Time now for executive decision
where we ask our resident GM Jim
duquette his thoughts on a handful of topics. So sticking
with minaya here. How do you see his contract playing out
this offseason? You know, I think with the way he's been
pitching here lately, you have to look at this as he's
going to opt out at the end of the year. Now, you
know, you want him to pitch as
well as he has because that's going
to I think helped the Mets get to the postseason. He's been that dominant and to your
point what he said about sale what Yelps
talked about during a game about Chris a I mean that's that
is real. Real that arm slide is real the
stuff has been that good in you know, he's getting the
results. So, you know, I think in the end you wouldn't mind him opting out if he pitches
continues to pitch the way he is and he gets the Mets to the
postseason Jim the Mets top prospect jet
Williams is just starting to swing a bat after missing most
of the year because of wrist surgery. Would you advise him to
play somewhere this winter the Arizona fall league or something like that? And how
does that like, how does that conversation
start? What what happens in those kinds of The
talks well, so the short answer is yes, he
needs to play this this winter. I think that's the
good news is when you miss time like this, there are
opportunities to play elsewhere in the fall leaves a perfect
body. It'd be hard to play in Winter ball because they're
trying to wind down there are no teams going to take guy who
hasn't played that much unless he was playing at the
major league level. So Arizona fall league is probably where
he's destined. I think the conversations pretty easy.
In fact, I'd be surprised if jet didn't come to the team saying
listen. I want to play in the Arizona fall league and then I think on top of that what you
end up doing and because it's a controlled
environment you get them certain number of at-bats, then
he gave me a little bit of time home and then bring them back
down to Florida down to the complex. The complex
is open almost year-round any way he can get
some at-bats and get himself ready for next year. All right, Starling Marte played
a rehab game today in Port st. Lucie got a single and
a stolen base in the first thing. So if he makes it back where does he fit on this Mets
team considering they have a half a dozen players literally that can play Outfield. Yeah.
It's getting crowded. You know, I mean, I think that's the hard
part is. Yeah, but yeah. You'll take good
players, right? He's we know he's a good player when
he's healthy and the hard part is we haven't seen him in a
while. There's going to be a little bit of time for him to
kind of get back and get accustomed
to Major League pitching again. So with that, you know, I don't
think the Met should be taking him and throwing them right into
the starting lineup every single day. I think
he's am into it. He's gonna have to prove his at-bats
if he proves his at-bats, you know, he's a he can he's shown
he can be a force he gives you that power and speed combination
all that. So, you know, I think that it might cut into Taylor's at-bats in the
beginning and you know, we'll see what
ends up happening there, but it might I think it'll end up being
a good problem with the thought that he can stay
healthy because if he's healthy we know he's a good player.
