the pirates for Memphis they got a pretty sizable Challenge on their hands I'd say sometimes though when you have a real mismatch you get the favor playing a little bit lazy or the underdog having the 40 he's at Midfield he's taken down at the 44 2 [Music] y BR down at the 45 a loss of one yard that makes it second and 10 they're changing the play and he stopped behind the line no gain that makes it third and 11 here's third and 11 ball on the 45 [Applause] hit as he threw and he completes it and they make the stop right around the 38 yd line a s yth down so they're going to go for it [Applause] here he's looking to pass slings it out there incomplete so let's see what the offense can do as they come out onto the field halfback gets the call and he answers big time he gets out to about the 44 yd line nothing tentative on that run at all he looks very determined and got the first down they're calling an audible they'll bring him down at the 47 yd line on that'll bring up second and 12 second down at 12 ball on the 47 yd [Applause] line and they'll bring him down behind the line you know as as a running back you've got to get up Field North and South that time you just seemed to wait and kind of delay his reaction and just got to be able to make a read get up field as quickly as possible in college football especially up in the NFL the more you're dancing around waiting for a big play the more time you're giving an athletic defense a chance to come and make a play in the back field against you and that's what happened there back to pass wants it all going deep and he hauls it in at the end of that long [Applause] ball the white out here truly knows what he has to do to contribute to make his team successful and the secondary didn't quite seem alert enough to defend that [Applause] pass Memphis is up by six he makes the pat so a short three play 45 yd drive and that's good for a touchdown the score now 7 nothing Baker as his kick team lined up and he is set to kick this one off he's to the 10 he got hit hardick off return 18 y they'll start at the 18 yd line and he just gets rid of it the defense got some pressure and forced a bad pass I think they've been a little bit more aggressive here with their pass rush and that time it paid off with an incompletion from their own 18 yd line it's second [Applause] [Music] down going long caught sideline and he stays in 37 y [Music] first and he's hit immediately I'll tell you something I'm loving this quarterback's confidence more and more as this game goes on he's really throwing the ball with some purpose Richardson up the gut takes it up the middle for a nice run the tailb picks up a solid seven yards on the counter play appears that he's changing things up here before the snap just throws this one [Applause] [Music] away they need about three yards to get the first down here on third down he tackles at the 31 they lose three yards there really they just had nowhere to go after the catch that'll make it fourth and six it's Fourth Down looks like they're going to go for it on fourth [Applause] down back to pass deep pass to the end zone unable to convert on fourth down and the ball changes hands the quarterback is on his way back onto the field and he led a great Drive last time out they come out in a five wide [Applause] set he drops back and he's taken down around the 36 yd line green picks up around five yds with that catch brings up second and Memphis is up seven and it looks like they're going to change it up here and down he goes around the 44 yd line good job by the offensive line to pick up the linebacker on the blitz that gave the quarterback enough time to find his man for a nice game and he's tackled at about the 47 yd line defense looked like it jumped [Music] early looks like they got a little too anxious trying to jump the snap count from their own 49 yd line first down [Applause] tackled for a loss Los of Y on the that makes it second and [Applause] eight from their own 46 yd line it's second [Applause] down Spencer drops to throw makes the grab and he's got the first and he hits him hard at the Y Line makes the tack at the 45 yd line first down trying to confuse the defense here with the audible option they'll wrestle him down in the back [Applause] field [Music] defense they're giving away free yards and only making life easier for the guys on the other side of the ball it's first and 10 ball on the 32 yd line they go with the back and he's got room he gets to about the 24 yd line forain Y that makes it second and two Memphis up seven points we'll wait and see here if he really does change the play scrambling around that's a great tackle at the 24 no gain on the play that'll bring up third and two they'll change the play at the line of scrimmage option to the right and he's level at the 25 yd line so good surge by the defense they really disrupted the timing on that play and gave them no chance to get the first fourth down so it's fourth down and the offense is still on the field takes it left on the option and they get him in the back field for a loss so they turn it over on downs and that's a big boost for this defense and a close game like this one it's big plays like this that can be the deciding factor this drive will start at the 26 going deep he's got his receiver with nobody around him to the 10 he'll take it all way for the touchdown great effort by the wide receiver and not to take anything away from the quarterback but the wide receiver made this play it makes for an easy completion when you've got a guy who's that wide open will be tied with the extra point and he adds the extra point the kicker looks like he's ready to kick this one off a return he makes it out to maybe the 20 yd line 16 Y and so far it's been totally even in close games like this every possession is likely to [Applause] matter Quinn running the option makes it out to about the 29 that's good for a gain of n y that brings up second and one and he doesn't like what he sees he's going to change the play here looking to throw tries to fit it in there and it'll be intercepted inside the 30 the 10 he's all the way touchdown so a great play by the defender to give his team six points that was a very good play and that will certainly help build his team's momentum East Carolina with a six-point lead and he TS on the extra point mark looks ready to kick this one off return from the 5 yd line they'll bring him down at the 28 yd line 23 y get the ball here at the 28 Spencer options out and he is drilled at the 36 yd line gain of eight y that makes it second and two Spencer gets the ball tackles around the 32 yd line that is just a great play getting into the back field this guy is so quick that the ball carrier never had a chance third and six ball on the 32 yd line and this stadium is getting loud fires out quickly incomplete Hill was the intended receiver on the play that's going to bring up fourth down yeah they just couldn't connect on the pass there that was a very good stand by this defense Harris is the Deep man awaiting the return and down he goes the 37 yd line Y so now both teams come trotting back out onto the [Applause] field they go with the option tackled after a decent pickup on the that makes it second and two East Carolina is up by a touchdown Aon and at long doesn't get there that pass sailed over the receiver's head this guy can wing it that's for sure he just needs to improve on his accuracy it's third down and they're about two yds shy of the sticks [Applause] and they make the stop at the 45 well the defensive backs completely jumped the Run only the Run was never there it was just that misstep that allowed the [Applause] completion down the 20 yd line that'll move the chance for another ECU first [Music] down he's pushed Out of Bounds at about the 11 very solid gain through the air I'm impressed with the Poise of this quarterback and the ability of the receiver to keep his concentration and get his hands on the football he's changing things up he's knocked out of Bounds at about the 17 yd line Y on the that makes it third and third down again there three quarters remaining the pirates with a touchdown lead [Applause] he drops back he goes out of bounds around the 11 yd line Y that'll bring up fourth and one fourth down and the offense is still on the field East Carolina is up a score he's going to try and scramble and he can't get the pass pass off and he's [Applause] sacked the offense will start at the [Applause] 11 they'll bring him down around the 13 yd line gain two y that makes it second and eight five wide he may have changed things up here and they got to him before he can get back to the line a Los of two y on the that BRS up third and 10 they'll line up at the 11 third down got to be hard for the offense to even hear the play call and they get the safety you know I give a lot of credit to the defense on this play but this was a horrible Mistake by the quarterback and he just got stood up right [Applause] there they'll go to work at the 40 they give to the tailb tackle outside after a nice pickup a four y that makes it second [Applause] and receivers got it on the screen tackle made at the 48 y That's good enough for another ECU first down throws quick to the receiver and it falls incomplete number 15 the intended receiver on the play that makes it second and 10 from the 48 yd line Second down he's at the 40 he's taken down at the 35 that one go goes for good yardage and a first down yeah that's just a nice gain on second down a changing the play throws to the receiver and he's got it again BR him down the 26 yd line that brings up second and one they knock it down incomplete was the intended receiver on the play that'll make it third and one it's third down and this offense is about three feet away from that first down marker and he throws it away let's get out of the field for the official call complete breakdown in judgment and displ these are the types of mental errors that drive coaches crazy from the 21 yd line first down Flanigan looking to throw on first down calls it in as he's pushed out of bounds that makes it first andal the offense gets set as they attempt to put an end to these Red Zone [Applause] Blues got his receiver touchdown and did that play ever develop nicely well it's all about the receiver on this play he beat his man off the line and then ran a perfect route all he had to do after that is make the catch and converts the extra point a seven playay 57 yd drive and they come away with a touchdown well right now we're seeing the quarterback and his group of wide receivers on the same page you know you work so much throughout the week to try to hope that quarterback and receivers are are in sync and right now that's being put on display by this offense it gives this offensive coordinator a lot of confidence about calling that next play because of the way the quarterback's playing the game right now he's tackled at the 25 they'll start this drive at the 25 yd line drops back on first down gets it out quick and it's going the other way and down he goes to the 38 yd line that's the last thing they needed to happen was an interception they're trying to fight to get back into this game and to have that miscue now it's really up to their defense to try to help them out [Applause] first and 10 ball on the 38 yd [Applause] line nice run up the middle Richardson gets six yds on the play that'll make it second and four possibly changeing the play here prior to the snap he gets rid of this one great job by the defense at getting after that quarterback and right now I think they've got him with some Happy Feet he appears to be a bit rattled so it's third down now and they're going to need about four [Applause] he's looking to pass fires it quickly he's tackled at the 5yd line you can chalk that one up to the hundreds of passes the quarterback has thrown to this receiver in practice these guys know and trust each other and you could see it in the way he threw that pass and it looks like they're going to change it up here on the hand off he will score it shouldn't have surprised these guys to see the Run coming out but they just couldn't stop it and he hits the p8 a short three playay 32 yd drive and it results in a touchdown the score now 30-7 and it looks like they're ready for the kickoff return he'll return it from the six he makes it out maybe to the 26 yd line Y they'll start at the 26 yd [Applause] line Hollis gets the ball brought down after a nice run up the middle gain of six on the play that'll make it second and four looks like he might audible out of that play hand off up the middle he's to the 40 gains his way to the 46 yd line gain of 14 y first [Applause] down and he might change the play here before the snap and the safety with the interception he's at the 40 he's at the 30 to the 10 touchdown Pirates how about the play by the defender that was a great interception and an even better effort to bring the ball back for a touchdown East Carolina looking to build on this commanding lead here and he adds the extra point looks like they're ready for the kick return gathered in at the six he makes it out to maybe the 30 yd line 2 y the fence will take over at the 30 drops back to pass Hill makes the reception that's a gain of 12 on the play first [Applause] down they'll change the play at the line of scrimmage and he's tackled at the 4 three yd line a man down and he's in some pain right now that brings up [Applause] and from their own 43 ydd line Second down back to pass he's on the run and he's going to be sack you have to keep an eye on this guy especially during passing situations because does a great job of getting to the quarterback as we saw right [Applause] there so that sack will back them up a little now they're looking at a difficult third and [Applause] [Music] 13 and he's taken down around the 47 yd line that looks like a generous spot to me I thought he was a little bit short first and 10 ball on the 47 yd line he's hit and taken down that's a gain of five on the play that'll make it second and four trying to confuse the defense here with the audible Butler gets the call he's at the 30 he's at the 20 tackle at the six call it a gain of 36 y that makes it first and goal defense and their short yardage package that could be a check with me right there and he throws it away they're at the six it's second [Applause] down got the corner it's a bad play overall by the offense the quarterback's doing everything he can to be able to make the play work and try to execute the problem is the offensive line did not do a good job protecting him they're very fortunate that ball wasn't [Applause] intercepted he drops back he passes it puts it right in his hands touchdown and for Hill he makes it two TD catches the quarterback knew exactly where to put the pass and the receiver went out there and made the grab good communication there [Applause] [Applause] he makes the [Music] Pat the kicker looks like he's ready to kick this one off he really got a hold of that kick he's to the 10 he's to the 20 oh man he took him down hard they'll set up shot at the [Applause] 22 and they make the stop at about the 29 yd line that's a seven yd gain hey they picked up a nice gain of seven yds on that play great pass we'll wait and see here if he really does change the play looks to pass he throws tipped away I don't think the quarterback read The Zone properly the linebacker was in a great spot to make a play on the ball third down and they're going to need about three yards to pick up the first down brought down around the 32 yd line just a good showing on all three Downs by the defense that should fire him up they've got 10 guys up it looks like they're going to try to block this [Applause] one they'll bring him down the 37 yd line Y they'll take over at the 37 quick throw the senior makes the catch the 10 touchdown Memphis he's got three TD catches now yeah this guy's in his own he's catching every single ball thrown his way and the quarterback stays on the field as they try for the two-point conversion Spencer set to go to the air they don't get it a great defensive end in college football just pins his ears back and has again that extra instinct to know when to jump the snap count when to take a chance on third down and see seems like they almost saved their extra pass rush and extra incentive as far as their their energy when it really matters on a third down when they feel like they can beat that offensive tackle and get off the line of scrimmage a little bit quicker and that's something that I think we've seen him do throughout this game he puts a deep downfield Baker ready to kick he's to the 10 he's to the 20 Tacko at the 26 26 y things are on the verge of getting out of hand before we even hit the half these next few drives are going to go a long way in determining what kind of game this will end up [Applause] being takes it up the middle for a nice run the Pirates don't like the looks of things they're going to take their first time out and from their own 30 yd line it's second [Music] down he drops back he airs it out great concentration that'll push him over the 100 yd Mark in receiving well they continue to put the football in his hands and he continues to make plays for them this guy right now clearly is the go-to guy for this offense and we're still in the first half so there's a lot of time left for this kid to build on those statistics here's the give gets out to around the 25 running back picked up about eight on the draw that makes it second and two trying to change the play drops back to pass and he's hit immediately East Carolina will take a timeout that's their second of the half that move the CH for from the 16 yd line it's first down quick strike and he drops it the intended receiver on the play that makes it second and 10 second and 10 ball on the 16 yd line [Applause] lets it Fly and this one Falls incomplete fre hands there by the wide receiver unfortunately for him he couldn't get a foot down inbounds it's third down and 10 ball in the [Applause] 16 Flanigan drops back to pass and he's going to come up with a sack they get to the back and end that play before it even got started this young man didn't even have a chance to make something happen it's tough to find your receivers when the defense is in your face like that the sack makes this a fourth and very long [Applause] turn and they'll take over on Downs they'll get the ball here at the 28 yd line [Applause] tackle made at the 30 yd line the Tigers will use their first time out of the half that it second down seven yds to go ball on the 30 yd line get it that quickly he's taken down at the 40 yd line Memphis will have one timeout remaining we've got a first and 10 ball on their own [Applause] 40 drops back on first down even though they didn't sack him the pressure was still enough to force a bad pass if you can get in there and disrupt the pocket and the quarterback is going to have a tougher time getting the ball to his Playmakers from their own 40 yd line Second down he airs it out and this one's going to get intercepted they're going to have to make some changes in a hurry or else this game will be over by [Applause] [Applause] halftime first down 10 yds to go B on their own 29 gives it up the gut he's tackled at the 39 he caught some key blocks and was able to turn it into a 10yd gain that'll make it in throws it in a hurry and down he goes at about the 45 complete for six yds and that's good for a first down heads up play by the quarterback to find his receiver in traffic and get the ball into his hands one more play now before we hit halftime so they'll most likely throw one towards the end zone here he's going to go for the home run and he hauls it in deep downfield and that'll do it we head to the break still plenty of time left in this one the Pirates leaded by 17 [Music] East Carolina is set to kick this ball off and we're just about set to get the second half started he'll return it from the four yd line and he's tackled at the 29 yd line Aaron Andrews has a report now from the sideline we've seen both teams have pretty good success in the passing game and for ECU their defense received an earful from their coaches who told them they must get back to the bases and back up to you another one got to be some sense of urgency to this offense right now they don't have the luxury of wasting drives if they want to get back in the game first down looking to throw can't find anyone open they'll bring him down around the 43 yd line there's a flag on the field and I think I have a good feeling of what this might be you got to be careful to avoid these penalties are a great way to stall out a [Applause] drive it's first down and a lot [Music] [Applause] back to pass throwing left out of Bounds at the 42 that's good for a gain of 23 ydd first [Applause] down appears that he's changing things up here before the snap looking to throw slings it knocked out of bounds around the 49 yd line that makes it second and [Applause] two looks like he might audible out of that play back to pass throws it into coverage and it's intercepted and he's taken down at about the 33 yd line the defense really cranked up the heat there give those guys all the credit for forcing a desperation [Applause] pass first and 10 ball on the 33 and he's tackled at the 32 so it's complete but they didn't get much there and that's because the defense was just waiting on it and they attacked the quarterback should have found somebody else down field he might be playing a cat and mouse game here with the defense drops back to pass he fires left side incomplete Han was the intended receiver on the play Third Down third down and they need to get it to the 23 [Applause] he's looking to pass and he's going to be sacked for a loss boy Brad that was a big hit on a quarterback I'm going to be interested to see how he responds from this hit and whether or not he comes after his offensive lineman and challenges them to start playing a little bit better after the sack it's now fourth and long battle is back deep to return the punt touch and it goes into the end zone down for a Touchback and for Hill he's had a great game catching the ball well not only is he having a great game but he's also just seems to be having fun out there I think the entire offense for that matter the entire team seems to be responding to his infectious attitude but the thing that I love about this you can talk all the yards you want this guy's a Difference Maker three touchdowns all ready and I think that's the difference of what we've seen from him today offense comes back out looking to improve from their last effort and I don't think this defense will lay down lightly they're going to try to continue to Rattle this guy Hollis up the gut tackle right around the 30 this guy just made those 10 yards look easy that'll make it second and [Applause] inches scrambling around and they make the stop right around the 32 yd Line2 y first [Applause] down gives it to the back and he makes it out to about the 34 yd line a yard maybe two on the carry that makes it second and [Applause] eight they'll give it off here tackled after a decent run up the gut that's a gain of four on the play that'll bring up third and four this crowd is almost shaking the stadium and he tackles him hard at the 41 Y Line that's good for y that'll bring up and one Harris is the Deep man awaiting the return Ro down at the 28 and for Flanigan he's put up good numbers you know you can almost see his confidence Rising with every snap that he and this offense take he's done the job he's had to do and hasn't put them in a situ sitation where they'd be in danger of losing a game they shouldn't lose they'll take over at the 28 yd line here's a screen pass gets it to the back he's at Midfield inside the 30 to the 10 touchdown ECU he's thrown his third touchdown pass of the game the one thing this quarterback does a nice job of is taking what the defense gives him he's always looking for the open Target [Music] [Applause] [Applause] and he adds the extra point mark is lined up to kick this one off he's to the 20 and he's taken down at the 25 and for Spencer it's been a rough night well we knew coming into this game that the quarterback was going to be facing one of the top defenses in the country and this defense right now is getting the best of it has been a performance filled with flaws but when you're on the road you can't expect Perfection they'll start at the 25 yd line [Applause] he scrambled and they got him a great defensive end in college football just pins his ears back and has again that extra instinct to know when to jump the snap count when to take a chance on third down and seems like they almost saved their extra pass rush an extra incentive as far as their their energy when it really matters on a third down when they feel like they can beat that offensive tackle and get off the line of scrimmage a little bit quicker and that's something that I think we've seen him do throughout this game going deep lays it out there call it a gain of 48 yd that makes it first and 10 halfbacks got it on the quick throw inside the 10 and they push him out at the three yd line what a great play this is the timing that we talked about in the pregame that they must have in order to be successful with their passing [Applause] game from the 5 yd line it's second down gives it left side touchdown tigers and so they're able to finally get this one in the end zone on the ground you know what we always talk about the running backs but I got to give some credit to the offensive line there they made that play happen so the kicker going to stay on the sidelines these guys will try for a two-point conversion defense in their short yardage package and it looks like they might be bringing some pressure here and they'll run him again a five play 75 yard drive and they add eight points to their total I think the thing Brad that I'm seeing is the quarterback's taking advantage of some one-on-one opportunities on the outside for some big plays for this offense he sends this one deep and it goes into the end zone down for a [Applause] Touchback first down 10 to go ball in the 25 [Applause] brought down around the 22 yd line loss of three on the play that brings up second and 13 second and 13 coming up here ball on the 22 yd [Applause] Line Richardson we run it again nice run and he's brought down gain of seven y that'll bring up third and [Music] six Flanigan back to pass tackle made at the 34 yd linep on the tackle at the 34 yd line fourth down Thompson to punt they'll bring him down at the 40 returned for a gain of 12 y they'll set up shop at the 40 yd line quick strike and he drops it har is the intended receiver on the play that makes it second and 10 from their own 40 yd line Second [Applause] down Hollis gets the ball nice run to the left there that's a gain of five on the play that'll make it this place is Rocky trying to change the play he's scrambling he's wrapped up for the sack L of two on go to work at the 25 he drops back he's looking for his man this one is incomplete Richardson was the intended receiver on the play that makes it second and 10 so it's second and 10 ball on their own 25 he drops back looks for his running back back incomplete I like the idea here of trying to dump the ball over the running back to maybe catch the defense off guard but he just misfired it I don't think his footwork was very good there third down 10 yds to go ball on the 25 yd line nice run there normally you look for the pass in those kinds of situations but a very alert play stop that run short of the sticks [Applause] Harris back to return [Applause] it oh man did he take a hit you know what it might not have been a lot but they move the ball forward football's not a game won 100 yards at a time you take what you can get this drive will start at the 41 gains his way to the 49 yd line call it a gain of eight yds that makes it second and two that could be a check with me right [Applause] there and he hits him hard at the 49 that's a gain of two on the play it and it's going to be hard even to hear the snap count this place is [Applause] hopping pulls down the catch and he's got room here he's pushed Out of Bounds at about the 39 yd [Applause] line Spencer steps back to pass he goes out of bounds around the 37 yd line green picks up only about two yards with that grab possibly change in the play here prior to the snap steps up he lets it go you when you feel pressure like that the worst thing you want to do is just to throw the ball into coverage he got away with one right there he's very fortunate next time he should just throw it away out of bounds and once again they'll come to the line trying to convert on third down the crowd at a fever pitch right now athletic play when you're right at the point of attack you don't have a whole lot of time to react but he moved very quickly and he got his hands in the way of the pass third down now and they need to get it down to the 38 looking to throw quick throw and he's got his man again he's tackled at the 32 yd line he wants it all makes a catch in the end zone touchdown that's his fourth touchdown pass of the game well he's shown such great Poise back there in the pocket that's the main reason he's been able to find the end zone so many times he makes the pat a five playay 56 yd drive and they come away with seven points Pates East Carolina is lining up to kick this one off Harris Fields it at the nine tackles at the 31 KCK off returns 22 y they'll start this drive at the 31 yd [Applause] line and they make the stop at about the 37 yd line he ran a good route there and was able to pick up yards underneath the coverage it's okay to move the ball in small portions because it relaxes the offense and can open things up for the big play tackle for a loss no gain on the play third down the intensity of this place is increasing they're changing the play again he'll get the call up the middle for a nice game that's not going to move the sticks well this defense played some sound football out there and did a good job of not letting them get into any kind of rhythm looks like they've decided to go for it here and he's tackled around the 34 yd line a score here might effectively end this one and a quick throw and he tackles him hard at the 18 yd line 16 y that'll move the chance for another ECU first down Flanigan on the option the five and there's another one not the usual suspect to end up with the ball but it looked really fluid on that run terrific [Music] play East Carolina looking to add to this big lead here and he hits the Pat the ECU pirat and it looks like they're ready for the kickoff set return taken from the 10 he makes it out to maybe the 33 yd line 23 y the offense will take over at the 33 yd [Applause] line and down he goes around the 47 yd line gain of 14 yds that makes it first and [Applause] 10 here's the give tackle right around the 44 yd line on the play that brings up second and one and it looks like they're going to change it up here and he's taken down around the 18 yd line Bradley brings him down at the 18 yd line first down appears that he's changing things up here before the snap they'll bring him down at about the 19 yd line one y that bring up second and 11 he's changing things up and they push him out around the 17 yd line that's good for a gain of two y that'll make it third and N they'll spread the field here let's see what the defense does with a five wide out look he may have changed things up here going for it all to the end zone ined receiver on the play that'll bring up fourth and nine it's fourth down and they're going to try to go for [Applause] it throws it out there when the first down marker is that far away someone's got to step up and make a play on fourth down it just didn't happen for him here they'll start at the 17 East Carolina up big that close to being intercepted this is a very well coached defense they know to get their hands up in the air and to try to knock down passes from their own 17 yd line it's second down gives it up the gut gains his way to the 33 yd line and the delayed hand out of bounds here's the true test of a quarterback at any level can they make a good throw under pressure when one or two or three guys are coming right at him I think this young passer is proven another interception you know you look at this offense and they're making mistakes but how about the effort and the tenacity from this defense even with the big lead they're not giving up I think they factor in this game today Memphis did not believe that they had a chance that this one from the start you could see it in their eyes you know what football is not just a game of Brawn or muscle it's a game that also requires a lot of mental preparation these guys were not mentally prepared to win this football game and for Flanigan his great performance earns him our player of the game [Music]
