The PlastikObs+ project is about developing AI methods in conjunction with special sensor technology in order to enable efficient monitoring strategies to protect marine ecosystems. In reality, however, it is very difficult for us to obtain data in maritime ecosystems and that is why we are particularly happy about the good cooperation with the festival organizer FKP Scorpio and the clean-up service provider Procertus, that we were able to find the ideal playground here to develop our Not only to train models, but also to validate them. My name is Jonas Süflow. I have been looking after Hurricanes in the area of area cleaning for 10 years and we became aware of the PlastikObs project in front of the DFKI last year and thought that it could also be interesting in the area of festival cleaning. We use various methods during the measurement campaign . We start by marking plots of two by two meters on the ground with chalk spray. We then use drones and aircraft equipped with cameras to take photos. Then the garbage is collected, the weight and volume is determined, and the photos are evaluated using Kl. We can then use this data e.g. B. estimate the weight and volume of garbage patches in the sea. The next step in the project is to first organize, analyze and evaluate the data obtained here. We then want to use this data to train the aircraft in order to further improve our system in order to ultimately meet the project goal, namely the detection of plastic waste from the aircraft. We at Everwave not only support the project in public relations, but we also carry out similar measurement campaigns like this in our projects worldwide. That means we take e.g. B. Image data from real waste samples in water bodies in Cambodia and Thailand . The waste is then collected and sorted in order to then compare the real data with the results of the analysis. And this should also help to prepare the students as best as possible for their use in reality. We will then make our developed Kl models available to the public so that various interested parties and actors worldwide have the opportunity to pursue environmental protection efficiently and sustainably in their region . This is an essential part of the PlastikObs+ project.
