I should have known when I was eight months pregnant and he kicked me to the floor. Did you ever think that you would be a professional football player growing up now? Because I didn't start playing football until I was 14. And so until I was in high school. And so I never really thought like, I would be playing football at all. My best friend from middle school and high school, Harald Patel. He brought me out to the football fields in the summer before he was trying out for the high school football team at the end. He was like, hey, you should kick a field goal and I was like, all right, I'll try, like I played soccer and I made a 30 I made a 35 a 40 a 45 yarder. All my first tries. He was like, hey, you should try it for the football team, but came back right after that and said, mom, I know I'm not allowed to play football, but there's this position called a kicker that you're not allowed to be hit. And so I signed the form allowing him to play football. Do you remember your first high school game we're playing against Cummings High School. And I look around and there's like 2000 people around in the high school football stadium. And so look, that was the first thing I noticed was like, wow, like football is kind of a big deal in, in America. That realization grew as Cardi continued to play football at Stanford fast forward. A few months later, Cardi was waiting for that coveted call from any team in the NFL. When you got that call from Sean mcveigh, how are you feeling? I saw and I was like, thank God, like please be them. I picked up and you know, it was less Snee and Sean mcveigh, we were kind of expecting to have me go a little bit higher in the draft, hopefully like fourth or fifth round. So, you know, the draft, it can be amazing like you can go way higher than expected. But for every person that goes higher, there's someone who goes lower than expected. So it was definitely a relief getting the call moment. I had put up a sign on the front door saying if he got a call, everyone needed to be quiet, but apparently I didn't read the sign, I couldn't contain myself uh up and I was just thrilled and he really, really wanted to be a ram. You're just one of three kickers selected in the 2024 NFL draft. What does that mean to you it's really cool because there's only 32 guys in the world who have a job at any given time and to be drafted as a kicker just by itself is just an honor because it means that you're one of the two or three best in the country to represent Western elements at the highest level. How special is that for you? I carry the, the dub A on my back. I it means a lot to me. Uh They, they provided me with all the opportunities ever.
