26. I'm meteorologist John Dawson. This is our tropical update. We're here every day of Hurricane season, bringing you the latest of what's happening in the Atlantic basin. And right now, things again remain quiet. We've got the Caribbean with a little bit of tropical wave activity down towards the southwest. We've got a little bit of unsettled weather in the northwest, sort of near the Bay of Campeche on on the well, not really in the Bay of Campeche, but over on the Cuba side of things, but near the Yucatan. And overall that's going to sort of just remain unsettled, but nothing to get really more organized, a little bit of a tropical wave out in the Atlantic. But again, overall, the message from the National Hurricane Center is no tropical cyclone formation. Development is expected over the next seven days. So quiet for now. We like the way that that sounds. Now there are a few more things to talk about a little bit for sure. As we move through the next several days, we'll start with the Saharan dust. Still a bit of that happening, which is a little bit more than we would usually see for this time of the year. So that's helping to kind of remain to keep things quiet. And as we kind of roll through our futurecast, I do just kind of want to point out a little something that's happening in the Gulf of Mexico. This is going to be later on in the week. Now, again, stressing especially for us here in the Houston area. We're not overly concerned. We're not getting too excited, but we are watching just for again, just a little less stable overall. Once we get into the Wednesday time frame, this could probably just end up being some tropical moisture. There might be enough organization to it that it could develop into something, but for now, we're just kind of watching this area, keeping an eye. Anytime we get something in the Gulf in August, we definitely want to sort of keep an eye on things. And you could see just sort of rain overall is going to be the theme that we're looking at for us here in the Texas area. And we're going to talk a little bit more about that just briefly real quick. As far as this rain is concerned, between now and Friday, you can see we're certainly looking for quite a bit of rain, most of that all out in the Gulf of Mexico. Right Which is okay. Again, there's no organization to it. We could use a little bit more rain here in Southeast Texas, but that's kind of that pattern that we're looking at for the moment. So we've been looking at this map quite a bit here for August. And basically this is the formation zone of named storms. We would typically see it in this part of the Atlantic. That's when those waves start rolling off of the coast of Africa. And then they get their tropical cyclone development once they kind of get down the line a little bit and then possibilities of forming into hurricanes in August, it's a little bit more likely that you would see that happening up along the East Coast. And there is a little bit of also just a little blob you'll notice there in the Gulf of Mexico, where something could develop this time of the year. So we're again kind of keeping an eye on things. But as we switch into September, I think we all know we've talked about it quite a bit. That is the peak of hurricane season for the entire Atlantic basin. And you can see that this area of most likely has gotten much larger and is again covering quite a bit more space overall and getting closer in to the East Coast. So that's something that we continue to watch is sort of that same scenario. We get these waves that come off the African coast, we track them, we watch them. And then somewhere in this wide area, we could see that development and again, same thing in the Gulf of Mexico. It's not listed as the most likely area, but we could definitely see some sort of development taking place quick review. We've gone through about five storms, so far one, two, three, four, five through Ernest. So Francine is going to be next on the list. And we've talked about it. Nothing. Just obviously looking like that's going to be the next name that we are concerned with. We're here every day of hurricane season. As noted, even on the weekends. A good Saturday to you. I hope to see you again here right after about 4:00 central time tomorrow
