unbelievable pair of opening games we have between the AFC game on Thursday night and then this one in Brazil on Friday do we have time to play Jeff Duron here sure here was Jeff Duron yesterday talking about why he thinks this game is the most important one of the whole weekend this team has to get their chemistry back they have been working all offseason on that Nick serani knows he has to get more out of Jaylen Herz in terms of locker alom leadership and Serana himself knows he needs to get more leadership out of himself within this locker room this is the game where you are setting momentum in place you are changing the dynamic and the narrative about the rest of the season to me this is the most important game of the NFL season for week one and so many different ways for Philly I think we all were sort of nodding along as she was saying that and it was yesterday here live with us on get up that he did so Jeff it's a complicated question but as a former player and Coach yeah that team didn't fall apart last year because of x's and o's right it fell apart cuz something was wrong well the X's and O's were bad was bad but there was just internal stuff you could just see it right like there there were things that even those of us who didn't play or coach the game can just see that team just has has lost its ability to sort of all pull on the Rope what if anything can they show you on Friday night in the first game that will tell you okay whatever it was they figured it out the way they finish plays that's offense and defense so what that means is you know how many hats are getting around the ball on defense right when you see a guy tackle is it is it one guy tackling are there is everybody coming together to make the tackle offensively are they throwing that final block right is somebody doing the extra to get out and spring a block you know cut one for baru whatever you're going to do those are the things that you see that sees a team that's the quote chemistry everybody's talking about is how do they play for each other and again I I'm one of those who don't believe coaches create culture I I think they cast a vision I think the locker room is where culture has developed so I think it's a big moment for Jaylen Herz and the rest of this uh this this Eagles football team to take control of who they are as a team that's very interesting to me Hawk as a former player the the reality is there are questions about the coach Nick serani and there are questions about the Young quarterback Jaylen Herz if this thing goes badly it's the coach who's going to go Herz is getting paid all the money and he's 26 years old so he's not going anywhere but but is it on Herz more than it's on serani in your mind Hawk to be the leader of this to get this thing figured out and to get it going in the right direction I think it's on serani for sure um but to your point like what you want out of your franchise quarterback is someone who takes that responsibility on themselves to figure it out regardless of who is the coach and leading the vision for the team to Jeff's Point what I'm looking for to say that the Eagles have turned the corner it's not anything on the field I want to see the sideline I want want to see a sideline that after you have success is Devonte Smith AJ Brown Jaylen Herz saquan Barkley uh Jan Dawson are these guys looking as if this is just a first step in a 21 game plan to take McCarthy's uh approach to it that it doesn't matter who gets the ball it doesn't matter there's a lot of chefs in that kitchen we know they have the talent and the problem last year when we started to really see this pocet head was on the sideline it was with the coaches it was between the players that was the first indic cered to us because they were winning football games so I want to see that this game that regardless of who gets the shine if they walk out of there with a win that everybody feels like hey this is a complete First Step um I agree and disagree there was a lot to that was kind of said there um I understand the arguments and I don't necessarily like wholeheartedly disagree with them but to me that was not the first sign when you were watching those Eagles games when the Eagles were winning there was a sense they easily could have lost the game right whether it was against the Patriots whether it was against the Cowboys the commanders you can go through all the games like you were watching those games and you were like they could have lost that game if the bills didn't have 754 Flags against them the bills would have won that game right Dak Prescott doesn't step out of bounds Cowboys win that game right like you you could see that if if Mt Jones was just 2% better quarterback Patriots win that game so there was no strong sense I yeah so you definitely saw the unraveling on the sidelines AJ brown but you saw that the season before in 22 AJ Brown carrying on that he wasn't getting the ball enough when the Eagles were literally winning the NFC Championship Game and going to the Super Bowl so that's just like you know AJ Brown is just kind of more of a stereotypical Diva type wild wide receiver so I I understand what he's saying but that's not going to be the indicator I mean it's always a good indicator when your team's enjoying and having fun but we saw the Chiefs we saw Travis Chelsea slamming his helmet slamming into Andy Reed Patrick Mahomes screaming rasid rice yelling so it's not always linear so that's not what I'm looking for personally I'm going to watch this game I'm going to watch the Eagles play versus the Packers and it's going to be and I actually love this saying uh that actually I think uh shanon sharp just said recently I think it was shadon sharp you know don't accept anything in a win that you want except in a loss and to me that's actually a perfect examp a perfect representation summary of the Philadelphia Eagles they got away with a lot of bad stuff their offense did not look good it just did not look good but yet yet they were still able to win they were able to come away with the win and you know you watch those games you could just feel okay yeah Eagles won but like I don't know didn't feel great so to me whether the Eagles win or lose it's not even the biggest deal sure of course you want the Eagles to win to to to show that they got their chemistry back and that they're a better team but it's more like do they look complete do they look competent do they look like they actually have a game plan and an execution because there didn't there didn't feel that there was any type of game plan or execution last year it was just kind of like what's about to happen no idea there was no confidence do the Eagles play this game that gives you confidence win or lose does it feel like Jaylen Herz has his legs under for under him does the offense does the weapons does saquin Barkley doson AJ Devonte got do they look all integrated does the defense look better does the defense actually look competent those are the things that matter it doesn't have to be a win it's just does it look like they are competent do they look like a better team than they were last year winning week one is is a tough thing to do it just is it's week one there's going to be some R there's going to be some issues the the Eagles did not play their starters so it's not going to be like this perfect game not to mention they're playing in Brazil very unique weird bizarre situation a lot of these athletes are very fine-tuned so any type of variance affects you heck they blamed Patrick Mahomes for losing against the Raiders because it was Christmas that was the literal excuse he was with this kids opening up presents it's like okay so playing in Brazil in a crimer ridden town where they're like don't go anywhere don't you could only wear two different colors if you wear this color it's dangerous like there's just a lot to happen another NFL player was recently you know put into the hospital so there's just you know violent it's it's a real thing so I'm just not going to put all the eggs in the basket of week one if they win that's great that shows that they got their group back and if they lose no they're done told you the media is going to do that the media will jump on that they'll just add those games oh they've lost seven of the last eight or you know whatever the number is now they'll they'll jump on that but to me it's not about that it's how do you look did you play a complete game that what matters to me more than anything and that is what I'm going to look for especially more than anything more than anything does the offense have an identity do you feel that Kell Moore and the Eagles are actually going with a legitimate offensive game plan and not just I'll pick that play now I guess we'll throw uh you want to hand the ball off sure because that's what the Eagles looked like last season so that's what I'm
