South Carolina women's basketball player Ashlin Watkins was arrested following an alleged assault on campus on August 31st according to arrest warrant filed by the University of South Carolina's Police Department according to the warrant Watkins assaulted the victim by quote forcefully grabbing her face pulling her by her arms and pushing her unquote at 650 link a university Affiliated student apartment building Watkins also allegedly picked up the victim against her will and carried her away according to the warrants and grabbed her head forced her to walk down the hall and prevented her from leaving the victim eventually got away from Watkins and pulled the fire alarm according to warrants then police and fire Personnel showed up and treated the victim for non-life-threatening injuries on Saturday jail records showed that the women's basketball star was detained and charged with first-degree assault and kidnapping she was granted a 30,000 Bond at a hearing later that afternoon during the hearing prosecutors said that Watkins and the victim who was referred to as a minor knew each other Watkins attorney state representative Todd Rutherford told WLTX that once everyone has a grasp on what happened it will end up a quote misunderstanding unquote online court records say that an initial court appearance for Watkins has been set for October 25th 10 days before South Carolina a season opener versus Michigan in Las Vegas on November 4th it's likely Watkins arrest will trigger an automatic suspension but it's unclear how long that suspension will last or how it could impact the Gamecocks upcoming White House visit to celebrate their 20124 National Championship that visit is scheduled for Tuesday September 10th a team spokesperson told the state Saturday that they're aware of the situation and gathering information USC officials declined to comment further on the incident I'm Alexa herado a reporter for The State newspaper follow along for updates at the state.com
