Dan Evans set a new U.S. Open record for the  longest match in history, enduring a grueling   5-hour, 35-minute battle against Karen Khachanov.  The marathon match, which took place on Tuesday,   was the longest since tiebreakers were  introduced in 1970. Evans, visibly exhausted,   had to check the scoreboard during the fourth set  just to confirm how far into the match they were.  Please Like, SUBSCRIBE, Share  and Comment to support us.  Evans found himself trailing 4-0 in the  fifth set but made an extraordinary comeback,   winning the final six games. The decisive  point came after a 22-shot rally,   with Evans on the defensive before  delivering a powerful shot to the   corner that Khachanov couldn’t return. This  remarkable effort allowed Evans to triumph   over the No. 23 seed Khachanov, beating  him 6-7 (6), 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-4. The previous record for the longest  match at the U.S. Open was set in 1992,   when Stefan Edberg defeated Michael Chang in  5 hours and 26 minutes. Evans’ victory not   only broke this record but also highlighted his  resilience, as he struggled through the match,   grabbing at his legs and resting his  hands on his knees during the final set. Reflecting on the match, the 34-year-old Evans,  who had never played for such an extended period   in one day, expressed his disbelief at the  endurance required. Despite his physical pain,   Evans managed to outlast Khachanov,  a semifinalist at the 2022 U.S. Open,   and improved his head-to-head  record against the Russian to 5-0. Evans, who had been struggling throughout  2024 with injuries and poor form, hopes   this victory will help restore his confidence as  he advances to the second round to face Mariano   Navone of Argentina. Despite his success, Evans  admitted he’s not eager to endure another match   like this anytime soon, saying, "Yeah, I don’t  really want to do that again, that’s for sure."
