Elle Macpherson Refused Chemotherapy After Breast Cancer Diagnosis | This Morning

about element Fon she's had some great news she's she's revealed that she's in remission from breast cancer but she's then gone on to to say that she refused to undergo chemotherapy despite the advice of 32 doctors wowers I mean that's a bold and brave decision isn't it it's a very brave decision or some might say silly but she did have a lumpectomy so she has had treatment loads of women have lumpectomies for for cancer so I think she's been I'm I'm cross about this and that she's coming out she's got a book she's making a whole load of money out of saying look I've beaten cancer like the alternative complimentary therapies that that's really really dangerous because anybody the best way to survive cancer is to go to the doctor to go to the hospital to have all the treatments they're they're not easy they're really difficult invasive treatments quite often but not all of them but and then to go out and write a book saying that she done it the natural way it's just not entirely true let's talk to Dr nigat because I know that there was real concern within the medical profession about her coming out and sort of suggesting that she's done it without any sort of intervention from chemotherapy yes there is because this is something that comes through my doors as a GP as well if we look at breast cancer there is a a set clear guidelines and treatment plans and alternative and complimentary therapy unfortunately a lot of patients go down that route and it's not advised because there's no evidence based data to a that it works but also actually can make your diagnosis worse and lead to catastrophic RC consequences so the data shows that if you have had a lumpectomy or early breast cancer that's been picked up and you decide not to follow the oncologist advice you're are 2.5 times more likely to have advanced disease or death and if you have severe breast cancer disease and then you decide not to go through the treatment plan from your oncologist and breast cancer team then you're six times more likely to die what happens is is that unfortunately marginalized groups ethnic minority communities who unfortunately aren't always included in the data or those that have mistrust on modern medicine or mainstream medicine do fall into this rout and they're the ones most adversely affected where we find Advanced disease and therefore have the most serious consequences where unfortunately young people can die very early on from a completely preventable and treatable cancer she said Camila um to one of the Australian magazines was saying no to standard Medical Solutions was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life but saying no to my own in a sense would have been even harder m I mean I'm the daughter of a doctor and a pharmacist so I'm all for medical intervention um I think the problem here is she reserves the right to have herself treated in any way she wants to and there are some cancer patients that do reject chemotherapy um whether it's sensible for her to be appearing to promote that approach not least in light of what Dr and others are saying I think this is dangerous if it's then because because also by the way when she had this kind of 360 holistic treatment it sounds as if she paid a lot of money for it that there were several inadvertedly discredited and is there a bit of Hocus Pocus involved here it's probably a bit harsh because she's her own woman yeah but but what he did was terrible when you think of like the how MMR vaccinations dropped and that cost so many lives yeah it's interesting even the name of her Memoir is life lessons and learning to trust yourself it's could be very dangerous indeed I think oh hello thank you for visiting our this morning YouTube channel we upload tons of new content every single day so hit the Subscribe button like all the videos and don't miss out we'll see you in the morning
