Gophers Football 2024 recruiting class ranked in top-15 nationally

Welcome back to Sports Extra. Take a look at this Coach Fleck in the Gophers on a tear this summer on the recruiting trail there. 2024 recruiting class currently top 15 in the nation according to 24/7 sports. Over 20 commits now, including all but two of the top ten players right here in the state of Minnesota, the class is on pace. For the best in program history according to 24/7 sports. And we are lucky to be joined by a couple of those local standouts that make up this special 2024 recruiting class, joined by prior Lakes G Day of A Siri Chanhassen's Sam Macy as well as Eden Prairie's A Most Sane. Fellas, thanks so much for joining us. Yeah, yeah. Sam, I want to start with you. I grew up here, Chanhassen kid. When you got that Minnesota offer, what was going through your mind? Honestly, it was surreal. So I went to camp and then they pulled me aside. Afterwards, they got pulled in Pj's office and had about a 45 minute conversation. And I honestly, I committed right in the spot. Walk me through that conversation. What's it like with PJ Fleck as well as your parents? Honestly, I kind of blacked out a little bit talking to him. I was a little nervous. But yeah, again, just unreal experience. Today, Mo, I know you guys had plenty of options throughout the Midwest. What made you want to stay home and play for the Gophers? Honestly, it's a it's a blessing to be able to stay home close to family, go to college here, like have all your local friends and family watch you play. You know, being able to go home at any time is like really underrated for you, Mo. Well, like he said, close to home. And you know, as a kid growing up and seeing. Gopher, Gopher hoodies. Gopher shirts. You know it's just it's just a dream. School is where you want to be. How much pride you take growing up here in the Twin Cities and staying home to play for the Gopher Sam. Yeah, a ton, a ton. So traditionally before PJ got here a lot of guys didn't want to stay home. So and I feel like we're starting to set a precedent that this is where Minnesota guys are is where Minnesota guys want to be. So and obviously coach has had huge influence on that huge influence on me and on these guys that. This is, this is the place to be. What was the best part of your official visit? Jude. We'll start with you. The best part probably was PJ flick speech the second day. You know, we talked about like NIL deals, like some of the things that coaches are like afraid to talk about on official visits because it might steer away up, you know recruits. But he like, he dove into that. He talked about, you know how he doesn't believe in NIL and recruiting, you know. It shouldn't be a factor. And you know, like if you're great at what you do, you'll get paid. That's how it is. I mean, other than the dinners, expensive dinners, I'll say, you know, just being around all the commits, you know, my future teammates, How excited are you for your senior seasons, Sam, we'll start with you stag. I mean, I'm ready to go. So I play class below these guys, so I got to go through them to get the state championship, so. I mean, that's the goal, obviously always to win a championship. That's mentality. I mean, last year we were in the semifinals game away from the state championship. So it's all it's all my team's been thinking about, just getting right back because we have a lot of, we have a lot of good talent right now. So we really believe, we really believe they're going to go to the state championship today. I'm super excited. You know, we have Eden Prairie Intersection, so we have to go through them to get to State, you know, hopefully beating them for the first time, that'd be pretty cool. No hoping in my team to state championship. I love it. I love it the the friendly banter between these two future teammates already starting for the senior year of high school. Fellas, congratulations. Thanks so much for taking the time. Best of luck this senior year to both of you. You Sam, when they're going headtohead who you rooting for. Don't ask me that. I'm dealing with that. I'm not getting the way out of these two little. Amen. Amen. Fellas. Thanks so much. Congratulations. Yeah, appreciate it. Thank you.
