason to say that Democrats are worse for war than Republicans they already try to do this with no new no war started under Trump whatever [ __ ] Jared Kushner brought peace to the Middle East even though that's damn near the biggest lie that I've ever heard you know what I mean but yeah there's there's a lot of people that are that that are really going to use this anti-s as I'm calling it as just a way to pin Democrats is proar and that uh that kind of sucks ultimately they both are but I feel like the The Vibes of that issue are more so in favor of Republicans I don't really know though it's not something that really gets pushed in like the the the popular political Zeitgeist anymore you know I mean it's kind of a it's kind of old thing nobody really wants to talk about [ __ ] Ukraine funding anymore the the no new Wars thing I don't know if it really works I don't know what it really works um but yeah ultimately whichever side Dick Cheney wants to vote for is just that that just looks bad to me I don't think it looks bad to regular people um but but to me it just it doesn't sit right I can't be mad at KLA Harris or her team for coming out and being like Oh yeah wow look at us look at how common sense our policies are but um just because I think it'd be bad strategy to flat out reject the endorsement I mean what are you going to do you know what I mean clearly she's trying to at least rhetorically move right to capture the uh the the the hellish mind of the median voter but I don't really no gang I don't really no gang it's kind of a it's a tough situation to be in even though it's it's notable to note that every other Republican that was working under George George W bush um they still [ __ ] with Trump like it it's just this guy it's probably a one-off situation it'll probably get three people in non swing states to vote for or you know maybe it'll maybe it'll sway The elusive Pennsylvania voter you can't really nail their politics down maybe a maybe like three of them will go over but that's uh that's that's certainly a Beyond parody bit of news that we had there right and while we're kind of talking about the topic of trump and War and no new Wars under Trump trump being such a dove Trump being this peace Ling guy it's very important to remember that Trump increased not not only did Trump increase drone strikes in places like Yemen uh then got rid of reporting rules for drone strikes he withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal the jcpoa he was too scared to withdraw troops from Afghanistan so he he drafted this plan that he just kind of sat on and then Biden used it and then got all the backlash for and he himself shits on bid for the plan that he made up you know make it make sense whatever um he he did the Abraham records which we've talked about in this podcast many times as being utter utterly awful right um he he moved the [ __ ] um oh goodness the US Embassy in Israel from oh gosh what is it Tel Aviv to Jerusalem just increasing tensions in that very very hot region at the time you know what I mean and list just goes on and on and on Trump was not some anti-war dude you know what I mean it's just a it's really frustrating to argue with the people that think he was everyone knows 2024 it's an election year right you know what else is an immutable fact Wednesday weenies always lose to the Weekly News cycle you're always behind this is even more undeniable in 2024 the the these Prime Iowa CAU is happening on a Monday super Tuesday that's in the name Wednesday weenie again in the name if you want to get ahead of the news cycle you need to head on over to patreon.com headthe office pod listen if you want the news when it happens rather than after it happens consider becoming a patron it's a good way to support the show and it's a good way to stay up to date on everything this year as we deal with this tumultuous election season together wear that head in the office Patron badge on your sleeve you can run around always I'm a patron in the office I get the news when it happens back to the episode now uh oh goodness enemy of the JD Vance with more fumbles show JD Vance he's going to be a little of a running theme throughout this episode right and right now I just kind of wanted to take take a moment to sort of uh Center him and specifically Center an interview he did this week with Char Charlie Kirk at some Turning Point USA event uh and in it he was sort of talking it Charlie Kirk asked him about child care and um this this is the answer that he had to say that this a question from Hayden with Rising costs on everything daycare is very expensive we pay 7 $25 a month for it and that's the lowest we found in this area what can we do about lowering the cost of daycare Hayden obviously a working family and it's very hard for Working Families to get by how will we lower the cost of daycare you such an important question Charlie and I think one of the things that we can do is make it easier for family models to choose or for families to choose whatever model they want right so one of the ways that you might be able to relieve a little bit of pressure on people who are paying so much for daycare is make it so that that you know maybe like Grandma small Grandpa wants to help out a little bit more or maybe there's an aunt or uncle that wants to help out a little bit more if that happens you relieve some of the pressure on all the resources that we're spending in daycare now you talk about just daycare let's say you don't have somebody who who can provide that extra set of hands what we've got to do is actually Empower people to get trained in the skills that they need for the 21st century we've got a lot of people who love kids who would love to take care of kids but they can't either because they don't have access to the education that they need or maybe more importantly because the the state government says you're not allowed to take care of children unless you have some ridiculous certification that has nothing to do absolutely just batshit crazy in response right and it's kind of broken up into two sections first you have the uh the just the blanket answer to the question Child Care is too expensive what would you do about what would your Administration do about it to which JD Vance response nothing we're not going to do anything about it actually call phone grandma ring Grandma's line and then uh maybe maybe she can come over and help the kids which just you know sounds that sounds like a solution if you're a person who has never had to actually worry about child care because the people who have to worry about the cost of child care are people who do not have family members to fall back on it's like it's not rocket science right if if Grandma and Grandpa or an aunt and uncle were available and willing to help I I don't think Child Care would be such a [ __ ] crisis in this country I don't think there would be a necessary crisis of affordability in this country when it comes to it if the family was stepping up but it just speaks to how out of touch these guys are and it's such a [ __ ] non-answer right and then we go to the second part of what he has to say and the second part of what he has to say is just I think so much more subtly just just great right great in an insane way and it's uh it's just it centers around let's cut the red tape you know there's too much red tape when it comes to people who want to uh take care of children it's not that people who work at daycare centers are paid [ __ ] shitty incredibly shitty wages to take care of other people's kids to work ridiculous hours it's not that daycare centers receive just such shitty funding that they can barely function and again pay their workers so little it's not those issues it's the fact that the state is coming in and requiring people who are tasked with taking care of your kids tasked with your child's health and well-being for like [ __ ] 8 nine 10 hours of the day they have to have certifications and that's that's just too Goddamn much you know we need to lower the barrier of entry for people to take care of other people's children like you you you can't be serious right now you genuinely cannot be serious his solutions to the afford ability crisis with child care are Grandma and Grandpa and uh just leave your kids with a stranger with just with an unqualified stranger it's it's [ __ ] it's genuinely baffling I don't understand how these guys have been elevated to such [ __ ] positions of power he's a sitting Senator whether or not he goes on to win the vice presidency in November whether or not Trump wins he's still going to have a position of power for what the next four years that that is mindblowing one of the most powerful people in the goddamn country for the next four years and he's making statements like this he's making other crazy statements in weeks prior like I just I don't fundamentally understand dude we we're in such a broken place like this this is the bad place and that's not that's not not to also mention that conservatives are the ones who have direct conservatives and JD fance and not JD fance conservatives and uh Joe mansion and Kiron Cinema are the people who have damn near directly created this crisis of affordability or directly ramped up how hard it is to get child care in this country how hard it is to afford child care in this country we used to have more robust funding more robust subsidies for these uh these uh these facilities these daycare facilities and when we were going through that whole build bath better Saga uh what was it like 2 3 years back when we first started the podcast there was uh and we lost $15 minimum wage we also lost funding for these facilities it's Republicans and two Democrats mind you but all 50 Republicans did not want you to be able to afford a child care they directly voted for you to have to pay more for child care and yet they're telling you right now no no no no no no no no no we're not even going to pretend to do the actual responsible government governmental thing and maybe even just like lie about funding these facilities maybe even lie about subsidies we're going to go in and we're just going to Grandma and Grandpa Grandma Grandpa leave your kids with anybody literally anyone they don't have to have even a certificate I can't do it Trump uh Trump was asked this question later in the week right uh I I assume in response to the damn near irresponsible thing his running mate said at a different conference and Trump's answer was oh tariffs Trump trump was asked what specific legislation would you support to help this issue with child care or do you think child care cost is an issue and What legislation would you push to help address it and Trump said oh uh yeah it's an issue uh tariffs he said he said child care cost they're they're so tiny compared to all the money that we're going to be bringing in these terrorist child care costs they're so so tiny and insignificant they're not tiny and insignificant to the people who are paying ridiculous amounts of their income to afford it but I that's just one thing that's just the InTouch thing to say right uh Donald Trump billionaire who probably had a [ __ ] opair for his children he he didn't he he's not going to frame that right you know what I'm saying there's a out of touchness there he's not the Every Man a lot of conservatives think he is but he gets on there and he's like yeah no these childcare costs are relatively tiny I'm going to I'm going to do a tariff that every other country is going to pay and that cost is not going to come back on the consumer even though you know damn nearby necessity tariffs are always pushed back onto the consumer cuz you know that's what they're for they're to disin incentivize the buying of foreign Goods but what the [ __ ] do I know you know what I mean but he thinks he he thinks tariff revenue is what's going to bring down the cost of child care not because he's going to subsidize it but just because you know what I mean and I thought that that was interesting one because not only is he doubling down on not having a response to one of the biggest economic issues plaguing this country right now but he's also just double triple quadrupling down on this idea that just tariff 100% tariff on whatever is going to solve any anything and like that is that is such an unserious policy and I understand believe me that nobody cares about policy I do I preach it on this [ __ ] show right but like that is such an asinine policy that I I I I don't even know if it's polling well how can why why do him and his team think it's a good idea to keep just backing up on these tariffs it's it's mind-blowing it it truly is you know never interrupt your enemy in the midst of a mistake but um the the the the rhetoric in me just uh I can't stand it I cannot stand it it's ridiculous this episode ah had in the office is brought to you by head in the office.com if you head over to head the office office.com you can support the show by getting in on our brand new merch drop and it's a it's a pretty good merch drop people we' got shirts available we've got hats available we got all kinds of stuff you can buy and if you want to support the show and more importantly rep the show yeah you can head over to head in the office.com and purchase some merch go for it we got we got dad caps that are green like money we got stickers we got magnets we got basically anything you could possibly want and if you don't get in I'll be upset me too back to the episode now uh Another day in America kind of moving on from elections and post- debate pre-debate shows we got a transition in the more I guess tragic half of the episode uh with just talking about something that's become all too common in America and that was um last week on Wednesday there was yet another school shooting here in the United States another big National one right this time it was in Georgia at appalache high school the details of the shooting itself are it feels weird weird to say it but they're fairly normal and it feels especially weird to say it once you think about what normal is right because there's not there's not much in this case that is out of the ordinary when it comes to school shootings this just sort of Bal evil that we're all forced to live with in this country but we'll get into it right here so a 14-year-old student at the high school opened fire on Wednesday morning killing four people in total it was two teachers and two students and injuring several more police were police were able to catch and detain the shooter this time and so he's now in custody there I imagine trials are already starting to go things are already going and whatnot police were also able to um catch and detain his father as we get into in a little bit but um the right-wing conservatives have just already tried to spin this as uh yet another uh member of the lgbtq does a mass shooting um because dude had long hair and that that shit's gay now you know what I'm saying genuine just Nazi rhetoric like I I I don't know how else to put it it is fundamentally absurd and as we'll talk about sort of uh later on in this segment they have nothing conservatives have nothing to fall back on when it comes to the issue of school shooting all they have is just to deflect just mass shooting in general all they can do is just deflect right it's either it's either gay or it's minority like racial minority and and when it's not they try to pin him as secretly gay I've seen so many threads talking oh white PR I it's it's it's a strange times we live in strange clown world you know what I'm saying but um what's uh what what's what's like both more remarkable and also the normal that I was alluding to a couple minutes ago is the uh way in which law enforcement just totally dropped the ball ahead of the mass shooting right so according to ABC this uh the student was on a watch list as of May 2023 when the FBI received reports that the same student was making online threats about doing a school shooting haven't we heard this story a couple of times the local sheriff's office interviewed the father who admitted to having several guns in the house and they even notified nearby schools about the risk of this kid when it comes to I don't know committing a school shooting doing a school shooting and yet the shooting still [ __ ] happened I what is the point of of this process when we we have so many the [ __ ] Parkland shooter was on a watch list damn near every [ __ ] school shooter is on some registry I don't know registry watch list are on the radar of the FBI yet every single time nothing is done to stop this stuff from happening and maybe maybe there are times the FBI does stop a school shooter before they go on to shoot a school based on these online threats and these lists or anonymous tips and whatnot and you just don't hear about them but I I think it's telling that almost every single time almost if not every single time a school shooting happens suspect was known to the FBI come on now it's it's it's a it's it's a borderline [ __ ] cliche right like we all expect it when we hear this stuff I and just what's the point we we have some laws on the books but maybe they're not being enforced I know we've uh we've been struggling to get red flag laws in place but you would think just with the sheer persistency of this [ __ ] story structure we would be able to find some common ground but uh yet again we have not been able to um at least the cops on the scene did their job and were able to arrest the kid I I I think I've also seen that the father is uh in custody now because there's an ongoing investigation by the FBI so you know I don't who knows uh by the FBI into if the father bought uh the kid who committed the school shooting the gun that he did the shooting with for Christmas the Christmas prior also another damn near [ __ ] cliche when it comes to the uh the subject matter but what do I know you know what I mean well those those are the facts of the incident right and Switching gears from that we we got to talk about a hit classic baby we got to talk about narratives and policy it's it's kind of what we do you know what I mean and while I still kind of personally believe that general just assault weapon banss are uh are would be a pretty good pretty good way to handle situations like this um I I I that's kind of what we see advocated for and it's it's the advocacy that we see mostly centers around that idea and it's not working it's not really getting anything done you know what I mean like we we've had limited gun form under Biden and even with that states like New York have been trying to do their thing been trying to you know make it harder for [ __ ] like this to happen and we had a scotus decision coming down bruan versus NY Rifle and Pistol that set this uh this insane precedent authored by Clarence Thomas that's uh G to make it really hard for gun reform to go forward in the future but I I'm still hopeful and I think more politically feasible than advocating for an allout assault weapon ban is this idea in the context of school shooting specifically that um we have these national standards that could be implemented with regards to firearm safety right this this idea that just federally there needs to be legislation that says if you have a gun you need to keep it safely stored you need to keep it in a safe it needs to be whatever just it cannot be easily accessible by people who uh should not be accessing them to say the least and I say that that needs to happen federally because it's not happening in in I guess a meaningful capacity at the state level which kind of blew my mind I thought something like this would be um so sort of uh Bal and insignificant that it'd Bey on the books everywhere but no um as it stands only about 27 of the 50 27 States plus DC currently have laws pertaining to the safe storage of firearms mindboggling what the [ __ ] Georgia where this shooting happened is not one of them um a a lot of these school shootings could have been prevented if a minor did not have unfettered access to firearms and there's usually kind of two Avenues by which this happens right you have the parent not properly storing their own firearms in the case of uh Ethan crumbly here in Michigan or you have an irresponsible parent who is gifting their child a gun I as we have allegedly here and as we have in [ __ ] a lot of the other ones you know what I I mean it's a it's a it's a [ __ ] cliche it's a thing that goes on at this point no matter how insane that is and I'm not here to say that you are necessarily irresponsible if you do give your child a gun but I am saying that a lot of irresponsible parents who are not paying attention to their kids like this guy are gifting their children guns and they're doing bad things with them you know that's where the irresponsible part of this comes in right and I'm I'm still just just blown away that all of the school shootings that have happened because there's a lot of them that goes on hell I was even [ __ ] in one right I I at College I got the Spartan strong shirt on right now if you're watching the video I wasn't I didn't hear the shots I wasn't in the building but I was damn near [ __ ] 500 feet away from the building when my classmates were getting shot at it it's such a pervasive thing that it's like you almost always know somebody who's been involved it's it it's nuts it's nuts and uh not to Center this on me to get back to podcast really quick and get back to policy you know what I mean um safe storage policies are obviously good and certainly good but when they're implemented alone and without support it is um infamously hard to enforce them before the bad thing actually happens right because we want laws like this to prevent bad things from happening and instead if that's the only kind of Avenue we go down it's just punishment after the fact fact and that's that's not necessarily helpful right and excuse me the other solution is like cops cannot and should not be able to constantly monitor you within the bounds of your own home to to to sort of make sure that you are always safely storing your firearm that's not a reasonable solution this needs to be implemented in conjunction with other matters so with other measures but I mean like what else can we advocate for and um for this little segment I'd like to uh take another journey across the aisle and see what our friends over there on the uh on the right of the spectrum are uh are sort of touting and advocating for and that is the uh just locking down of schools right and enter JD Vance once again this this guy's kind of a running theme is being just awful this not only this election but this episode right even more astonishing is the fact that this guy somehow had something worse to say he had something else to say that is damn near devastatingly bad I he this guy just can't stop losing I you know we we've been saying here that John James in Michigan losingest man in American politics right he lost so many races he finally got a consolatory house seat here in Michigan but um what whatever the lose whatever losing is when it comes to rhetoric JD Vance is the losingest guy in American political rhetoric is this guy cannot he he cannot make a good statement right so let's just get into it at a phoenix rally JD Vance spoke on the appalache school shooting and said this quote if these psychos are going to go after our kids we've got to be prepared for it we don't have to like the we don't have to like the reality that we live in but it is the reality that we live in we've got to deal with it another statement that he made quote I don't like that this is a fact of life but if you're a psycho and want to make headlines you realize that our schools are soft targets and we have got to bolster security at our schools I'm just going to let you uh I'm just going to let you all sit with that kind of statement for a second both of those statements for a second right there this this is our reality we have to live in it I'm sorry sir like I like I godamn like I said earlier you are a sitting Senator you have a position of power here you are one of the most powerful people in the [ __ ] legislature the branch of government that does things about this you could advocate for gun control you could advocate for a meaningful solution within the bounds of your power not excuse me not only could you advocate for this thing for a solution you could Implement a solution you could literally sponsor a solution today in the Senate but he's not going to do that cuz he doesn't actually give a [ __ ] and that's kind of the problem with goddamn Republicans is they act like these mass shootings are just as he said a fact of life when this is the only country where this [ __ ] regularly happens the death of school children to them is just the cost of being free like it's it's it's it's it's mindboggling I I apologize for uh being so mind-boggled this episode but like how could you not this guy sucks right and rather than do any sort of meaningful gun reform conservative politicians will just look you in the eye and say that we should solve school shootings by uh turning our schools into these maximum security prisons with [ __ ] I don't know medical detectors and metal detectors and armed guards around every corner right and while to some I guess that sounds like a solution even if it did work out and policies Were Somehow implemented to make every teacher a good guy with a gun schools aren't the place schools aren't the only place where people get shot up you know what I mean because I mean not just from JD Vance but it seems like every single conservative has been latching out of this idea for the last couple years that oh no yeah we're not even going to pretend to care about guns themselves right and if you do you're a dirty communist we're just gonna arm teachers as some state legislators have uh genuinely proposed right some state senators have genuinely proposed or GOP politicians are actually proposing that we should just give teachers guns to solve school shooting so if a student is there to kill his classmates then a teacher should have to kill their student what a wonderful that's just that's the reality that we live in you know that's just a fact of life you know what I mean we we got to put the metal detectors up at every door we got to just [ __ ] lock that [ __ ] down but like I said schools aren't the only place that people get shot up right and just to put it in perspective in again the reality that we live in because I actually live in reality days after the Georgia high school shooting the appalache high school shooting there was another shooting on a Kentucky interstate [ __ ] I75 that killed seven people killed even more people on a goddamn highway right should we have checkpoints every exit that just just to make sure no one is going to do anything dubious when they get on to go to work every morning you know what I mean and I got I I I I got General beef with JD Vance's framing of schools as these soft targets it's it's just demonstrably and plainly [ __ ] crazy it puts this onus of responsibility on the schools themselves for their and their quote security right and I have to pose this question if a school is a soft Target due to what conservatives perceive as its lack of security then what isn't because as we've seen many times and as we have unfortunately covered ourselves on this [ __ ] show supermarkets get shot up Office Buildings get shot up concerts get shot up bars get shot up clubs get shot up interstate highways get shot up it's not just schools and all those other things have varying levels of security right is is everything that's not a military base a goddamn soft target if the only proposed Solutions involve a constant ramping up of security so much so that we quickly approach a place where we're sacrificing our everyday freedoms like I don't know being able to move and go to the grocery store kind of un relatively unimpeded without going through sort of TSA style security if we're exchanging that for the freedom to have an AR-15 that sits in a safe and makes it out to the range Maybe once or twice a year is that really worth it like if you really think it through if we have to sit here and constantly ramp up security just so that a couple guys can own just crazy guns that they're never going to shoot or they're going to shoot twice is that a world that any of us really want to live in is that a meaningful world and even if Society went the direction that they wanted to and we armed every single teacher had military personnel at every door had every goddamn public space on lockdown that's not going to stop kids from getting shot in the parking lot you know what I mean and that is the reality that we live in that is the reality that we have to contend with so in addition to safe storage laws for the people that own firearms because I'm not anti- owning Firearms but in addition to having requirements that their stored safely there needs to be just in general more strict and robust and damn near rigorous processes to be able to become a firearm owner in the first place you need to be able to demonstrate that you will be responsible with it you should not be able to just go to a gun show and [ __ ] buy one and I'm not the crazy one for suggesting that you know what I mean it's just either way it's so so [ __ ] tragic that once again we have to come on here and we have to talk about it and the news is going to talk about it and people are there's going to be more calls for gun control then nothing is going to happen because unfortunately there if nothing happened after Uvaldi godddamn kindergarten classroom nothing's going to happen after this nothing's going to happen after the next one it's there there needs to be a general cultural shift for something to happen or people I don't know I want to say people need to get sick of it but I I feel like people have gotten sick of it and gotten so sick of it that it's just not an issue that's at the top of their minds you know what I mean but either way some something's got to give and I'm going to remain hopeful and I'm going to lock in that something will eventually give and literally children will stop dying and you you can't separate this from conservatives because they're the ones that are impeding our progress here right and it's just the the party that loves to invoke children when it comes to I don't know being anti-tr and anti-lgbtq writes loves to talk about saving the kids and the kids are being indoctrinated is the one that is standing in the way of kids not getting shot in school make it make sense you know what I'm saying you know what one of my favorite activities is what reading oh I love reading I love literature and one of my favorite things to read are the reviews we get on Apple podcast always not only do I love to read them but it's a really great way to support the show if you want to help us out go and leave a festar review on Apple as always we read them here on the show and if you want to make me happy if you want to become my non-p parasocial friend that's right one step on the thousand steps that it takes to get there it's to leave a five star review on Apple we'd really appreciate it just remember my friendship it's for sale and if you want to become one of my friends you can go to the patreon or completely for free you can leave a review on Apple and even if you don't want to become my friend don't you want to see another human smile exactly so consider leaving a review on Apple really helps out the show show it's a free way to do it and uh you'll be one step closer to being a real friend of ours exactly now with that back to the episode Switching gears over to our famous geopolitics coverage Geopolitics: Israel & Gaza um once again this week is kind of uh more the same in that we are not any closer to a ceasefire deer deal than I I feel like we ever have been you know what I mean and that line is basically at uh at zero it quickly spiked in November of uh last year when we had a brief ceasefire that got some hostages back home but uh since then that it has firmly been zero I feel like everybody's a goddamn obstructionist once again Anthony blinkin has the fakest job in American politics right and that's a that's a that's a low bar that's a really low bar and bro can't even clear it you know what I mean nothing's getting done but um I more and more of the media coverage surrounding the ceasefire is sort of focusing on the idea that um Netanyahu will not let go of the Philadelphia Corridor right and this week we have some statements that he made it sort of made it out of these leaks from mediators and uh overall speculation about what's going on and what people are saying somebody said to Netanyahu coming out with his full chest speaking to foreign journalists and making a couple notable statements like this one quote Gaza must be demilitarized and this can only happen if the Philadelphia Corridor remains under firm control he said uh claiming Israeli troops had discovered dozens of tunnels under the Border once again just a claim I from what I could tell this isn't [ __ ] verified as the AP reports no one has verified this claim he's just saying that there are many many tunnels under the border between Gaza and Egypt and I mean it could be true I'm not denying it but that's what's that's that's what's going on he said Israel will only consider withdrawing from the corridor when presented with alternative Force to police it then going on to say quote bring me anyone who will actually show us that they can actually prevent the reoccurrence of smuggling I don't see that happening right now and until that happens we're there so it's really interesting there how the AP reports that he's open to uh a foreign Force like the UN maybe I don't know just spitball and throwing something out there coming in and taking control of the corridor but while he's open to it he doesn't believe that there's a single person in the world that can do other than the IDF so I I don't know the reporting from last week and the week before say that in private he is not willing to let anybody else do it I'm going to stick with that because I mean just taking his words at face value he is not willing to let anyone else do it and that's the sticking point in this uh these ceasefire talks once again for I think the third or fourth week in a row with that being the surface uh at the surface so that's that's [ __ ] that's that's just a plain unfortunate how else do you put that there you know what I mean um it's reported that uh the blinkin is trying to do his job and they're trying to sort of uh draft up a new deal but who knows if anybody is going to agree to this one nobody seems to want to get an actual deal done and it's unfortunate because people are literally dying and with that I on the topic of people dying uh unfortunately it brings me to um another story out of not Gaza but Israel that happened this week about a a young 26-year-old American woman who was killed in the West Bank at a protest right they were protesting the uh these Israeli settlements in the West Bank because they're bad International Community recognizes them as bad I think the the icj or the ICC ruled them as illegal you know rightful appro pretty good thing to protest I agree with protesting bad things and the the the IDF killed her um just what seems like uh just this pretty Brazen and coldblooded act right I mean from what I can tell there's not a lot of detail surrounding it other than she was at a protest the people who organized the protest say there had been no altercations around the time that she was killed she was killed by an Israeli sniper that was 200 ft away and people are kind of demanding answers as they should like like that's that's [ __ ] insane that that is that is that is genuinely [ __ ] insane I think the IDF came out and released a statement talking about protesters were throwing rocks famous line famous line protesters throwing rocks at IDF snipers like I just I don't I don't know man I it's it's just uh it's it's it's tough it's tough because it's on on one hand obviously we're covering American politics and we cover American politics in the context of the election during election year it's kind of what you do but then this this is such a huge thing that's going on in the background you're just watching everyone kind of be complacent in it and we hopefully I have demonstrated through my coverage that obviously I care about the general unjust loss of life but um just kind of for commentary sake a lot of people don't or how do I put this a lot of people care more when they see that an American is killed in the news because it just it hits closer to home right it's easier to relate to and it's easier to empathize with other than this sort of um I guess other that uh you feel like you can't relate to maybe this will spark more of a respon it's not going to spark hopefully it would spark more of a response from Biden and hopefully maybe something like this can be another push on the uh the it could be another push towards actually meaningfully implementing something like an arms embarco I mean one can only hope you know what I mean it's just it's genuinely tragic it's genuinely tragic what happened to her and it's genuinely tragic what is continuing to happen to hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who are facing starvation no access to Medicine no access to goddamn [ __ ] anything right just constantly under fear that they're going to be hit by a missile from above for doing nothing you know what I mean it's uh it's not a great it's not a great situation out there and that's that's kind of where we are this week I once again I'm G to remain hopeful i g to lock in and I'm gonna I am gonna I'm going to firmly believe that things will get better but I'm going to back that up with some good good old advocacy you know what I'm saying but uh with that I think that's Ending going to sort of bring us to the end of this uh very special unfortunate show right we should be back to regularly scheduled program next week uh we will still be live on Tuesday for all the Sunday supremacists that are watching this long and uh speaking of we got to give a special thanks this episode to um excuse me it's a long list it might take a little while just by myself a special thanks to K Crow Lord to the radiant Chris the postman
