[Applause] hello everybody we are here at Mountain America Stadium following Arizona State season opener where they overcame Wyoming 48 to7 a near shut out Victory I'm Justina that's publisher Hino and ho coming into this match up Arizona State by less than a touchdown but that was quickly put to rest um really just in every facet and we'll dissect that a little more but let's talk about this offense not really a lot put on the shoulders of a freshman Sam Le um and the rushing attack this is one of the better running back that Arizona C had in a very long time and they put that yeah absolutely let's start with with Sam L like you said I think it was an excellent game plan he only attempted 22 passes completed 14 of them uh did have uh two two touchdown passes 258 yards uh and uh the rushing attack uh really complemented uh the passing attack 241 yards so when he has such a balanced effort uh you're definitely going to go out there and beat a lot of teams and definitely a team in a caliber of Wyoming uh you know sure if this is a cowboy team that was only one and four on the road last year but uh but nonetheless I think there were definitely some question marks about about the CC offense especially about the passing game but I think could of the coach coaches uh they did put a lot on the shoulders of of the wrestling attack and I think uh that just opened up uh you know that much more uh for the passing game I also think that Sam Levan showed a lot of Mobility I don't think it's really a surprise but I think maybe there were some people out there that questioning uh you know how how mobile he really is when he had the long touchdown to Kon Brown he he was throwing off platform he had at least two maybe three rushes off for first down so s not only with his arm but with with with his legs uh was really making a lot of good plays I also said that even though ASC was sacked twice I thought that uh the the uh the tackles for hour was on the state really kept him clean really kept them upright so was absolutely you know dominating performance by the offense maybe a little hot and cold in the first half but I think second half they they definitely found that group they they had that touchdown to open uh the third quarter uh the game was pretty much over I think at halftime but I think they really put on the claps in the third quarter just an exit before perance you know by the ASU off yeah and we talked about in our preview that this is going to be a game that's one on the ground and ASU truly did that obviously you know everything was sort of picturesque and it was a really good performance just as a whole um but this was a game that was one on the ground especially for a Wyoming team who's very good up front uh so what did you sort of see holistically from ASU was rushing ahead well I I just think they're pretty much just over overpowered Wyoming I don't think it was really anything fancy I think for the most part the runs really between the tackles uh but obviously when you even guys like cam scattered wi to car's Rooks uh when when you get them in open space I mean they can do some damage obviously a guy like Kon brown one of the fastest running backs in that room and that really is tough competition over there uh you know we saw what he did in a 68 yard uh touchdown on a screen play from Leven the true freshman Jason Brown had had just a few carries uh but had had a first down and in half of them ultimate C the TR Colorado also had also had some nice runs so I just think that ASU defin definitely had the physical advantage over there they just wore down Wyoming more and more I don't know if it was an incredibly warm night in TP but maybe warm enough when when he coming from Wyoming so overall I I just think that uh that ASU really just imposed their will on Wyoming and and this is really no no small feat because Wyoming spring really is in in their front seven and again this is a team that that won nine games last year didn't play that well on the road as I mentioned but but nonetheless uh I wouldn't take lightly uh rushing 241 yards against a team like Wyoming just an an excellent performance and again I think the Billy took so much pressure off off the Young quarterback shoulders and that's why he looked really really really comfortable out there and now on defense too I mean Wyoming didn't score till that very last Drive of the game about 2 seconds left I believe it was uh 48 to Z up until that point and opening drive second play of the game zyrus fasu pick six shortly after that ke on Elliot with another interception three total turnovers two defensive touchdowns which is more than they've had all the last season so I mean people have been clamoring about this as defense but how did you sort of see them you know set that bar and sort of exceed that in this game yeah I mean you know as defense I think in 2023 uh did play pretty well in the first half maybe first eight eight games of the season but even uh during that stretch I really felt that the takeaways was was a sore subject and Kenny Dillingham and Brian Ward seemed that they were as asked about it every week well I don't think anybody's going to be asking them uh tonight or or or in the week to follow and maybe this is really going to be a running Trend I mean we talked about this ASU defense especially in in their front six being so much better uh than last year in terms of depth in terms of overall Talent so uh really uh no surprise that uh not only do they have two two defensive touchdowns but like a like you said linebackers besid there fiaa gets gets a pick six in defensive end Justin Woodley you know picks up picks up a fumble and uh and runs that for a touchdown just really just an an absolute Domination by the defense and the the play uh you know the the game plan I think for the AC defense is really simple I'm sure you could say easier said than done but if you stop the run uh you know for Wyoming and force him into obvious passing Downs uh that that's what Cowboy offense really really really does run into trouble and I think that because ASU uh was able to to stop the run so so many times early in the game uh that uh definitely uh definitely did hurt Wyoming quite a bit uh and you know we talked about the quarterbacks maybe being the k h of this defense but let's face it they were not tested at all uh at all tonight so um I think you know it's one thing to see this defense uh really playing so well you know in full Camp you know you and I were reporting about many more sessions where the defense was playing better better than the ASC offense uh and tonight I think that just really was a continuation for we saw full Camp a special special group of players uh really played uh with a lot of passion from the opening whist into the last one and uh I think that even though this is one of the weakest opponents that ASU is going to is going to face all year long uh when you have shut out victories uh or near shut out Victor just saying to that is something you cannot take for granted at all so this as defense really played out of out of their minds don't expect me to see this type of performance uh each and every week especially when he he go to big big big 12 uh conference play but overall I think this is a great boost of confidence um um you know for a unit which again we sang the Praises all throughout fall camp and now and now under the lights in a game that matters they definitely came and delivered big time and H we've talked about sort of how important this doc plate is moving the Big 12 again as you said no better way to start it off than a 48 to 7 Victory um but now transitioning to next week Mississippi State the team that in its own rate Del slou had a great week one um what are you sort of expecting to see out of that matchup yeah I mean I I think uh you know you know Mississippi state is is is obviously going to know that they really have to impose their own will running the ball against ASU otherwise I think it's going to be a long long a long night for them as well you know Mississippi State uh were very dominating their win over Eastern Kentucky of you know 56 to7 so it's not like the buls are coming here into DP with any lack of confidence or or or anything like that I mean sure it's a team that's uh definitely predicted to uh finish in the lower Echelon of the SEC but but I think theu players know that they need to really forget about this Domina Victory against Wyoming as as as quickly as possible figure that their quarterbacks again they were were barely tested tonight are going to be tested much much more uh you know next week you know when I asked the coaches uh if you're going to keep the Playbook uh kind of uh barely cracked open uh for Wyoming I I really didn't get really get a straight answer but I'm assuming there's going to be a lot a lot in the bag of tricks of marus Soro on offense Brian Mor that defense and that back of Tricks is really really going to have to come to light against Mississippi State by far in the toughest non-conference game for ASU uh sure I mean there are things to fix I'm sure on offense and a defense and I sure to say no special teams maybe uh somewhat of the uh of the wet blanket uh tonight if you will miss missing two field goals so there's definitely some stuff stuff to fix in every facet of the ASU team but I'm a big believer that it's always much easier to fix shortcomings after a win especially such a dominating win when like tonight so I think when ASO goes back to the drawboard they're going to know exactly uh you know what needs to be remedied they're going to know uh what kind of caliber of opponent awaits them but uh I think that when you look at a win that is the high highest um uh total margin of victory since a 2013 55 to nothing win over Sacramento State you can realize that these season opening one-sided victories are not common place in 10p at all we've seen a lot of ASU teams may even better than this one in 20124 uh struggle one Reas or another in week one so I think uh this is something that you should not you should not take for granted there's a lot of confidence uh right now in the locker room and that's exactly what you need when you're coming off with three win season when you are predicted to finish 16 and last in the Big 12 sure it's a long season you got to be very careful about week one over reactions but I think if you're an ASU fan you should be very encourag about about what what you saw tonight from the offense from the defense yeah we talked about the fact that decisive B wonderers confidence and if you're heav company you gotta be happy going into week two but for
