hi guys and welcome back to my ofv I'm Katie Rosie and today we are doing a very exciting video on interesting facts about Labor Day so maybe you know some of these maybe you don't but stick around and we'll find out so Labor Day as we know is a special day to celebrate all those who work so like teachers doctors and just everyone who works so basically it's like a big thank you so the very first time Labor Day was ever celebrated was September 5th 1882 2 and it became a national holiday in 1894 so the reason behind all of this was a long time ago workers at the time were experiencing unsafe working conditions and very low wages so they came together and they wanted to try to get Fair wages and better working conditions and so here we are today believe it or not but Labor Day actually started because of a nationwide strike on the railroad industry so in September of 1882 the unions in New York City got together to celebrate all of these unions and they had a parade and 20,000 people were there and they actually took off a day of pay just in order to celebrate um bringing these these unions together so Grover Cleveland is actually the president who made Labor Day into a holiday and the reason for this is because a lot of people were upset that the Railroad Strike ended in a lot of fatalities and violence so he wanted wanted to make this a national holiday so he created this federal holiday in order to celebrate Labor so the way we celebrate Labor Day over the years has definitely changed quite a bit and nowadays you'll just see people get the day off which is great and then they will picnic party go to the beach drink have hot dogs so it's it's definitely changed quite a bit so a fun fact that you might not know is Canada actually also celebrates Labor Day on the same day that we do which I thought was interesting so one fact that I'm sure we all have heard of is that you shouldn't wear white after a Labor Day which I never actually knew why but apparently back in the day it indicated that you were still in summer mode from your summer Cottage so I don't know but I mean I think most people today don't really follow that rule and I don't so so Labor Day is also the unofficial end of hot dog season and it's estimated that Americans will eat about 7 billion hot dogs over Labor Day weekend which I thought was so interesting and it's also The Unofficial end of summer so interesting so that's all I have for today I hope that you learned something new today and thank you so much for watching and I also hope that you have a really fun and safe Labor Day weekend so I'll catch you on the next one bye
